The manager at this restaurant is insanely rude. I'm simply a doordash driver, and upon arrival he told me to wait 15-20 minutes while they make the food and then sent an employee over 5 minutes later telling me to cancel the order. After I heard him yelling at an employee that everyone has to wait sometimes. Keep in mind I was extremely respectful and did not complain at all. Even though Ben's Deli has a kosher certification on it's website, and is (for me) the quintessential restaurant for Jewish cuisine in the metropolitan NYC/LI area, my Glatt-kosher cousin doesn't even consider it kosher (and won't eat there) because Ben's is open for business on the Sabbath day. Other than random bagel delies, if you're looking for a concentration of full service, Glatt-kosher restaurants on Long Island, you'll find them in this Five Towns area. It also helps to know in advance whether the Glatt-kosher restaurant you want is going to serve dairy ("millhig") or meat ("fleishig") - this one is a dairy restaurant. They served two free, but unimpressive, baguette bread baskets with butter while we looked at the menu: one baguette seemed plain; and the other was pumpernickel - one of the white end pieces was stale, but otherwise the rest were decent (and we were hungry). I started with a bowl of the vegetable soup and loved it: homemade and (FWIW) lip-smacking better than any I've made. My wife ordered the French onion soup, thought the onions were undercooked, didn't like the croutons, and felt the broth tasted way off. (All soups were $7.) My wife then ordered a salad wrapped in a panini for her entree ($13). The veggies were all fresh, but the dish was easily forgettable. I ordered the make-your-own individual "pizza" for $17 (pick your choice of four ingredients). Whatever ingredients were on top (mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and fresh garlic) were delicious, but the bread on the bottom (pita?) was virtually uncooked ... for someone who enjoys pizza, that was unforgiveable. My cousin ordered the ravioli a la vodka for $18 (and ate them all). My son ordered an unremarkable mixed grilled cheese sandwich (quesadilla) with a side of fries ($14). We were full and didn't have room for dessert or coffee, which is regrettable, considering the name of this restaurant. read more

I'm rarely on this side of the island so figured why not give Coffee Bar a whirl for lunch! We were treated to a charcuterie board that was both beautiful and delicious. From simple petite goat cheese rounds to a cranberry & pecan mixed one to a robust blue cheese and milder inbetween ones accompanied by several house cured and smoked fishes...truly heavenly. A smoked sea bass topped with a black flakey salt was incredible. The lox was not at all fishy and seasoned just enough. For our variety of entrees, ordered the new tagliatelle pasta creation: perfect handmade pasta cooked al dente ribbons in a super light cream sauce laced with nicely toasted pecans fried sage leaves, an amazing combo of flavors. The crispy pan fried perch encrusted in crunchy buttery pecans was a very good balance of sweet and savory and the accompanied mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed haricoverts were a nice touch. The porcini encrusted sea bass was perfectly cooked however we were unanimous that it needed a different side other than the brown rice it was laid ontop of...suggested possibly a creamy cheesey polenta instead. The handmade fluffy gnocchi with a luscious creamy vodka sauce I could eat my weight worth. To round it all out the mac & cheese spring rolls were both hearty and light at the same time plus quite addicting as well. A very warm and welcoming staff combined with great carefully crafted food from the heart, I'm excited to add this place to my short list of good Kosher eats haunts! read more

