I had been keeping an eye on a 2026 CR-V on Berkeley Honda's website because they were one of only two dealerships in the area that had the color I wanted. My brother and I stopped by to take a look. I'm the type of person who doesn't like salespeople hovering while I'm browsing, so I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxed atmosphere. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience so others can be careful when buying a used vehicle from Berkeley Honda. I purchased a 2012 Jeep Wrangler from this dealership for around $18,000. During the sales process, the staff was very friendly and welcoming to the family. I was told the vehicle came with a 24-month / 24,000-mile powertrain warranty, and I was reassured that if anything went wrong I could bring the vehicle back and it would be taken care of. Unfortunately, my experience after the sale has been the complete opposite. After driving the Jeep only about 2,200 miles, the vehicle broke down and had to be taken to a Jeep dealership for diagnosis. I was then informed that the vehicle needs a major repair to the powertrain wiring harness, which is estimated to cost about $5,000. Despite the fact that this issue involves the powertrain wiring, Berkeley Honda has refused to help with the repair and claims that the issue does not fall under the powertrain warranty. What has been even more frustrating is the lack of communication and accountability. When it was time to sell the vehicle, everyone was very responsive and helpful. But once the problem appeared, that support disappeared. Calls have gone unanswered and emails have been ignored. I have only made three payments on this vehicle before this major issue occurred. Now I'm facing a $5,000 repair bill on a vehicle I just purchased, and I've had to take BART to work while trying to figure out how to afford the repair. At this point I am filing complaints with the California DMV and other consumer protection agencies so the situation can be reviewed. My advice to anyone considering buying a used vehicle from Berkeley Honda: * Have a trusted third-party mechanic inspect the vehicle before purchasing * Carefully review what the warranty actually covers * Do not rely on verbal assurances during the sales process I regret trusting the promises that were made during the purchase. I have had a very positive experience using Berkeley Honda to service my 2010 Accord. I've met consistently with David, who helped diagnose a rattling sound in my car @ 5 years ago, which has supported the car to function well ever since. David, along with Amanda and Edie, are a strong team. They are each client-centered and have capably responded to my car's need for service, even when I showed up without an appointment. David has been conscientious about reviewing and discussing my car's maintenance with me. He has taken care to recommend only what's needed, not unnecessary work. Also, I've received oil top-offs for free according to my car's need during my service visits. I'm impressed by how long my Accord has lasted, and I attribute that to the quality of professional care from the service team. Very friendly and fast - good prices too. Across from Berkeley Bowl - perfect place to hang while getting some quick service done. Didn't have an appointment and tried to get an oil change on the spot a few hours before they closed. Was impressed with squeezing me in and also having time for some tire pressure monitor batteries. Prices are great - check online for service deals. I like older cars but I don't like ones that have problems - I find the best way to deal with it is address things as they come up. My TPMS light had just come on and since they could change it all on the spot I decided to get it done. It really is a safety issue - I like having a light go on when there is a nail in the tire or a slow leak. With TPMS you are not likely surprised by a blow - which can be very very dangerous if your going at highway speeds. I suppose if you are the type to squeeze every dollar out of your car you might not find yourself coming here - rather some corner lube boys - but I'd rather a professional torque my drain plug bolt - I've seen these things stripped by saving $5 or $10. I really would encourage anybody to go to the dealer. Often times I think its even cheaper to go to the dealer than elsewhere especially if your using OEM parts. Some mom and pop shop will take the honda price parts and then mark them up even more. Even more costly mistakes is using off brand power steering fluid and Hondas are very sensitive to that. Some lube boys save $3 a quart and then 6 months later you wonder why your steering rack is leaking. I also really liked the waiting room and proximity of the service advisors to the mechanics. This was particularly nice here - Mercedes of Pleasanton has a similar layout where you can see your car from the waiting area. ' I do believe Hondas last a very long time. They are one of my favorite brands. As a good rule of thumb change brake fluid every 2 years, coolant every 5 years and transmission fluid every 40k miles - and don't be too stingy. There is nothing more expensive than being stingy with your car. You will pay for it one way or another - a spin out on the highway - brakes that boil and fail - or a costly transmission repair. read more

