When I called and booked an appointment they quoted me at $48 w/ the certificate. But when I got there, they tried to charge me $60. I wasn't going to bother to write this but I can't stop thinking of the incredibly weird experience I had here. I called to ask if I needed an appointment, he told me to come in fifteen minutes and he'd fit me in. Well I came earlier because I was in the neighborhood. No other customers were there but he still made me wait and watch Bob Ross on the tv. Weird!!! Then he starts on my car . In about ten minutes he comes out and says he can't work on my car because I have an anti theft cage on the catalytic converter. I explained that my cat was stolen about 5 years ago. The insurance replaced it and advised me to get a cage welded on. He told me that unless I had this 5 year old receipt from the welder, he couldn't work on my car. What a waste of time!!! I went down the street and got the car smogged no problem. I've also had it smogged two other years with the cage on, no problem. I then out of curiosity called 3 other smog shops to ask if they had ever heard of such a thing and they all said no, that it made no sense. Well, this was the third of four smog places that I visited in one day. I came by here and parked, and was looking forward to going in. But I needn't bother. A young woman came out and asked me why I was parked there (not rudely, but not warmly either). I saw a black guy waiting for an SUV and figured it wasn't a race thing. I told her that I wanted to get a smog check on my car and she informed me that they were busy and that the owner wasn't taking anyone else. It was 12:45 in the afternoon and they closed at 3 pm. So, I figured that they didn't want my money and that I'd go to a place that did and showed that by providing the smog service that I wanted. And I did at my fourth stop of the day at Smog Express Richmond. Even though they closed at 6 pm, my car was done before 3 pm. And this is after having to wait for 2 1/2 cars before me. So, they did have a lot of cars on the lot, however, it looked like a giant mess! Not like there were a bunch of customers waiting. So, I started to pull away, but I couldn't because some guy was blocking the place I would have driven through with his car. I knew it was over when he was blocking the lane and then his wife and kids exited the car. Really?!? Children, running loose around a car. So I backed up the way I'd come in. Luckily no one was behind me, they must have received the message that he was neck-deep in "customers" and couldn't be bothered. I wish I'd gotten that message. Anyhow, the curve into the shop is fine but backing out was awkward because a car was parked right against the curb cut. Luckily for me, it was a Saturday, which meant much less traffic than normal, so I was able to fishtail my way out. Never again!!! These people are the kindest people for being in the business there in. They took me within a half hour and I could see they had a lot of work to do. I'd just had a bad experience with another smog company and the difference was night and day. Sun was out, they set me in a lawn chair in the sun and gave me a cup of coffee. The owner who was working on my van stopped what he was doing and got me a phone charger as my phone was almost dead. They were kind , thoughtful And did a thorough job smogging the van. I was also given an appointment, and my car was smogged within a 10 minute window of the time I was given. A smog test for a sedan would run you around $69 ($78 for a new car) The smog technician kept me waiting while he talked to his friend, then he kept talking to the receptionist for the duration of the exam.
