I had a very baffling experience at this smog station and will not be returning. I brought my 2006 Honda Accord in for a smog inspection. The vehicle passed the emissions portion of the test, but the technician stated there was a problem with the catalytic converter because he could not find a part number on it. What made the situation especially confusing is that this is the same catalytic converter that was installed when my vehicle successfully passed a California smog inspection two years ago. No changes have been made to the catalytic converter since then. The catalytic converter had been replaced after it was stolen several years ago, and I already had referee documentation related to the replacement. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the referee letter with me on the day of the inspection. I was not clearly informed that I needed to provide this letter or that I would be charged an additional fee if I returned with it. When I came back the next day with the referee letter, the original technician was not there. I tried to explain the situation, and it seemed the employee understood what had happened during my previous visit. However, instead of simply reviewing the documentation and the prior test results, he performed another test and charged me an additional $30 plus certification fee. I do care about the extra $30 because I believe it could have been avoided if they had accepted the referee letter and the prior test results. I left feeling that the additional charge was unnecessary and unfair. Because of this experience, I will not be returning and will take my business elsewhere. read more

Went in Saturday June 6th, 2026 for a smog check. Got there at 8:30 AM when it opened, but the garage was still closed. Waited alongside three other people for 15 minutes before an employee arrived to open shop. Once open, I filled out a form regarding my car's info and waited in a nice outdoor patio area while I waited for my car to be serviced. There was only one employee working so service was as fast as you'd expect. The smog test itself was quick and I was out of there by 10 AM (I was third in line). Then, Kevin, the smog repairman at 7 Day a Week Smog in Berkeley, came to my rescue. Kevin gave me extra tips on how to drive my car around to prepare for coming in for a second smog test. Then for an extra fee, he personally drove my Volvo on a "special" test run drive, & my car miraculously passed the second smog test. In order for Kevin to take your car on a "special" test run drive, you need to arrange to take your car on a day when their are two technicians on duty. I found a Groupon deal on smog check for the shop, and I called the shop to confirm that I can use the Groupon for my Porsche 911. The shop said I can use the Groupon but there will be no free retest with the Groupon. Thinking that it should not be a problem with a relatively new car, I brought the car to the shop and was surprised when it wouldn't pass. I was told that some engine monitors (EGR/VVT) needs to be ready to initiate a smog test. I indicated that my car is a weekend car and not driven often, so they told me to put some more miles on it to complete a drive cycle. I drove around that afternoon and brought it back the same day for retest. They scanned the ECU this time to check for EGR readiness before testing, and told me that it still was not ready, and did not charged me, which I appreciated very much. I drove the car around for few more days and brought it back to the shop and was glad the car passed smog this time. From this experience I found the technicians were professional, honest and mostly friendly. PROS: The smog test itself was quick and straightforward. The guys providing the smog test service, itself, were extremely friendly. It cost more to smog an older car like I had FYI (pre-2000). They are open on Sundays. CONS: After the car didn't pass the test the test first try, their mechanic was needed to see what the issue was. He wasn't there that day so I took it someplace else. When I took it to the other place, they told me the car would likely pass if I drove it on the freeway because the car hadn't been driven much for a while. I drove the car on the freeway for about an hour later on that week and brought it straight back to here. Their mechanic was still out, but when he came in he gave me a call and we set an appointment a week out when he was scheduled to come back from vacation. A week later I show up here at our schedule time, but the mechanic wasn't there. I asked the guy who was there if he could call or text him, but he didn't want to. I wound up taking my car someplace else where they do smog and repair, and luckily the car passed this time. I wound up paying for the complete smog test again at this other spot, but it was $30 cheaper. If you're pretty sure your car will pass the smog test, this place is fine. But if subsequent repairs are needed, it might not be worth the hassle. read more

The first mechanic, I'll call him Sourpuss because of his unpleasant demeanor, automatically put me behind several favored male customers who came later than I did. When he ran the smog test on my vehicle and it did not pass, he told me to drive it TEN MILES and come back---- TOTALLY WRONG ADVICE. He then sniped, "Bring the paperwork back or I will charge you again." So I drove it 100 miles and returned later in the week. I got a different mechanic who was NICE and HELPFUL. He hooked up a pre smog test gadget, ran it, and advised me my car was not yet ready and to drive it another 100 highway miles, so I did. The day I returned to get a retest unfortunately day I got the unpleasant unfair condescending mechanic. perhaps the owner? Who else could hold down a job with such a crappy demeanor? I asked him to check my car to see if it was ready. But, he refused to do as I asked. Instead, he hooked up the smog test, then floored the gas petal indefinitely. The results were, the car failed, by a tiny margin. I reiterated that I had asked for the pretest. This mechanic denied that a pretest existed--- even though I had JUST GOTTEN ONE FROM THIS PLACE a few days prior!!!!!!! What a way to do business!!! Probably the only way he can get business is by being open long hours and 7 days a week---- because if he does not like the way you or your car looks, he will try and screw you. Came one day to get my car smogged and an obese man turned me away saying that their Dino was down and to come back the next day. So I do just that, I came today and again the same guy just scoffs when he looks at my car and turns me away saying to come back when a smaller person is working because he won't work on a small car.
