    Gosh, had I taken the OLD Yelp reviews into consideration, I may not had the great fortune of…read moreknowing Lisa Elkins. My experience, thus far, has been extraordinary. While looking online for local insurance carriers one evening, Lisa Elkins' agency popped up. After reviewing her offerings, I shot her an email hoping to schedule time to discuss auto and renter's insurance. I immediately received a personal email from Lisa and an invitation to meet that week. My very first impression of Lisa was that she's highly personable, knowledgeable , and professional. I learned that Lisa was a State Farm trainer prior to opening her own agency and has been with State Farm for many, many years. Of course, after coming from the impersonal world of Liberty Mutual's "agent mill/cubicle factory", Lisa's supportive and educational ways were especially welcome! After our meeting, I left Lisa's office feeling both connected and well-equipped: The value, offerings, and affordability of State Farm auto and renter's policies have very much given me peace-of-mind. And as a side, it was wonderful to connect with another mom who understands "mom" values, challenges, and conditions. Lisa also sold me life insurance - something I knew little about but wasn't sure how to approach. Lisa explained everything clearly. She walked me through many different scenarios and options and I was able to chose a direction that made sense to me. With my good health and desirable age, I was fortunate enough to be locked in at a really low rate: More peace-of-mind and security for my family. One of State Farm's many added value benefits is a free annual financial review. As a recession refugee who lost all of her investments and half of her earning potential, I lost sight of my financial future some time ago: I had no hope that I could ever again regain my security. As part of the review, Lisa motivated me to seriously consider and formalize my long- and short-term financial goals. She really helped me put things into perspective; providing recommendations, and advice. Lisa restored my hope by extinguishing my fears about retirement. Lisa's personal touch was so uplifting that I feel like I'm on the right track again! I haven't experienced minor errors that haven't been corrected instantly. In fact, one day, Lisa's team helped me out of a jam by faxing a copy of my insurance card within minutes - I was blown away as it would never have happened had I stuck with my old carrier. All-in-all, I do expect humans to make mistakes and choose to consider the overall long-term value I'm receiving from my relationship with State Farm and Lisa's agency. If you're looking for perfection, an online automated system might be a better option for you. For me, I'll take Lisa and her warmth, knowledge, encouragement, support and humanness any day.

    Our first clue should have been about 10 years ago when Lisa didn't help with an issue we had after…read morerenting a car in Europe. We took out the State Farm credit card she suggested that would give us additional coverage on rentals. When we turned in the car, they mistakenly tried to gouge us for damage. When we asked her to help us clear it up, she told us just to ignore it and since they were overseas, there would be no repercussions or damage to our credit. It felt wrong, but we trusted her, and now my husband is black listed from all rental car agencies in that major brand of companies in the US. It felt like she just didn't want to put the work in - she had made her credit card sale, and washed her hands of us. We should have switched years ago as annoying things happened with Lisa, but life is busy and we just put it off until the final straw recently. That was when they started hounding my 21-year old college student about setting up a meeting to adjust our policy. WHAT?! They clearly have NO IDEA who even pays the bills, just that they want to increase their sales! When I called the office to complain about this, the guy who answered said he just makes the calls based on the names on the policy. Yes, my son's name is on his auto policy, after our names, but they don't even bother to do their research?! We are just a number, or actually a paycheck, and we want more from an agent who is making almost 10K off of us yearly between all our auto, homeowners, business, etc policies. Those cheesy computer generated and signed birthday cards we get every year don't make us feel like you care! Quite the opposite, actually. We have switched to a different agent, and are hopeful that it's just a Lisa thing that we have to call multiple times before talking to a live person or ever getting a call back (and NEVER from her - that hasn't happened in over 10 years!). I would say go elsewhere if you actually want personalized service.
