*****DO NOT PURCHASE A CAR FROM THIS PLACE***** I originally gave Albany Subaru 5-star after my purchase of my 2022 Subaru Ascent. However, a month into having the car, I had a nail in my tire (which I am liable for) and went to three different shops to get quotes for a tire replacement. ALL three shops notified me that the ALL the tires needed to be changed because all four tires were worn out and unsafe and that the dealership should have never sold it to me in that condition. Note: I had a paperwork from all three shops indicating all this. I called Albany of Subaru and got the run around and even got hung up on and finally requested the GM and they scheduled me an appointment. At the appointment, they denied covering ALL four tires. So I requested a paperwork that stated they would cover it so that I can file a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repairs and the Better Business Bureau. Finally they were able to cover all four tires BUT I still had to pay $140 for the alignment. NOW! My husbands outback car is having issues, which was purchased two weeks after mine. read more

Albany Subaru will do everything in their power to make your life harder. Avoid this place at all costs. You have been warned. My goal was just to come in for a test drive at this location for a $75 Visa gift card test drive voucher with my boyfriend because I had an car offer at another, further Subaru dealership. I came to this location because it was the closest one. The cars themselves are amazing. No complaints there. The salesperson I worked with is Ashur and he was very unamused and detached during the test drive and when it came time to talk about a sale. He sat us down and tried to oversell us products that I continuously declined. A ceramic coating package, add-ons like door guards and splash guards, extended warranty packages----all that I declined. No matter how many times I politely declined, he just stared at me like he didn't hear me at all. Even one time he said one of the packages just couldn't be removed. There was a lot of back and forth of nothing---I decided to ask how long the offer is good for and that we would be leaving to check out another dealership. He went to his "manager" and magically came back with all add-ons removed. Then came next was the finance person, Don. There was nothing I found that I liked about Don. He was very untrustworthy with his verbiage. He chatted me up about my credit score and gave me accolades; as if to make me feel good about myself. Sir, I know what my credit score is because I'm the one who's actually building that credit. Then he started talking about an exclusive offer that is only offered to "people like me". He said the offer was a lower APR % but extended my contract even longer than my 3 year contract with Chase. And would also throw in a 2 year extended warranty. I asked him if this changes how much I am paying for the car and he said no. I asked is this offer complimentary..He said no. Well, something isn't adding up. Sounds very fishy. I did the math on my phone and he was selling me a $9000 extended warranty plan.......I immediately declined and lost all respect for this dealership. Don did not feel bad at all for how he chooses to word his schemes. He does not care about buyers at all. The cherry on top is that they continuously ignored my request to redeem my boyfriend's and my Visa gift card test drive offer. We came in on December 27th. It took them until the week of February 6th to get it all resolved. They also didn't redeem a $75 gift card for me. They only gave me $50 gift card. My boyfriend was able to get his $75 gift card but that took 1.5 months to accomplish. Let that sink in. This dealership is a joke. The only good things about this place are the cars. I'm glad I had confidence in myself and the motivation to get a good deal. Most buyers might not. So do yourself a favor and do not go here. Just don't. It will be a waste of your time. I had a wonderful experience purchasing a vehicle from Albany Subaru. I found the car online and was contacted by Tsewang who scheduled an appt to meet. I met with him and looked at the car, test drove it but it was the first of 3 I was considering. I was going to leave to view the other vehicles before making a decision to purchase but as I was leaving I met Angel the GM. He simply introduced himself to me and asked if we could discuss the vehicle. I like to get straight to the point and not waste anyone's time so we discussed price and quickly agreed upon a final sales price. Paperwork went quickly with Don the Finance Manager likely because I already secured my financing with my credit union beforehand. A could of small things needed to be done to the vehicle before I was able to take it home and they provided a loaner car to me. My previous car had bene stolen and I was in a rental so this was a huge help. Tsewang was very polite and easy-going. I never felt pressured into buying the vehicle from my interactions with him or Angel. Would recommend this dealership to anyone seeking a Subaru or used vehicle. They are also under new management so perhaps the recent negative reviews are due to past poor management issues. Give them a try. read more

