Soooooo for me breakfast is 3 stars... lunch and dinner foods are 4 stars.... I really love the fries here and the honey mustard is out of control delicious. Wait staff and ambiance: everyone is very nice, helpful and attentive, the hosts are nice as well. It's a diner, it's clean, with booths and tables. Food: came here for breakfast, ordered chocolate chip pancakes and home fries well done with American cheese melted on them. The home fries were out of control delicious, crispy, and cheesy... really good. The pancakes were ehhh... to be honest, I make better... lol they were fluffy, but too airy for my liking. I've never had a bad meal at the ValBrook, whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In fact, the only criticism could be that the serving size requires a doggy bag! Valbrook under new ownership and is not as good. They improperly cooked two of our items. Made a mistake on a third, and then tried to re-serve part of the mistake. The cheeseburgers, even though cooked medium rare, were thin, dry, tasteless, and only had one slice of barely melted cheese. Formerly free pickles and Cole Slaw now had an additional price. Obviously the quality of the meat not as good. Obviously they are cutting corners. We were all hungry, but none of the food was good enough to finish. I have gone to the Valbrook for years...each time I visit NY and before I yelped. I wish I could give it more than 1 star and I thought about my previous experiences and still I just can't give more than 1 star. Food: my aunt had a spinach and egg white omelette with romain and tomato on the side. The server forgot the tomato and acted like my aunt did not order. She was rather snippy with her regarding the salad dressing choices. My daughter had chicken tenders. They were pretty big in size but thin. Her meal came with a cookie. She chose a black and white. It was the worse black and white cookie I've ever tasted. It was dry and hard. My food...I ordered a vegetable wrap with out cheese. Since I am vegan there weren't many choices. It was to have onions, peppers, mushrooms, broccoli and zucchini. Let's start with the mushrooms, they were canned. The zucchini was grated (so tiny pieces). There were little pieces of broccoli. The remainder of the wrap was onions and peppers. The wrap had zero flavor. ZERO! As I started the 2nd half, I noticed something out of place and sure enough there was bacon and cheese! They were tiny pieces, but I don't eat cheese or pork/bacon since I am vegan. I showed it to the server and she just brushed it off. No surprise there. My aunt mentioned it to the manager while she was paying and the manager also brushed it off saying I should have said something at the table and they would have made me a new one. 1st, it was on the 2nd half and 2 the wrap was horrible anyway why would I want another? Very nice diner. Came with my father and little sister. Took us a little while to decide what to get because everything on the menu looked good and reasonably priced. Were conscious to socially distance due to the pandemic and all of the staff wore masks. Food was very good and gave large portions. We were happily surprised when we saw how much food we got. I ordered the Cajun chicken salad and it was well worth it. Ended up taking the rest home. Overall, great dinner, friendly staff, and very clean. Can't wait to return. read more

I've been going here for almost 10 years now. Food is pretty good, solid diner food. The servers who bring you the water, the ancillary staff, are always the kindest and most attentive when my family and I go here. Honestly, I'm not impressed with the actual wait staff. And I never was for all my years here. I never felt too welcomed by them. I asked for chicken and waffles and was laughed at for asking for honey mustard... I was asked if I wanted boxes in the middle of my family and I still eating and talking - I was quite literally mid laughter during a conversation when asked if I wanted boxes, basically telling me to leave. I come here with my parents after my night shifts, and I look forward to having a nice breakfast and enjoying quality time after a long night. I gave this review one star because I wasn't allowed to give zero stars or a negative star. I've been coming here for many years and after today, you couldn't pay me to come back. My husband, daughter and I came here at 12:30pm in advance of a 1:45 movie in Lynbrook theater which is only about 10 minutes away. We waited for about 15 minutes for a table which was extremely reasonable for a Sunday. We were seated at 12:45 and waited about 10 minutes before a waiter came to take our order. We waited from 12:55 to 1:30 for food that never came. The waiter apologized and said at 1:15 that food was coming. It did... to other tables. When we couldn't wait anymore since we didn't want to be late for the movie, I approached the manager/owner and told him we were