Under new ownership and I can't speak more highly of Dave Milcoff. He followed through on some empty promises made under the previous ownership, and made me feel heard and valued. Because of Dave I will absolutely be back and will be recommending this dealership. I bought a certified pre-owned Honda in February and was NOT informed about the presence of the SWAT system or associated cost ($1000 for 3 years). I happened to catch it on the papers while signing, and was not only caught off guard but questioned when I said I did not want it (I'm a student and was already pushing my limited budget, which I had already told them). I was exhausted from being there for several hours trying to navigate loan applications, hungry, caught off guard and didn't have the energy to fight for myself, so I sheepishly signed the papers and left. The next day, feeling taken advantage of, I contacted the team I worked with, and was told that I would received a check for $1,000 for the SWAT system I did not want. I continued to follow up, each time being told that, "the business office was still processing it." Finally, my point of contact stopped replying/answering. Since I don't live in the area, my mom followed up in person, nearly 2 months later. Dave met her, and informed her that the dealership is now under new ownership, and that the promise for a $1,000 refund was something the team could not possibly have done (it was an empty promise). Despite it being "impossible," and being unable to fulfill that promise, Dave did everything in his power to remedy the situation, eventually working something out with us that felt good. I initially had a wonderful experience purchasing my vehicle with Yama, which made this visit especially disappointing by contrast. My first impression upon arriving was that the service department was overworked and understaffed; however, the front desk experience was still frustrating and unprofessional. Customers standing there waiting -- not just myself -- were not acknowledged promptly. We were repeatedly asked to "wait," and even after acknowledgment, it still took a long time for anyone to actually assist us. In my case, I was not acknowledged at all, similar to the last time I had to come in. I also heard several excuses being made, and at one point customers were being blamed for delays, which was uncomfortable to witness. That said, I want to specifically recognize Oliver, who was professional, efficient, and solution-oriented once I was helped. I purchased a car from this dealership two weeks ago. Last week, I noticed traces of oil in several areas underneath the vehicle. The following day, I took it to a nearby Toyota service center. The Toyota service center informed me that the dealership where I purchased the vehicle had sprayed a large amount of oil throughout the vehicle to make it look clean, which made it impossible to identify any actual oil leaks. They advised that the engine bay needs to be thoroughly detailed and cleaned first, and then inspected again to determine the source of any leak. As if I needed another reason to NOT take repairs to the dealer, today I was treated rudely by an employee who apparently believes women are neither doctors nor lawyers. I called ahead to ask how long it would take to replace a tail light. 30 minutes, I was told. When I arrived I was told two hours. I explained that I worked for myself and could not spare that much time. When I tried to game out when was the best time to come where it would involve the least amount of time, I was told that they had a lot of customers including doctors and lawyers, implying that he had more important customers than me, so I would have to go to the back of the line. I asked why he assumed I wasn't a doctor or a lawyer. He sputtered. I could tell he wasn't interested in helping me. I bought my last Honda there; have spent thousands over the years in repairs at this dealer. I walked out because I wasn't in the mood to be put down or misled again. He seemed unconcerned by the fact that I had been misled over the phone and was not interested in helping me problem solve so I could avoid wasting my time waiting while they changed a bulb. We got off on the wrong foot. He began by asking why I was there, and when I began to answer, he cut me off so he could help another customer. [He's the customer service guy to the far left as you walk in.] Last time I brought my car into this dealer it was because I had a gas smell inside my car. They could not fix it but charged me anyway. I believe the smell began after they had repaired the underside of the car because there was no other reason for the gas leak. Thank goodness I've found a reliable, honest independent mechanic who is clever and an effective problem-solver, who fixed the problem (replaced an O-ring) for a minimal price. Huge shout out to the new owners! My daughter had her first dealership purchase the first part of February with the old owners and they literally counter into a green to spend $1000 for a tracker for the car, which she did not actually want. She