Good coffee with no fuss; cool vibe. Definitely recommend if you like the taste of coffee not sugar.

Incredible coffee. I feel extremely in tune, like an old lover, with whoever roasts the beans. I don't know what magic you're using, but all I know is if I keep feeling this way I'll keep coming back for more. Wowzeroonies read more

The coffee isn't burnt. It's properly prepared. Smooth and creamy shots. The mocha isn't too sweet. It's darn near perfect.

The iced coffee was strong and had a nice roasted taste to it. The coffee shop was nice and clean. The staff person a young lady was very informative and almost got sick ..(not really) when I told her that I always go to Starbucks read more

Stopped here yesterday while visiting from California. My daughter ordered a hot chocolate and I asked the barista to recommend something hot and not too sweet (I favor flat whites etc). He suggested a Honey Latte. It was wonderful! I'd never consider putting honey and coffee together - but the drink worked! Thanks for the suggestion and looking forward to trying different recommendations on our next visit. read more

Best. Coffee. Ever. I discovered this coffee at Metropolitan Market and was excited to finally try it at the shop. Can't wait to return. read more

I don't know what it was, but I had THE BEST 12oz vanilla oat milk latte while visiting Valhalla. I was tempted to get another one. The shop is small and cozy and the cashiers/baristas seemed to know most of the folks coming in. Definite looking forward to coming back. It was my first time visiting and this is absolutely going to be my go to when I move down to Tacoma. read more

So 5-stars on the coffee. We buy a pound of Espresso roast every other week and make our espresso at home. The employees are always helpful and I'm a fan of supporting this local business because it is the best coffee I've ever tried. I actually miss it when we go on vacation. Now if you are just picking up a drink from the store you might need to pack your patience as it is very high quality, not-drive thru coffee quality, it does take a while to get your drinks made. I've been in the store during busier times to pick up my beans and the wait can be 15+ minutes if there are drinks ahead of your order. So it is very worth it, if you aren't in a hurry to get out the door. read more

I have been here a few times. One staff member was super awesome and made a really cute design... but there is one guy who was so rude to me when I asked for a chai latte. Snarky he said "this is a coffee house" ok... most, if not all coffee places I've been to serve chai. read more

Meh. Decent coffee. Looooooooong wait for it. There were three staff members working and for some reason, only one was preparing drinks. Customers sitting around waiting for their drinks to be ready. In the meantime, when an order for beans was handed out, the staff member would lean over the open customer cups that were lined up in wait. I was tempted to leave, with or without a refund, thinking about what could fall into my cup. There must be a better system that doesn't risk contamination of beverages. The end result wasn't worth the wait either. read more

Pretty decent coffee - nothing remarkable but decent. Barista was pretty unfriendly. I am not looking for ass kissing but a little banter would be nice when I am paying nearly 5.00 for a cup of joe. Store has a definite "dark hipster" vibe and they appear to be fairly open about their political stance on a few things...not my cup of tea....which is fine...it is their business and they can do that. Parking is on street parking - we had to circle the block a few times to find parking. read more

Staff is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. I'm a coffee snob. I try to patronize small business before chosing a chain. So when I passed by and there was parking in front... I figured it was meant to be. Cute little spot with some seating inside. Cool roaster. Staffs has an answer for all coffee related questions and they offer good suggestions. If you are a straight up coffee drinker, this is the spot. Strong flavor, no overwhelming sweeteners and great taste. I can't wait to come back. If it we're a little closer I'd be there daily. read more

Valhalla Coffee - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Tacoma, Washington

I have been trying to come here for some time now and I can say that I wasn't disappointed! Ordered an Iced Hazelnut Latte and the coffee itself had rich taste as they roast their own beans and by what I can see is fresh! Really cool interior and you can see their roasting machine. Had to wait a little bit longer than usual for the coffee but it was pretty busy. I'd recommend this place to a friend (: read more

Awesome staff and the best coffee, my go to in Tacoma. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait, and suck it up because it's worth it.

If you are looking for a change from the everyday cup of coffee then stop here. Great coffee and worth the wait. Love the sidewalk service.