leaving and offered to pay for the 2 coffees and 1 Apple juice we had during our 45 minute wait for food. His response was, "We're not a fast food restaurant. I'll get you the bill." WOW! In a fast food restaurant, we would have gotten better service and actual food. I didn't realize they needed at least an hour to prepare waffles, French toast and eggs. The owner's attitude was arrogant and showed a lack of caring and respect for his customers. Even though the bill was negligible, and ESPECIALLY BECAUSE it was negligible, he should have made amends by offering to comp us for a meal that we never ate and will not eat even when we take it home. Who eats breakfast from a diner the day after?!!!! We will not be back. I will take my business to another diner that will own up to its mistake and say, "I'm sorry for your wait and your inconvenience." So disappointed and so mad! Update: July 1 As a follow up to the snarky Valbrook manager who said, "This is not fast food.", my daughter and I DID go to a fast food restaurant... the Bayside McDonald's on 203 St and Northern Blvd this afternoon. Val Brook is one of my go-to diners in the Lynbrook area (one of 3), even though it's technically in Valley Stream. Although it's got some great food, I actually put it at #3 for me in the area and usually opt for this diner for convenience over anything else. In the past, I have ordered quite a number of items off the menu, everything from eggs and omelettes to burgers, french toast, sandwiches, paninis and more. Everything I've sampled has been great! The eggs always come out fresh (as do the sides), the burgers are always juicy and cooked just to the right temperature, and the service is fast. Thinking about this diner independently (not compared to the competition), it definitely offers everything you need (decent parking, good location, quick and friendly service, competitive price, and good quality food). The one aspect where this diner excels is service. Every staff member I've encountered here has been incredibly friendly. The owners and shift managers in particular are very welcoming and even offer a smile when seating you. Having come here many times, the service has never fallen short. Prices and ambiance here are also pretty much what you would expect for a diner: function and comfort over anything else. And the staff never rushes you out, which is important for a diner. Stopped in for a business lunch with a colleague. The place looked quite clean with plenty of staff to bus tables and keep diners happy. We were greeted quickly and shown to a table. Now, my colleague brought his laptop inside so we could get some work done while we were eating. We asked our server if they had Wi-Fi. She said she didn't know. We asked another employee. He said he didn't know. We asked a third employee. Same thing. My colleague gave up and put the laptop away. Then the manager, or owner, came to our table and said he was told we were asking for white wine. I said, no, Wi-Fi. He said they didn't have it. Truth be told, if I am in the area again around lunchtime and need a place with Wi-Fi, even if the food was the best ever, I would have to go elsewhere. Just the times we live in. We ordered from the extensive menu. I had a cheeseburger deluxe and he had a reuben. Nothing wrong with the food. Was it terrific? No. Was it Long Island diner good? Yes. Having grown up on Long Island, and having been to a zillion diners, truth is the food is pretty decent. The burger was large and tasty and it came with a surprisingly large and hot order of fries. The service we received was attentive and friendly. I would return for a casual lunch where no business needed to be done. Saturday morning we had unexpected guests arrive from a long distance and we all decided to reach out to Valbrook before they opened for breakfast platter options. Although they did not have platters we ordered French toast bread and other meals to make a platter. Sadly the French toast tasted like it was submerged in sour milk. Why? No excuses since we were probably the first order of the morning. It was embarrassing and a sin to have 10people subject to throw it away and pretty much not have something that should have been satisfying meal. The manager came over to our table & ask how we were doing, then proceeded to ask us if we parked in a spot that had a cone. We told him yes, since there were absolutely no spots in their lot. I had the pizza burger & probably the best diner burger I've ever had in Long Island. They put mozz cheese on both ends of the buns, making it extra cheesy. The coleslaw was my favorite, sooo creamy. Yet, the dessert wasn't the freshest, so I'd watch out on that. My friends & I got a slice of choc mousse cake and a huge eclair. The cake had that type of taste where you can tell it's been sitting out there, but the eclair was really gross. The cream inside of it was like a jelly consistency.