I brought my Honda Fit in for a routine B1 maintenance (oil change and tire rotation) on Aug 21st. I also informed the staff that I had been noticing a gasoline smell in the cabin when first starting the car and that the engine was idling roughly during some stops. I asked that these issues be inspected before we continue with the B1 maintenance to ensure that the car was in well enough working order to spend money on the B1 service. The staff later informed me that my car passed their inspection and we should continue with the service, as they "could not reproduce the problems" I had described. They suggested I add the 100k mile spark plug package to my service (for $1000) but I declined, as I planned on upgrading to a new car within the next 18 months or so. That same day after the service was completed, my engine light turned on while I was driving home. I called Honda and they denied responsibility and claimed that anything can happen and that they aren't able to tell the future. I understand coincidences can happen, but the timing was uncanny. I brought my car back in for further inspection and I was told that a spark plug had ejected, their specialist didn't feel comfortable rethreading the spark plug, and that I would need a new head assembly for 6k. I was disappointed this had not been discovered before the service considering I had flagged these issues beforehand and now they were telling me my car is essentially unusable after spending almost $400 on maintenance. I went to another mechanic to get a second opinion. They inspected the car and informed me that there was no spark plug ejection at all. Some spark plugs were loose and would need to be replaced, but none of the threads had been damaged. They believed Honda Berkeley was taking me for a ride and they performed the service for much less money than Honda Berkeley had quoted me. My car has been performing wonderfully since. When I asked management for a refund on the B1 service that I believed was fair considering the situation they refused to do so claiming they can't predict the future. I can tell you that I'll never be returning to this stealership again. They are dishonest and absolutely untrustworthy. 0/10 cannot recommend read more

I'd called around to several dealers trying to balance reasonable pricing with professional service, even though I don't live in Berkeley and had only used this dealer a couple of times before. As someone who knows a bit about auto mechanics, I've been disappointed by other dealer advisors who suggested services that weren't even applicable to my model. I drive a Honda Civic that I bought used about a year ago and a couple messages were posting on my dashboard screen. One said I needed to check the pressure in my tires and another said that the battery in my keyless remote needed to be changed. I happened to be in Berkeley and stopped in at the dealership to ask how to change the battery and have the tires checked. They couldn't have been more helpful and courteous. They replaced the battery and checked the tires promptly and identified a tire that needed to be replaced. I didn't buy my car there but there was no charge. These were very simple tasks, it's true, but some places will make even simple tasks seem complicated to get a few bucks out of you. The people here just got the job done and sent me on my way. They ended up charging me $8000 more than CONCORD would have. My fault for not verifying and taking the word of the salesman. The finance department hooked me up with Honda financing which they said had the best rates they could find. Another lie, I ended up refinancing right away through my credit union for 2% lower. I have used this dealer for service ever since I bought my 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid. Everyone seemed so friendly and it's close by, so I was very happy. But recently I needed a 10,000 mile service. On the phone they said it would be about $150. When I arrived, they said I should change the transmission fluid too. The final cost was $612! Of which $480 was labor. It took only an hour. Friends tell me there is no way that transmission fluid needs to be changed only at 10K, usually it's 30K to 50K. I emailed the administration and got no reply. I'm really disappointed and will probably start going to Art's Automotive again. read more

