I have been taking my Lexus LS 460L to Steve's for many years, and the service has always been exceptional. More importantly, Steve is someone I trust. He is honest, fair, and consistently provides high-quality service and repairs. In an industry where it can sometimes be difficult to know whether a recommended repair or service is truly necessary, Steve stands out for his integrity. He takes the time to explain what needs to be done, never recommends unnecessary work, and charges a fair price. His knowledge and expertise with Japanese cars are outstanding. A couple of years ago, when it was time to buy a car for my 17-year-old daughter, one of the first things we did was ask Steve what he would recommend. We trusted his advice and ultimately purchased a car based on his recommendation. After many years as a customer, I can confidently recommend Steve to anyone looking for an honest, knowledgeable, and highly skilled automotive professional. read more

Fantastic, the gold standard. If all businesses were like Steve's Auto care the world would be a much better place. Honest, efficient, reasonable repair costs, thorough, and did I say honest?!! Wish there was a Steve's for German made cars!! Thank you Steve for your excellence- we have all noticed!!! read more

Steve has worked on every single one of my cars for the past 25 years. I've never been disappointed, or questioned the work he's performed and I have referred every single person that I know and lives within 30 miles of his shop! Not one person has ever complained or been disappointed in his work as well! I'm happy to see that he has hired additional employees and their work has never been called out and questioned... Highly recommended and a great family owned, family friendly reasonable independent shop that will not only give great dependable service but a lot less than going into the dealership! read more

At last, an honest car repair business! The dealership totally misled me. If you own a Japanese car, this is the place to go.

Steve's is hands down the very best auto shop! Steve is extremely honest, trustworthy, and does great work at a very fair price. I've been taking my cars there for years and will never go anywhere else. read more

We take our Lexus here since the warranty ran out and have been so happy with Steve & his people. The customer service is always really helpful, they answer all my questions and the price is always very fair. The only sad thing is that they won't work on our 2000 4Runner as it is just too old and so we have to take it elsewhere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place! read more

I had a great experience at Steve's Auto Care in Novato. I dropped off my car at 7:00 AM and it was ready by noon. The service was very fast and efficient. Steve explained everything clearly about the brake repair and what I should keep an eye on in the future. I really appreciated the honesty and the time he took to explain things. The service felt trustworthy, professional, and quick. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for reliable auto repair. read more

Honest and caring, worked on my son's Toyota Hybrid. My son will drive that thing into the ground. Fair and fast work. You'll talk directly with the guy in charge, with no BS. Thanks Steve! read more

This was my first visit to Steve's Auto Care. The shop was recommended to me and did not disappoint. They are very customer oriented, knowledgeable, and professional. Steve took the time to explain everything so I felt very comfortable. I needed a new battery and some brake work, and everything was completed in the time promised. I will definitely be going back there for future service! read more

I started taking my car here in the past year. He has done a couple of regular maintenance services for me. I've got an older Civic with a lot of miles. I appreciate that Steve will make recommendations (whether or not to do a certain part of the service) based on the age of my car. He recommended that I skip the valve adjustment. I decided to go ahead with it since my daughter will be getting car and want the car to be in good shape. Also, on this last service, he decided to not do the tire rotation. He said that I will need new tires soon and that I should leave the best tires where they were. I found the right shop for my car. read more

Steve's is the absolute best! Very honest business, which does not recommend unnecessary items or services. His work is very high quality, trustworthy, and efficient. My vehicle is rarely there for more than half a day. read more

Honest fair price. Work done on time when promised. Goes above and beyond to help when things cost more than first suggested. Would recommend to everyone. read more

Go to Steve's! 100 stars! Easily the best, most knowledgeable, trustworthy and professional mechanic I've ever been to. I brought in my Honda Fit with a misfire issue and was given the highest quality service I've ever received. Long story short, I was given an incredibly generous price on my spark plugs and ignition coils due to some issues caused by a sub-par repair job done by another shop. This is the only shop I'll go to now, hands down. Cannot recommend them enough. Thank you Steve! read more

Steve is the best. I have been going to him for 3 years now and always will. He is honest and fair with pricing and always tries to fit you into his schedule or get your car ready and out on time. Couldn't recommend him enough. read more

I've been meaning to leave a review for a while. Last year, I was told by the Lexus dealership that I had a leak that would cost me a lot more to fix than I was willing to spend. I wanted a second opinion and decided to call Steve, based on the glowing reviews here. Without hesitation, Steve told me I could bring my car in that day and he would look at it. His team inspected it on the spot and he was honest that, while there was no way of telling for sure without lifting the car up, they couldn't see anything that was concerning and he suggested I just keep an eye on it. He didn't charge me and sent me on my way feeling reassured. A year later and it still hasn't been an issue. Steve, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your honest advice and taking the time to look at my car. I now live in southern Marin so Novato is a bit of a trek, but if I were closer I would absolutely be taking my car to you! read more