Stopped by for Lunch today. Here's what I had and what I thought. We walked in and got seated right away. It's quite a large space and only 4 tables were occupied. Waitress came over really smiley and happy with menus and started us off with coffee and bread. When she came back with my coffee in a Starbucks to go cup with a starbucks holder I was taken aback for a moment and thought this is going to be crap. But then I read above the coffee maker a sign saying "We brew Starbucks coffee" I was cool with that. We shmoozed and then looked at the menu a little. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood of, so I asked the waitress to call the Chef, Albert out. He came out. I introduced myself, and he was so nice and helpful in suggesting what to order. So we ordered as follows. Mac N Cheese Egg Rolls - I know the idea might be cute and probably could work but I took a bite and spit it out. Something was seriously wrong with the flavors and cheese. Salmon Tartar - Wow! An absolutely amazing dish. I love that it is covered with black salt. It compliments the salmon and gives the avocado flavoring it wouldn't have. We stripped that dish! Eggplant Parmesan - Also, really liked this dish. It was big, flavorful, I love that he added the pasta at the bottom of the dish topped with the eggplant. Didn't go cheap on the eggplant either. Maple Glazed Salmon - I don't think I've ever had a maple glazed salmon. At first I thought it might be too sweet; but not at all. I do think the dish was more oily than necessary but the salmon was cooked to perfection. The green beans were flavorful and the ginger gave it that extra kick. I didn't taste the sweet potatoes. Yuka Fries - Concept is great. The chef sprinkled the fries with thick salt. It was really good but I couldn't eat more than two as it's super starchy. But it's a great side to order to go around a large party. So, in conclusion, I was really impressed with service and food. And I would recommend it to friends and family in the neighborhood. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times and it is always a wonderful experience! Today I came with a friend and was seated immediately. The waitress was quick to take and deliver our drink orders and gave us ample time to peruse the menu to make our meal choices. My friend ordered the egg and lox breakfast special and I ordered the Haloumi salad. Portions were large (I was particularly impressed with how generous they were with the Haloumi cheese cubes) and plated beautifully. Our waitress, Brenda, is a gem! Whenever I've been to The Coffee Bar I've been impressed with her warmth, positive and pleasant demeanor and friendliness to both adults and children. Today, she overheard that I had recently celebrated a birthday and she surprised me with a muffin on the house, accompanied by a candle and a song! What a wonderful way to end a wonderful meal! read more

I have been to the coffee bar many of times throughout the years. The problem with the coffee bar is that it is extremely inconsistent. The food is sometimes really good and other times really bad. So while I may enjoy coming here, there is only a 50/50 chance I am going to get what I am looking for. I was here a couple of nights ago and it was bad. We walked in and it was still open. I was with my mother, my sister, and her baby. We ordered coffee drinks, 2 caesar salads, french fries, kids mac & cheese, a toasted muffin, and a vegetable soup. The server took a long time to come and take our order. Finally she came, took our order and brought us some bread. We were never given water throughout the whole meal. The waitress brought us our food well some of it and we never saw her again. We never received the vegetable soup or the muffin. All I ate that meal was french fries. The portion of fries were huge and somewhat decent tasting. But, I never got my veg soup which is what I was really longing for. My sister said the kids mac and cheese tasted gross. She urged me to try it but why would I want to try it after she said it was gross? The caesar salads were good but it is really hard to mess that up. After the bad service and food we get the check. They charge an automatic 15% tip If it was up to me they would have gotten a 0 dollar top considering no service was to be had. It was a disturbing dining experience. read more

Delicious food! However the waitstaff is very forgetful and take forever to come back around to give us the check. Just spent 40 minutes waiting for chocolate soufflé and ordered the check instead (which came at the same time!!) cuz we got tired of waiting. Also they got our wine order wrong. read more

My friend and I sat outside and didn't receive menus for the first ten minutes of sitting there. After receiving menus and deciding on our orders, we sat for 15 minutes only to find out that the kitchen was backed up and was no longer taking orders for another hour. Every time I come here is an enjoyable experience. It's a very family friendly atmosphere but also sophisticated enough for a date night out. The service has always been impeccable, and the tables and serving utensils are clean, creating an appetizing environment. I went out for breakfast today, my boyfriend wanted to go to sunflower cafe but I wanted to go to the Coffee Bar. The bread they serve is usually fresh but this time the bread was very stale. I ordered an omelet which comes with Israeli salad, and the salad tasted old, definitely not fresh. It is not difficult to prepare fresh salad, apparently they don't respect their customers enough. Came here on a Saturday night a few weeks back. I ordered the baked ziti. While waiting I overheard a conversation from another table with their waiter that there was something wrong with the pasta they ordered, and the customer asked them to make sure to let the kitchen know it was off. When my plate was brought, it was immediately clear that the sauce was spoiled. I sent it back, and was not charged. They wanted me to buy something else off the menu, but after an experience like that I wasn't about to give them another chance. Really good place for any meal of the day. Great service! They just renovated the whole place! It has completely different look and they have done a lot of fixing. I recommend to all the reviewers to go check that place again and update the reviews! Their strawberry slush has so much flavor! This summer I recommend to everyone to try it - best slush I have tasted ever. It should be the first thing to order and it's just $2.50 for medium (before it was $5). It seem like their menu now seasonal, because I saw that it said on it "summer 2014", so it should be interesting to see. I think it's second restaurant on Central ave. now that has seasonal menu. Will see how it will turn out. I really like the new design - black, white, and red. It's reminds me of Sushi Tokio just one store down from them, but hey if it looks good why not. Extremely horrible service. Ordered a salad that has nuts in it and specifically told the waiter to not add the nuts into the salad because somebody at the table had a severe allergy. The salad came and as we were mixing it, we see that there are walnuts in it. We told the waiter who did not even want to listen to what we had to say, he just grabbed the salad and said he will give us a new one with no nuts. We also ordered a panini, it was soggy and had no flavor. After this mistake had happened, we were offered a complimentary dessert. The waiter was bringing the dessert and tipped over the cup that was on the table, and water spilled everywhere. Everything soaking wet, and now one of us has water damage on our phone because it spilled right onto the phone. The waiter was trying to fix the mistake that he made with the salad, but he made another mistake as he was trying to fix the first one. And lastly, the environment was not safe at all, every single table was so close to each other and everyone was yelling over each other because it was so crowded. They closed the blinds of the restaurant so nobody could see how busy it was in the inside. Very horrible experience and I will make sure to never give them business ever again. read more

