Performance auto body was very transparent with the work that needed to be done and how long it would take and also provided calls to me to keep us updated on the progress. This is such a wonderful family owned / operated business! In 2017 we took our 2001 Toyota Avalon to them when our insurance company "totaled" it based on estimated cost of repairs. Alphonso or one of his guys did some work to make it drivable - and to protect it from rust... and we paid insurance company the salvage value. SUPERB VALUE! Still looking okay with no rust after 8+ more years. Today we took our 2019 car which had damage to passenger side to get an opinion on what could be done for a "REASONABLE" price after getting 2 estimates for over $4,000 to "fix it correctly / completely." Alphonso used his magic while we were there for the estimate - and we drove away with door opening issue fixed! QUALITY Craftsmanship! Our neighbors can't even see the damage - until you point out specific gap between door and front panel. I can't even conceive of going to the "insurance recommended" places anymore. Getting car damage is like getting your brain bruised--it hurts. A lot. And you keep seeing the damage so your injury stays. Severely scratched up my door playin' it too loose near the river. Got one estimate that made it worse--you want HOW MUCH to do this? Drove away, pulled over and searched for a place to get estimate number 2. Brought me here. They looked it over and devised what sounded like a good paint touch-up plan at a VERY REASONABLE RATE and they could do it immediately. Um, here's my keys. 2 hours later--I walked up to get the car and saw the work and from a distance it looked good as new! Sure, if you get your nose inches away you can see the repair but so very satisfied with the work and the service and just maybe the "vibe" of this place. They will see me and my car again. I can't say enough about Alfonso, Angelica, and the team at Performance Auto Body. This review may get a bit lengthy but the level of detail in the work done by Performance Auto Body deserves nothing less. Last year, 4 Wheel Parts (in Oakland) introduced me to Alfonso after fixing up and installing a number of upgrades on my 95 Jeep Wrangler. At that time, my Jeep was spray can black and needed to be cleaned up a bit. Performance Auto took the time to work with me - preparing numerous samples of the color ideas I had and exploring the paint options for the Jeep overhaul. After deciding on the color scheme, I purchased some Genright parts and Alfonso happily amended the paint schedule to include the painting and installation of; a new bumper, tube fenders and flares, rocker guards, corner guards, and tire carrier. The labor cost alone for this installation is easily in the thousands of dollars and by bundling it into the paint job, it saved me a ton of money, while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the paint job envisioned. Alfonso worked with Dave, Pete, and even Brian (the 4 Wheel Parts studs) to organize delivery of the parts and get to work. I work overseas so as the job progressed, Angelica sent me pictures to keep me updated. If there was any issue with billing or costs she reached out to me and always kept me in the loop. I couldn't have been more satisfied with the way I was kept informed being half way around the world. Sounds like a happy ending to the story, right? Well readers, if you're a jeep owner, you know that when you start stripping down an older Jeep, you're bound to find a problem. Alfonso came across a broken stud on the exhaust manifold near the firewall and contacted me about it. It's a tricky job to extract and if you get it wrong, you can bleed money. Alfonso quickly organized a mechanic to remove the broken stud for a few hundred bucks with no issues. Today, my Jeep's exterior and undercarriage is painted and interior Rhino lined. It looks amazing and runs solid. I'm not going to say it was a cheap paint job because it wasn't. Performance Auto Body's price is highly competitive (if not better) with other shops out there but the goal was not to be cheap. It was to do an awesome paint job that will last and I'm confident that it will. Add to it the quality and price of additional work that was done without me having to stress over. If you have a paint job or repair that needs to be done, do yourself a favor and let Alfonso and his team take care of you. You won't be disappointed. read more

What a pleasant surprise to find this auto body shop. I was recommended to Performance Auto Body by the guys that fix my Jaguar XK, also in Oakland (Continental Imports, INCREDIBLE service and quality, rates half that of my dealership) SInce I trust my guys at Continental completely (JC and Carlos) I went to have my Jag's rear end damage fixed by Performance. I told them that I was paying out of pocket and after sending them photos of my car's damage, the estimate I got back was VERY reasonable. i assume a larger auto body shop would have charged me 1.5x to 2x more.. After dropping my car off, I was given a ride to BART and when picking up, they picked me up at BART, very nice! Besides the great rate and service, the quality was perfect. They matched my paint perfectly, everything looked exactly as when new. The car was washed and Alphonso, the owner, asked me that if I didn't mind waiting a bit, he would go around and touch up my entire car, every little flaw! He spent an extra 45 minutes of so, free of charge, making my car look better than I have seen it in years. Finally, since it was now after 5pm, when the shop closed, Alphonso finished up, shook my hand and was already in his friend's car, off for his Friday evening, when he happened to glance underneath the front end my car and saw another scratch. He stops his friend from driving off, gets out yelling that he missed something, he got his touchup tools and took care of that flaw too! Where do you ever find someone with that sort of devotion and dedication to a job well done? I will be bringing my cars here from now on. read more