felt bullied into it. I called and spoke to the sales manager and he promised repeatedly to refund the thousand dollars. I just followed up a couple of days ago and learned that it is under new ownership and of course the new owners have no liability for the old owners obligations. I finally took the advice of a Lyft driver who particularly recommended Rony in the sales department. (I was hanging onto my 14 year old car but enough was enough and today was MY day!) I called and spoke to the sales manager, Ron. And he sent Yama to [personally drive me to the dealership.] I felt relaxed during the entire process. Ron and Rony both came over to introduce themselves and welcome me. Yama listened to what I thought I wanted but showed me what I deserve. Marin Honda is worse than not good. I went into the dealership December 23 2023. I had purchased a Rav 2021 at another dealership about 6 months prior and did not like how it drove. HONDA had a crv that was around the same price I paid, in full cash, for my Rav. I was curious if I could trade my car in. I would have to pay around $11,000 difference for the trade. I had no money, no income and no credit. About a 310 . The sales manager said he would run my credit and maybe I could pass. I knew there was no way, but WHY NOT. Go ahead and try". In ADDITION, I HAD ZERO INCOME AND WAS JUST FOUND OUT SSI HAD DECIDED I WAS MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED. I SHOWED THIS TO THEM . Somehow the sales manager was able to get the loan for between $11,000 - $12,000. I said I wanted the warranty for $5,000. I would not pay a dime over with a loan. I knew I would receive monthly income and some back pay for SSI. Assuming that would be pretty soon afterwards. I felt I could do this and pay off the car within a year. I was willing to do this for the car was so much better than the Rav. The CRV 2021. The finance man was struggling to get this to finalize without an income to prove. The interest rate was 16.7% . Monthly payment of $450. I knew nothing about getting a loan, principal interest etc. The finance employee offered me some other warranty for free and made my other general warranty extra years for free. I signed everything for what was $about $16,000 as we agreed. My SSI dis not begin for another 11 months. I almost lost my vehicle. I looked at the contract and they added another $4,000 making my loan $20,000. ZERO INCOME, AND NO CREDIT. THE ENTIRE AMOUNT WAS $9,000 THEY added in warranties. Knowing nothing about what I signed i went in to Honda Marin and returned two warranties losing over $1000. Then an unknown extra $2,000. Everytime i went in I was told to look at my contract, saying I signed and would not help me to understand. The Sales manager sold my contract to Ally financial and they took it because the Sales manager approved it. Having FULL KNOWLEDGE I HAD NO INCOME AND NO CREDIT AND MAKING MY LOAN , $9,000 OVER THE PURCHASE TRADE. I HAVE NOW PAID OVER $22,000 AND STILL OWE OVER $5,000. A LAWYER wrote a demand letter and they would not look at it. I cannot continue to pay this loan. They will not help me. Sales manager said he was the General manager on the phone. They said they did not have a general manager. Then I was connect with the "General Manager" and he said he wasn't but was just there for a short time acting as one, or something like that. Short and rude said I signed and look at my contract. I asked "How was i approved and could I see the application to Ally which they then approved me. He said he would send me my contract. They did not have anything there to access and give me. Ally and every other finance bank or company denied my loan. Ally denies my loan and somehow they claim it was canceled and they then somehow decided to buy the loan from Marin Honda and THEY APPROVED ME. I should have had someone with me at the purchase. I assumed ( never assume) i would be able to pay it off within months. I told them this over and over i planned on paying it off very soon. I have only requested the loan be payed off by them for their violations of certain laws, having knowledge of my disabilities and no income with the worst credit score. Adding $4,000 without my knowledge. NEVER would I imagine a huge corporation would take advantage of me like this. I know this is long and I warn people that are buying a vehicle to go over every single line and that they explain the whole agreement. I didn't look at these individual warranties agreement because how would I know that this isn't just the value of this warranty. I TRUSTED THEM. I only ask they hold accountability and make this right. I can't afford a lawyer and sent an email to the owner with no reply. It was suggested to give a review of them and I am trying to get legal assistance. This is mentally exhausting for me. I have learned an incredibly valuable lesson from this and I hope Noone goes through this, having been violated and taken advantage of with full knowledge of my situation. They got their money and had no conscience considering I was clearly unable to pay anything