I started taking my car here in the past year. He has done a couple of regular maintenance services for me. I've got an older Civic with a lot of miles. I appreciate that Steve will make recommendations (whether or not to do a certain part of the service) based on the age of my car. He recommended that I skip the valve adjustment. I decided to go ahead with it since my daughter will be getting car and want the car to be in good shape. Also, on this last service, he decided to not do the tire rotation. Hadn't done one mainly due to my car sitting more than being driven and VERY low miles for the year. Sadly my last home was in foggy Daly City and it ruined the engine with rust. I had no idea how bad that was living there. Steve said if he opened the engine it could be pandoras box and no way to come back. My car ain't worth much, but to me its worth 15k. Three short stories on why Steve's is the best place to take your car for auto care: #1: We took our older minivan here for service/oil change and it is fast, efficient, and fair. Steve was super honest. He didn't try to sell us on things we didn't need. Told us our van is old and will probably not be good for long trips (as it might break down) so best to stay local. I know he's right and appreciated his frankness and concern for our safety. #2: Last November, when our minivan had a bunch of the dashboard alert lights on (it is an old van), we took it to Steve and he reset the computer to try to diagnose the problem but the resetting fixed the lights and we didn't end up needing to do any work. He didn't charge us for the resetting. This wasn't a small thing, it took time, effort, and his special machine to reset so I was very grateful for him helping us. #3: In February, I had an appointment to bring my van in for a service but I missed it due to work, and when I called to apologize and to reschedule, Steve was super understanding and rescheduled with no issue. So nice! I'm super suspicious of 5-star reviews on yelp but Steve's Auto Care is one of the only places that really lives up to the rating. So glad people like him exists! read more

Wanted to add an update of how wonderful Steve is. I was doing a cross country drive from CA to NH and ask Steve to check over my and my son's car. I've been going to Steve's since I was 16 (now 34) and a common phrase in our family is "take it to Steve" whenever car troubles arise. I'd like to share a powerful memory that further lends to my prior statement. When I was 21 I took my 12 y/o Honda to a friend's family shop in San Mateo. I was quoted $1600 for new brakes and when I declined I was bullied by the mechanic. So much so that the mechanic originally threatened to have my car towed because "it would be negligible to allow me to drive". I ended up calling Steve and was guided through how to respond and told me to drive my car straight to him. Upon review Steve told me the brakes were needed but not nearly as bad as previous mechanic lead on. In addition the price was less than half the cost. Steve knew me and knew my old car and he located a good product at the best possible price. Whenever I tell people I went to Steve's, the common response is always positive and people love to share their experiences. I have an older Honda Accord Hybrid that needed some work on the emissions systems and I was getting quotes from the dealer that was in the thousands range, and other mechanics were saying that it would be in the $1000 range. However, I found Steve who looked it over carefully and found a way to solve my problem for less than half the lowest estimate I had on hand. It is very clear that not only does he know Japanese cars really well, but also that he knows how to keep them running in a reliable and safe condition, but he knows how to source replacement parts, and also treat his employees fairly. (Other mechanics in the area complained about how hard it was to find workers). Steve does not sell used cars, but if he did I would buy one from him just based on his recommendation as I am now thinking of replacing my car. Today is early Friday morning and I went to start my 2008 Acura TL Type-S when nothing happened. I parked the car the night before and there was no problem. This morning, total silence. Totally and fully dead battery in just 15 hours. The car was needed for a special dinner the next day in San Francisco. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Steve and asked if there was any way I could squeeze my car in that day to find out what happened. Steve's Auto Care closes early at 2:00 pm on Fridays and here it was already about 9:45 in the morning. He's had commitments to finish other people's cars by 2:00pm. He hesitated briefly and very understandably about my bringing my car in after I jump-started it. He said yes, bring it in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He worked on it himself so as not to interrupt what his technicians who were working to meet the other vehicle completion commitments. He performed a complete diagnostic test on the battery and the electrical system and found that the battery, still under warranty, needed replacing. He replaced the battery and also found that the car's stereo system had a constant parasitic drain on the battery from an internal short/component failure that would drain the battery if the car was not driven for several days, and the constant parasitic drain shortened the life of the battery. Even so, he replaced the battery under warranty, pulled the fuse for the stereo system and all was well. I picked the car up at 1:45pm. Thank you Steve!!! read more
