Will women get overpriced here? Yes. I came in the shop a couple of months ago for a repair and was charged ~800. This week my husband came in the shop for the exact same repair, and was quoted ~600. Interesting. When he came to pick it up after the repair, he walked in on the office woman talking to the male owner about how they overcharged me the first time. The repair was good both times, but don't waste your money here. I won't get that extra ~200 back, but the mental image of the lady jumping out of her skin with fright as my husband caught her admitting to the overcharge is priceless. The receptionists got me in the same morning, and was very friendly. Amazing service by very capable mechanics. My splash guard under my car had caught on something on the freeway and was dragging, which was very concerning and needed immediate fixing (in my opinion). I showed up last minute as they had just closed and the mechanic onsite could tell I was stressed and was very willing to help, even after hours. I've always been one of those guys that gets dragged along to body shops, mechanics and car dealers when my female friends have issues. After a few decades of that -- and dealing with all the normal car issues of my own -- you get a pretty good feel for cons and ripoffs. So let's start with this: Lame name and all, Dreams is the best (in talent and integrity) body shop I've ever dealt with ... and I can't begin to count how many body shops that includes, from coast to coast, over the past 30 years. A few months earlier, I had been directed by my insurance company, based on my location, toward their "preferred" body shop in Oakland -- a perfectly competent, ultra-sterile shop in Oakland where you could have eaten off the floor of the garage and eight coiffed employees smiled and shook your hand when you came in to pick up your keys -- and then sent you a 12-page questionnaire to ask how awesome they were. But Jesus H. Christ -- they came up with premium charges for everything, including parts that I knew couldn't have possibly been damaged in a 10 m.p.h. collision. Yeah, the insurance company was picking up the tab, but I knew that was going to end up on my premium sooner or later (it was sooner). So three months later, when some clown literally backed over the top of my hood on hillside terrain on a hiking trip, my insurance company recommended the same place. I told them 'no way.' And then I told them to send their adjuster to Dreams Autowork, the place that my trusted mechanic had recommended. I admit that I felt a little bit out of my element when I walked in and heard Kevin, the owner, raising hell with one of his suppliers in Chinese over the phone. But I trusted the referral, and ... Wow. The results were spectacular. Kevin connected with the database for my insurance company, submitted pictures and ordered all the parts before I even left the shop. The next day, my insurance company had approved all the fixes. I was really sweating the paint job on my uniquely colored SUV -- which was no longer in production -- but the Dreams Team (ha!) nailed it -- an absolutely perfect, assembly-line grade paint job. And the whole thing came in under budget -- and spectacularly under budget compared to the ripoff job of the pristine Oakland shop, which had charged my insurance company considerably more for significantly lesser damages three months earlier. Moreover, when I asked the Oakland place for the damaged parts, they couldn't produce them. At Dreams, Kevin took me to a pile in the back and pulled out my hood, which he let me hold and examine. Within a few months, I'd returned to Kevin's shop three times. My girlfriend backed her brand-new Hyundai into a post -- those things don't have bumpers, and her quarter-panel was thrashed. It was a holiday weekend; by the time her neighborhood shop on the Peninsula had given her a quote and lined up a post-holiday appointment, Kevin had her car fixed -- well under the budget her shop on the Peninsula had quoted. When she had a similar accident a month later (she's beautiful inside and out, but not a great driver) and wisely chose to make the repair without her insurance company's involvement, Kevin gave us an extraordinarily generous deal. And he did so again a few months later, when my car was vandalized and I didn't want to involve the insurance company. All in all: BEST-EVER BODY SHOP. read more

It was lunch time and they asked if I could come back in 15 minutes. I can drive to a number iif other body shops in Alameda or Oakland in that time. So I did just that. 'Twas a nightmarish day before the fourth of July, I had one hour to get to work and a severely damaged front wheel, a completely destroyed tire from hitting garbage/cement on the hwy. Two neighboring repair shops refused service because they'd rather close early. Panic stricken, I walked into Dreams Autowork. They were swamped! I nervously explained the situation. The manager, Kevin, expressed they didn't specialize in wheels, as they're a body repair shop, but agreed to look at it anyway right then and there. Within minutes they switched my spare with one of the rear tires to ensure a safer commute. We took a quick spin around the block to assured the alignment wasn't ruined. Kinda hard to understand sometimes but I highly recommend their work. I never write reviews on yelp unless I have something good to say (I don't waste my time writing negative or so-so reviews). I've known Kevin for maybe 4 years now. He's worked on my old E30 BMW, my gf's Infiniti i35, and my tuned Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I used to go to this shop back when Joby was in charge 4+ years ago, but ever since Kevin took over, the service has gotten better (and I noticed that with the yelp reviews). I feel like Kevin focuses much more on detail, and he cares more about the work being done. I keep going back to Dream Auto, and each and every time, they provide fantastic service! If they don't think they can do it, they're straight up and tell you where else to go. I've gotten A LOT of work done at this shop and I've saved thousands by coming here (they charge much less than dealerships or other auto shops). Out of the 20 times I've been here, only one time was I dissatisfied, and they rectified the situation free of charge. I would highly recommend this place, especially if finances are an issue, and you want high quality service! read more

Heard a scratching sound under the car and found that a piece of the bottom covering had went loose. Came to Deam Autoworks to have a look. After waiting for about 15 minutes for them the staff to free up, they lifted up the car and remove the covering piece that was falling out. No charge and safe me the pain of crawling under the car. Would definitely come back here in the future. Hint: some of the staff are busy and may not speak fluent English, suggest you go into the office and speak with the owner. May have to wait a bit as the staff cannot drop everything and service you. I waited for 15 minutes but it was worth the wait. read more

You have to hunt him down if you want to find out what's wrong with your car because he never calls back when he says he will, then you have to keep calling to find out it's going to be one more day...one more day...he still hasn't ordered the part, he forgot you existed, he forgot that was your broke-down car sitting there in his garage, etc. We took our car there twice, both times he had it for almost a week, and both times we had to take it back because it wasn't fixed [the second time we went to another mechanic]. read more

Kevin did a great job on my 2004 Thunderbird. The car is black, so it couldn't have been easy buffing out the scratches and swirl marks. On the panels that were repainted, the match was perfect, in both color and texture. It was a pleasure to take the car there, and a delight to receive it when done in a condition that didn't require much more work to completely satisfy me. (There were two small spots that were still dull and needed more polishing. Kevin did it while I waited.) He's got another loyal customer. He also did a great job on our 2014 Prius, when someone scraped the rear bumper cover as they pulled out of a parking place. (Did they leave a note? Oh, no, not them!) This place is terrific. Fast, honest and friendly. My drivers side window was no longer working and I first brought the problem to Goodyear and the dealership. They both quoted me what I thought were very high prices simply to inspect the car but suspected they didn't have the part, which would take a week to arrive and then I'd have to pay for parts and labor on top of everything. I was 400 miles away from home helping my sister move from Orange county to Alameda when I realized my front bumper appeared to be coming off. I took my car in and Kevin explained that the clips securing the bumper had broken due to everyday wear and tear (driveways, curbs, etc), bolted it down and had me on my way in a matter of minutes.
