Came here for lunch after spending the morning at valley stream park. The diner was fairly crowded, so I figured the food must be good, and I have to say everything we ordered was delicious. I decided to go with the french toast which was REALLY good (Jennifer M. is definitely right about that). Lots of cinnamon, fresh challah, what more can a girl ask for. My friend ordered a bowl of matzah bowl soup and bacon grilled cheese, she licked her plate clean. So the food was really good, no complaints in that department. I have to give 3 stars because our waiter was the CREEPIEST man I have ever met in my entire life. By creepy I mean the type of guy that would chop your body up and throw you in a dumpster. From the moment he approached our table, the first thought that came to mind was SERIAL KILLER. I think he said "hope you like the food ladies" a good 30 times throughout our meal. He would stand behind our table, and smile at us throughout the meal. Some of the memorable comments "You ladies look great today" "I love french toast, you and I order the same thing" "i hope everything tastes great for you girls" WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN??? This place is awesome! Food is good whether eating in or taking out. Quick service. Burgers are real not the frozen parties that most diners serve now a day. Breakfast meals are done right and they accommodate to what you want. I have NEVER had a problem EVER with the owner or the staff in over 40 years of going here. I went yesterday to order Buffalo Wings and French Fries and a Chocolate Chip Cookie , the food was terrible. The Buffalo Wings wasn't Buffalo wings they were overcooked Chicken pieces that were salty . It was like they pour a whole container of salty. The fries were undercooked, cold and soggy. I had to fry my fries in the pan to get it crispy. I should not have to do that. The blue cheese sauce which was in a cup, tasted like crap. The prices are high . It came out to be 20 dollars. I have a love-hate relationship with the Valbrook. I eat here regularly (once or twice a month), but only because it's very close to my house and I can walk there. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. First, the things I love: The burgers here are really good, made with quality meat and are always cooked the way you ask. There's nothing worse than ordering a medium-cooked burger and getting a cremated hockey-puck instead. Ordering a "Deluxe" burger gets you the burger, salad and tomatoes, 2 onion rings, fries, cole slaw and a few pickles for about $8. Not bad at all. The place is open late, though not 24 hours like it used to be. On the weekends they're open till around 2am and weekdays they close at midnight. The place is clean, including the bathrooms. The service is fast, and relatively courteous (to your face, anyway. I'll get into this later). Now, the things I hate: Random items on the menu are insanely overpriced. An order of 5 small mozzarella sticks is $10. How is it that an appetizer costs more than all of the breakfast and burger meals? That's how all of the appetizers are. The non-burger entrées are also inexplicably expensive. Salads are more than $15, wraps and hot sandwiches are all at least $15, simple hot dinner plates (pot roast, chicken parm, chicken francaise) are all $18+. Remember, this is Valley Stream, not Times Square! For that kind of money, I could get a lot better than diner grub. They give you free refills on regular coffee, but if you get decaf, you inexplicably only get two refills. Although you can pay with a credit card, you can't leave a tip for the waiter using your card. This is a MAJOR pain and probably causes the waiters to get stiffed on their tips pretty regularly. There have a been a few times that I've gone somewhere else to eat because I didn't have any cash on me and didn't feel like running to the ATM just so I could leave a tip. And now the thing that REALLY irks me about the place: If you come here anytime after 10pm, the staff starts to goof off and gets really rowdy and loud. The Spanish-speaking staff (which is almost all of them) mock their customers and each other using pretty foul and offensive language, assuming that no one understands them because dumb Long Islanders couldn't possibly speak Spanish, right?. They mostly don't mean any harm and are just bored, but it gets annoying, especially if you're trying to have a conversation or read while you eat. The managers of the place just let it happen and even join in sometimes, which makes complaining about the noise and/or racist/homophobic/sexist jokes pointless. I don't know about you, but I can think of a more pleasant soundtrack to eat to than a bunch of grown men screaming "maricón" across a restaurant. If all you want is a good burger or a quick breakfast, this place is fine; for anything else, you're better off going someplace else. read more

