They completed my smog within an hour and there were multiple vehicles in front of me. I was also a walk up customer without an appointment. I went in on a Wednesday morning at around 8:30 to get a (very) last minute smog check so I could complete my vehicle registration. There was 1 car ahead of me so I needed to wait a little, but they were all done within 20-25 minutes once it was my turn. My main goal was making it to work on time (9:30 LOL), so safe to say I was pleased with the quick service. They also offer a $20 discount if you mention that you were referred from Yelp which is heavily appreciated during these times! If I'm still living in the area by the time my next smog is due, I certainly will return read more

Such a good experience this Sunday at Smog Express. It was pretty busy when I arrived with it being one of the few smog places open on Sunday. Raj did a great job manning the whole place on his own - keeping an eye on who came in and keeping everyone in order of arrival, and moving through each car fast and efficiently. My car was challenging to connect to the computer, and he found a quick fix to get it connected and kept moving forward efficiently. He even let me know about an open recall on my power steering I didn't know about. Smog Express, give Raj a raise! read more

I appreciated the Prompt and professional service I received there today. There was someone ahead of me and I still felt like Only waited about 15 to get taken care of and out the door with a pass. I am a repeat customer and I will definitely be returning again. read more

I went here because I was here years ago and the tech was helpful and friendly. This time I'm waiting there around 15 min. Finally someone tells me "You might want to park outside because we have 4 cars ahead of you." No parking and bad customer service. I drove away one block away to another one. I was greeted immediately. They have parking and a waiting area. read more

This place is great. They don't take reservations, however, the wait was 15 minutes and I was given an estimate of the wait time. And the price is excellent. I'll be going back there as my go to smog check place. read more

Open on Sundays for a STAR smog check. Quick response and quote on Yelp. Speedy check with no wait. Clear and reasonable pricing. Thank you!

They told me my catalytic converter was aftermarket and they couldn't do my smoke. I had to go back to the reputable place and installed it, get the paperwork, and then they finally would do my smog check. other than this, they were very professional and nice and I would still go back. read more

Was able to get timely and efficient service requested even without an appointment. Great value!

Great service highly recommended fast and professional services I've been here multiple times and every time is been amazing

The service technician Felix assisted me on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was professional and polite in his service. Star smog regulations for a 1986 Mustang is much more involved and time consuming than newer vehicles. I understand there are many different car makes and motors and every technician can not know every stock component that came on each car. With that being said, Felix was open to me explaining about stock parts on my vehicle and double checked that they are smog legal. CA has made it extremely difficult for those of us with clean running older vehicles to complete smog checks. I appreciate Felix and Smog Express, for working with me, completing the smog and giving me the best price out of 5 other shops in the area. read more

I got a coupon in the mail, so I used it to smog my car. There were 2 people ahead of me. 15-20 min smog check. I was done in 1 hour on Wednesday morning. Chan was the only tech. He handled everything: front desk, phone calls, etc. By the time I was done, the place was packed. Only 3 parking spots on the shared parking lot with the Thai restaurant next door. Nice waiting area with drinks. read more

First time smogging my 2016 Kia Soul. Went to Smog Express on San Pablo in Richmond. Waited for one car in front of me. They were so fast and efficient you'd think you simply stopped at a traffic signal! I didn't even have time to text and send a message! I use their online $30. Off coupon. Again quick and easy! Thanks guys! You're the best! read more

Smog Express Richmond - Open 7 days a week! - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Richmond, California