A Great Dairy Restaurant The Coffee Bar, on Central Avenue in Lawrence, is my favorite dairy restaurant. My family loves to eat the many dishes, including Bourbon Glazed Cedar Planked Salmon, Cheese Ravioli and more. To judge any restaurant, the quality of the food and service is most important and at The Coffee Bar the quality of both is excellent. The food is always fresh, the spicing is perfect, and the pricing is just right. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and seated, the place is always clean and a family friendly environment. As far as the ambiance is concerned, the restaurant was just remodeled and I love the new modern look. The best thing for me and my family is that the menu satisfies adults and children alike. This place is just awful! The service and the food - ugh! Out of 13 people, maybe 1 person enjoyed their food? Completely non-existent service other than taking orders and delivering food, we never saw our waitress unless we flagged her down. Never came to check to see if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything else. Many times it was just easier to walk up to the counter and ask than to wait around for her. Oh and if you needed any type of condiments they were so stingy with how much they gave you! The food was just terrible, bearable at best. I ordered grilled cheese and it was very interesting - never in my life have I seen grilled cheese made this way, not to mention after 2 bites it got sent back immediately! Not to mention it looked like a little kid made it as did most of their dishes. Manicotti tasted like they dumped half a bottle of salt on top if it. Baked Ziti the cheese didn't taste right. Salmon sandwich was barely edible. Pizza was just eh. Veggie Burgers weren't that great either. Mac n Cheese Spring Rolls would've been great if they weren't so bland. Dear God, where do I begin. I came here with the understanding that the restaurant improved in their renovation. Clearly, it has not. Pro: The service was pretty good. The Penne a la Vodka was good. Con: Everything else. When we came in, I noticed that the tables had black tablecloths that didn't look clean. Then, they decided to bring everything at the same time. Thats all well and good, except one person in our party of four didn't get her sandwich. When she did get her sandwich, something was spoiled in it. I was referred by a friend to check out the coffee bar for lunch . My experience here was far from great . The service was horrible and the food did not come out all at once. Finally when my food come out my squash medley was ice cold . On top of bad service and cold food my wife saw a roach on the wall next to our table. When I asked my waiter to speak to his boss his response was he's not in the building after I spoke to the boss before my family was seated. I found that salmon sandwich a bit salty but my other friends did enjoy their food so I'm glad for them. I used to H ate this place! In the last year it has taken a turn for the better!!! Literally everything I have tried is beyond delicious. The Food is fresh, unique and presented well. This is now a step above a simple cafe. Really awesome menu with everything from comfort food, to healthy cuisine and everything inbetween. Doesn't hurt that there's Starbucks either. We had a very nice Father's Day dinner at The Coffee Bar. We had not been there for a while. We were very pleased with the quality of the food and relatively attentive service. The smoked fish and cheese plate offered a nice selection of the cafe's own smoked fish and a variety of cheese. The tuna was well prepared a cooked medium rare as requested. Place is great I went in two weeks ago with my family members and had a great meal the food is good.we had a great server a Spanish guy kelvin I believe his name wus very polite he took well care of us made us feel just at home we were provide with an excellent service. My kids loved it,also our server came with a nice piece of cake to sing happy birthday to my youngest daughter, we all had a great time that there made our day. the place looks good after renovation.
