Valbrooks is my local diner that just never disappoints I have been coming for years and of course on a sunday I was in the mood for some comfort food. The menu has possibly every single thing you could be craving from all day breakfast, to burgers, salads, soups and sweet treats The service is always friendly and fast, with us being seated upon arrival. The calm yet fun music also is a nice touch. I got the veggie quesadilla that comes packed with veggies and a side salad. The plate is a generous portion and I was able to save some for home. The eggs were cooked nicely and the Swiss melted well, creating a good creamy texture, and the turkey added a hearty touch. The home fries came in generous portions, crisp on the outside with soft centers, it was okay, but very plain. The diner atmosphere felt comfortable and relaxed, which made the meal enjoyable. Service was decent and the kitchen delivered in a reasonable time. The price was fair for the portion size and what you get. However the overall, was a solid choice for classic diner. Because I was directly across the street from this restaurant, why not dine in! As I walked in, there is soft music playing and I immediately felt the serene tone that's place is giving. I was immediately sat in a sectional part of the restaurant by the window which gave a pleasant view. I studied the menu and I saw the Valbrook salad. I started salivating. It had Garbanzo beans, egg, tomato, red pepper, cucumber, celery, and romaine lettuce topped off with my choice of grilled chicken and not to forget the croutons. I had to work on this salad as I delight myself in every bite. Since I'm in a diet I chose the house oil and vinegar instead of the vinegarette and it still had a bite to the dressing. So came here with a friend. Honestly have driven past so many times just have never stopped in. The staff were polite and courteous. We were seated very quickly and did not feel rushed to come to a discussion. The place is very clean and has a nice timeless feel to it. Our food came out quickly we got the do to pickle and coleslaw you get at just about every diner you go to in NY. I had the gyro.m which came with salad and fries. It would have better been named gyro platter cause it wasn't wrapped like a gyro sandwich. I was actually a bit underwhelmed by it. But also I was u see the weather so can't fully trust my palate. i had a great experience at Valbrook for a early 5pm dinner. i wanted something fresh. i ordered the chicken caesar salad wrap that came with coleslaw and a pickle. the lettuce was crispy and very fresh. the chicken was deliciously seasoned not bland at all. the portion was perfect and the coleslaw was PLENTIFUL! the pickle was so good. the fries were well done and very flavorful. the waiter was very kind and checked up on me. i will absolutely be back. read more

