Here's what you experience from RAS: 1) a highly skilled mechanic working on your car, 2) an absolutely honest man - Robin, the owner - who charges you a fair price, 3) an auto shop who explains what needs to be done and why, 4) Marge, the Admin. Here is a summary of two service experiences over a two week period: I have lived in Larkspur since 2010, and began using RAS two weeks ago bc my auto repair shop closed. I met with Robin and he reviewed the specific items that would be part of my 15,000 mile checkup, the cost, and that I could bring in my car and wait. But - one day before I was scheduled to bring it in, I noticed a major dashboard switch was broken, so I drive to RAR at approx.. 3:00 P.m. and Robin stopped what he was doing and called to see if the switch could arrive the following morning. HONEST AND KIND! My review of Robin and his shop is long overdue. He's such an honest person, kind, and really goes out of his way to be fair and helpful. He has so much experience and is very knowledgeable. I can say this after going to him for decades with many different types of cars. I initially found him when his shop was out of Larkspur Gas by Lucky Market. He's so reasonably priced. I'm one of those people that loves to have the mechanic diagnose over the phone, lol. Robins been so patient with me and is usually spot on. I've had several friends switch to him after receiving unreasonably high estimates and he always asks them what their Longterm goals are with their car. He's really just such a good person and it shows when you get the invoice. I have to say I love the shop. Growing up in the south where oil smelling, well lived in shops seem to have the best mechanics and people. Everyone here is helpful, polite, and they really know about vehicles. So i had to go back in for leaking -it was the camshaft and something else, they need to open timing belt to access-so we are now doing that too since they have to open that up. Several auto repair shops said we needed a new transmission for our 2010 Fit, $4,000-$6,000. We were about to junk the car. Found Robin. He fixed the transmission switch (which had been chewed through by rodents) and replaced many wires which had also been chewed, checked the brakes all for $1,000. Car saved/very happy customers. I LOVE Robin's Auto Service. We have been bringing our cars here for several years, since we moved back to California. Robin is so honest and practical. He never, ever suggests anything that isn't necessary (like so many mechanics) and finds practical and street-smart ways to fix things in lieu of expensive repairs. For example, my battery cables were completely corroded on my old Dodge Durango, and it turned out they no longer make that specific part. (They aren't like any standard cables but a very specific, weird part.) Robin just stripped the wires down and put a standard piece on the end. Other mechanics would have either told me that it wasn't possible to fix it or recommended I go online and try and find something on ebay. One other time, I thought our door locks were broken. One of his staff came out and noticed that the child lock was on, and turned it off. (Yes, I felt stupid.) They easily could have charged me for an expensive repair, since I didn't know any better. But that's not how they roll. Robin is the best. I highly, highly recommend him and his shop. And when you take your car in to be smogged, you get a free car wash! read more

My family and I have been taking our cars to Robin for 20+ years now. I want to say my mom started back in 1998 or so? Throughout all of those years Robin has been honest about the work that needs to be done on our cars: Everything from what may be a potential risk to our safety, to what things to keep an eye on until they need repair. I moved to Oakland in 2016 and still would take my car to get serviced in Greenbrae by Robin, because I knew I could trust him. Back in 2019 I looked around Oakland to see if I could find a mechanic closer to me (as the drive can be anywhere from 45 minutes to an 1.5 hours depending on traffic). Every mechanic I called was charging me an arm and a leg for the work I needed done, and quite frankly, I felt they were adding frivolous repairs that needed to be done on top of that. I called Robin, and again he gave me an honest quote and answer, and told me which things I could wait a little longer on. So, I took my car to Robin. Additionally, a few years ago one of his employees taught me how to change my windshield wipers! I had called because I was about to go up to Tahoe the following day, and I wanted to see if they could fit me in to change the windshield wipers. His employee said to head over, and when I got there, he taught me how to do it myself! So what else do they help with? Brakes and rotors, oil change, light bulb changes, headlight replacements and or buffing, maintenance checks, and any other things related to those weird noises that you may not be able to figure out. I truly appreciate the work that Robin and his team do. I know for a fact that they are worth the drive from Oakland, and I can rely on them for any car problem I may have. I've been going to Robin for years for my current Prius and the one before that. Robin is really great - honest, friendly and does excellent work. During a heat wave my A/C stopped working, so a few weeks later I went in to get it recharged. Robin said it was working fine. He explained that when the outside temperature gets extreme the A/C automatically shuts down to prevent the car from overheating. Some mechanics would have charged me to recharge the A/C even though I didn't need it. When my side mirror broke, he ordered a new mirror and told me to come in most any time (but call first). I took it in unscheduled and he fixed it on the spot while I waited. Can't beat that! read more