It's Saturday morning. Like 3:10 in the morning. Your ears are buzzing from the amped up music and your eyes are adjusting the the florescent lighting. Your stomach is growling as if there's a rabid dog in your belly. The only place to go to wind down a night of partying is a diner. The Val Brook is a good choice. They serve food fast and it's not greasy at all. The drawbacks are the price--overpriced for diner food--and the staff. No words can truly describe the excellent food, service and ambiance of this restaurant. I haven't had such a tasty meal since the '70s and '80s, when mom and pop eateries were in vogue. I expressed my sentiments to the co-owner of the establishment, who, at the time, was holding the door as I was exiting the restaurant. This establishment should receive 10 stars, due to its overall excellence. I will end by saying that this restaurant, which has been around for years, may be the best discovery of 2020. Let me just say the only thing good here is the turkey sausage which is two dollars added to your entire meal extra by the way. My friend and I went here and they gave us undercooked food. We asked for a fresh batch and all he did was fry the already fucked plate. And the problem with that is you will forget who ate what and they did. Very unprofessional. Even though the manager was very nice and didnt make us pay for the undercooked french toast, we still paid for what we ate. I had to pay 14.00 for orange juice,undercooked eggs, and turkey sausage. Now check this out, Mother's Day Breakfast, 8 of us including kids. One of the kids orders a short stack of pancakes and the waitress comes back and asks my wife if the kid cut into one of the pancakes. No she didn't. Oh good. She puts her hands in her plate and takes one of the pancakes back. I couldn't believe my eyes!!! Why would you take back a pancake unless you were going to give it to someone else. I still can't believe I'm typing this. Then I told the manager and HE DIDN"T EVEN CARE! Then I told the manager at the register and he didn't say anything. No money off the bill. Of all the diners I've reviewed, let me preface this by saying that for years it has always been one of the more expensive ones in the Nassau area. It never was the cheapest but when you account for the current economy and inflation and look at the prices now, they are astronomically high as many of the other yelp reviewers have noted. Valbrook is a nice looking diner with a decent interior that's at least a step up from the divey look of the nearby Lynbrook diner or the1980's-esque Concord. It's serviceable and I can't really knock it in any sort of way. Food is also a step up from some of the more mediocre diners here BUT it is nowhere near worth the prices you are paying. You can take a rock and cover it in solid gold paint to make it look valuable but at the end of the day, it's still a rock. That's the Valbrook diner in a nutshell. You'll get a decent meal but don't be expending 5 star quality here. Their specials are hardly specials either in terms of quantity and price. If the prices were about 1/3 less then they would be on par with the average diner around here and then I'd be willing to give them a 3 star 'A-Okay' rating, but because they are not fair to the customer I'm giving them only 2. You deserve better and you can do better. read more

It is my general rule of thumb not to review a local place that I visit often, becuase you never know who reads these things. But sweet mother Moses this place has been on a steady decline these past few months. I am speaking specifically about the lunch/brunch service. Every couple of weeks I buy a Turkey club, and my last visit left me disappointed enough to change the status of my next visit to "TBD". Meaning it just may have been my last. Turkey was dry, and there was too much of it. There was no mayo, mustard, or spread of any kind. My french fries were replaced with a terrible potato salad without my knowledge or request. Lastly, and most disturbingly, my coleslaw was wrapped in an excessive amount of tin foil. Apparently a cover for the container could not be found, so they thought this to be a suitable compromise. This diner is a very nice family diner run by an entire family, everyone is warm and friendly. My visits have always been positive, from the atmosphere along with the staff and food prices. All their dishes leave you with a smile, I am too happy to say this is my new family diner. I live three towns away I make the trip here because it's truly worth it. Valbrook is a pretty good diner. I had a TERRIBLE experience with their waitress Francine. If it wasn't for the fact that I