Scott and his team are honest, thorough and underpromised and overdelivered. The 1st time I came for an estimate and his was the best of the 3. Price, honesty, timeline and a positive experience with other staff. The other guy, I wish I could remember his name. He was helpful and resouceful beyond my highest hopes. I recently came for an oil change and brakes. High rec for Scott and Novato Auto Care. Support small, local business. This one has honesty, integrity and hard work. read more

Scott is an honest and hard working mechanic who gets thinks done and communicates well.

Scott, who I believe is the owner is the rudest man I have ever meet. I brought my car by today to ask about a caution light that was on and he told me he did not have time for me. He directed me to the office to make an appt and than walked away. He just complete 2400. dollars worth of work on my car last week and he could not give me the time of day. I will definitely be bringing my car elsewhere. read more

My 2000-year-old Buick wasn't running right. So, I called Scott, he said bring it in. A couple of hours later, Scott's calling me, to come and pick up your car Found out a spark plug was bad. Scott, change all the plugs and wires, check everything out, tires, top off all my fluids. I was ready to go. Now I bring in my son's truck for service. What I like about Scott is, he fair and upfront with me on, my vehicles and good service. Michael Lynch read more

Went to these guys recently with an issue that a few (won't name names) other mechanics in the area couldn't figure out on my explorer. They got it knocked out in no-time and as far as i'm concerned they undercharged me. Super nice people and they know what they're doing. I'm not going anywhere else anymore. read more

I am pleased by my decision to take my 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid to Novato Auto Service. My car's electric battery needed to be serviced. I read articles online, and most recommended taking the vehicle to a Ford dealership. The dealership I called was taking appointments three weeks out, so I looked into alternative options. I called Novato Auto Service because they were the closest shop to my home. Scott reassured me that his team is trained on hybrid vehicles, and a few hours after leaving the car, I received a digital invoice asking me to approve the work. I was in the loop of all repairs, and when I got my car back after a few days (Scott needed to order a pair of fans that took five days to arrive) and I filled the gas tank, my range had decreased from an average of 450 miles to 350 miles. I was concerned that somebody had forgotten to connect the battery, but Scott told me the car had been sitting for some time and could be low due to the battery's self-discharge. He advised me to drive the car for a few days and see if my mileage increased. To my surprise, I drove the car from San Rafael to Oakland, and I could see my range ticking upwards. Scott knows his stuff! read more

I had great service from Scott and his son recently. My light came on, it turned out to be a defective water pump problem. It was diagnosed and fixed immediately. This is my new "go to" garage from now on !!! Great service ! read more

We highly recommend this great auto repair company. They exhibit a very professional behavior in all aspects. They were prompt, clear in their explanation of what they felt was the "problem" before proceeding. They did not describe the problem with a "Pie in the Sky" approach. They provided us with their authentic opinion and told us what to expect before they proceeded. They were very much like companies from years ago in their professional and traditional way of doing business and their prices are reasonable as well. Will recommend them to friends for sure and go back again when needed. read more

Website says trailers/RVs are part of their service. I called and asked about my pop-up trailer and after asking who answered got told "I'm not sure" and got transferred to the owner. We set a time to bring it in and I was told my husband would get a text with the appointment info. He didn't receive the text so I called today to confirm the date and was told Scott would call back. He called my husband back and was EXTREMELY rude! Needless to say we will not be going here. We love to support local as my husband is also a local business owner but there is no reason for rudeness. read more

This mechanic is horrible. Scott the owner was supposed to replace brakes. That was it but then did other unauthorized work that i didnt approve but had to pay for. Said my cv boot needed to be replaced which Honda did it under warranty two months prior. And if i knew honda would have coveted it. Stay away. Read some of the other reviews to learn about the bait and switch. read more

So wonderful that I bring my van from Sonoma to have repairs done here. Scott has done over $6000 work for my in the past 3 years or so. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!... After taking my truck to a different shop first I was given misleading and stressful information about what was going on with my truck. I was then referred to Novato Auto Service, I spoke to Kyle and Scott and they help me out so much!!! The news they gave me made my day .. the communication, honesty and return time on my vehicle was unbelievable... this place deserves more than 5 stars!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Thank you SCOTT & KYLE ! read more

We just moved to Novato and have already had 2 of our vehicles serviced by Scott. Tires, alignment, suspension, and brakes. He's honest about what's needed now, and what can wait, and for how long. I'm a former mechanic myself, and am quickly turned off by technicians who try to over-sell me services. Scott is busy enough, he doesn't need to do this. But despite him being so busy, he gets the job done fast, and and is a pleasure to work with. We'll be taking all of our family vehicles to him, moving forward. read more

