Went for a pedicure. Quickest pedicure I've ever had. I chose my color, had it painted on within the 10 minutes I was massaged and rinsed in the chair. I looked at my toes and HALF my nails were missed completely cause my toe nails were too small. Uneven coats of the polish also made it dry with a weird texture. 2 stars cause it was clean and we were greeted when we walked in. read more

I almost did go in due to the bad reviews. Glad I did. The last place in town I went to that had 5 stars did a terrible job on my nails. While I like the dip concept they started breaking almost immediately and within a week or 2 they were just awful and painful from the chipping. I suppose the third time is the charm, I went in once to get a full- it was 45$ okay pricing but then one nail broke 2 days later I came in for a fill and they were very rude about it and charged me 5$ I asked for a repaint for all my nails and he told me 55$..... Sorry to say this but not happy at all The guy that did my nails talked a good game. Told me how he worked in his friends shop in NY and turned it around. Now this shop needs help they called him. Well if that's the case it will close again soon. I had him take my nails all the way down and start with new set. After 4 days had to go back. It was like the product was bad. It was brittle and cracking. My nails were lifting (I told him primer twice. He said no he uses No lift) Dan the Man not so great!! I've had nails 30+ years. I went here today against my better judgement (& their 2.5 stars), but decided to give this nail salon a chance due to the good reviews. Never again. I went in for a dip fill. The owner's wife had me sit down & started filing the top coat, wrapped my fingers in foil & acetone, then proceeded to focus on her own nails. My fingers were wrapped for almost 40 minutes...way too long! I asked her when she was taking the foil off because my fingers were burning & I know this was too long. She said "10 more minutes." What?! I again told her this isn't normal & my fingers literally felt like they were burning, but she was too busy trying to take her own acrylics off in front of me. Finally got the foil off, then she asked if I wanted my nails trimmed. I pointed to one finger & said, "yes, all to this length please." She grabbed that finger & chopped the nail off!! Then grabbed my pointer & chopped it off too & asked if that was good. I said, "well since you cut them shorter than I asked, I don't really have an option. That's already too short." I should have just left, my mistake. She cut down the other hand & made them twice as long, forcing me to ask to cut them all shorter so they matched my right hand. It took forever for her to find the colors I asked for (which the choices were severely lacking), had to change what I wanted because the 2 colors I wanted they didn't have. Her husband (owner) finally took over, & it took forever to do the dip. He made them so thin that I broke 2 nails within 2 hours of leaving! I barely tapped a can at home & my nail split down the side! I tried this place because it was close to work, but convenience is not worth this! I am going to make an appointment at my usual salon ASAP to fix the cracks/chips & messy job (dip powder now glued all around my cuticles). Super disappointed! Horrible experience. My nails were rushed. The acrylic was all different lengths on my nails (I came in with my nails already filed by the way). Also, my acrylic was bumpy, uneven, even falling off the sides of my nails. It was a train wreck. I finally said something about the woman rushing and doing a terrible job. Then the owner came to fill in for her. I told him why I was upset. He didn't think much of it. So I grabbed the nail file and did the best I could to fix my nail shape. I asked him to even out the acrylic, and he didn't. He slapped a shitty gel polish on and sent me out. the worst part was that I asked for colored acrylic, not gel. I have never in my life had such a shit job done on my nails. I have no idea how they are still in business due to the bad reviews, crummy work, and terrible customer service. I'm not sure why this salon has only 2 stars, I had a wonderful experience here today. I didn't have an appointment, and almost all of the chairs were full. I only waited about 3 minutes before I was getting my manicure done. I got a gel manicure and it was done quickly and very well. The manicurist paid a lot of attention to detail and made sure to clean up my nails really nicely, he did a really good job! As soon as I was done with the manicure I was moved to a comfy chair for my pedicure. The woman cleaned up my toes so well! I haven't found a salon in the area that pays so close attention to my toe nails and I was happily surprised with my pedicure! She scrubbed my feet, gave me a sugar scrub up my calves, and of course a massage afterwards. Everything felt really great and I had an overall great experience here. Do NOT go to this place--- First, I went in to get a regular pedi as a treat to myself ( I get one once a year). So, had no idea what to expect from them... What a MISTAKE! I asked if they ever put on fake toenails ever and I think they said "yes", but it was hard to understand... the lady, I think her name was Natalie, or...? said she could do mine for $30, so thought what the heck, I would like some pretty painted toenails for my family reunion.. MISTAKE #2!! She actually broke my skin with her little filing machine, I kind of jumped and she looked at me, mind you it was my big toe and yes, it hurt.... but I got this dirty look from her & then she panicked when I said my toe is bleeding, that hurt, so she went over and got some cotton balls and some sort of oil and rubbed on it... It has been 4 weeks and it still is not all healed up... She was so rude---- so, needless to say, I did not leave a tip for her... She never told me thank you, bye or nothing... she'll be lucky if I don't send the health department out to her.... GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! I wanted to like this place because it's not busy and they were really nice. Alas, I know why. They're really, really bad at doing nails. They might be ok at pedicures; I don't know. I didn't get one. They are archaic in the art of nails. They don't have dip powder or colored acrylic. All my nails were different lengths and shapes. When I went to edh, The Hills Nails, they were appalled and confused with my nails, as was I. They did a nail removal for me and were really gentle and nice, so I'm leaving this at 2 stars. Pros: The people here are really nice and the facility always appears clean. Prices are average. They are very thorough with their pedicures and have a good selection of polish colors. Cons: I don't like it when the nail salon has a TV playing in general (I don't find it relaxing in the slightest), I especially don't like it when they play a show that is in a language I don't understand. Especially when the nail tech stops in the middle of my pedicure every so often because she has her eyes glued to the TV set across the room and it distracts her. Also, last time I went in, they put on so much nailpolish it took HOURS to dry and I ended up with smudges. There was ONE technician I liked...she was nice enough to speak english to other coworkers. What did I end up getting from this place for a couple years of loyalty? I have been here twice since they remolded, and my mani/pedis have been just fine. Not at all bad, not super fantastic. But very good. My biggest disappointment has been in the clients. BOTH times there was a client that simply refused to pay after their service. What?!?! The first time was an older woman that felt she was ripped off, but i heard the conversation (although through very broken English) and she said yes when offered gel. Then refused to pay for the upcharge. Then last week a girl paid for her friends nails then literally said, "I'm not paying for mine though, i'm not happy with my nails" . Again, whatttt?!?! All 10 nails were did and she walked out with all 10 nails done. It was embarassing to see the dishonesty happening. I had three separate people working on my nails. They came out exactly as I envisioned. All of the manicurists here are perfectionists and completely love what they do. Only $25 for my full set & polish. The best part, they didn't nick me or hurt me once! Update: One of my nails broke only a week later. I didn't even notice when it happened so I guess it didn't take much to break one. I work at a computer all day so I don't even know what could've caused it. I checked this place out because I got a gift card. While I can't complain about getting a free pedicure, I will never go back. Not only was this place dirty and run down, it reeked of cigarette smoke. My nail tech cut my cuticle too short which caused it to bleed. She did a decent job on the painting of my toes, but the massage and exfoliation you get with a pedicure was maybe 5 minutes long total. Henry and his entire staff are incredibly kind & professional people. My mother suffers with dementia, and I had taken her to place after place looking for somewhere she could feel comfortable. I was so disappointed in so many of our local places I had all but given up. When I gave V Star a chance with her, I was so impressed! They understood immediately the special needs and handling mom requires & our delicate situation. They never make her feel like she is a pain and really give her her dignity. Now when I need mom to get in gear & get her nails done, all I have to say is, "We are going to see Henry" and she perks right up and gets in the car!! Avoid this place! Prices are competitive but service is not great. My pedicure was fine, a bit rough massage, but she adjusted when I mentioned it. My problem is when I went to pay. She was mid pedicure on another customer and walked over with her gloves on and took my debit card WITH THE DIRTY GLOVES. Then handed it back to me. So my debit card has some random persons foot funk all over it. My friend got mani and pedi and hates the polish job. Also her technician was quite slow and shakey so the polish is not smooth. by far the worst pedicure i have had in town. my heels are still cracked, my nails are uneven, and the whole pedicure was rough and uncomfortable. secondly, they don't use protective sleeves in their pedicure bowls. this is a procedure used by most every other salon for sanitary reasons. they are also more expensive, have less color options, and really unfriendly staff. i will never return. read more

