Phil is the best, he has saved and cared for my Jeep wranglers (2000 & 2013) over the years!

Top five things you'll care to know: 1) Pro: Friendly, helpful, and quick! I did a VIN verification and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. 2) Pro: They do full registrations if you need and I wish I could have gone with them for the entirety of the out of state transfer that I was doing. Much better than the service I was assigned by the dealer. 3) Pro: They also do service on Jeeps, etc and they used to be in San Francisco. 4) N/A: Parking is a bit tough if you wanted to come in for something else other than service or a vehicle verification but they didn't seem to mind when I just pulled in. 5) Pro: They seem like an honest group. Unfortunately, that's hard to find nowadays. Five stars. read more

How did I not know this was a thing?! I very highly recommend this place. I called ahead and the gentleman gave me extremely good advise about how I should approach getting my vehicle registered. He told me to come in, I did, and 20 minutes later, I was DONE! Not to mention the gentleman who helped me was extremely nice. IF YOU ARE READING THIS. DO NOT GO TO THE DMV. VIN verification was done in less than 10 minutes. Super easy, then another 10-minute drive to the Corte Madera DMV. Convienent.

These guys refused my business because I didn't need a California title to sell my truck in California and very patiently explained the situation. It's a quick standard of honesty and excellence, but a damn good one. read more

Phil is still the best in the game. Phil helped me register and VIN verify an out of state van in 2017, I came back to him to help with a new one this year. Due to DMV being more broken than usual he wasn't able to complete the processes I needed, but gave clear advice on exactly what I needed to do. read more

Great service and good price ( I also got a free great car wash when I got a smog check here). They were fast and considerate. I'm super picky whenever someone is even looking at my car lol and they did not disappoint! read more

So glad that Phil provides this service. No long wait in line at the DMV. Wish I had known about his service 2 weeks ago when I waited 4 hours in line and still didn't get done what I needed to do because I couldn't wait 1-1/2 hours longer. There is such a thing as work. Thank you, Phil. read more

This place is wonderful, not only is it convenient as heck. Right in the middle of the city, it easy easy to find and has parking (its the Jeep Garage on the corner) Phil and the team there was a pleasure to work with and made registering my car so easy. I had my car VIN inspected and smog checked in 15 Minutes!! The process of NOT having to sit at the DMV or finding an appointment with the CHP to do a VIN check was work every bit of $35 and a savings of a ton of wasted time at the DMV. One stop shop of getting your car ready for registration. Phil you guys are awesome! read more

I had to get a car registered and Phil made the whole process so smooth and time efficient. Even if the DMV were open right now (which they are not for this service) I would recommend Golden Gate Registration. No lines, no rooms full of people. We all wore masks, easy to keep six feet apart and in and out in no time at all. Easy to find and easy to park - quite the revelation after years of time wasting at the DMV. read more

No one likes dealing with the DMV. Moving from out of state and into CA I expected a tour in hell with an empty wallet and a wasted day. Phil proved me wrong. I made an appointment, parked my car, had a seat in the leather sofa, and a before I knew it not only was it done, the plates had been swapped in my car, the paperwork done , and I was legally in California, car and all. I was amazed. From the start to the end Phil had everything under control, even when some of my paperwork needed help and I had to make a call or two to straighten it out. Experience, professionalism, and know-how made it all come together in a little over an hour. You can't help but cheer as you walk out. Thanks Phil! read more

They open at 7AM. I brought the car in at 7:15AM for a VIN verification and there was no wait and the owner was friendly, efficient and fast. Sad to hear they are going to be moving to Marin when I just learned about this DMV bypass service in SF. But wish him the best of luck in Marin! read more

Phil has been a lifesaver. He helped me register several cars, many of them out of state and requiring changes to the ownership status on the titles. He is knowledgeable about DMV requirements, patient, and a pleasure to do business with. Avoid the long lines and confusion at the DMV by visiting Phil @ Golden Gate for vehicle registration, title changes, VIN verifications, and license plates! read more

Umm this is the best place ever to go for car registration and plates! The area is in lower nob hill. The owner said he is moving to Marin in a few months so that's a bummer. Otherwise the shop is super clean and even if there was a wait it wouldn't be bad place to sit for a few minutes. Did I mention the wait time? None! I tried calling a few different times and the owner said stop by anytime. I finally showed up one day and got my plates and registration done in like 10 minutes! Sooo much better than going to the DMV. read more

Phil is awesome. He told me what information to collect to get my car registered. They did the smog and a complicated registration. Thank you. Much better than waiting in line at the DMV! read more

I'm new in San Francisco. We have multiple cars and I've already suffered through the DMV experience. I found out about Golden Gate Registration via a web search for VIN verification, and this is really a time saver. I was able to complete out-of-state car registration process in less than 30 minutes for my other car, and all the paperwork was prepared for me, so I just had to sign these documents. They have CA license plates and the technician put those on my car. This shop does not do smog certificate (from about 2 years ago) so you need to get it done before you come here. This shop is a Jeep & Chrysler service/repair shop. Highly recommended. read more

I did a lot of research before bringing a car to California from out of state, but I was still a bit worried that I would end up spending weeks going back and forth with the DMV. From past experience I know that even if I do everything they ask for on their web site, the workaholics at the DMV can always find some other random document to send me off for so they can make me stand in line for another four hours (or wait three weeks for another appointment). Luckily Golden Gate Registration takes all the pain out of dealing with the DMV. I brought my car in without an appointment, expecting to either leave it for the day or be asked to come back another day, but I ended up driving off less than an hour later with fresh California plates on my car. All I had to give them was the signed out-of-state title and a REG 262 (a glorified receipt with a DMV logo), and they took care of smog and registration while I sat in their waiting room. Phil and the mechanics were a very pleasant bunch. I'm so glad I went to them first instead of trying my luck with the DMV. The nominal fee is more than worth it. read more

Quick. Easy. In and out. $25 to not have to wait in line at the DMV. Worth it.

Never written a review before; but Phil is an absolute top bloke who made registering an out of state vehicle as easy as, dropping off car, going for a coffee; hour later all done. Highly recommended. Thanks again Phil. read more

Registered my out-of-state car with Golden Gate- the service was excellent and the entire process took less than 30 minutes (including installing the new CA plates on my car). Would highly recommend as an alternative to the bureaucratic labyrinth that is the CA DMV. read more

I went here to transfer the title of a vehicle to a charity. It was something new for the person who helped us, but he made a quick call and figured out the details of how to do it. We were in and out of there in 20 minutes and even got extra copies of all the forms. It was so much better than the DMV. read more