come here so often, I'd probably never come back based off her service. I've been eating here for 20+ years (when I lived a little closer) and it used to be much better. It's a crap-shoot, for every good meal you get a bad experience. Don't know why since the same miserable owners have been around the entire time. Tonight I ordered a reuben, which is standard diner fare - I thought hard to screw up. I was wrong. I ordered it closed and maybe that was a mistake because I opened the sandwhich and one side had a ton of sauerkraut and one, yes 1 small piece of corned beef. In other words, half the sandwich was a sauerkraut sandwich. The 2 onion rings were cold, not warm, not hot - they were room temp at best. The soda (coke) was flat. One of us had the stuffed sole which he said was good (and a flat root beer) and one ordered pancakes which is impossible to get wrong. I didn't complain to the manager because I know from experience they could care less. The waitress was fine and the place was pretty crowded at 6:30 PM. It was a freezing cold night last Janauary, and me and bf had just arrived home from Jamaica, West Indies. Out flight had been delayed which pushed our 9pm arrival to 12:30am. So we get home from the airport which is about 10 mins from my boyfriends house. He just moved in ONE week prior, because a week before that he had just come home from being in Afghanistan fightin for the country. So there is no food in the house. The resort in Jamaica where we stayed really had terrible food. We were glad to be home in that aspect, but we were very hungry and it was 1am. What's open at 1am on a 4ft snow covered night? Valbrook diner. This is a typical Greek diner. I am reviewing it, and giving them ONE STAR because I ordered a tunafish sandwhich, and instead I recieved chicken salad. Just when I thought things could get better after a horrid day of traveling, my supposed to be delicious tuna melt and fries is CHICKEN!!! I specifically told the guy i don't eat meat. Of course I made a HUGE stink over it. They did absolutely nothing. No money off the bill, nothing "on the house". Me, I would have walked out with put paying a penny. 3.5 stars. Yelp really needs to add the half star option. This place is good for breakfast. Everything was tasty-- the pancakes are what bump this review from a solid 3 stars to 4. They are fluffy vanilla tasty pan-cakes with the emphasis on cake. They don't give real butter unless you ask, but the servers are gracious and accommodating. The fries were really good and waster highlight of my meal. Turkey was cooked med and a little dry. Their pickles were very salty and had a strong jar taste. Average diner with increasingly inching up prices. Their prices have been creeping up in the last couple of years, almost to that of a semi-fancy restaurant for some things. I have frequented this diner for about 15 years, but they are starting to cut corners now. Example: No bread with salads - just broken packs of semi-fresh crackers. No refills on fountain drinks. I know it is uncommon for diners to give free refills, but that trend is starting to subside and their competition right down the street gives free refills (which makes economic sense because it probably only costs 10-20 cents to fill a glass, yet they make $2.75 for every fountain drink sold...Because I don't order fountain drinks there so they lose about $2.30 from me not ordering.) Also, if you ask for a large water, they look at you like you have 10 heads. Service is okay, but it used to be much better. read more

Hands down the worst diner in the area, but for some reason whenever my friends and I were in the area here we were here. This place is sub par. I've had a couple dishes so he's the bad and the good: Bad: -DO NOT get anything with a salad/lettuce. On their burgers and in the side salad there was nothing but the yellow/white parts of the iceburg lettuce. -Eggplant parm is rubbery in a ketchup like sauce. (Why parm at a diner? Because Ginos wasn't open is why) -There was this dessert that I tell my friends about. It looked like a chocolate swirl, presumably pudding. However, it was filled with cherry jelly (?). The taste was reminiscent of a 99 cent store air freshener -Eggs, which should be a diner staple are rubbery. My friend had the bacon, which was also rubbery, possibly frozen bacon(?). Good: -Service is friendly -Sweet potato fries are good I love diners, and there are a number in the area. My favorite diner in the area is Stop 20. Or if you're just looking for the basic diner food/ice cream I'd just go to Itchens. read more

The menu is enormous, with a seemingly endless number of selections to choose from. The service is good. The prices are average. The food is just average, but the portions are really large.