This place is a total scam and I feel like I should report them to BBB. I was interested in a used VW Taos and after few texts with a salesperson and confirming the price, which was around $17.9k (also posted on their website as well as on CarGuru), I decided to drive in heavy traffic for about 2 hours to go check it out. We test drove it and I decided to proceed and work on the offer. Then this guy tells me that because the dealership decided to add 3 accessories, like a film coating and some tracking service that allows you to see where the car is on a map, the price is not $17.9k, but more than $22k. I told him I don't care for these "add-ons" and shouldn't be paying for it, as no one asked for it, especially the tracking app, because VW has an app that does that. He confirmed with some manager that the price was indeed ~$23k How does a dealership get away with such illegal behavior - posting a price on their site and others and then casually bump it by over $4000! We traded our car in from a Crosstrek to an outback, and we were very excited about our purchase unfortunately, we were promised to functional keys for my husband and I to drive the car. We received one functional key and the second key was a valet key. Every time my husband tries to use that key it sets off an alarm and makes it look like we are stealing our own car in Oakland. This is not a good sign. We ask the business to give us the second key and they refused to come to a solution for us. They said the second key was broken and should not be setting off the alarm when we made an appointment to get it serviced. They said this key is supposed to do that. It is not made for every day use. We took it to service and they said to gain another key, it would be another four to $500. The manager refuses to talk to us via phone and prefers to only text us through a third person. This is very unprofessional and we have been dealing with this situation for about a month now we wish to be done with it. She refuses to help us because she said she gave us a deal on the car when originally we were promised two keys. This is unacceptable. However, after reviewing the contract later, I discovered that they had changed the term to 84 months without properly informing me. This is not a small detail -- it significantly changes the cost of the vehicle and my financial obligations. I went back to the dealership to speak with the manager, hoping for a solution. Instead of helping me, he showed no interest in resolving the issue. His response was that I could "get a lawyer" and that I could complain wherever I wanted because he already had my signature on the contract. I felt disrespected, manipulated, and taken advantage of. So, I called the WalnutCreek Dealership right from his office, and they confirmed that they would sell me the Forester for the original price, no "surcharge." So I walked out and drove straight out to WC and bought the car at the lower, original price within and hour!. I bought my first car on my own here. My credit wasn't great from student loan debt amongst other things and saw an ad for Albany Subaru and that they accept my income as credit instead of my credit score. I didn't think that happened at many places and as I was working full time and in recovery, I needed a car to get around. I was so excited! However...I put the down payment on the car and they never let me test drive it. I thought it was a little strange, but they claimed they had to make sure "the wheels were replaced for safety reasons". So I signed all the paperwork, put money down, and then I left.....without my car. A week and a half later, I finally get to pick it up. Within a week, THE CAR STARTS SPUTTERING AND I CAN BARELY DRIVE IT BACK. My salesman, Ryan was in the passengers seat and realized that was definitely not right and there was something very wrong. The clutch went out. Three days after dropping it off, they claimed nothing was wrong with it and asked me to pick it back up. For two months, I asked for any updates..nothing. Finally, after texting, calling, and emailing the managers of the store..I called corporate. FINALLY Aaron Pearson got back to me. They sent my car to Ford in Novato two almost 3 months later. Which voids the 3 month warranty. Not only did I not get any customer service, if I did, it was lies and when being caught in lies, they started to get mad at me. So much so I recieved my vehicle with BLACK MOLD GROWING IN THE TRUNK, MY TANK ON EMPTY, AND SPIDERWEBS ALL OVER IT. Still to this day, no one has made it right. I was lied to from the beginning. The purchase process was poor and false advertisement online for their cars. To begin, the finance manager Moner Afschar did not initially have the correct agreed upon price as the price of the vehicle. The vehicle price had nearly $1,000 added to the total price of the vehicle