Honest and trustworthy is what you want from "your" shop. A place where you will get it straight good or bad. I took in my car for a big scheduled service. Hadn't done one mainly due to my car sitting more than being driven and VERY low miles for the year. Sadly my last home was in foggy Daly City and it ruined the engine with rust. I had no idea how bad that was living there. Steve said if he opened the engine it could be pandoras box and no way to come back. My car ain't worth much, but to me its worth 15k. So He did what he could and didn't overcharge me or oversell me. You can't ask for anything else from a mechanic. HIGHLY recommended. Special thanks to my dad for once again recommending a quality locally owned place. read more

I discovered Steve's Auto Care here on Yelp last year when looking for a mechanic with great reviews to get a second opinion on a $3k estimate from my then-mechanic. Steve explained why the $3k repair wasn't necessary, and that he's had lots of other people coming in with estimates from other shops for unneeded repairs and/or for overpriced legit repairs. So, I started going to Steve, and he has surpassed his awesome reputation -- he's gone above & beyond by taking ample time to research parts for my 2008 Lexus RX 400h, to discuss the options with me, and give me the best prices. Each time I've gone to pick up my car from Steve's, my bill was below the quoted price! He & his guys really do "Care" about their customers and the integrity of their work... and they're just really nice people to deal with! I feel so fortunate to have found Steve's Auto Care! read more

This is the best auto mechanic for my Honda. Steve is a super nice man. He's incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful and really knows customer care. I would not go to another mechanic! I highly recommend this shop- read more

Three short stories on why Steve's is the best place to take your car for auto care: #1: We took our older minivan here for service/oil change and it is fast, efficient, and fair. Steve was super honest. He didn't try to sell us on things we didn't need. Told us our van is old and will probably not be good for long trips (as it might break down) so best to stay local. I know he's right and appreciated his frankness and concern for our safety. #2: Last November, when our minivan had a bunch of the dashboard alert lights on (it is an old van), we took it to Steve and he reset the computer to try to diagnose the problem but the resetting fixed the lights and we didn't end up needing to do any work. He didn't charge us for the resetting. This wasn't a small thing, it took time, effort, and his special machine to reset so I was very grateful for him helping us. #3: In February, I had an appointment to bring my van in for a service but I missed it due to work, and when I called to apologize and to reschedule, Steve was super understanding and rescheduled with no issue. So nice! I'm super suspicious of 5-star reviews on yelp but Steve's Auto Care is one of the only places that really lives up to the rating. So glad people like him exists! read more

Steve at Steve's Auto Care seriously rocks!! If you're looking for an honest and reliable mechanic for your vehicle this is the place. Plan on leaving your car for half the day, but Steve will call you as soon as it's complete. Very affordable mechanic and great work. read more

Honest and reliable. It's what all auto mechanic experiences should be, but few are. I trust Steve and his crew for my car and with my family's safety. read more

Steve is the epitome of the honest mechanic. I have 2 hondas and have been bringing them to him for a few years now. Every time I interact with Steve I learn something new, get my problem solved, and pay less than anywhere else. This is the kind of place you keep going back forever because you know you are getting the best service. I don't think I would want to buy a non japanese car because i wouldn't be able to use Steve. He is that good! read more

I was recently looking for a new mechanic. Although Steve's shop was a bit farther from my home than I cared to travel, I chose him because of the outstanding reviews he has received. Steve is a great mechanic. He is very accommodating. He was waiting for me in his parking lot as I approached. Steve is also a very nice guy. He doesn't price-gouge, he knows what he's doing, and one more thing; he laughs at my jokes. I will be using his services from now on. read more

Steve was very prompt, courteous and honest. He cut our brakes estimate from another mechanic significantly and was honest on what we really needed. He just inherited our business for the long term. We plan to go back to him with our Toyota. read more

The last honest auto repair shop. Just amazed at the candor that Steve just spoke to me with. I just purchased a new to me 2007 Lexus SC 430 with 29,000 miles. I told Steve I wanted to do the $1800 timing belt and water pump service that Lexus says must be sone each decade. Steve said " don't waste your money" I would not do it. Bring it in, we will look at it . Do it in a few years.. That simply does not happen in this day and age. This place is something special. read more

Open during quarantine!! Now is the time to get your car worked on! You're not driving it, and they have a little more availability right now. We just got oil changes and the needed tune ups and whatnot done on our cars. Never been before? The last mechanic you will ever need. I will only buy Japanese cars so that Steve will be my mechanic for life. He's never allowed to retire haha. Last summer my '94 Honda died and Steve went above and beyond to help me while I figured out what to do. I now have a Toyota that I know has many miles to go, and Steve will help me keep it on the road for years. They are being extraordinarily cautious with masks and gloves and safety protocols so you can feel good about dropping your car off (and I think for some people there might be an option for them to pick up and drop off cars for you if needed). List of Novato businesses still open here: https://bit.ly/3cjRfdE Be distanced. Be safe. But still support local business where you can!! read more

Wanted to add an update of how wonderful Steve is. I was doing a cross country drive from CA to NH and ask Steve to check over my and my son's car. We were driving down through AZ , during the massive heatwave and I was worried going through the desert, mountain passes etc. Steve checked out both cars, recommend some repairs and ensured they were done in time, even though I had come to him last minute Both cars made the drive through 106 temps , high elevation and grades. No issues the entire 7 day drive! read more

Steve is a true mechanic, honest and dependable and 100% trustworthy. I've brought both of our cars to him and he does quality work and will stand by that work. He and his wife run this shop and she is super nice too. I recently had what I think is an electrical issue with our Nissan and he was honest enough to say it was outside his scope and referred me to a great mechanic for that problem. I'm a fan for life of Steves auto care. read more

Amazing. Been looking for a reliable and honest auto shop for three years. Glad I found Steve!!

