Incredibly impressed and grateful! My catalytic converter was stolen right before relatives were coming from out of town and we were going on a roadtrip. Insurance didn't cover a rental and I was panicking. Roman was an absolute LIFESAVER and managed to diagnose the issue, get the parts ordered, and get the mechanic to make the repairs in less than two days. Just in time to pick up the relatives from the airport! AAA recommended them. They replaced my bumper and fastened the old lower bumper skirt to it and the end result looked very poor. When they finished the job, not only did the lower section look poor because they didn't paint it with the new bumper, but the thing was barely attached! A slight pull with my fingers along the bottom of the entire bumper showed the thing was really not connected to the new bumper at all!! I can only guess they thought I would just let it fall off a few miles down the road an never notice! So I had to bring the car back and force them to do their job and connect the thing. Really THEY ABSOLUTELY FAILED! I would NEVER recommend them and will never go back! read more

Had to find a local auto body shop when my car was recently scraped while parked in a public parking lot. State Farm recommend a few local, certified shops, and Chilton Auto Body was on the list. Calling in to make an appointment was easy and pleasant. And drop-off was quick and painless. The initial repair process took about a week and a half, which overall was a pretty impressive turnaround window. Unfortunately when I first went to pickup my car, I noticed a few damages that I had pointed out during drop-off that was not repaired. This resulted in the need to leave at the shop a few days longer in order to correct. And upon picking up the 2nd time, noted 1 dent that was still missed. But it ultimately was minor, so I did not press the issue. They did call an Uber for me after dropping off my car which was definitely appreciated! read more

Had a terrible experience with this shop. First time we went there they told us the repair would be about 2 days. We made an appointment a bit more than a week out. When dropping off the car on a Tuesday they told us should be done by Friday. Later that same day they asked us if they could transfer the car to their Oakland location to do the repair. Thursday morning the Oakland location contacts us and wants new paperwork signed and tells us it would be a five day repair and they have not done anything. Excuse me? The reason we allowed the transfer was for it to be done on Friday. Bringing the car back to Berkeley would be a 2 week repair. Why would you tell us it's done on Friday if you don't actually have capacity in the shop? Why would you not even start working on it until Thursday morning when it is supposed to be done on Friday? Why would you not tell us that new paperwork is necessary after transfer? I have rarely seen a business with such shady practices. We ended up spending several hours on dropping off the car, getting the reantal car and lyft rides. Had to go to the Oakland location to retrive our car unrepaired, bring the rental car back to just having to do it all over again. read more

They fixed our car ahead of schedule and at every point in the process they were courteous, professional and informed. After they fixed our car, we had to come back for a small exterior part that was delayed in shipping to be installed, which they did quickly. But the best part was that they fixed a lengthy dent to the soft plastic under the rear bumper for free. It's rare to find such a professional operation when it comes to car repairs. read more

My teenage son's expensive Bose headphones were stolen from a car that was dropped off at Chilton for repairs. The headphones were hidden under the passenger seat when the car was dropped off and were gone when the car was picked up. The manager at Chilton took zero responsibility for the theft and did not follow up after he said he would speak to staff and look around the shop. The only recourse we have is to write this review and to file a police report. read more

I am so fortunate that I found Chilton Auto Body Berkeley. I recently had my car repaired by a shop that failed to secure the plastic guard under the car, and it came off on the freeway, causing a major safety hazard and damage to my car. CARSTAR works with my insurance and were convenient, but they didn't have many reviews so I was apprehensive. But I called anyway to get a sense of the shop because I needed to fix my car ASAP--the previous shop had kept the car for close to 3 weeks, which was 2 weeks beyond what they had originally told me--and I needed to be able to use my car. Ronsendo was professional and easy to work with right from the start. He communicated clearly and quickly, was thoughtful and prompt in our correspondence, and explained the issue and the process thoroughly. I took my car in, as scheduled, and the repair was done on time (early, in fact). Rosendo explained what he had found. I got the clear sense that the technicians at the shop know what they are doing and take pride in their work, and really care about their customers. Rosendo went out of his way to not just complete the work but to do it carefully. When I got back, my car was cleaner than it had been in years. The shop had also dusted inside the car, wiping away debris that the previous shop had left on my car. They cleaned my tires too. Everything was so noticeably done with care that, even beyond professionalism, I felt like I had been treated really well, by people who care about doing their job well, pay attention to detail, and have pride in their work. My insurance sent me here after my Subaru car got hit on the freeway. They took a month before even starting work bc they didn't get approval from insurance to start work. Both the shop and insurance blamed the other for not getting in touch. Then when I got my car back another 4 weeks later (!!), there were SO many issues. - sideview mirror that wasn't even replaced was scraped, dirty, had glue on it, and the chrome was all messed up, as if they swapped for a shittier one - they replaced a lot of side panels that they didn't need to, driving up cost and time for insurance - my battery was totally dead and couldn't hold a charge anymore - doors didn't lock on one side - Windshield leaked - wrong roofrack rail used - loose and clicking parts all over bc they didn't properly replace thing with new bolts and clips to keep things snug - car made a horrible grinding sound when I turned bc they didn't correctly fix the axel and suspension Basically a total mess. I had to take it back there, and all they ended up doing was replace the battery which took 2 more weeks!! Had to take to another shop after that was better, and fight with insurance to get everything fixed properly. Collision happened in November and now I'm April I only just got my car back finally in good condition. These guys are sloppy and apparently incompetent. (The woman who works in the office is nice at least, but she wasn't helpful when I mentioned all these issues.) Also basically committing insurance fraud. Don't go here unless you need some basic ass work done slowly. read more

This shop, and particularly Erik, were awesome to my husband and me. After a fender bender, Chilton was recommended by State Farm as one of our local options to work with. We called and were happy to find they could take our car in for an assessment right away (other shops had a wait time of days to weeks to do an assessment and begin the work). The work was done quickly and with very high quality. They answered all our questions and made every step of the process painless, including providing transportation to and from the shop for us. Backing out of our garage, I accidently hit the side and damaged the L front bumper of my Tesla Y. It looked like the bumper might be able to be pushed back in place, but I was not sure. I made an appointment with Chilton Auto Body. The service rep was excellent. He let us know that to replace the bumper would be expensive and suggested that we look for a "non-insurance" body shop that may be willing to reattach the damaged bumper. While my wife (we are both in our 80s) and I were not excited about having to look for other body shops we understood. Just as we were ready to leave, the service rep and one other mechanic came over and began to reposition the bumper. They spent about 20min and were able to reposition the bumper. We were so pleased with the service and the professional manner of the company, not to mention saving lots of money. I should also mention that the body shop was clean and well organized. I looked at some of the cars Chilton were repairing and the work was first rate. Based on this experience, I would not hesitate to use Chilton if I needed auto body work and would recommend Chilton Auto Body without hesitation. read more
