The $48 cash price advertised on their website is a competitive rate in this area (prices have gone up everywhere lately). At 11am on a Thursday there was only one car ahead. No indoor seating but it's a chill spot to wait outside while they test. Pro tip: When the wait is longer I stroll over to Fat Apple's and grab an almond danish. read more

The process was smooth and fast. I arrived 8:30AM and associate said the test would be done in 10-15 min. I took a 13min walk and when I returned the car was in fact done and passed SMOG. Cash price promotion was $48 for newer than 2010 regular smog test. This station was reccomended by a friend and I'd come again read more

Great place for a no appointment walk-in smogging. It took all but 10 minutes or less from start to finish for slightly more than $50 for everything! read more

Friendly & efficient customer service. When the worker approached my car I said I was looking for a Groupon coupon on my phone and he told me "yes, we have a coupon" and he honored that slightly lower price for my smog test. I also learned that mornings are the best time to drive in for the test. They get busy and backed up in the afternoons. Fortunately, there's a beautiful public library just across the street so if you have a long wait just go there to get out of the rain and pickup a good book. read more

Rolled up and they were able to take care of me quickly on a rainy day. Appreciate that I didn't need an appointment.

Needing my first smog check since moving to the East Bay, I found 4 Less Smog through their coupons that come in the mail. Operating out of a single-car garage within a Chevron station, I was able to be in and out within 15mins as I came during a rainy day and there was no one else in front of me. They will only accept the mailer coupons if you pay with cash. Service was friendly, however there is no real waiting area due to the limited space. So you'll basically have to stand around outside while they perform the smog test. read more

I have been going here for years but it seems like they changed. The website is gone so I called for the price and was told $58 cash. When my daughter took the car in they told her she had to pay $68. Pink tax? read more

My 2006 car passed smog! I'm just happy about that. They charge more for cars older than 2010.

Ifeta is the best! She took care of me and my daughter's new car today. Very professional, knows her cars and smog stuff and most of all she's honest and friendly. She's not just trying to sell you or greedy for business like other Smog shops are in town. Thank you Ifeta!! read more

I've been coming to this smog check station for all my cars for many years. I do find them reliable and the employees nice. I came recently and printed out the coupon from their website. But when I presented it to the employee he said they are no longer taking coupons. Another customer came after me with a coupon from the Valpak mailer so I told her he would not accept my coupon but she could try asking him. I left before I found out what happened with her. I paid cash and it cost a total of $38 to smog my 2013 SUV... And it passed inspection. read more

Valpak coupon said $29.75 plus State Certificate Fee. When I arrived I was told STAR inspection was $39.75; nothing on the coupon about this. Don't be fooled. read more

4 LessSmog Check is my go-to place for smog check. Brandon went the extra mile for as as I was concerned that a catalytic converter shield would get in the way of getting a smog check there. Brandon went above and beyond and explained to me the process. Thank you so much, Brandon! read more

I've come here twice before and I always receive fast, friendly service. My car passed its smog check and it cost me $58, which felt reasonable especially for such hassle free service. I recommend! read more

Returned to this business for the inevitable smog check - groan. But we all should help reduce air pollution for the coming generations. Per usual, the service was speedy & the tech very courteous. This shop continues to be less expensive than other smog stations around the Bay Area, well worth the drive. Although my Chevy Camaro is nearly 30 years old, the tech said it's running like a new car, i.e., it drives exceptionally clean. I expect another letter of congratulations from the State for that. I highly recommend this business! read more

Great experience. Very polite and reasonably priced, especially for a STAR-certified station. Highly recommended!

Toyota Prius Catalytic Converter theft in the East Bay is an epidemic. I wish the technician had the awareness to ask me if my Prius had a Catalytic Converter had been stolen and I had a cage on it. It would have saved me from having him perform a smog check that I failed. If you have a Catalytic Converter Cage please inform the technician before he does the test. This station is not equipped to remove read/inspect Cat Cages. read more

Recommended this place to my fiance after having a decent experience here. When I went there no one was in line ahead of me. He honored the $19.95 price advertised on Yelp and I was in and out in no time. However, I brought my fiance here and there was a car ahead of us in line. He said it would be $67 + the certificate fee. When we mentioned the price shown on Yelp, he said he would honor that price. However he said the car ahead of us in line would take 45 minutes.... It was an older car but I don't see any realistic reason a smog check would take so long. So we took our business elsewhere. We ended up at 15 minute smog test on Sacramento St. $29.95 INCLUDING the cert fee read more

Haggled me at the door to raise price and didn't honor online deal Still affordable, just not what was advertised on Yelp read more

Bad customer service. Prices tool from clouds. I do not recommend this place. There are many other services around. And they don't offer free retest. read more

4 Less Smog Check - Entrance - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Berkeley, California

Quick and painless Smog Check! Friendly, too! Their Yelp check-in only works for non-STAR smogs (can't pay extra for the STAR + coupon any more). Still the cheapest place around for non-STAR Smog checks! I needed a STAR Smog and I came here anyway, as I have for several years, because it's quick, friendly, and painless! read more

Quick, excellent, attentive service! And at the best price! Most places I had called were twice the cost.