When the DMV letter stating that my registration was due in 8 days and I needed a Smog Check, I reached out on Yelp to Smog Express Richmond at 6:46PM... my phone dinged a minute later with the owner's response. He offered a quote and logistics info. No appointment necessary. I asked, "How long does a smog check usually take?" Reply: "For your vehicle, 20 minutes." I was at the shop the following morning at 11:42AM & took a photo of the rates (see upload). It's a small parking lot of three spots, but there's street parking if needed. One customer was sitting in the waiting room (checking out his car through the office door to the one-car garage). Though there was no one at the desk, there was a small sign that indicated to take a seat and someone help shortly. The wait wasn't too long: within 5-10 minutes, the tech came in, greeted me, and handed me a small intake form. He checked out the previous customer while I was filling out the form. A minute later, he's got the completed form, my DMV paperwork, and car keys. I was able to do work in the waiting room with the radio playing in the background. The time went by quickly: the car passed smog, DMV paperwork was sent off, and the credit card transaction timestamp on my receipt said 12:03AM. "Steven" (inspector ID on the test results) honored the out-the-door quote I was told on Yelp. Given the owner's 20 minute claim, ease in transaction, and solid delivery on fundamental comforts (i.e., a place to sit with some light music playing), this was a great value. I have three other passenger vehicles and a small (Class B) RV at home that I would definitely bring to Smog Express Richmond in the future during the next special! read more

Good service at a reasonable price. If you're looking for affordable pricing, this is your place.

Only smog place that is open on Sunday late! Bought a car and wanted to smog it right away, it was Sunday at 3:30pm and NOTHING was open. Looked into here and they were open for another 1hour and half. Came here the lot was small and shared but regardless, the tech told me it would 20-25min wait but he can take me in for sure. Guy was super friendly regardless of having to SMOG 6 cars since I was there, never lost his patience and was on top of everything. Loved the waiting area where you can grab water, soda, or coffee. read more

I needed to get a smog and this place had good reviews so I checked them out. No appointment needed. I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon, around 1pm and it was empty. I rang the bell and someone immediately came out and asked what they could help me with. I said I needed a STAR smog for DMV purposes and he gave me my quote and told me it would take 10-15 minutes to get the test done. While he began to work, I checked in on Yelp and noticed a coupon for $20 off services. I asked if I could use it and he happily obliged. The service was quick and very friendly. I would definitely recommend it and will return when the need comes up again. Thank you for the wonderful service. read more

Found this place on Yelp and I called them and on the phone and asked if they were busy and he suggested that come in because they weren't too busy. When I got there there was a couple cars ahead of me but it didn't take too long and the price is affordable and they would even retest for free if need be which I didn't need to do because I past on the first. The person who did the service was very nice and I would probably come back again because it's near my house. read more

I came here, the fourth spot I went to in one day. It was great. I was grateful for Steve Chao. There was a line of people and Steve handled us very professionally. And even though there was a wait, I didn't have to stress about this because I felt taken care of. Meaning that he checked in, assured me of my place in line, and took care of the cars. I had a $20 check-in coupon and he honored it. I think I'll come back here because it was so easy and I was professionally taken care of. I would recommend that anyone go here. The fact that I spent hours at three other places in Richmond and got no service, says a lot. This spot came out on top and I'm grateful to them. read more

Came on Veterans Day on a Friday, they were open normal hours. Still there were two cars in front of me so it was about a 30 minute wait. The reviews are true though, the waiting room is nice. Spacious and some complimentary refreshments and reading material available. Definitely expect a wait and bring something to distract yourself with. By the time it was my turn, the smog test only took about 10 minutes. And yes they are Star certified. Friendly guy who runs the place and checks all the cars. And honors a Yelp check in for $20 off! read more

I went to Smog Express in Richmond today to get my 2013 Toyota Corolla smog checked so that I could register it. I received excellent service and it only took them 15 minutes to check my car. I did have to go after 4 other cars, but I was OK with that because I was told that when I called them to see if it was possible to get my car checked there. I'm OK with waiting and it's a good sign that it's so popular. I can see why because the person who works there was really friendly and knowledgeable and the price was reasonable. I appreciate the great service that I received there today! I highly recommend this business! read more

I got there before they opened so I was second in line. Everything went smooth. Note to others, make sure you mention the yelp discount when you check in. He seemed a bit irritated that I did not mention it until I was paying. I was not aware I was supposed to mention it upon check-in. read more