and I had to show him the agreed upon price I had with the sales associate (a paper he himself had). I'm sure he was hoping I was too tired to notice. He also added optional service and maintenance plans onto the contract when I told my sales advisor that I did not want any extra plans. He then told me that I can get approved for a better finance amount if I added a warranty to the contract. I agreed, but he also added other service plans to the contract. The price of both of these plans fluctuated and were more expensive from one contract to the other. For example, before I said I agreed to the lower finance percentage, the warranty price for the 100K mile, 5 year plan was around $1,900. Then I agreed to the lower finance price, and the price for the warranty went to over $3,500. I asked and he said it was his mistake and lowered the price, but then added another "optional" non Subaru interior protection plan to the contract stating that it was the only way to get the 100k mile, 5 year extended warranty for $1,900. I agreed, but then I also noticed that he added a service maintenance contract. He stated if I did not want it, I can cancel later for all the services, warranty, and protection plans. I agreed and signed the paperwork. Later, I noticed I did not live near any Subaru dealerships that accept the maintenance plan, so I arrived back to the dealership in person to cancel. When the Subaru extended warranty information arrived, the plan stated it was for 60K miles or 5 years, NOT 100K miles or 5 years, like Moner initially told me. Disappointed that I was lied to and manipulated to get the plans, I called to cancel the extended warranty and interior protection plan but was told that the interior protection plan was non-refundable. This also contradicts what Moner initially said. I tried multiple times to communicate to cancel my plans through email but I never got a response. After many phone calls, I was able to reach Moner, and he states he is "sorry" for lying to me. I do not trust that he properly cancelled the plans since he has been lying to me from the beginning. I have owned three Subarus and have been treated with respect and honesty during the other purchase processes. This has been the worst car purchase process I have had to deal with. The online experience can also be improved since the online advertised price does not match what the dealership states the car is worth. For example, the Forester I purchased is stated to be worth ~$45,000 online. But, when at the dealership, they add on a market adjustment and other non-Subaru genuine products onto the car to inflate the price to over $55,000. This is false advertisement. Fio was my sales associate and she did a good job. I also do not have any issues with their service department. I have had good service from them and they have taken good care of my past Subarus. read more

Called to find out if I could get tires from the dealer and what it would cost to be installed. As soon as the call was answered I was put on hold, and then transferred to parts. The person was very rushed and stressed needing to be done at 5:30 and saying the phone was ringing all day. I said I wanted something that I could drive in snow and ice. His recommendation was the Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS. I was comparing them against the Michelin Cross Climate 2. When I looked up the tire that they recommended for SNOW AND ICE, this is how the tire was described: This is an ultra-high-performance summer tire -- designed for sports cars, performance sedans/coupes, for warm/dry/wet conditions--not for snow or ice. Im not even sure if the price he quoted was for the tire or the tire and installation or what. I knew exactly what tire size I needed, so maybe I should have been transferred to service? read more

I had a disappointing experience at Albany Subaru that I feel compelled to share. I received an appraisal through Car Gurus, and shortly afterwards, I was contacted by five different people from the Albany Subaru dealership trying to get me to come in with my vehicle for sale (3 hours roundtrip). Before I made the trip, I asked each of them how close they would get to the Car Guru offer that was presented on behalf of their dealership, and I was repeatedly told, "We get very close to that offer." I wasn't expecting them to match it exactly, but when I arrived and went through the inspection process, I was offered nearly 40% less than the price I was led to believe I would receive. While I understand that offers can change, however, the issue wasn't the amount offered--it was the consistent misrepresentation of what I could expect. The fact that I was told repeatedly that they would be close to the original offer and then given a drastically lower amount was a complete waste of my time and only reflects poorly on the dealership. It's clear that their management is misrepresenting things to get customers in the door, making them unreliable and untrustworthy. Five stars for Ahmad, who singlehandedly saved