Like drinking smooth chocolate. at a cafe. in Paris. Went to Valhalla while waiting for a restaurant to open up. Heard good things about this place so it was good timing both places were close to each other. The staff was very friendly and explained the different types of beans and provided solid recommendations. She suggested we try the Mocha so went with it while also getting a pound of their Viking Blend. Once we got the drinks, taking that first sip was like "Damn! Am I drinking coffee or whipped chocolate!?" It was that damned smooth. It reminded me of drinking cappuccino at a cafe when I lived in Germany or while visiting Paris. The coffee wasn't too hot or cold and was just right. My wife loved it so much (she's not a mocha fan) that she was trying to take my cup (I don't think so!). The staff was also kind enough to make my Mocha with Soy after I forgot to ask-and they didn't even charge me, even after offering to pay extra. Definitely coming back for the coffee and customer service! read more

Wow, their espresso blend roast is phenomenal! Ordered soy latte and pretty much chugged it down--it was that delicious! Their coffee is definitely my new favorite in T-Town and prefer it over Metronome. Their espresso blend is well rounded and has a hint of chocolate with soy milk. The roast is strong and dark yet not acidic and goes down smoothly. We were passing through on our way back to Seattle and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did because we discovered another gem. I was about to drive away but turned around to buy a bag of the espresso blend roast for pour over coffee at home. Had the pour over yesterday morning and it was delicious as anticipated! The roast has a natural hit of chocolate taste to it and it speaks all sorts of beautiful notes on my palate. This is definitely a new pour over favorite. I like it better than Zoka's espresso blend roast! I wish they open later at night because 7pm is a bit on the early side. Also, it a small space. Hopefully their customer base gets bigger and is able to expand their facility. One thing for sure, you had me at first sip and will continue to support your business and exceptional coffee! I told my friend who introduced me to this coffee shop that if I lived closer, I'd be drinking their lattes everyday! read more

We stopped by for a quick cup of joe. Bought the usual: 1 drip coffee and 1 double espresso. The coffee is on a lighter note and the espresso is bold with a slight sour after taste. Cheaper than most places as well. Under $5 for both. Street parking and limited seating. Definitely a place that's more of a pick up rather than a dine in. read more

One of the nicest coffee shops I have been to. The coffee was good, and they make designs in the coffee with the milk. Highly recommend.

7-11-2020 at approx 8:42am: My mocha tasted like hot water mixed in with a half packet of insta hot coco. I expect more from Valhalla. Especially when I waited about 10 min and 2 customer that ordered after me got their coffee first. Shame shame shame....I expect this from some drive thru franchisee fast food restaurant not Valhalla!!! read more

First timers for Valhalla Coffee on 6th and we are so happy we stopped in. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Everyone is greeted as they enter their door. The smell of freshly roasted coffee tempted us to change our plans and hang out here all day! Such a heavenly aroma. Our lattes were well prepared and delicious. Even though there was a small crowd waiting no one seemed to have to wait long for their coffee goodness. I finally got a chance to stop by this coffee shop on 6th ave. I know they serve Valhalla coffee at several restaurants in Tacoma. I could smell the fresh roasted coffee before even entering the little shop and the coffee definitely did not disappoint. I opted for a soy mocha and it was creamy and delicious! The coffee itself was very good. I'm so glad I didn't take the easy route and swing by Starbucks. I will most definitely a return! read more

Their coffee does not have that sour acidic after taste. Good coffee overall. We got a latte and an americano. We came at 10:20 AM on a Monday and didn't get our drink until 10:50 AM since there was only 2 people working. Wouldn't mind the wait normally but it was raining and we couldn't find any street parking in front of the place so we were pretty wet when we finally got our drinks since we had to wait outside. Wow. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I finally realized that while I was gettin coffee today. Some amazing stuff going on here. I love straight up coffee. Hot and black, and no I am not talking about some kinky website. This place is real down to earth. They are a roasting company tha still does retail. I really enjoy coming here. Very chill and smells soooo good. I just want to jump in the roaster with all those wonderful beans! read more

I generally only buy whole beans here, which have all been fantastic. On the rare occasion when I also need a cuppa (like when I enter the store and smell that delightful aroma), that has never disappointed either. A really great local coffee joint that doesn't put on airs, just sells great coffee at a fair price. read more

I'm not gonna make some overdone allusion to the Valhalla of myth. There isn't a need. I'm sure 100 people before me already did that. So instead I will just say that this place has got it going on, with a few things that just don't work for me. I will say I loved walking in and seeing the roaster right there. The service was just awesome and you could tell that this business cared about not only their "craft" but also about the customers that they welcomed by name as they came through the door. This reminded me of my favorite place in Reno. The cappuccino didn't speak to me as much as I would have liked. The milk was a bit too hot for my tastes. I did love that I could actually taste the coffee though it was robust and filled my palate. I was half tempted to order another and request a cooler temp...but I had another coffee place to try out. I can do 4 shots...but I cant do 6! The seating is built into the floor, so you can't easily cram extra people around a table, so if you go, don't go with more than one other friend. You wont be able to all sit together easily. Parking this weekday was easy and close and the line wasn't too bad. Not sure how it will be on the weekends. I read more