with nothing. At the time there was about 10 cars on the lot from the pandemic and we're desperate to sell. This review is for the service department. I had a great experience working with Service Adviser Rolly Flores. My vehicle had an outstanding fuel pump recall I'd been putting off, but DMV required it to be completed before renewing registration. I typically avoid dealerships since I handle most maintenance myself, but this recall had to be done through an authorized dealer. While the vehicle was in for service, I also requested an oil change, tire rotation, and battery replacement. Rolly was fantastic; professional, straightforward, and genuinely friendly. No upselling, no unnecessary recommendations just honest service and clear communication. The work was completed ahead of schedule, everything was done properly, and the car was returned clean and ready to go. Long story short - I go through Costco to get a Honda and Marin Honda has the Civics at the base price (which a lot of local Honda dealers do not). I am immediately contacted (literally 20 seconds after I hit submit) by a salesman named Geovanny via email. I explain to him I want a Civic with NO extras, just the base car and I have already been approved for financing with Chase (in which Marin Honda is one of their approved dealers). I have a low mileage Honda for trade in and will also throw in a couple thousand cash for a down payment - couldn't be an easier deal for them. I just want to set everything up via email so I have to spend as little time as possible at the actual dealership. First he tells me I still need to fill out a finance app, it's their policy. I call up Chase and they say no, that's not remotely true, he just wants to shop me around to other banks so he can get a cut. I tell him I talked to Chase and they said that's not true and I will never use Cap One again so shopping me around is a waste of time - I don't care if he gets me a lower rate anywhere, I'm going with Chase. He says no problem, so I assume that's cleared up. We go back and forth, it should be easy but I've got to make sure he's not going to try and sneak anything in - I'm ready to buy and this should be a super easy deal for him. But it's not in his blood to make things easy. Car dealers always have to try and scam you. He sends over the deal and sure enough I see "After Market" stuff (see my screenshot). I go online and ask the experts about this stuff - he wants another 1500 bucks for this crap and sure enough, it's total baloney. It includes a "GPS tracker," a "appearance package" and "wheel locks." Here's what I found out: * The GPS tracker does nothing for you, doesn't actually cost anywhere near that amount, and is really meant for "buy here pay here" junk lots to have an easier time executing a repo for those who don't pay. * The "appearance" package better be super comprehensive for that price, but almost certainly isn't. Usually it's some clear vinyl stickers and "paint protection" (wax, ceramic coating, etc), but more often than not, it's literally nothing and just a junk fee. * Wheel locks might be worth it, but the actual cost is more like $20-50. This is another junk fee. They're claiming they're worth $357. If they're $50 wheel locks (at best) this is still over a 700% mark up. 1500 bucks for this which is worth about 50 bucks at best. When I raised a stink, he literally tried to claim "Costco requires this." I called Costco's car department. They do not require anything like this in any shape or form. Another lie. He then tells me in the next email "also, we still need you to fill out the finance application" after he told me he was good with my financing. I tell him we're done. He tried to sneak in 1500 bucks of charges hoping I would not notice and still wants to shop me around to other financiers even though I have it already set up with a bank they use. Lied to me about the extras that I was very clear about not wanting. Just lied to me about literally every single thing we've discussed. It's just in their DNA. They can't be honest and do a clear cut easy deal like this one. Everything laid out, should be done and done. Instead he destroyed an easy deal for the hope in picking up an extra grand. Imagine going through your life being a liar and making a living trying to scam people. Every morning this guy wakes up and his thoughts are all about how he can scam people. I suspect every part of his life, even outside selling cars, he just lies. There are thousands of ways to make a living and thousands of ways to go through life and guy like this think scamming people is the best way. I went online to a few places and brought up this specific incident and literally THOUSANDS of people said "that's Honda." Also note, I said this to Giovanny in our first email "please do not put me on any list, I do not want any email or hard copy junk mail from you," not 20 minutes later I started getting spam from his dealership. There's no way that's automatic. They can't get someone's email from his personal email - after my first email he gave