We tried this place a few times. Nice waiters who offer good service but who are obviously oppressed by a bullying manager. Food is okay to good. Today we decided to stop patronizing the place because the manager enforces pettiness by charging extra for inadequate salad tomatoes. Unfortunately had two negative and annoying chat with manager. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a local diner. It had some really nice Christmas decorations out. The staff were friendly & on point when it came to checking on us. The food was affordable. Why are home fries ordered very well done mostly just white? We come here often when visiting my in laws in the area. My favorite entree is the roast turkey dinner. The turkey is fresh and never dry comes with stuffing choice of potato, vegetable and a choice of soup or salad. The servings are very generous enough for a couple of meals. Extremely Disturbing Experience - Unsafe Behavior from Staff Member (Anthony) We came to this diner to celebrate a family reunion -- our cousin was visiting from overseas. We've been regular customers here for over 30 years, and always enjoyed coming here until this shocking incident. We brought a $500 bottle of alcohol and planned to discuss it with our server, intending to pay for opening it and also order from the bar. Before we had a chance to explain, a staff member named Anthony suddenly ran up to our table screaming, saying we couldn't bring alcohol into his establishment. His behavior was erratic and aggressive -- his eyes were red, his hands were shaking, and he was shouting so loudly that saliva landed on our food. We even offered to buy the most expensive bottle of alcohol from their bar to resolve the situation politely, but Anthony refused, saying he was not selling us anything. He then grabbed our bottle and drinks from the table with his bare hands, took them away without permission, and threatened to call the police. We were shocked and deeply uncomfortable. He came back moments later, threw the check on the table, and told us never to return. When I went to pay and asked why he said that, he denied it and walked away, refusing to face me. As a doctor, I have worked with psychotic patients in clinical settings, but those are controlled and professional environments. What I witnessed here was frightening, unpredictable, and deeply upsetting. It was depressing to see such rude and inconsiderate behavior in what used to be one of my favorite places. Anthony's behavior was so unstable that it made us fear for our safety. Management should immediately evaluate whether he is fit to interact with customers. After this disturbing encounter, I can no longer recommend this diner. Never in my life have I experienced such an attitude from staff or ownership toward loyal customers. Definitely not my favorite diner when in in NY. I find the food and the service to be just mediocre. My daughter was the only one whom enjoyed what she ate. A cheese burger. My wife and I definitely didn't enjoy what we had. My wife a grilled vegetable sandwich, it was tasteless! I had a grilled cheese with ham. It was light on the cheese and the ham was very salty. Other then my wife's aunt ordered the toast unbuttered and it came out buttered, she was fine with what she had. Now my wife's uncle had a problem. He wanted them to alter the vegetable omelet. He wanted onions instead of zucchini in it, and they gave him such a hard time. The kicker is, they could leave out the zucchini and for an up charge they could add onions. The wait staff are very accommodating and always go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Indra is our go to waitress and by the time we sit down, she has coffee on the table for us. We came to this diner for a quick bite before a doctors appt. This is the first time we've been to this diner but we're definitely coming back. They were really busy today for Thursday afternoon but a lot of people were here for school graduations. The staff is very fast and on top of refilling coffee/tea and drinks. JB had the Mexican burger with a baked potato. The burger was large snd cooked perfectly topped with cheese, sautéed onions & jalapeño peppers on a sesame seed bun. The baked potato was huge and perfectly baked/roasted. The skin was crisp and the potato inside was fluffy and tender. He was given 2 containers of butter & sour cream/chives each.......which was a pleasant surprise. Usually we have to ask for a lot of butter & sour cream . He wolfed this delicious meal down Shel ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with french fries. The sandwich was served open faced o a large roll. The meat was tender & moist topped with sautéed onions & bell peppers smothered in white cheese. The fries were perfectly cooked and salted......crisp and light brown on the outside & tender on the inside. The cheesesteak sandwich was delicious. I ordered the Beef Burger Deluxe that came with French fries, lettuces & tomato . The burger was cooked perfectly and was juicy & tender. The fries were equally delicious..... crisp & brown on the outside but fluffy/ tender on the inside.......best part is they were perfectly salted I love this diner, a few diners have gone down hill since I came to NYC in the late 1980's but this is the perfect Iconic NYC diner but in beautiful Long Island I highly recommend this diner to anyone that wants delicious NYC diner food with a large selection of menu items but thankfully they condensed the menu down to a paper menu instead of the old 10-12 page book read more

I have been here a handful of times during my time in Valley Stream. I can agree with many of the negative and positive reviews since it's really hit or miss. During my last visit, the service was uneventful though slow, in as much as it wasn't busy but I waited some time before my order was taken. No attitude from the server, but no feeling of them being happy I was there. I ordered the classic cheeseburger deluxe. I found the burger tasty, as I would expect in a good diner. The fries were undercooked for my taste. I enjoyed the accompaniments of Cole slaw and the pickles. Not sure why they are so stingy on the coke slaw. Maybe so they can charge you another dollar for a thimble sized serving (ergo, the 3 stars instead of 4) that I happily paid, in lieu of a larger tip. I will stay on my once every year and 1/2 schedule. I'm never wowed but not totally turned off either. read more

I've been going here for almost 10 years now. Food is pretty good, solid diner food. The servers who bring you the water, the ancillary staff, are always the kindest and most attentive when my family and I go here. Honestly, I'm not impressed with the actual wait staff. And I never was for all my years here. I never felt too welcomed by them. I asked for chicken and waffles and was laughed at for asking for honey mustard... I was asked if I wanted boxes in the middle of my family and I still eating and talking - I was quite literally mid laughter during a conversation when asked if I wanted boxes, basically telling me to leave. I come here with my parents after my night shifts, and I look forward to having a nice breakfast and enjoying quality time after a long night.