this from being a one to two star review. He clearly cares about his job, which translates to caring about the customer. He went above and beyond in following up with me, discussions with his management, and actual honesty to repair the damage that had been done in my previous interactions with sales and management at this location. I also had an extremely positive experience with the finance director Don. He was efficient, professional, and friendly. He and Ahmad made it actually feel exciting to buy a new (used) car from them after I had weeks of frustration. On top of the advertised price, be prepared to pay $5,000 - $7,000 more for accessories. I read thoroughly across different websites, and all, including their own, said that the added accessories were optional. Not so. Some are pre-installed, and no matter how much you say you don't want it, they will not knock it off the price. I hope management reconsiders this twisted practice and a) remove the false advertisement of "optional" from vehicle listings and b) stop installing them before discussing with the customers first so that customers get to decide if they want and are prepared to pay for them. I came in after months of diligent research, careful selection of what make/model/year, and honest price comparisons (by mileage and year, factoring in certification, etc.). I felt like all this was ignored by the initial sales rep, who talked over me, didn't listen and remember to respond to what I expressed were my priorities and non-negotiables, and frankly wasted my time by bringing me and my dad to the table up to running my credit with a wildly false deal (I should have known, but he kept blustering he was going to make sure I walked out with the car I wanted) and misrepresentation about the added costs. It wasn't until he brought over his manager that I realized the truth about the added accessories. The manager frankly could have been a little more polite about it too, rather than telling me point blank that they needed to make money. It left me with a terrible impression, and I was ready to move onto the next dealership/car I had identified. In the following weeks, I kept getting texts and emails from different reps asking if I was still in the market. I replied with a thorough account of what had happened in my initial visit, my displeasure with the experience, and a summary of again the priorities and non-negotiables I told the first rep. The texts and emails remained the same, and did not respond to any of my concerns at all. In a couple of them, they even got my name wrong. One of the managers was snarky and told me she hoped the other dealership would honor the price I negotiated with them after I drove all the way out to them. Finally, I got a personal call from Ahmad - not a generic text, not an email. He listened to me carefully, told me he would call back in 20 minutes, and actually did. He asked if I could come in sometime the following day or week and we would actually work to get the car that suited me after he checked inventory, had discussions with his managers, etc. Without even having met me before, he was punctual to greet me when I came in, even remembered my partner's name and engaged him in discussion about the car. I was really impressed, and as you can see, he had a huge uphill battle. If you are in the market for a Subaru, Albany certainly seems to get good used ones in stock, but I strongly advise asking to work with Ahmad and Don to save yourself all the grief I went through. read more

Misleading Sales Tactic and Disrespectful Offer I'm writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent experience at Subaru of Albany regarding my 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness, which I am currently leasing. Last week, I received multiple calls and messages from the dealership -- including one directly from the General Manager -- asking if I was interested in selling my vehicle due to the high demand for used Subarus. After confirming that they were specifically interested in purchasing the vehicle, not trading it in, we scheduled an appointment for Sunday, 5/12. I drove 35 minutes to the dealership for this scheduled visit. Upon arrival, I was told to wait in the lobby. Shortly after, a representative named Ahamad approached and asked if I had been helped. I informed him of my appointment and he responded that the representative I was scheduled with was unavailable, but that he would assist me. When I explained that I was contacted to bring in my leased vehicle for purchase consideration, Ahamad asked whether I was looking to get out of the lease or trade in. Again, I clarified that I was responding to their inquiry -- they contacted me -- with no intention of trading in, only to explore the offer they were supposedly interested in making. He took my VIN and returned a few minutes later with an offer of $27,000 -- a figure well below what CarMax has offered me ($34,000) and far under the remaining lease amount of over $36,000. The offer made absolutely no financial