This shop was excellent! I was able to drop my car off Sunday night, they checked and did everything I asked. I got a text with a link to a quote of the work they were suggesting and I was easily able to approve it. They were timely and professional. I will definitely take this car back and other cars to them! Special thanks to Scott, who talked me through the issues I was having and listened intently to my description. Car runs great now! I felt truly blessed to have found Novato Auto Service (NAS) when I did. Normally, I would take my car to Firestone Autocare in San Rafael. However, because my husband and I moved to Novato and the crazy labor prices Firestone charges, I wanted to see if there was a mechanic that would do a great job and is not out to gut punch my wallet. After checking some of the reviews, I decided to give NAS a chance. I called around 11:00 AM to see if there were any available times for me to bring my car in for an entire brake job and Scott was able to squeeze me in for 2:00 PM. I considered myself to be extremely lucky. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile and professional service. The woman in the office was extremely kind and made me feel welcomed. Upon meeting Scott, his approach of informing me of all the things that needed repair was extremely sincere and honest (because I knew all that was in need of repair). After seeing the quote for brakes, I was pleased to see that I wasn't spending the same amount I would have at Firestone. I will give a follow-up update once I receive my car. Just know that first impressions are lasting impressions and a great first impression was made. read more

Was visiting from out of town and check engine light came on. Called Steve first thing in the morning and he was able to get it on the diagnostic machine by the afternoon. So props for that. Unfortunately that's where things fell apart. After paying for the diagnostic I was told essentially there's something wrong with your transmission and it needs to be replaced. I was not provided a written diagnostic report with the code nor any kind of estimate. And when I called back and asked for an estimate I got a two line email with a price and nothing further. Since all of this was related to a recent no-fault collision the "service" from Novato Auto Service was not helpful. (I took it to a different auto shop when I got it back to my homebase, they provided a written report with codes that I was able to give to the insurance company.) Maybe because they knew I was from out of town Novato Auto Service wasn't particularly motivated to help me. Given my lackluster experience I would not recommend. read more

I took my 2014 Sienna into Novato Auto Service today for a new battery and to also inspect the condition of my cabin and air filters. Both Tanya and Scott were incredibly professional, and I was in and out in less than an hour. Scott was honest and told me that my air filter was in good condition, so only replaced the battery and cabin filter. After taking my van in for service at Novato Toyota, was was surprised by the prices that they quoted for such items. The pricing at Novato Auto Service was very reasonable, and I will definitely go back for routine service items in the future. read more

I'm very happy with Scott and his team service at Novato Auto Service. They take care of all three cars in our household. His straight forward responses made the decision easy. The job required some sluething. Scott nailed the issue and road tested the rig himself too be sure. I highly recommend Scott at Novato auto service. My car started to make a horrible knocking sound, I called the dealership to make an appointment and they put me three weeks out. I use my car for my business so this was not OK. After reading some reviews about Novato auto service I decided to give them a try. Scott was able to diagnose it and give me a quote a few hours after I dropped it off. He also gave me a rental car on the cheap! He said my catalytic converter had broken on the inside of that he had to order a new one from Ford. I was thinking it was going to be at least a week, WRONG!! He got the part ordered installed and had the job completed within 24 hours! No surprises on the quote, all-around excellent experience. I Highly recommend Scott at Novato auto service! read more

Scott and the crew at Novato Auto Service are great! I have no hesitation bringing my vehicles to them, because they are honest and will let you know what your options are before doing the work. Scott helped me out with a check engine light on my Chevy Avalanche that wouldn't go away. He spent a ton of time tracking down the problem, and only charged me a minimal amount for his labor. If he had billed strictly by the hour, it would have been thousands. They are a small, family run business, but they have a big enough shop space to handle multiple vehicles at once. "Total Scam Artist/ Bamboozler's who purport themselves to be wizzards in troubleshooting Electrical issues"! I have a 1995 For Chinook Concourse RV n bought it to Mr Scott Kaplan for diagnosis of a switch problem of having to hold my finger on the generator start switch to keep it running n no output of converting 12 volts to 110 Ac for internal power using the secondary system of electrical power. I got a call from Scott 8 days after leaving the RV with him n was surprised when he asked what type of generator it was n why the external power cord did not connect into a box. He sounded like he was drinking because the conversation was so off based and dis related to the problem at hand I couldn't help but wonder in apprehension if I made a mistake in hiring them. He told me he would get back to me n called me in 5 days thereafter to ask me when I was going to pick up the RX n stated my brushes on the generator had gone out n he couldn't pull the generator out to overhaul it. I came to pick up the RV on Thurs June 24 th n the only thing I could see that he did was check my tire pressure and connect the external pwr supply plug to see if I was getting 110 volts . BTW the owners operating manual was in the same location as when I dropped it off on the passenger seat and had never been read. They charged me $ 150.00 basically for nothing and my wife n I had to pass up a 3 day fathers day vacation. I located another RV electrical expert n Vacaville n he told me to open the generator door and check the generator breaker switch was (in the off position). I found the side generator door unlocked, opened it n turned the 30 amp breaker to the on position n pushed the gen start button and voila the generator came to life and I could hear the relays click on n the 110 volt was indicated in the cabin once more. These guys are either in an altered state or totally incompetent! My advice to you is to watch ur step with these guys ( particularly ur pocket book) . In my opinion it is unethical to charge a client for a diagnosis n repair if none are performed. read more