Haven't been in a long time but my first review was truth some years back. My experience back then was quite different. It's not as good as I made it out to be now that I've had a moment to stay. Downgrade a star Someone said they had a comfy couch to sit on...no..they do not. Very uncomfortable stools you can't move. If you have a bad back, you can't move them closer to the wall to lean so you are using your back to support yourself upright. The wifi was aweful. I had to say something since Verizon service in the area is horrible and the comcastwifi is just as poor. The staff reset the router which helped. So overall with other places to compare, this place is just so so. Its really closer to 3 stars. Coffee is still good though. I'm back on regular blend and not decaf. read more

I've been trying to get into this place for quite some time to see if all the hype is true and finally we had some extra time to stop in before the Jr. Daffodil parade!!! Walking in, I loved the whole small coffee shop vibe aka hipster! Miss places like this with all these new pop up drive thrus and such. Place smelled like heaven and loved all the personal touches that the place is decorated with. Had the best cup of joe I've had in decades here and must go again as I type this review!!! read more

I was excited to find "my coffee place" and frequent 4-5 days a week these past two months. Really great espresso and a loyal following. Customer service starts with often having a long line to order while standing in the doorway. The plastic hanging shield over the register prevents easy communication. The tall guy who occasionally works the front is nice. The cashier/order taker -Audra- is generally very irritable and short tempered. (Is she from Seattle??? She often gave off a Seattle-chill vibe every time I have made the point to drive across town to Valhalla.) However, yesterday she was especially rude. She raised her voice and made sneering remarks to me that embarrassed me in front of the other customers. Then as I stepped away, she became super syrupy sweet to the following customers in a loud exaggerated way knowing I could hear her. I know it is extremely hard to find people to come to work with covid 19. Plus I know keeping any low wage employee happy and willing to come to work is difficult right now. I just long for the days I could have made this place my favorite coffee place not only for their delicious coffee but for their welcoming, warm and friendly service. Valhalla is embodiment of Tacoma in a coffee shop. It's everything a Tacoma coffee shop should be. Nice employees, quirky, fun clean interior, and most importantly as perfect an espresso as there is. They even supply their beans to other top-tier coffee shops in the area including Corina. The internet here is fast and efficient--not the typical shit-tier internet speeds of most free wifi places. ***coffee snob review*** This is about as perfect a latte as I have yet to be served. Temperature is spot on perfect--not nuclear hot. The espresso is full bodied and roasty, fruity, round and complex without being bitter nor acrid. The balance of roasty without being bitter is practically perfect. Last but not least, the price of the coffees--completely reasonable. I'm used to paying well over $5 (after my standard $1 tip) in Seattle--and now evidently in downtown Tacoma...--but Valhalla's 12 oz latte was a completely reasonable $3.85. For example, head down 6th avenue to Metronome and you'll be paying Seattle prices. Valhalla gets my vote as best coffee shop in Tacoma. You'll get great espresso at a handful of places but Valhalla is the complete package. read more

Superb coffee. Great presentation on the their Cappuccinos. I chose the Dark Chocolate Cappuccino and it stood out as among the very best coffee tastings I've had. Service was fun & bubby. Not at all pretentious. Located randomly on a sometimes busy residential/commercial street. I definitely plan on stopping by again if I'm in the area!! Overall score: 4.25 / 5.0 read more

The Norse Gods will not chop off your head the moment you take a sip of this delightful and true brew of the gods - but you might be blown away from the depth and care Valhalla puts into its small batch coffee. A unassuming location on 6th Avenue - it is a place you have to seek out, as it doesn't stand out. Cozy interior, but you are welcomed by friendly staff and the permeating smell of rich, aromatic coffee smells literally baked into the essence of the building. This is defo my fave coffee joint in the 253. The staff are always super welcoming and they're coffee is great! Plus they generally have a good soundtrack backdrop that I appreciate. If you're in the mood for some strong coffee this is certainly worth hitting up-- they're 16oz drinks are all quads which will have you buzzing around like a lunatic in 3 mins flat. You can also buy they're bulk beans which are a joy to have at home. That said, you can't pull an espresso at home like they do here. I only wish they would open at 6 so I could hit this up on my way into work. Do yourself a favor and come here for your bean fix. #GoLocalOrGoHome read more

It's hard to write a bad review of a coffee place up here. Perhaps I'll have to get harder on my coffee standards when I'm visiting my brother. I did prefer Metronome's Ethiopian over this place's Ethiopian. However, cost and atmospheric differentials placed into the equation, we come up with a very even balance. This place offers a more pleasant experience with friendly staff and friendly customers. The seating was good and the service was great. The ability to explain the coffee everywhere I go here is fantastic. People sure know their stuff about the beans and roasts here. I wish I had had more time to sample more of their roasts and more of their espresso drinks. Next trip I hope I will. Please support your local coffee house, especially in Tacoma, Wa! They seem to go out of business so quickly but yet they are so good. I sincerely doubt this place has something to fear, but I do know that they do have good competition. read more