sense and was not even close to covering the payoff. To say this was a waste of time would be an understatement. What was pitched to me as a serious purchase inquiry turned out to be an unprofessional bait-and-switch attempt, with no intention of making a competitive or respectful offer. If this was their best offer, it should have been disclosed before asking me to make a trip to the dealership. As someone who has purchased multiple vehicles from Subaru of Albany in the past, I'm extremely disappointed in the direction the service has taken. This experience was not only misleading but frankly disrespectful of my time and intelligence. If you cannot trust a car dealer to honor an advertised and promised $50 promotion, then I'm pretty sure you might think twice about buying a car from them. Here's the story: I received an (unsolicited) email inviting me to visit Albany Subaru and test drive a 2025 Crosstrek to receive a $50 Visa gift card. I was actually wanting to see the new colors, and looking to buy, so I went. I worked with a nice salesman who showed me a car that I really liked. Over the next several days, I tried unsuccessfully to have Albany Subaru match a price I'd received from another dealer. Ultimately, I purchased my 2025 Subaru from a dealer in the south bay. Weeks passed, and the promised $50 Visa card never materialized. I called and spoke to the salesman, who said he'd check on it, but he never called me back. Finally, I went in to speak to a manager about it, and he contacted someone else, who came and took down the information, saying "it was probably out of his hands," because the company that sends the offers isn't actually Albany Subaru. That sounded lame to me, like "Bait and Switch," which is illegal. Anyway...another week or two have passed, and no one has contacted me, so the time has come to Yelp about it. read more

Title: Misleading Promises & Unprofessional Experience -- Very Disappointed I bought my car from Subaru Albany on Labor Day 2024. Even though I live in Fremont, I drove all the way there because they had the exact color I wanted. The car itself has no issues at all -- I absolutely love my choice. But the experience with the dealership was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. During the purchase, the salesperson Ashur promised me a free scooter worth $500 as part of a promotional offer (Labor Day). It's been over a year, and I never received anything. I called many times, visited the dealership twice (a 1‑hour drive each way), and every time they repeated the same line: "You'll get it within the one‑year period." That year passed, and nothing ever came. When I went in person, the staff even asked me to show proof of the offer, but Ashur never provided any written confirmation. He avoided my calls, never followed up, and acted like the offer never existed. I've never seen such irresponsible customer handling. What makes it worse is that I wanted the scooter for my wife -- she doesn't drive, and I thought it would be a nice gift for her. She kept waiting for something that never arrived, and it was frustrating for both of us. On top of that, they added an extra service fee claiming it would reduce my APR, but I still don't understand how that helped me at all. I took time before posting this review because I kept hoping they would honor their promise. They didn't. My husband and I went to three other dealerships and ultimately decided to purchase a new car (and trade in our old) at Albany Subaru based on their customer service and competitive offer. We worked with their sales representative Ryan, along with their new general manager Jason, and finance manager Gianella. I had a very positive experience with both the Sales and Service team. I had a punctured flat tire on my Toyota BZ4X and was driving along San Pablo Ave. when it happened. I notice that the Subaru dealer was still open around 7:30 in the evening and I pulled in to ask for some advise/help, Mirara from the corporate headquarters was so kind. She let me leave my car there overnight so that the next morning I could get it over to the service center for a new tire. When we arrived, Andrew received us from sales. We told him that we wanted to buy 2 cars and he attended us. We looked at the cars that we liked. We went to his office to talk about the prices and we reached an agreement with the prices of the car. Everything was fine so far, but when we went with the finance person. He made us sign some car documents and apparently this finance person added things with the car that we did not know or wanted to do but he only did it without consulting us if we wanted to grab the extra packages for the car. We signed if you know at that time that they were scamming us your name is money afschar of finance. Then a few days later when we wanted to do the paperwork for the payment it turns out that we owe 53,000 dollars for the car when we had only left that the total of the car was 41000 they were stealing more than 13,000 dollars for them when we went to re-calar the manager did not say that it is the bank tax and that was a lie because we had the bank that gave us the loan and they told us that we only owed them 41000 total but in the Subaru it says that we owe 54,000 dollars and apart we had been 72 of payment and then they raised us to 82 if they even warned us that they had increased us 12 more months and when we talked to the manager of the place he told us that he could not do anything to help us because we had signed a contract and he could not do anything to help us so I do not recommend this place at all they are liars who take advantage of working people and the only thing they do is lie about their prices read more

