Food is delicious. The sushi is amazing. I had a cooked branzino on too of the sushi something i dont have where i live in los angeles. So it was amazing. Alot to choose from. I also had there salad with feta and goat cheese was amazing. Its a nice place to sit for to stay and eat def. Family friendly. The staff was very sweet. Cant wait to go back when i am back in ny!! The food that was ordered was for a shiva house (house of mourners). We ordered food and wanted it delivered promptly at 12:15. The food was ordered in advance with ample time for its delivery. Nevertheless, the delivery person came at 12:15 and said "sorry the food is all over the street". It then took over 2 1/2 hours for the food to be redelivered. When the food was redelivered, there were items we ordered were missing, the food was cold and inedible. The food was overly salty. This was a horrendous experience and will never recommend this restaurant. When I called to complain, I was told "there is nothing we can do." This is an extremely poor example of how to run a business and maintain customers. read more

Came here a few years ago, and I THOUGHT I remembered the food being pretty good so I decided to come back. After today though I will not be returning for any future meals. I placed an order online for a Panini & juice. 20 minutes later got to the restaurant, and was told then that the carrot juicer was out of service and if I wanted something else, the guy behind counter recommended the lemonada so I went for that. After waiting another 15 minutes in the restaurant I was given a bag and told to have a nice day, I walked out looked at the receipt and saw it was an Omlet. Went back in told them the order was wrong, and now waited another 10 minutes for the panini to be ready. The restaurant was not crowded at all and I purposely ordered online to just have a quick pickup experience which was anything but that. The $18 Panini looked like it was going to be good but turned out sucking. The bread was great, but it also was most of the sandwich. Light on the workings inside. The lemonada was gross, it tasted exactly like how a wet dog smells so that was tossed. Waste of time and money. $30 for a Panini & gross juice is a bit absurd. I get that kosher food is often a bit more expensive but there were no gold flakes that I saw in my sandwich. Won't be coming back for another meal again. read more

Totally forgot to write a review for Sunflower. Sunflower is generally crowded as it is one of the better Kosher establishments on Central ave. I am not a fan of kosher food in general and find prices to high. Sunflower is not exception prices are high. The food is ok and the service is also just ok nothing special. Unfortunately Sunflower Café is one of those restaurants that has become complacent and self-absorbed. Do your "hangry" self a favor and do not order on Uber eats, because they take f-o-r-e-v-e-r, and always have an excuse why the food is late, why the food order is wrong, or why they left out an item. I have eaten at sunflower Café many times and the food is usually consistent, but pricey - the value is just not there folks. The weird thing is it's not a "fabulous restaurant", it's just that they know the local populace, of which I am one, will just keep going back to a familiar place even, if that place is taking advantage of you. I ordered on uber. My delivery came missing my drink. I spent $50 on the order. When I called sunflower, the manager was very rude, was not willing to correct this error, and hung up on me. When I called back, a different person answered the phone. When I requested to speak to the manager, he said "speaking" until i asked for his name, then passed the phone around till I got the actual manager (the one who hung up on me). When I asked for his name, then and only then did he come up with a solution. He told me to re order it on uber and that he'll deny the charge. That was another lie because I reordered it and they did not deny the charge. All this for overpriced, just ok food. That's the last time I go to sunflower. This is my first time using Yelp as posting. I usually look at reviews. I wanted to post about my amazing experience that I had today at Sunflower Cafe Cedarhurst. For the past 8 to 10 years I've been enjoying Sunflower Cafe. I noticed the manager or the guy behind the checkout counter is always smiling always friendly always out the help. Today for some reason I noticed more than the usual and I told my friend that I was with that I think he must have bought the restaurant because his behavior is outstanding. When the restaurant first opened up he was the manager. His smile was unbelievable. Everything to help the customer. Every time somebody came in that was a little bit elderly or needed help with a baby he ran to the door to open up with a smile and patiently. I was so moved by this scene. I said I must go over and comment how I was so impressed by his behavior and he is a role model for Humanity. I always loved their food and I love their service but watching this today and seeing it over and over and over over was remarkable AND SO INSPIRING I asked him for his name since I always knew him by FACE. His name is Yoni. I'm going to call him Yoni the angel . By the way, the salmon was outstanding. And they make one of the best cappuccinos in town. read more