them my info. Just a scammer from start to finish. When I was talking to people online, hundreds of them said "go to Mazda" or "go to Toyota" which I will do. I love Hondas but I refuse to deal with people who are clichéd scammers out of the movie Fargo. Note: I initially emailed the guy whose email is on their website in the "Contact us" section - has the guy's literal email. Emailed him a few times. My fourth or fifth email I asked "do you want a deal or not?" Never got a response from that guy. Another note: The "owner" Dave goes into other reviews here and comments on them. The U.S. automotive dealership model is a relic of a bygone era, originating from the practical needs of early manufacturers like Detroit's Ford to distribute and service vehicles efficiently across the country in the early 1900s. This model, which most of us either tolerate or despise, became entrenched through franchise laws in the 1950s-70s. It's unfortunate buying reality that we must still engage in when just about everything else in life, we can just buy directly from manufacturer. Ok, so how best to approach? By willing to walk away at any moment if you're not happy with what is being presented. Marin Honda is probably no better or no worse than the other Honda dealerships in the Bay Area. I've bought two CRVs before from Honda of Serramonte and recently visited Honda of San Bruno. If you let yourself be taken advantage of, there are people at any of those dealerships who will do so by adding add-ons that can bring up the overall cost of your vehicle by $2K-$4K. If you like those add-ons, you're fine. If you know you don't want them, politely stick to your guns and don't be swayed. Be willing to walk away from a deal and you'll more than likely be asked to come back to it minus the stuff you didn't want. Overall, my engagement with Honda Marin was positive. I went through the Costco auto buyer program and after clicking "submit," I got a call from Geovanny Guerrero within 5 minutes. That was a positive because I really didn't want to go through any of the Victory-owned Honda dealeships (Serramonte, San Bruno, Burlingame) because I know they like to add that $1200 tracking device into the car. I suspected it would be easier not to have that conversation with a non-Victory-owned Honda dealership like Honda Marin. I think I brought it up at the beginning and made sure that wasn't going to be an issue. The first price offer given by Geovanny did have about $2400 of extras, which I immediately let him know politely that I wasn't going to buy with those items on the offer. He wasn't pushy about it and let me know they were optional, which is good because I could have easily put off car buying a month or two and would have easily gone somewhere else. Honda Marin came back with another offer reducing the $2400 to about $350 for wheel locks. I had to talk Geovanny's supervisor when I had to decline that offer. I just had to let them know I did not want or need wheel locks. I wasn't trying to get anything for free, I just didn't need them. It's like if you want a chocolate cake and the baker insists he add strawberrys on it and charge you extra. You don't like strawberrys and you're not going to pay for something you don't want. So, while on that call with Geovanny's supervisor, I let him know that I wasn't going to buy the car with the wheel locks and he said well that was the best they could do. We were both polite and hung up and the deal was off at that moment. But I didn't really think it truly off because it was only a $350 sticking point. The next day, Geovanny let me know that they took the wheel locks off the deal and if that would work. Of course, it did work for me and I proceeded to move forward with giving a deposit. They found the car I wanted at a neighboring Honda dealer (over at Hayward) and my car was delivered within the next day or two. Geovanny had the car nicely detailed and the process of getting a quick test drive and going to Finance to finalize the paperwork and give them a check for the full amount was straightforward. The actual dealership was clean and I can't say that I saw anything amiss. People buying cars and the sales people more or less trying to get people the cars they want. They will do their best to add extras into the cost of the car. Again, if you like those extras, fine, but don't be afraid to assert your wants and needs and just be ready to walk away if needed. Treat them with respect and hopefully you'll get treated respectfully in return. I did find Geovanny easy to work with at every turn, so kudos to him with how he handled the process with him. I'll just encourage him to keep listening to his customers' needs and the sales will follow. I hope management there at Honda Marin strive to do their best to break the sometimes negative stereotypes of buying a car. No issues from me, so thanks. read more

