I love that the Old Market has this spot. It's kind of hidden, which makes it even better. I didn't even know there was a hidden restaurant there. The ambiance feels airy and open. It just gives that wow feeling. The food was great, you can tell from the picture. They have two styles of caviar and I got to try both. The service was fantastic too.

Service and ambiance is great. Such a cool space and all the servers/staff were very attentive. I tried this steak and the marinated tri tip and both were good. One of the highlights was the brandy cream sauce. The sides I thought were mediocre. excluding the service, I would probably say three stars in part given the combo of flavor/ portion/size of the appetizers, but pumping up to 4 stars given the service

Never disappoints! Our favorite place for special occasions and/or just a quiet, delicious dinner. The location is underground in the Passageway and it's a dark, moody, romantic vibe! We like sitting back by the wine wall, but this last time we ate out in the actual Passageway and that was a lot of fun too! They have a small, thoughtful menu. Great wines! Such attention to detail. We celebrated my husband's birthday there this past month and our server did a number of things to make it so special!

I mean this as a very positive 3 stars! We had the tasting menu with wine pairing for our anniversary, and there were many thoughtful touches that stood out, especially the personalized menu, which we truly appreciated. Our waiter was fantastic and incredibly passionate about the wine pairings, which added a lot of charm to the evening. That said, the experience ended up being close to 3 hours, which was a bit longer than we expected. While I understand that traditional French dining often embraces a slower pace, it would have been helpful if that had been communicated upfront. We didn't leave hungry, but we weren't entirely full either. It was an intimate and unique dining experience, but I left feeling slightly underwhelmed given the restaurant's reputation as a classic Omaha staple. Overall, it was enjoyable, but I'm not sure it quite lived up to the high expectations.

Such a romantic atmosphere. Great spot for anniversary celebration. Super dim lighting and amazing food. The menu items change and I love that. Our waiter was so educated on all the menu items.

We chose V Mertz to celebrate our sons upcoming wedding. They did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu and it was worth it. All the food was spectacular and plated with care and diligence. Definitely a place to go for a celebration. The staff was amazing and even slipped us some specially crafted cocktails.

Wow - can't go wrong with the Tasting Menu. Loved the atmosphere and fantastic service. So good, I might return tonight and reorder the exact same dishes!!

A must do for any special occasion or a nice dinner out. In my opinion, reasonably priced for the quality. Would recommend the Nebraska steaks hands down! Service was attentive, took care of my celiac sister and explained what she could and could not have. Personalized menus for my mom's birthday and they were willing to split the bill in a complex way as well. Overall anything here you'll enjoy I'm sure. A top 10 restaurant in any market and a delight for the Omaha area to have. Don't sleep on this classic.

We love trying different places in Omaha, and this was one of our favorite dining experiences thus far! From the drinks (mocktails based on what we were "feeling" that evening), to the food, to the atmosphere, everything was wonderful; however, the service was top-notch! I wish I could remember our server's name - he was phenomenal! We didn't have time to do the tasting menu, as we had a show to get to; but, we can't wait to go back again soon and try it!

We had a lovely (day before) Valentine's dinner at V. Mertz. We requested to sit in the passageway, and you can't beat the ambiance. We split a bottle of pinot noir and started with the bread service. The bread was clearly freshly made and had a delicious crust and soft, fluffy interior. The salted butter on the side was a great addition. I opted for the steak. The roasted butternut squash on the side was not what I pictured, but it was tasty nonetheless. The steak itself was very flavorful, especially when smeared with the peppercorn sauce. My boyfriend had the duck. To be honest, the duck was pretty chewy. However, the rub on the outside was absolutely delicious. It also came with potato gnocchi which may have been the most delicious bite of the whole meal. I just wish it came with a little more. I will say, service was pretty slow and it wasn't that busy. Plan to be here for well over an hour. But you can't beat the location for a romantic dinner!

We were in town visiting family, and they took us to have dinner at V. Mertz. They had said it is the best steak in Omaha, and I think they are absolutely correct! While it was certainly the most expensive steak I have ever ordered, it was the best steak I have ever had in my life thus far! It melted in my mouth like butter. I ordered the fillet, and the waitress told us that it comes with a sauce that only adds to it, and she was right. Everything was just perfect. My husband shared the tomahawk with my step dad, and he also said it was the best steak he has ever had. It is also located in a really cute alley inside a building. The ambience is great. I'm still dreaming about this meal and I can't wait to go back and have it again on a future visit for a special occasion.

Hey, does anyone know if it's ok to wear jeans and a nice shirt, or would we be severely underdressed?

Yes, that's great Exactly what I wore a few months ago when I dined there. Enjoy it!