Central Avenue has tons of kosher restaurants. However there is a problem with the majority of them, The wonderful thing about Sunflower is that it is very consistent. You can always count on good meal. The same couple of guys work there and they are very friendly. The food is fresh and comes in big portions. I enjoy the soups. (french onion is my fav.) Huge menu with a wide selection. They will serve you even if you come in five minutes before closing. My mother loves the freedom toast. Oh and a hint hint the "baked potatoes" are little cubes of potatoes not a big baked potato. when it came out we went and looked at the menu and realized it had an s added to potato. Whoops. But they were still good. The waffle with ice cream is the favorite in my family. Try it! read more

I must be brutally honest here, the food was just average in my opinion. The service is phenomenal. Sandwiches tasted good but comparing it to Muscat cafe- muscat sandwich taste slightly better. We went for Sunday lunch and were lucky to get the last available table. It's kosher and all the men wore yarmulkas (so I didn't take off my baseball cap). There were several families with little children - it's a crowded, informal, family restaurant. I ordered a mushroom & onion omlette with whole wheat toast and it comes with a choice of salad, so I picked the Israeli salad. The omlette and salad were great, but they didn't bring the whole wheat toast until I was almost done with my meal, despite two requests (after it didn't get served with the meal). The coffee was good too, but the choices were skim or whole milk - no half & half, and no one came by to offer a refill. In conclusion, the food was good, but the service was not. I also thought the staff was pleasant. I'd go back if I were in that area again, just not at such a busy time. read more

I generally like sunflower. Their food is solid (with some definite hit or misses on the menu) and the atmosphere is comfortable. They don't take reservations which is kind of a bummer if you have a big party. Also, they tend to get really crowded on Sundays around lunch. While their service is generally good, it tends to get significantly worse when they are busy. The last time I was there on Sunday for lunch the food took close to 25 minutes to come (and nothing we ordered required that kind of prep time) and the service was pretty terrible. I would recommend the sushi- it's always great and even when they are busy comes very quickly. read more

Love this place for breakfast and lunch. They have awesome omelette's ... my favorite is the vegetable egg white omelet with a side of salad with pesto dressing. I love the salads here and they are great for sharing because they are HUGE. My favorite salad is the tel aviv salad with feta cheese and homemade pesto dressing. Oy Vey! This attractive downtown kosher cafe was as disappointing as Elaine's big salad. But the hoards of local orthodox jews would differ with me. Service wasn't that attentive and we never got a dedicated waiter or waitress just different people kept assisting us. My "Sunflower" omelet was WAY overcooked. Wife's Eggplant panini looked more like a sandwich, and was cold. We sent it back to be pressed. It came back lukewarm, fifteen minutes later only after i flagged down the hostess to go check on her sammie. At least her bread was good. Her side salad was meh, but she liked it. As a Christmas present to this place, I'm giving it 2 out of 5 stars (it really deserves 1.) The service here is poor at best. When we ordered, the arrogant waiter insisted that he would get the meals correct. After this, he disappeared to be replaced by two other servers who delivered the food. We ordered a salad, which was completely wrong, and a side dish for a sandwich was also incorrect. Besides this, the food took forever to come. Whenever we visit his uncle, who keeps strictly kosher, we go to one of these restaurants on Central Avenue. Sunflower Cafe is the best of the bunch. The menu has tons of variety and offers lots of soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta and even sushi. I had the chef's salad, and their homemade vinaigrette was really, really delicious. My fiance has a salmon panini (which was mostly lox) which he said was amazing. Everything was quick and easy-- plus there were a bunch of kids birthday parties going on. I don't think this place is anything special. I had avocado salad and mango sushi. Avocado salad didn't have any flavor and I had to ask for dressing after they served the food. The Sushi had no wow flavor either. I think the food is very plain and overpriced. Staff was pretty were pretty slow for an almost empty restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. One of the better restaurants with a kosher focus. I usually go for their salads which are an entree size. Sunflower is very quaint and offers a good selection. My only thing I am not so.crazy about is the bread that comes with most of the salads, usually has vegetables on it and looks so delicious but its a let down.when you bite into it.bc the bread is either kind of.stale tasting or mushy/ wet from.the rest of the salad. My family of about 10 has been here on numerous occasions. We've been there for lunches and dinners usually during the week. There is usually a wait as we are a large group but we don't usually have to wait long. My favorite thing is the sweet potato sushi and most definitely the LEMONANA. It's a must have. The kids menu has lots to choose from and the kids are always happy. The portions are generous and we almost always have to share or we have leftovers. Their delivery service is also pretty awesome. I have used them many times especially for new moms. It's a great treat in the middle of the day to have someone surprise you with take out. I have never been disappointed. read more