I brought in my 2018 Honda Civic SI Coupe for a full tune up. I was charged nearly $750 dollars, for what? For all the sensors and lights to come up on my vehicle (literally). I can not access Sport Mode, my incline sensor doesn't work ( Manual Driver). I have always changed the oil on my car myself for the fear that I take it to the dealership and this happens. I vocalized to the employees my concerns at this dealership, and nothing. Now I am contacting other mechanics around my neighborhood to fix all the issues that are going on. Called and mentioned all these issues, no call back, even though they said they would. Fully regret going to Berkeley Honda if this was going to mess up my Honda Civic SI coupe. My check engine light is on at 77,000 miles, after I visited them (Never had a check engine light when I would do my own maintenance on my car). I don't trust them working on my vehicle, maybe a reference to another Honda dealership is best. I've had my vehicle serviced at this Honda location a few times (oil changes,etc) For oil changes, the front intake staff have always been helpful but the service appointments have always been longer than anticipated and little communication to let us know about delays (even pre pandemic). Recently we setup an appointment to have our car reviews so we could possibly sell to them. Guy on phone was ok, but showed up day of and waited a half hour with no response and person was not there. I was passing through town and had a low tire pressure warning light. I also had locking lug nuts but I did not have the proprietary key to unlock them with me on this trip (bad!) I called their # and could not get anyone to answer so I went there. It was busy but I had no trouble pulling g my car in and after less than 10 minutes I was talking to a technician. I left my car with them for a few hours and went for a walk-came back and they had completed a service (including oil change) and fixed the tires issue. Don't use the service shop here. Was quoted 25K maintenance for $285. Was told I should get break fluid done for $179 and transmission fluid for $179. I chose to only add the break fluid, and my service cost went up to $565. When I asked why it went up, I was told I was wrong, and it was originally $385. They will lie to you. If you do come, make the appointment online and list all the things you want done. Print out the online quote and bring it with you. Otherwise, you will be ripped off and stolen from. TLDR: I came for a recall and was told I needed over $700 worth of work and they gave me a flat tire and refused to take responsibility for it. I brought my car here last week for a drive shaft recall. When I picked it up a few days later, they had done an inspection and told me it needed a lot of work and that replacing the spark plugs and fixing a leaking oil valve would cost $700 (classic dealership inflation). I left and had barely driven around the block when the low tire pressure light went off. I pulled over and checked the pressure on all my tires and found that, despite the tires supposedly being checked in the inspection, one tire was 10 pounds below pressure. I drove back to the dealership and they found a nail in it and offered to fix the flat for free. When I came back 20 minutes later, they insisted the flat was NOT from the nail, but from the tire pressure sensor being loose. They said the people who replaced my tires must have installed the tire pressure sensor wrong and that they couldn't fix it, so I needed to take it back there. I explained that I bought my tires NINE months ago, so if this was an issue, it should have arisen way before this, but they refused to do anything else to fix the tire. Service Pricey (but excellent service) - Marketing = Predatory. I really liked the service manager for my Honda Fit. There was some warranty covered issues and he gave me great advice: "Nothing breaks on Honda Fit's until 110,000 miles when you need a water pump." The service coordinator for my Honda CRV did a bit of a hard sell for a $350 fluids change. For $350 someone ought to be doing more then my CAR, ;-) but, OK, it's a dealership. The service they did do: oil change and repair a tire was quite reasonable (synthetic oil changes at those oil change places are $70, at Berkeley Honda Autocenter it was $50). Cool. Not cool. The marketing department: I've posted a photo of one of the two mailings I received from (marketing) Berkeley Honda Autocente (or someone who sells them this crap); which is clearly designed scammy-like stuff to frighten: the LETTER IS IN BOLD and in a San Serif Type is all quite plain SO THAT IT CAN LOOK OFFICIAL. It's not. It's scare tactic sales crap and for that they get one star and lose my business permanently. Shame on you Berkeley Honda Autocenter for using cheap tricks like trying to make me think that this "notice" of my "limited amount of time has been allotted to the expiration of your vehicle's basic limited factory warranty coverage" is anything more then the same scare tactics that I observed at the Honda dealership I bought the car from (Dublin Honda) -- except it that case the 120k warranty was worth the b.s. sales tactics.
