Top five things you'll care to know: 1) Pro: Friendly, helpful, and quick! I did a VIN verification and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. 2) Pro: They do full registrations if you need and I wish I could have gone with them for the entirety of the out of state transfer that I was doing. Much better than the service I was assigned by the dealer. 3) Pro: They also do service on Jeeps, etc and they used to be in San Francisco. 4) N/A: Parking is a bit tough if you wanted to come in for something else other than service or a vehicle verification but they didn't seem to mind when I just pulled in. 5) Pro: They seem like an honest group. VIN verification was done in less than 10 minutes. Super easy, then another 10-minute drive to the Corte Madera DMV. Convienent.

I had to get a car registered and Phil made the whole process so smooth and time efficient. Even if the DMV were open right now (which they are not for this service) I would recommend Golden Gate Registration. No lines, no rooms full of people. This place is wonderful, not only is it convenient as heck. Right in the middle of the city, it easy easy to find and has parking (its the Jeep Garage on the corner) Phil and the team there was a pleasure to work with and made registering my car so easy. I had my car VIN inspected and smog checked in 15 Minutes!! The process of NOT having to sit at the DMV or finding an appointment with the CHP to do a VIN check was work every bit of $35 and a savings of a ton of wasted time at the DMV. They open at 7AM. I brought the car in at 7:15AM for a VIN verification and there was no wait and the owner was friendly, efficient and fast. Sad to hear they are going to be moving to Marin when I just learned about this DMV bypass service in SF. But wish him the best of luck in Marin! read more

No one likes dealing with the DMV. Moving from out of state and into CA I expected a tour in hell with an empty wallet and a wasted day. Phil proved me wrong. I made an appointment, parked my car, had a seat in the leather sofa, and a before I knew it not only was it done, the plates had been swapped in my car, the paperwork done , and I was legally in California, car and all. Umm this is the best place ever to go for car registration and plates! The area is in lower nob hill. The owner said he is moving to Marin in a few months so that's a bummer. Otherwise the shop is super clean and even if there was a wait it wouldn't be bad place to sit for a few minutes. Did I mention the wait time? None! I tried calling a few different times and the owner said stop by anytime. I finally showed up one day and got my plates and registration done in like 10 minutes! I'm new in San Francisco. We have multiple cars and I've already suffered through the DMV experience. I found out about Golden Gate Registration via a web search for VIN verification, and this is really a time saver. I was able to complete out-of-state car registration process in less than 30 minutes for my other car, and all the paperwork was prepared for me, so I just had to sign these documents. They have CA license plates and the technician put those on my car. This shop does not do smog certificate (from about 2 years ago) so you need to get it done before you come here. This shop is a Jeep & Chrysler service/repair shop. Highly recommended. read more

I did a lot of research before bringing a car to California from out of state, but I was still a bit worried that I would end up spending weeks going back and forth with the DMV. From past experience I know that even if I do everything they ask for on their web site, the workaholics at the DMV can always find some other random document to send me off for so they can make me stand in line for another four hours (or wait three weeks for another appointment). Luckily Golden Gate Registration takes all the pain out of dealing with the DMV. I brought my car in without an appointment, expecting to either leave it for the day or be asked to come back another day, but I ended up driving off less than an hour later with fresh California plates on my car. All I had to give them was the signed out-of-state title and a REG 262 (a glorified receipt with a DMV logo), and they took care of smog and registration while I sat in their waiting room. Phil and the mechanics were a very pleasant bunch. I'm so glad I went to them first instead of trying my luck with the DMV. The nominal fee is more than worth it. read more

I went here to transfer the title of a vehicle to a charity. It was something new for the person who helped us, but he made a quick call and figured out the details of how to do it. We were in and out of there in 20 minutes and even got extra copies of all the forms. It was so much better than the DMV. read more