Their bait-and-switch tactics, blatant disregard for their promises, and lack of respect for customers make it clear they do not care about the people they're trying to sell to. I was upfront from the beginning that I was a price-sensitive buyer, shopping for the best out-the-door cost, and I made it clear I had alternate plans to purchase a vehicle elsewhere. Despite that, Albany Subaru wasted hours of my time and left me feeling deceived. Here's my full experience for anyone considering this dealership: I first visited Albany Subaru to test-drive a used 2021 Crosstrek Sport after scheduling an appointment. The car wasn't ready--no gas in the tank, and I waited 40 minutes before we could even begin. We even had to stop to fill up during the test drive. While I decided not to pursue that car a week later I shifted my focus to new 2024 Crosstrek Limited models. That's when Albany Subaru's team became very persistent. They repeatedly assured me they could beat any verified quote by $250. When I eventually found a verified quote of $33,421 from another dealership, their representative Tsewang said his sales manager (Daniel Cabrera) had approved beating that quote. He insisted I come in to get the deal done. Based on his assurances, I changed my plans, picked up my road bike from repairs en route (with no lights or helmet), and took a mix of Ubers and public transit to the dealership over an hour from home. I was prepared to make a purchase that night, especially since I had otherwise made plans to buy from another dealer the next day. When I arrived, Albany Subaru completely wasted my time. After a short test drive, I was subjected to a long, unnecessary presentation about the dealership's history and the "family" I'd supposedly be joining if I bought from them. It was over an hour of selling me on the dealership itself before they finally presented numbers. When they did, the offer was $9,000 higher than the verified quote I'd sent them earlier. On top of that, the APR they offered was over 10% higher than what other dealerships were quoting. Daniel Cabrera claimed there was less than $1,000 of room to negotiate--completely contradicting what Tsewang had told me earlier that day. The entire situation felt predatory, especially since they knew I was stranded with a bike and limited options for returning home. This ordeal wasted over four hours of my time, cost me over $50 in transportation, and caused me to miss out on better deals elsewhere. To make matters worse, the next day, someone from their team called to ask how the meeting went and why I didn't buy. When I shared my frustration, they promised to "make it right" and asked me to hold off on posting a review, assuring me that their general manager, Marie, would reach out to address the situation. I agreed, but no one ever followed up. Instead, their team repeatedly called and texted me in the following days--not to address the situation or fix their mistakes, but to try and sell me a car. We purchased a used car at Albany Subaru. Ahmad was our sales person and he was very helpful. We enjoyed working with him. Our rating would be higher if we were just rating Ahmad. However, we had an unsatisfactory experience with the finance person, Monir Afschar. On the DMV Report of Sale form, he put in a different (higher) number than what we had agreed to for our sales price. After we objected (repeatedly), he changed it to the right amount. We were paying cash and not financing anything, however despite our repeated objections, he put the total cost of the car in the "Amount Financed" section on the Sales contract form. I wrote on the form that we were NOT financing and when I asked for a copy, he gave me a copy that did not include my notation. When I asked for a copy of the Buyer's Guide (with warranty info), he would not give me a copy. He said I could take a photo of it. The form specifically says "I hereby acknowledge receipt of the Buyers Guide at the closing of this sale". I signed underneath, and at the close of the sale he said he couldn't give me a copy. When I asked why, he said that's just the way it is. Our dealings with Monir made us feel very mistrustful of our experience and of this dealer. I assume Monir was doing what he's been directed to do by the dealer. I If I was rating just our experience with him, I would give the lowest rating. read more
