I had a really positive experience with Hudstead's Auto Body after my insurance recommended them to repair my Honda Civic. The staff was very easy to communicate with and getting updates throughout the process was simple. They send updates through text message, which made it really convenient to stay informed. I also appreciated how organized and thorough they were. They kept records of all of our interactions and even took photos documenting the damage to my car. They took the time to clearly explain what damages were found and what repairs were needed, and they were very patient with all of our (sometimes tedious) questions and concerns. When I later came back with a couple of small follow-up issues related to the repair, they immediately got to work and fixed them promptly without any hassle. Everyone I interacted with was kind, professional, and helpful. As a woman, I especially appreciated how respectful and comfortable they made the experience feel. I started researching body shops after a collision with a deer. A friend recommended Husteads in Berkeley and they were on my insurance company's approved list. I'm glad I chose them. Tim was very helpful during the initial appointment. When they were assessing the damage, I mentioned my wife's car had a small dent in the right front fender that I wanted to get an estimate for. Tim guessed it would cost around $1,500 if they took it in. But he said he could make it look better with a little paint remover and polish. 10 minutes later, the dent was barely visible. No Charge! The repair on my car took a little longer than anticipated, mainly because they had to scrounge parts for my '17 Volt from various places in Nor. Cal. But when the car was done, it looked like new. I'm writing this as a long overdue followup to a review I wrote about 5 years ago on a badly botched paint job done on three panels of my black Nissan 370Z. I ignored the shop owner's request to discuss the matter, as I saw no point in discussing the matter of the shop's business practices. I brought the car to a well respected detailer who did a multi-stage polishing job and coating, being able to correct most of the paint imperfections on the repainted panels. I had the entire car repolished and recoated for a total of about $3k, a lot of money but it was worth it to me to finally get the car back to its pre accident condition. My recommendation would be to look at organizations like Diamond Certified to find good shops to do good work on your car, if it's a car you care about. read more

For shame. I had a slight dent in my passenger side door, that resulted in a massive squeaking sound every time the door was opened. I brought my car to this body shop and asked what it would cost for them to pop out the small dent so that it would stop squeaking. They told me that they would have to remove the door and repaint the entire thing... and tried to charge me $3,000. I said that wasn't what I needed, and asked again what it would cost to do the work I was requesting. They said they would only do it for three grand. I said no way, and took it down the street to another body shop... where a kind gentleman popped out the ding in approximately 10 seconds and charged me zero dollars. True story. As you can see by all the reviews, Husteads is the absolute BEST. I've been a faithful customer for years. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. They're expert at what they do, they're great communicators and genuinely eager to help, and perhaps most important to me, they're 100% honest and trustworthy. This time I had a dent in the front fender of my Prius, which I got when a car hit me as I pulled out of a parking spot. The timing was particularly bad, as I'm about to buy a new car and trade in this one. Tim, the manager, looked at it and said that it would probably cost me about $1,000-$2,000 off my trade in value. It wasn't worth my getting it repaired before selling it. I think Tim saw how depressed I was, so he told me to bring the car in the next day and see what they could do. "Let me work some magic," he said. And magic it was! I brought in the car the next day, and two hours later he called me to pick it up. The fender looked like new. I am finally sitting down and writing this review because I can't get this experience off my head. Back in 2018 when we had just bought our Volvo XC60, a car backed into the front of our car while trying to get out of the parking space up the hill. We took the car to Husteads. They seemed so nice and excited and got our car fixed up fast, a bit too fast in my opinion. They replaced the front grill and it looked fine with a bit of gloopy paint job. The owner or manager came out and said it's ok nobody will see it, even offered us a bottle of wine as a gift, which we refused. We were still in shock about the accident and from the good reviews they got, we thought they were on top of things, and drove the car home. Little that we know there were extensive damages behind the front grill. We were so busy with our work and life that we didn't see the damage until one day we looked more carefully with flash light and found misalignments and cracks on the frames behind the grill. Also our a/c was never cold and made strange noise which we thought was part of the car because the accident happened right after we bought it. It turned out that the air hose was crushed and needed replacement as well. We brought the car back to Husteads but a guy came out to look at it and said he would get back to us but he never did. They never fixed any of these problems afterwards. They did admitted that they never worked on the XC60 before this time. We ended up taking our car to a quality body shop up north who identified all the problems and fixed it up like new. It's a shame and we were really upset because the accident wasn't our fault and the person who backed into our car had good USAA insurance which would have had no problem paying to fix all the damages. We didn't know if Husteads pocketed most of the payout and spent little to fix our car nor they just didn't know how to fix our car or both. I would not recommend bringing your car here. Being the Duke of a collision repair shop is not really what I was hoping for. However, I am. A broken window car burglary wasn't enough. The assholes had to scratch the door as well. A FastTrack pass and a lint brush is what they stole. Hustead's is the AAA approved vendor so it was painless hassle. Took five days to complete and my whip looks like new. Well, it is. Had damage to passengers door and side mirror from hitting a post. Also some damage to front end. Husteads did a pretty good job with the repairs, but neglected to repair damage to the side mirror. A month or so later, I noticed that the front grille assembly had shifted, leaving a gap where the grille meets the hood. Took the car back and adjustments were made. When I asked about the side mirror, technician claimed that the damage to the mirror was new and not their responsibility, however said he would contact the insurance company about it. Brought my car in for a repair and it was done within the quoted time frame. That's the only positive part of the experience. Paint and clear coat was over sprayed resulting in hardened drop like features. Windows must have been down the entire time so the entire inside of car was returned covered with shop dust. To make matters worse, had a brand new pair of shoes in the trunk that were no longer there. Stolen? I know they went in the trunk because items I had in the cabin were now in the trunk.
