The mechanic you always dreamed of finding. I can't stress enough how much relief I feel, knowing that there is a shop I could take my car to with full confidence that my best interests will always be held as a priority. I took my car in years ago and was so impressed with their honesty, integrity, and quality that I had my entire family switch mechanics for the first time in decades. Not only do they not overcharge you, but they go out of their way to ensure you are aware that more affordable solutions can be possible or that no work may be required at all. In a world where you're unsure whether or not your mechanic is pulling a fast one on you, you can finally put your guard down at Northgate Automotive. The appreciation I have for how they operate runs so deep that when I realized I hadn't already written a five star review, I came back years later to ensure I gave them their flowers. If are this deep in the reviews, trying to find evidence of an Auto Shop that will treat you with respect and dignity, circle this review with the red pen. Once you find the right mechanic, you never look back. read more

northgate automotive was super helpful in fixing minor things with my former daily driver, a toyota sienna! for fixing these minor things they were of very good value, far less than what you would expect at the dealership for the service requested- they make sure that your vehicle is running in tip top shape! read more

This team came to the rescue in an emergency. Fixed my mom's wheelchair in 15 minutes! Thank you very much

Call and call and call and call and no one answers the phone. At least have an answering service or hire more people.

After another mechanic quoted me $1500 for a new A/C compressor, I took it to Breno. He diagnosed a problem with the power supply. I didn't need a new compressor, just an inexpensive fuse and recharging the coolant, saving me a lot of money. Not only that, but he didn't treat me as if I didn't know anything about mechanics, and explained everything clearly and concisely. He is my new mechanic from now on. Sayonara to the old one! read more

Service and expertise was better than anything I've experienced in my 30 years of owning a car. I know I saved at least $700 vs. what the dealer quoted for repairs. Wonderful experience read more

For four years, until I moved out of the area, Steve and Breno took the best care of my 2010 Jeep Patriot. These two love being around vehicles, love talking about vehicles, love working on vehicles. From the horseshoe nail wedged deep in the groove of one tire to being able to identify and repair a weird problem with my engine and a rare problem with my suspension, any 'off-baseline' issue that I brought to Steve and Breno was handled swiftly, professionally, and competently. I only wish that there was a garage as excellent as Northgate Automotive where I am now. read more

So happy to have found an honest shop and i can bring my car in and not worry whether they're trying to do unnecessary work or charging me unfairly. Great work at a fair price and just overall nice folks. read more

An honest shop. Steve and staff were great in being honest about a water pump repair. The book time was 8 hours, Steve said he would charge based on actual time spent. Not what the book says. This saved me a lot of $$$. Finding a competant shop who deals in honesty and fairness is rare. I am bringin in my other car for a simple oil change and happily paying him more than a quick change place because I want to give him my business. Great shop. read more

I just went to Northgate Automotive for a regular tune up for the first time and I think I just found my car's new best friend! Steve is very professional and a genuinely nice guy to boot. read more

Steve is an amazing and honest mechanic. I thought I needed to replace the front brake pads on my ford ranger because I did not touch them for over 2 years. When I visited Steve he told me the pads actually had over 50% life left instead of installing the new parts anyways. Steve also fit me into the schedule last minute to do an AC recharge on my ranger day of and restored the AC system to blow cold again! Stand up service. Bring your car here if you want the job done right. read more

I called these guys because of their local reputation and of course their Yelp reviews. My BMW starter went out and I called for an estimate. Steve the owner let me know that don't work on BMW's but he was happy to give me a referral to local BMW specialist. I got my car towed to the other shop and they did an amazing job at half the price the dealer. I'll be leaving a Yelp review for them as well. Thanks again! read more

Steve and Breno are the best! I have an 2004 vehicle that, over time, was getting old with typical old-car problems. My previous mechanic would work on it but sometimes let me know that, "Hey, this is an old car. What do you expect?" Not so for Steve and Breno! They addressed some key issues in just a few hours. The net result was that my car now drives better - smoother, quieter, more responsive, and less vibration - than it has in years, and I hope to get a lot more years out of it. These guys are the best, and their prices are very fair. Thank you Steve and Breno. read more

Thank you Steve and Breno for going the extra mile to help us out even though you couldn't take us this week. appreciate you doing an evaluation and calling another place to get us taken care of - especially given our circumstances at the moment we can't thank you enough. We will be back for sure for our future automotive needs. read more

If you are looking for an auto repair place which will treat you with respect, communicate honestly, and does fine work for a reasonable price, then Northgate Automotive is the place for you. Steve is very level headed, has a ton of experience, and takes pride in his work. In addition, his garage is immaculate, which speaks to his attention to detail. I highly recommend his establishment. read more

Steve is honest, quick & much more affordable in his rates than most garages. He gave my Prius a 100K tune up a few weeks ago, and today when I was having trouble changing my headlights, he told me just to stop by and he's help. Seriously - no appointment - and he made time to get the lights changed. Definitely found my new mechanic! read more

Steve is an honest business owner and gives it to you straight. No upselling or pressure to do anything beyond what you came in for. I'd highly recommend him for any of your auto repair needs. read more

