If you're on Yelp trying to decide on a smog shop, then give All Star Smog a chance! My experience with them (first time, first impression) was great. We needed a smog done on short notice--I did a quick Yelp inquiry, the shop owners/staff messaged back quickly, and the next morning we dropped in. Went in Saturday morning--the (covering) technician was courteous, friendly, and professional all around, and we didn't feel intimidated as maybe you would at other shops. The technician (we didn't catch his name) was also very transparent, as he advised us on searching how to properly "drive cycle" our vehicle in order to reset the monitors after the first smog attempt read: "monitors not ready" -- DRIVE CYCLE? Yes, we learned something new that day! We prepared our vehicle to sit overnight, then did the drive cycle early Sunday morning right before returning to All Star Smog for the retest. Same technician was there and helped us out right at 9am. He also gave us a friendly recommendation for additional DMV services that we needed to complete. This is my third time going to them. I recently moved away (about 30 minutes away.) Got there around noon and there was a big RV that was being run. They told me the wait will be about 20 minutes. Told me to wait in the office because there would be lots of fumes coming from the RV. I said I'll wait. They got to me in 15 minutes. They ran my smog quickly and I was out of there in another 15-20 minutes. Both the people who work/run it were very friendly and professional. My smog was due this week and this location was open on a Sunday! I got a quote thru Yelp that was reasonable and they responded fast! Service was very polite and I enjoyed the fact that a female was running the show. Pass on this. Quoted $48 dollars over the phone, then was charged $90!! WTF??? I told the person that my car was a hybrid. I don't mind paying the $90 IF that was the quote given to me, but to charge me a much higher rate than the original quote is not cool. I also would not mind paying the $90 if had told me BEFORE working on the car that the price had changed, that way I can decide of I wanted to continue with the service or not. But to charge a customer with a different price at the register AFTER they've already worked on the car did not leave me the option to back out if I had wanted to. Not good business practice and unfair to the customer. Anyways, I most likely won't be back. There are about 3-4 other smog places nearby that offers quick and clean service. read more