Beware Honda Marin. I have a lease for 15,000 per year and they now say they only honor it at 10,000 per year. I gave a copy to Management 2 weeks ago so they could make the correction and left my phone number for them to call me back. Eric and Ron have done nothing to fix the issue and comply with the lease, now they refuse to make the correction and do the right thing. I followed up with Eric today and he hung up on me. Now the owner Dave M. Is responding that my demands are highly unusual but all I'm requesting is to honor the lease for 15k per year, how is it that honoring a lease highly unusual? He has my number and can call and do the right thing or small claims court is next. Remember I gave 2 weeks to correct the problem and I was completely dismissed. My paperwork was tossed out and Mgt won't take my calls. This situation is stressing me out I really can't believe the way I'm being treated by an apparent reputable company? I went in for B2 maintenance, the usual the advisor said you need this you need that which I declined all of them. I am worried now after reading the reviews here, a lot said that they paid for something that were not done. Yesterday, after the maintenance I went to have my smog test, I opened the hood and there's no liquid that is visible in the Wiper Fluid Reservoir. I'm driving to Las Vegas this weekend, now I'm also worried they did not put coolant. I checked my receipt it says, "Inspect All Fluid Levels & Conditions." Also, when I was paying, the guy said an amount but when i gave him my credit card it was $11.00 more. I asked him why, he said because I used a credit card. I said really, I thought only small businesses do this. I've been coming here for my maintenance ever since I bought my car, one time I paid more $2,000 so that's more than $60.00 for using a credit card. This is not about the car. The salesperson and the sales manager who helped me on April 19th were amazing. I was able to get a decent deal on my 2023 Accord. However, the finance part of the deal was awful. I agreed to the extended 84 month 100K mile warranty. When I got home, I read the contract, and decided it had too many negative aspects about it. Also, I wasn't informed about the $100 deductible that I have to pay every time the vehicle had to be serviced. I cancelled it on May 10th. Long story short, I called multiple times to check up on my refund and the finance manager Gavin was not helpful at all. At one point, he told me never to call him again and call my bank to deal with the refund. This was around July 17th. I received the actual refund July 27th (78 days later). General manager Jim called me around the day my lienholder received the check to let me know the process, and why it took so long receive, and why I shouldn't have purchased it if I was planning on cancelling. I cancelled it because the extended warranty contract was deceptive (didn't tell me anything about $100 deductible per service) & service contract warranty had too many exclusions when it comes to services and repairs. Lesson learned: I will never purchase an extended car warranty ever. In my view, it's a total scam only to benefit the dealer and the finance manager. I will never do business here again. - Honda Marin - I am a careful consumer and write very few reviews. However, I had a very positive experience purchasing a Honda Pilot from Honda Marin. I researched and we test drove other cars (BMW and Volkswagen) and we decided on Honda as being superior in quality, value, warranty and included service. Next I researched ALL of the Honda dealers in the greater Bay Area. On my first call I was connected with Mike Grellman. He inspired confidence and we went to the dealership, where we met our salesman Manny Dealba. Manny showed us the models we were interested in, thoroughly explained the features each of the two models we decided upon offered. Then, Manny went over the features available on each model. In total, Manny spent several hours (maybe a full day) going over this major purchase with us and was polite and patient all the way through. Gary Sandhu handled the financing component. I put a large amount down and we were quoted and signed documents for a particular interest rate on a holiday weekend through Honda Financing. A few days after completing the deal, Gary emailed me to inform me that Honda Financing had approved me for a lower rate which reduced the monthly payment by about $45 a month for the same term. He didn't have to do that, but he did. I have purchased many cars in my lifetime but give Honda Marin and each of the people I have mentioned the highest marks. When buying a new car we buying a car AND the dealer's service department. I expect the service department to treat me fairly. Marin Honda treats my family like a sucker or a mark. We took the car in for an oil change and a scheduled brake check a few weeks ago. We were told there was a leak that needed additional time to look into and another $150 to investigate. We declined. Upon arriving home we looked at the engine for a leak - none found. we looked at the pavement in the car's regular parking place - no oil there either. On previous occasions the sales department staff has tried to get us to pay for repairs/replacement parts