Had a problem with a steering wheel in a 2013 Elantra. Not from around here so made an appointment at a dealership. Their diagnostic charge is about $190 per their website. I wanted to find a mechanic in town that I could trust. I did a search and based on what I found on Yelp I called Northgate Automotive and ended up speaking with the owner. I decided to cancel the appointment at the dealer and took my car in. It was repaired the same day I took it in and for a price slightly over the diagnostic charge at the dealership. I figure it saved me about $300. Also, the shop at Northgate Automotive was clean and organized. I was completely satisfied and have recommended the shop to my daughter who lives here for all her maintenance needs. read more

Steve has been my main guy for a few years. He always does dependable, affordable and transparently-priced work on my Prius and my girlfriend's CRV. If there's ever an unexpected expense, he always gives you a call and checks with you. You won't ever show up to some surprise bill at the end. Even with COVID-19 restrictions of the last year, Steve was always able to get me in same week for a service or repair. I'm not a big car guy but Steve always explains stuff clearly. He's also just a great guy and loves to chat when you're picking up the car. Couldn't ask for more in a mechanic. read more

What a great customer service and experience! My car has stopped in the middle of the road (scary), I was lucky to avoid an accident. I had to hire the tow track to take a car to the mechanic. Steve was so professional and patient over the phone, and it helped to deal with otherwise stressful situation. My car got fixed within a couple of hours, and they even brought it to my house, because I didn't have a ride. It was quick, efficient, and extremely accommodating. Thank you so very much! read more

Well first this place is so cool! what a great space without the congestion of normal shops. I was housesitting when my headlight went out. It is an old car and was tough to get out and replace. I called another shop and they wanted to charge my $60 so called Northgate next - he said to come on over. He, the owner, didn't even charge me at all! If I lived in Marin I would go there for sure!! You can tell by looking at how clean it is and watching the guys work it is a quality place :) read more

I have been taking my cars to Northgate Automotive for years. They are nice guys, very competent, and always get things done pretty fast and at a reasonable price. They have gone "above and beyond the call of duty" for me several times. This is where I tell my friends to go! read more

My Lexus IS 300 overheated on my way home from work and I expected the worst. I towed my car to Steve and was expecting some type of engine damage. He found all the leaks, and fixed everything in less than a day. What I expected to cost over $1000, He repaired what was necessary ....i spent less than $200. He is now my mechanic for life. Best shop around, honest, friendly, a mechanic you can trust. I would recommend him to everyone. read more

I'll echo most all the reviews here - Steve is the best! Honest and trustworthy. He's not out of to take you for a ride, he just isn't built that way. If he can fix it he will and for the price quoted. Highly recommend. read more

Had a screw in my tire and called in about it. They told me to just drop by. Came in and was out in about 5 minutes! Now's that what I call great service. What turned out to be a not-so-great day having a screw stuck in my newly placed tire to a quick in-and-out service and friendly guys, I would definitely recommend this place. read more

The day before a 10 day road trip, the boot came off my right axle. When it happened, it was a bit scary because there was oil all over the engine and the smoke made it impossible to see what was wrong. Stressed, I called a few places. Earl at Northgate Automotive told me to drop it off and they would get to it asap. It took them a day to get a remanufactured part (thereby saving me $300,) but I felt that they were clear in their communications and they did their best to expedite the process. I'll be coming back if I have more car issues (knock on wood.) read more

Steve went above and beyond to help me out when I got a flat tire today! He knew that the hole in my tire was too big to fix, so not only did he recommend two tire shops where I could get a replacement tire (where he said they would give me fair prices and treat me well), he called them to set up an appointment for me! Best customer service experience EVER, and I wasn't even technically a customer! Thank you again, Steve! read more

I just called your shop to get an estimate on work. Whoever answered the phone said he didn't have time to talk to me because he had a customer. (What am I?) He said he would call me back so I started to give him my phone number. He interrupted me and said "What do you want done". A bit harsh, but you're busy... I can accept that. I told him that I wanted my transmission flushed, an oil change, and I need a new water pump, he instantly said he doesn't do that work and told me to call someone else and hung up the phone before I could say anything back. Your web site lists that you do all of those things. You need to get this guy off the phone because he's going to kill your business. If he is representing your shop, then I sure don't want any work being done there because they clearly don't have time to do things right and they clearly do not want work. I haven't had a terrible customer service experience like this in a long time. read more

Great fast and friendly service on a simple battery swap. When I discovered a day later that the battery company (Interstate) gave us the run-around on the warranty, Steve made good on a refund for me even tho' it was a pain for him and barely worth all the trouble. I appreciate that kind of integrity and I would highly recommend Northgate Automotive to anybody looking for an honest, competent, and reliable auto shop. read more

These guys are great. Breno and Steve treated me with such kindness. Last night the tassels on my top got stuck in my seatbelt and I feared I had just cost myself hundreds of dollars and would have to replace the seatbelt. I used a flashlight and some tools without success. Breno gave it a try and he got the fabric out and wella! My seatbelt worked again. They did not charge me. I have never been to this business and had no connection to them and they were willing to help me. I knew the dealership and most others would just tell me I needed a new part. They have won my business with not only this act of kindness but all of the great reviews they have. Thank you Breno! read more

These guys are so honest and dependable they are almost hard to believe. I live in southern California but work in our home office here in San Rafael frequently. Over the years I have had the misfortune of having several different cars break down or have mechanical issues while up here and it is always scary to trust somebody when you are far from home. Well you can totally trust this place, man! They diagnose with amazing accuracy, do perfect work and give you options if you are on a tight budget, they will honestly tell you what you should do immediately and what you can maybe put off until later without trying to scare you into more than you have to spend. read more