Thank you for all the ones that recommended Steve's Auto Care Steve gave me an estimate for the 60K and he called me to pick up the car and the cost is $260 because at my previous maintenance the shop that I went to replaced some of the items like filters. Steve is honest and his price is fair. Steve is so nice and I will bring all my Japanese cars to him!!!! read more

If you own a Japanese vehicle and want stellar, honest, cost effective, and competent service I highly recommend you considerSteve's Auto Care. You will not be disappointed. read more

I have an older Honda Accord Hybrid that needed some work on the emissions systems and I was getting quotes from the dealer that was in the thousands range, and other mechanics were saying that it would be in the $1000 range. However, I found Steve who looked it over carefully and found a way to solve my problem for less than half the lowest estimate I had on hand. It is very clear that not only does he know Japanese cars really well, but also that he knows how to keep them running in a reliable and safe condition, but he knows how to source replacement parts, and also treat his employees fairly. (Other mechanics in the area complained about how hard it was to find workers). Steve does not sell used cars, but if he did I would buy one from him just based on his recommendation as I am now thinking of replacing my car. Strongly recommended, but he only works on Japanese cars. I also met guy who drove up from San Francisco as he has had such a good experience with all his repairs over the years. read more

I've been coming to Steve for maybe 6 or 7 years now. He's an honest, down-to-earth guy and knows his Japanese cars backward and forwards. He has so many 5 star reviews I wasn't sure if he needed another one! The only downside to Steve is he's so popular these days that you might need to wait to get an appointment, so make sure to call ahead! read more

Steve's auto care is more than a car service shop and more than just a small business. This is a staple in the community that represents fair pricing and above and beyond service. I've been going to Steve's since I was 16 (now 34) and a common phrase in our family is "take it to Steve" whenever car troubles arise. I'd like to share a powerful memory that further lends to my prior statement. When I was 21 I took my 12 y/o Honda to a friend's family shop in San Mateo. I was quoted $1600 for new brakes and when I declined I was bullied by the mechanic. So much so that the mechanic originally threatened to have my car towed because "it would be negligible to allow me to drive". I ended up calling Steve and was guided through how to respond and told me to drive my car straight to him. Upon review Steve told me the brakes were needed but not nearly as bad as previous mechanic lead on. In addition the price was less than half the cost. Steve knew me and knew my old car and he located a good product at the best possible price. Whenever I tell people I went to Steve's, the common response is always positive and people love to share their experiences. In addition to honest feedback he creates relationships within his field, and on the extremely rare occasion he can't fix someone he'll always have a great recommendation. Can't thank him enough! read more

I called Steve to get a 2nd opinion. My Infiniti was at another shop and I was concerned about the inflated quote being given for the repair. Steve took the time to share what the costs of the parts are, what labor costs should be and how I should approach the quote. He did not pass judgment on the other shop but offered strategy, advice, and questions I should ask on why the quote was perhaps higher than it should be. His counsel was VERY helpful. We will now be taking our car to Steve for servicing! read more

I have been taking my car to Steve for a couple of years. He is always honest, tries to keep costs low (his prices are very low for a mechanic) and he takes good care of my car. It all started when, during the Pandemic, my son bought a car from far away (everything was closed during the Pandemic) and they sold him a bad car. Steve was consulted and he gave my son a full review of what was wrong with the car for free?!! He refused to take money. My son got his money back and got another car thanks to Steve's help. I then switched mechanics and have gone to him ever since. Couldn't be happier. read more

Steve has done it once again! Called Steve late Thursday before closing time, with a question regarding leaking fluid from under my car. Steve told me I could drop the car after hours that Thursday. Around 8am the next day I get the call that my water pump was leaking. Got a quote for $600 and was very satisfied with it. My car was done by 1pm! Any car issue I have will be taken to Steve's Auto Care. Thank you big time! read more

If you own a Japanese model automobile and need servicing you'll find Steve's to be honest, trustworthy, knowledgeable and professional.

I stopped by because my tire warning light came on. Steve as always helped me. I was surprised to see that he now has two auto techs working for him. Still hands down the best auto repair shop in Novato. Thank you Steve for all you do, now, don't go retiring on us. read more

I got some help from Steve without paying a nickel to him. I thought my starter was going but he assured me it was the battery. He was right! I'll be bringing my next car ( if Japanese) to him if I need any work done! read more