thousands of miles before they are prescribed in the handbook. The car needs a new splash guard, my research says this should cost no more than $300 (the part costs $100), they want $500. The bottom line? Don't by a car from Marin Honda unless you already have a trusted mechanic. (Oh, and they had tried the mysterious leak investigation a couple of years earlier. we also declined then. I was looking to purchase an HR V at Honda Marin last week. Having done my research online, I had a good idea of the trim I wanted and the price for the vehicle as quoted on Honda Marin's website, as well as Cars.com and CarGurus. When I arrived at the dealership, I was dismayed to see the sticker price on the vehicle was $3,000 more than the online price. This was called a "Market Adjustment", basically an arbitrary upcharge they tacked onto the car which, again, was absent from the online listing. Having been in the industry myself, this raised some red flags. After test driving the vehicle, I wanted to make a purchase and work out a good price. Even without the "Market Adjustment" the vehicle's price was on the high end of the KBB pricing guide. I asked if they could bring the price down a little more (I was looking for maybe $500-$1000 off the price listed online). Their reply: "We already brought the price down $3,000". I told them I don't consider their "Market Adjustment" to be part of the price since it was not part of any online pricing and had I known about it, I wouldn't have bothered. After bouncing me around between the GM and some young kid sales rep, they decided they wouldn't bring the price down any further. After I told them I found one at a better price further afield, they had the audacity to ask me to send them the offer I was given. Why would I do that? I have about as much loyalty to them as they have to me. Anyway, in the end, this was a bad experience for me and I won't ever be going to Honda Marin for anything in future. read more

I've bought two cars from Marin Honda beginning in 2003, and with 2 exceptions due to time restrictions, I've always taken both cars here for service and repair. Hondas are so reliable that I've only had to do a few necessary repairs in the last 20 years. The staff has overall be professional and really helpful; my review is no reflection on the quality of their outstanding work. Apparently as of two years ago, new management bought Honda Marin and now requires a significant "pre-inspection fee" for all service now, and these fees are not applied to the final bill for labor and parts. I accepted the first $150 pre-inspection fee a few months ago on a minor replacement repair because my car was already in the shop for a major tune-up, but when they demanded $375 for a pre-inspection fee this month to recharge the air conditioner with refrigerant on my 20-year old Accord EX, it was a ridiculously greedy overreach that marked the end of the road with Honda Marin. I got it done for less than $250 at a transmission/AC shop in San Rafael. My family and friends have all stopped buying cars from Marin Honda and taking them to Marin Honda Repair, and now I understand why. I may well buy another Honda, but I'll take it to another shop for service and repair. read more

My car broke down and I had it towed to the nearest dealership to see what was wrong with it, since I was out of town. The Service Manager, Steve Ong, assisted and thoroughly explained to me that the fuel pump malfunctioned and that there was a recall on it. He was very familiar with the problem and they had the parts in stock, so I was able to get my car fixed in a jiffy! Best of all, there were no charges because the part was a manufacture defect on the fuel pump. I was relieved that when it broke down, I wasn't on the freeway or a busy street because it could've caused a lot more damage and potentially a serious accident. I didn't have an appointment, but they were able to get me in right away. Overall, the service was amazing and I couldn't have been any happier that Marin Honda was nearby to quickly fix my car while traveling out of town! read more

I just had to bring my 2023 Honda in for a safety recall and for a scheduled service. I'm a bit hard of hearing and after I mentioned that to Service Advisor Matt Pence, he kicked up the volume just a notch and articulated his words so I could hear & understand without feeling embarrassed. The man was thorough, clear & friendly. Great attention to detail. Service was on time and as described. Things that were found to need fixing got fixed. I was alerted to a few minor concerns that I may encounter down the road. I appreciated the loaner car. I was back on the road with my own car within the time I was quoted. ALSO: while we were doing the paperwork, I heard the patience and polite care that the Advisor to my right was giving to his customer, an older person who needed things done a certain way. That was really sweet. I left feeling that if we could all work together like this, the world would be a better place. Thanks Matt! and Thanks Honda Marin. read more