Alfonso you are my hero!!! I came in needing a MAJOR job done. I was rear ended, and it totally defaced , or should I say, debutted my IS 250. My poor car was in such bad shape that it made me almost cry seeing the looks of it. Performance auto had patience with me while the insurance was getting handled. They didn't call me pestering me to pay the deductible first. THANK GOD because my deductible is a whopping 1k! Yes, I know WTFFF right??? :D It took 2 weeks for my car to get finished. And I almost hugged Alfonso when I got it back. Angela in the front helped me during the whole process and she too was very courteous! This IS where you want to go. Alphonso and Angelica are personable and professional. We first met Alphonso over 20 years ago, when my mom got her car rear-ended in 1996. It had complex "pearl glow" three-layer paint, and he matched it and made it perfect. Then my brother bought a car with bubbled paint on its hood. Alphonso didn't just fix it; he polished the entire car so well you would have thought it was new. So when my own car needed a bumper re-attached and painted, I decided to go there. They looked at my car right away (you don't make appointments; you just "walk [drive]" in). He gave me a reasonable quote, and fixed it a few days later. It took one of his team about five good minutes to color match my paint, when it all looked the same to me. They ordered my new bumper before I brought my car in, so they could paint it separately. That meant I only had to bring in my car for one day in order for it to get the work done. When his team was finished, my car not only had a fancy new bumper, but its scratches in all the other parts of the car had been buffed out and then polished. There were a few scratches I had assumed would never come out, but his team miraculously fixed them. The only thing good to know is that the approach to the shop is a little tricky. It's in the middle of the block, but there are extensions to the sidewalk that go into the street every once in awhile, and they make it easy to miss it the first time. A second important thing to know is that they put all the cars in the shop every night, which is not always standard. It gives you peace of mind. All in all, I can't recommend Performance Auto Body Center enough. The true "center" of it is Alphonso and his daughter, who are very special people. They worked hard to get me the best price, did an excellent job, and were great at communicating throughout the entire process. One of the parts installed had a factory defect and ended up breaking about a month later. They very graciously took it out, asked the factory for a replacement part, and installed free of charge. I wanted to fix a fender dent and first took my car to a larger Oakland shop (it comes up on top when you Google Oakland auto body). I have a bright red 1997 Geo Metro. The trouble, I was told, was that my car had been repainted and they wouldn't be able to exactly match the color, unless it was a factory color. Instead, they referred me to Alfonso at Performance Auto Body. I drove straight there and had a very positive experience, from start to finish. Angelica and Alfonso were the most down-to-earth people I've ever met! Alfonso gave the nod of approval, and Angelica immediately set to the task of finding the replacement fender. It wasn't easy, but she succeeded. That was on a Friday, the part arrived on Monday, I took my car in on Wednesday, and picked it up on Friday! The color match was top-notch!! It was a beautiful job, and I'm very happy. When I picked up the car, Angelica told me that the first parts shipper called back and said the fender wasn't in good condition (kudos to them too), so she had to search again. She found one that was actually lower in price, so she took off $50 from the original estimate! If you want efficiency, honesty, and masterful work, Performance Auto Body Center is THE place! My passenger door gotten seriously bent up when a car drove into it, a moment after I opened it to step out. The hinge connecting the door to the frame also broke.I got a few repair estimates, all around $2500. Then Performance Auto Body offered to repair it for $1540 so I agreed. Normally they don't just paint the door. They also mix the new paint onto the fender and back door. But I didn't want to pay for that. I said I'd take my chances. The rep gave me realistic expectations upfront, explaining that red is a hard color to match, so the door might not be exactly the same color. However, he did a great job. The color is almost perfect - close enough that nobody but me will know the difference. He even did some extra cleanup to the car and didn't charge me for it. This is the third time I've used Performance Auto Body. The first two times were with my old car to fix up things on my own. During those times, knowing that it would be out of pocket, they trimmed things down to be more affordable, but still made the car look like new. This is a family owned business that clearly prides itself in excellent customer service. My partner brought her Lexus in for an estimate to replace her tail light which had mysteriously gotten broken. They quoted her half of what other shops quoted, and did the work in less than an hour. Starting with my first call for an appointment, I had an excellent experience here with my Mazda 5. Angelica and Alfonso were quick to schedule an appointment, clear and open about the different repair options, very reasonable on price, and absolutely on schedule in getting the work done with high quality. Doesn't get any better than this! I brought in my wife's 2004 Jetta (180k miles and running strong!) for a front fender/door repair. Given the value of the car, it didn't make financial sense to put too much money into the car, especially for cosmetic reasons. Alphonso (owner) understood the situation, and instead of replacing the body parts, he did a great job of banging out and touching up the existing fender/body. His team did as good a job as any could have of making the car look acceptable given the situation. Also (and for no additional charge), he adjusted one of the passenger doors, polished the headlight covers and touched up the entire car. What a difference! All the work was completed in one day. FYI - Performance Auto was referred to me by Steve at nearby Benson Tire & Auto Service (2101 Park Blvd, Oakland), another great shop. Steve also referred me to Don (owner) over at Express Auto Clinic (3810 Broadway, Oakland) for replacement of the timing belt on my other car. This place is great. I don't have collision insurance and got a ridiculous quote from another autobody shop for the work that needed to be done on my car. I took my car to Performance Auto and asked if they could replace the headlight so that my car could at least be driveable without getting pulled over by the police for a busted headlight. Angelica immediately began assessing my car, and then called around to find a headlamp within reasonable rates. She gave me a quote. I brought it back in the next morning, and she called me within three hours to say that the job had been completed. They charged me what they quoted me the day before, so it was nice to not get any last minute surprises at the cash register. Plus, her father (Alfonso) not only replaced the headlamp, but he went above and beyond to pull the busted frame back into shape, which is a lot of work. He also touched up a tiny bit of the hood to avoid rusting in the future. AND - my hood is now back in working order. All for a very reasonable price. But the thing that I appreciate the most about Performance Auto is the friendliness and professionalism of the place. Angelica is sweet and smart, much like Alfonso.