I had to get a smog check in order to renew my car registration. I called ahead because I didn't know whether they were still open because of the coronavirus shelter in place mandate. The woman who picked up the phone quoted me for $28, monthly special if you pay with cash. She also mentioned that there was no requirement to make an appointment. I drove up in the afternoon around 3 pm and was helped right away. The employee took extra measures (wearing gloves, was conscientious about social distancing, and didn't enter my vehicle) because of coronavirus concerns. I was very appreciative of this. The check was very quick, I received my receipt and they submit the results to the DMV itself. This was a very quick and easy smog check. I would recommend others to come here for a smog check. Service was friendly and fast. **Call ahead for the special cash price. read more

The service was fast and to the point, as I would have liked. Pricing caused some surprise and confusion. Apparently, they have 2 websites. And the one I happened to visit (smog4less.com) does not mention the +$10 cost for START certificates. read more

I received service beyond the call of duty at 4 less smog. First Iseta greeted me. She was very calm and gave me the exact time of how long I would wait. It was 20 minutes She offered comfortable chairs or suggested a nice walk in a quiet residential neighborhood. Very relaxing. Next Branden did the test. After telling me my car passed the somg test, he gave me excellent advice on preparing for a smog test in the future. Then Branden helped me fix my horn on my car that had not been working. Very patiently he read my owner manual and we fixed it. I could not ask for better service. read more

The folks here are amazing! Very informative if I do ever have a vehicle that does fail but usually it's smooth sailing.

Beware they may close early. I arrived for a smog check at 5:45pm. No one in line. The tech was speaking to family on the phone and refused to help me. When I mentioned that the open times were till 6pm, he told me "But I can also close anytime" and then (nonsensically) said he was open next day 8am-6pm. read more

Quick smog check and cheaper if you pay in cash! They report results directly to the DMV. The North Berkeley branch of the library is right across the street, so you can stay warm in there for the 10-15 mins required. read more

stoked to find this place - drove a little extra, but it was worth it. easy to find, easy to pull in - the difference between $55 and $28 is a few meals in my world. Cash only for the Yelp deal tho! The guy was soooo super nice, at 5pm there was no wait, took like 5 minutes for my elderly Prius. They send in the electronic thing to the DMV and you're golden. Thank you!! read more

4 Less Smog Check - my car feeling comfortable and smog free! - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Berkeley, California

They are charging much higher fees for a simple smog check than before. Not the same person that used to be there and they don't take appointments any more. I brought a coupon and then the owner said cash only, apparently it was listed in the small letters of the coupon. She also does not apply the coupon for care model year 2010 or older. Overall it felt like a bait and switch kind of place, not like the previous rechnitian used to run it. After 15years getting my cars smog checked here, will not be back. read more

4 Less Smog Check is a great outfit. I've gotten several vehicles smogged there over the years. I recommend it to everyone.

Great smog place. Best quoted price. Straight forward. The other two places I went to,I felt like they were trying to flea market haggle and rip me off. Here, the person gave me a fair price and smogged the car right away. read more

All time Favorite. Quick and efficient. Mr Mike is very professional and nice. Thankyou read more

Unkind, Rude, Unprofessional Owner Who Harassed Me Via Phone. If you are only interested in a cheap rate and DO NOT care about the the nature of the man who runs this business, then DO spend your money here. If you DO care about being treated in a kind and professional manner, DO NOT give your business to this unkind, condescending man. The particulars: Two years ago, I had a positive & professional experience at this business. I received kind treatment and great value, which was the basis for my return. Today, 5.2.23, on-site Smog Tech Mike (who is NOT the owner) was matter-of-fact when he told me that my 1st coupon, an early bird rate of $28 cash, was "no longer accepted," though the coupon had no expiration date. My 2nd coupon for $33 cash had expired, so I pulled another current coupon up on Valupak which did state there is an extra charge for "SUV's". Mike told then me there would be a $10 additional SUV charge. However, I have a compact SUV, which was smogged at this site two years ago, without any additional charge BECAUSE it is not a full size SUV. When I explained my prior experience to Mike, he told me to call the owner and gave me the phone number. The owner stated the early bird coupon was not his coupon (although it clearly stated his business' name & his tech Mike told me that coupon was "no longer accepted"). He listened briefly, then interrupted me numerous times, before I finally was able to make clear that, two years ago, my vehicle was NOT up-charged as a full SUV, as it is a compact. The owner refused to address that simple fact, instead hit a crescendo and blurted that I could take my business elsewhere. His voice had reached a level of vehemence and fury. I said I would NOT do business with him. I told him how unkind, rude and unprofessional he acted & how I would share that information; I ended the phone call. I apologized to Smog Tech Mike, wondered aloud how he could work for such a man, wished him luck and left. A few moments later, several calls came to my phone from the owner's number; I declined all of them and blocked his number. The owner's harsh, condescending speech and his subsequent phone harassment are inexcusable, improper and just plain wrong. Please consider my experience before choosing to do business with him. read more

This smog is the best I've gone to so far. Quick and very helpful. I've gotten 10 vehicles smogged the past 2 weeks without a hiccup. Technicians Brandon and Erick are very respectful and answers every question i have. Ifeta also very kind and helpful. I plan to take 10 more vehicles within the next couple of weeks. Great service. IN and OUT. No more than 15 minutes. Makes my job smooth sailing. Highly recommend this smog test if you plan to have a quick and easy smog. read more

Coming back here after 2 years and still get 28$ cash price! No other shop can beat the price :) Very fast service, I was lucky that I call in and they have no other customers. There is no enclosed waiting room, it is an open outdoor space so better dress warmly in winter. read more

OVER PRICED. More than twice as much as other shops and didn't mention to me that there was a cash option for less. Don't bother with this place. read more