There are 2 things that I do not like doing. Moving and getting my car fixed. So we moved this summer from SF to Marin which hits number 1 and then my car started having problems which then is worse. I didn't know any mechanics in Marin and was going to go back to SF even though it was inconvenient but I saw good reviews for Robin's online. I got quotes from 3 places (including the lexus dealer) and Robin's was by far the best. In addition, he was courteous, didn't try to oversell me on services I didn't need and then did "extras" - filled my tires/changed oil (for a small fee) that I would have had to do on my own another time. I highly recommend Robin's Auto Service - I hope I don't have to go back soon but if I did I feel like I would be well taken care of and pay a fair price. read more

I have used Robin for my last few auto repair jobs. I need to write a negative review because of my most recent interaction. So here we go... I took my car in to Robin because I noticed a loud noise coming from under the hood of my car - sounds like metal on metal. Robin sat in my car with me and said, 'oh you need new breaks'. I trusted him and went with his recommendation. So he installed new rotors and break pads for $1,100. When I went to go pick up the car after he said it was ready, within 20 feet of driving away the metal noise from under the hood was still there. WTF!?!?! Two things here 1) He misdiagnosed the issue 2) There was no oversight in ensuring what I came to him for was neglected and very obvious there was carelessness in the repair - Basically I just paid a lot of money which didn't solve the problem why I went there. So he kept the car another day and identified that the in fact the noise was coming from the transfer case/box. So I ended up taking my car from him, because he's careless, incompetent, and dishonest. I finally just took the car to the dealership. Needless to say I am very upset with the service and work that was done to my vehicle. My last face to face interaction with him, I said "I'm very unpleased with how things worked out and I would gladly pay for the parts of the breaks & rotors but I need compensation for the labor' His response was 'I'll think about it and call you'. Well no surprise here, he has still not called me to address the issue which again is just unprofessional. I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. read more

I'm excited to give my recommendation for Robin's Auto Service. I'm new to Robin's Auto Service. My colleagues at work recommended I go there to get my car serviced. I'm on a tight budget, so I was looking to get a lower price on getting new brake pads & rotors for my rear tires. Well, I have to tell you that I could not be more pleased! The service was so friendly and personable. Robin treated me as if I was a long time customer and give me a quote which was considerably lower than the previous auto shop which had done the work on my front brakes & rotors two weeks earlier. But the story doesn't end there. After a few days, I was hearing a strange noise coming from my front tires when I applied the brakes. I call Robin's, and his manager, Scott told me to stop by after work and they would check out the noise. They raised my car up on the hoist and discovered the previous auto shop had neglected to lubricate the new pads on the front tires! So Robin's mechanic took the time right then and there to re-do the brakes pads with lubrication for me. And at no charge! Who does that? Since then, the noise has gone away. Robin's Auto Service has me for a customer for life! At Robin's Auto Service they treat you like family. This is an honest business. I was originally referred to Robin and as I have a 91 Ford Mustang that I could not pass smog and brought to four different shops and nobody would take this project on. It was a complicated situation but Robin looked at the car and I had all the proper equipment. Before I had a scheduled appointment Robin spent some time looking at my car twi different times, and he would not accept my money for his time, I want it Pam Saturday because he's the only one that would work on my car.