My daughter and my self got pedis and full sets. They do not understand English well , nor do they speak English well. I had the drill hit my cuticle more than my nail was bleeding and hurt and she kept doing it . To make matters worse I got and infection and had to go to Dr. They did not use clean or new files or drill heads. The don't do the nail art they have displayed, and the nails were chunky and the shape was awful I will never go back. To top it off the bill was 160 for 2 pedis and 2 full sets nothing fancy. read more

I have given this place a number of second chances but today is where I have to draw the line. I will no longer be coming here. I always go here with my mom when I visit her and used to go here since it's been open. It's only gone downhill unfortunately despite their recent update in the salon. Last time I was here I had gel polish on my nails, it was done so poorly they needed to be redone. Same thing happened today, my gel polish was clumped up and the clear coat was painted on over my skin. I was told this is what happens when you have three coats of gel- which is not the case. I then had it redone by someone else who did a better job and still did three coats. This salon is slow, sloppy and really lacking in customer service. Not to mention overpriced for what the level of service they provide, complete waste of money and time. They only try when they have an unhappy customer. I wish this wasn't the case and I have always been hopeful things would improve but it's clear nothing has or will change. read more

Stay FAR FAR away if you can! My mom and I decided we wanted a girly day out, and decided to try Star Nails for a mani-pedi. The woman my mom had was wonderfully sweet! I had a man. Usually I like men doing my mani-pedi's, but this guy was awful, rude and rough. He used the pummus stone on the top of my feet... who does that? He literally rubbed my feet raw and made them bleed. It didn't even phase him. My toe nails look like a 4 year old painted them. While I was trying to forget the awful pedicure experience, he started my hands. I asked him to cut my nails and he said "No". I told him I didn't like them long, and he tried to get out of it by saying that short nails weren't good for me. I told him to cut them anyway. He did, but he cut them unevenly. He also cut up my cuticles and gave me hangnails... I thought they were supposed to take those away! The final straw for me was when he messed up my thumb nail and got all huffy and irritated like it was my fault. Unbelievable. After we left my mom told me she wasn't happy with her manicure as well. By the time we got home, both of our nails were already messed up. The cost for both of our mani-pedi's, $70!!!! Way overpriced! From now on we will be frequenting Sally's Nails down on Broadway or in Cameron Park. They are much better. read more

John quit and now they are back to doing a very very bad job again. My last and final attempt there was today. The woman putting the nails on did a horrible and painful job, and charged $40. Pretty sure I just paid $23 to get the polish on my toes changed. My definition of a good pedicure is one that includes leaving feeling refreshed, walking on feet that are callous-free and soft. And without a headache from the Mandarin TV program that was yelling at me the whole time. When I asked the tech if she was going to file, buff or otherwise remove the rough spots on my feet, she told me no, and that I needed to put lotion on my feet at night. Oh, and that I need a pedicure every 2 weeks. Thanks for the advice- I'll get right on that- but it won't be at Star Nails. Nice paint job, though. read more