I was delightfully introduced to this cozy corner by the ever busy Shannon, and she wasn't kidding when said her (Nicola's) Lasagna Mediterranean was to die for. I was gifted a few bites and let me tell you... what ever magic Nicola sprinkles on it, was DELISH. I'm hardly a red sauce fan but ok now.. I see you. Snagged their Tiramisu Martini... and it was just.. perfect. No where near burnt (martinis seem to trick a few up), with that cozy warm Kahlua kick on the back end. A definite will do again in my book! I was feeling a little appetizer-ee this evening so I chose the Bruschetta and Prosciutto e Melone as my meal, and it was plentiful! The sweet (melon) salty (prosciutto) combo, mixed with some tangy asiago was out of the park. I may even dream about this appetizer if I'm completely honest... never mind the pieces of delish bread, topped with finely diced tomatoes. Just everything paired really, really well and it's such a great summer eve meal - peep that patio folks! Not pictured, was a few bites of their Lemon dessert that was incredibly light, airy, fresh, the slightest hint of lemon (it won't smack ya in the face) and the best sponge to her cake. A LOT of love is included, and you can tell.

The chicken didn't have any type of seasoning on it and was very bland. The panini shouldn't even be called a panini because it was a sandwich type. The pasta didn't taste like anything neither. For the price the food was very disappointing. Service was also very slow when there was barely people there; they were nice and helpful. Ingredients were fresh too.

A lot of the ingredients are sourced nearby in Nebraska, Iowa, etc., so I'm given the impression that a lot of the stuff there is very fresh. And what we ordered sure tasted that way. We had the tartare, house charcuterie, Morgan ranch wagyu ribeye, and beef cheek from a ranch in Kansas (no longer on the menu, I think the ranch was called Creekstone Farm). The beef cheek was super delicious - melt in da mouth buttery smooth with great flavor. Tasted like bone marrow with a small amount of pot roast beef mixed in. The ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was the best steak I had in Omaha this year and last. We will for sure be visiting again next year.

There were some flavors there I hadn't had before. The salmon was perfectly cooked, crispy exterior but tender within, and the base for the halibut (a chive beurre blanc with vegetables and couscous and lemon) was seasoned perfectly. Those were our favorite parts of the entrees. We really raved about the desserts. The apple gateau comes with a fig leaf ice cream and fig caramel that I'm still thinking about. And the chocolate torte was so thick and rich that every bite was luxurious. I appreciate all the elements in the desserts (cinnamon streusel, ice creams, pepitas, toasted Italian meringue, such a list for two menu items!), it makes them really fun to eat (personal preference). As for ambiance, the restaurant was quiet on a Tuesday. The lighting is low. Service was perfectly professional and informative without lingering. Highly recommend enjoying this restaurant.

First off, the interior is pretty cute, so I will give them that. But the feng shui of the inside was not super conducive to holding a large crowd of people. Random smattering of chairs in different heights and sizes, so it can be too small for a large group and too big for a couple. There were two big shows downtown, along with the CWS people in town, so it was crazy down there. We had a reservation, but when we arrived, they sort of looked around to see if there was a seat for us (what was the purpose of the reservation?). They first were going to seat us at a low set of arm chairs with a coffee table between them. Somewhere you'd like to sit and have a drink, not a full meal over a coffee table. So then they sat us at a gigantic eight-person high top table when there were only two of us - pretty awkward. We weren't really acknowledged for the first ten minutes or so, but as I said, they were very busy. Our server was great, though, once he got to us. We decided on a few things to eat as we ordered our drinks, knowing we were on a time crunch before the show. We started with the "Devils in Disguise" deviled eggs, and those came out pretty fast and were tasty, with a nice egg base and a candied type bacon on top. They were not too big of eggs, too, so not the type you have to unhinge your jaw to eat, which I appreciated. After the deviled eggs, everything slowed down immensely. Food was coming out around us, but not ours. Large groups who came after we had been there a while, and had ordered way more than us obviously, were getting their food before us. Entree-wise, my husband wanted to try the Prime Rib, as it was the special of the evening. But our server let him know that it was cooked a little over, but in his opinion was still good, so my husband took a chance. Well, let me tell you, it was NOT good. Very dry and almost inedible. The jus that came with it did help a tad bit, but not really actually. The potatoes that came on the side of it also were literally inedible. Burnt and oily and hard, we couldn't even chew them. I had two of the Bao Buns, the Bao Chika Wowza and the Shrimply Irresistible. They were each pretty good, but a little on the spendy side for how small they were. We let our server know about my husband's prime rib being gross, and they did offer to make him anything else he wanted, but we did not have time to wait any more (since the first things we ordered took forever to come out), so he declined, and they just took it off the bill. The decor is cute and our server was nice and doing everything he could to help the situation, but overall, we left still hungry to our concert and got takeout elsewhere when we got home.
