I am a neighborhood diner who has been to UVA many times for dinner, lunch, and breakfast. My experience tonight was less than acceptable. While eating our entrees my friend noticed a large bug walking across the table. An acceptable response would have been to apologize and not present us with a check. Instead the maitre d' made excuses and presented us with a check. My friend and I will not be returning. Note: this review doesn't even account for the fact that a large bug was on our table while we were eating, which warrants a call to the health department. read more

We had my bridal shower in UVA's wine cellar this past weekend and it was amazing. Giacomo and his team were so accommodating and lovely to work with and helped us set up. Everyone raved about the food and the cellar was incredibly cozy and easy to decorate for our event. Can't recommend enough! read more

A friend and I had a very nice experience here recently. It was a bit late, but we hadn't had dinner yet. We walked up and were seated right away by a friendly hostess. Our server was excellent as well, and we were never low on water. The service was good from start to finish. It is a cozy spot with candles and rustic decor. A bit tight, but they are popular (especially later in the evening) and often have a fair number of people dining, even early in the week. Don't expect this place to be empty on a random Tuesday, but they will do their best to fit you in! INSALATA DI BARBABIETOLE ($16) This salad came with red beets, goat cheese, fava bean salad with balsamic dressing. This salad was so good, I'm a sucker for beets! ANTIPASTO MISTO ($29) Cured meat platter served with San Daniele prosciutto, Speck Coppa, Mortadella and Sopressata, garnished with cerignola olives,Parmigiano-Reggiano, artichokes cipollini onions and sweet cherry peppers. Definitely different from your typical salad but I felt like the seasoning could be a little stronger. -MEZZELUNE ALLA BOSCAIOLA (mushroom ravioli): Tasty mushroom sauce with meat ravioli. Well seasoned in (meat filling) and outside (sauce). As a huge mushroom lover, this dish definitely hit all the right spots. I just wish they had more pieces. -PETTO D'ANATRA (duck entree): The duck was very tender and appreciated the thyme sauce. Love how it came with sautéed spinach and some potatoes. Good flavors overall. -Brussle sprouts: Also fire!!! I think they deep fry it so the whole thing is super crunchy (not just the outside). -Frose: Pretty solid and strong! As a party of 4 all in the same "bubble," we were able to try a bit of everything. + Bruscetta di ricotta: bread with ricotta and black truffle on it + Grilled calamari: tasty and of perfect texture + Gnocci di Ricotta: pillowy clouds of ricotta and truffle goodness! So heavy, but so enjoyable + Also tried my friends' Pesto, Ravioli with Prosciutto, and Parpardelle. All of the noodles had the perfect al dente chew and were flavored beautifully. The balls were chewy and took 25 minutes to make this. Place wasn't crowed at all at 11:30pm. Fries were limp and saturated with oil. Bartender put my order and she got her dinner before me... cooks had to come out to double check the order. No bread no cheese. The vibe at UVA is A++. It's extremely cozy and inviting. The dim lights and the decorations really made it feel like a great spot to get together. The covered back yard area was decorated to the nines with Christmas decor. I can see why it's a popular spot. We had a party of 8 on a Thursday night and the restaurant was surprisingly crowded. It's also pretty loud since it's so popular. Many people in our party went with the truffle gnocchi (because how could you not?). The mushroom ravioli was alright. The poached salmon was pretty good. WOW! Uva is an absolute dream, and quickly transforming into one of my favorite places on the UES. I'm not normally a huge fan of Italian food, but this is probably one of the best places I've ever been. If you're going to order anything, get the gnocchi di ricotta. This gnocchi is made with a truffle sauce and was legitimately SO GOOD. Most gnocchi I've had in the past tends to be very dense -- but this was textured perfectly and an absolute explosion of flavor. My friend and I also split the mezzelune alla boscaiola, which was quite good as well. I didn't *love* it, but that's just personal preference. This ravioli is stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella, and the sauce that it's cooked in is absolutely divine. Overall, the service is very attentive, and the ambiance makes you feel like you've been transported to Italy. I can see why people line up for Uva -- I certainly would again. read more

We ate half our dinner with our empty trays on the table, and honestly did not care about giving us options, advice or anything when we asked about the dessert menu. Very much felt like we were dining alone. But right around the time we left, the waiters was an entire 180 and treated the party next to us completely different. They gave recommendations and even told them about the soup or meal of the day. We didn't even know there was such a thing. They were way more attentive and it rubbed us the wrong way when we were leaving. Food: The appetizers were the star of the show, the honey toast was amazing, and the calamari was grilled to perfection. I ordered the gnocchi based off of everyones review here, but to be honest..it was so heavy, too creamy and at the end my girlfriend and I just felt like a gnocchi. Three of my cousins and I came to Uva on New Year's Day for lunch. We don't get to see each other often, so were really looking forward to it. Our first choice was closed, our second choice only offered indoor seating, so Uva came to the rescue with outdoor seating in our neighborhood of choice. We ended up staying for over 3 hours, eating, drinking, and enjoying each other's company. Although Uva does not take reservations, my cousin called a little before we arrived and spoke to Cesar who said he would make room for us. The place was not crowded at all, but I still requested the "safest" table - he brought me to a four-seater all the way back in the enclosed heated section on the sidewalk. There was hardly anyone there, we basically had the place to ourselves! Our waitress (Carly) was great - she was attentive, and despite us all arriving at different times, she continuously checked on us in case we were ready to order. We started with the vegetarian antipasto, gorgonzola and pear salad, and mozzarella with prosciutto appetizer. For entrees, we got the truffle gnocchi (so tender and flavorful), papardelle with veal (hearty and satisfying), and the braised short ribs. For drinks, we got wine and topped it off with espresso martinis. And finally for dessert, we split the sponge cake with nutella (the ice cream complemented it so well) and almond tart (my favorite). All were delicious. Note: they do offer a prix-fixe brunch special ( with pancakes, frittatas, brunch cocktails, etc) in case you are craving that. But we were all in for pasta. The staff were all friendly and attentive, constantly coming to check on us and refill our waters. Everyone was fully masked the entire time. Cesar even came to check on us at the end and helped us turn off one of the heaters. It was a bit pricey, but fully worth it, from the quality of our food, to the atmosphere, to the service. Dining here left us... confused? We were so excited to get a nice Saturday brunch and sit in their garden area, however, what transpired next left us shaken. 1. It took the staff over 20 minutes to even ask for our drink order. My friend had to walk up to the bar and ask if our table could be waiting on. We though "okay whatever fine, surely the food will be worth the wait!" 2. The food literally took FOREVER to come out. On the bright side at least we had plenty of time to chat and take care of some personal admin while we waited for 45+ minutes for our food! 3. When our food did finally arrive it was.... disappointing to say the least. I ordered the egg while omelette and it had zero flavor, it was at least edible, which my friend's dish (the fried eggs) was not. Another note: when they finally brought our food out they practically threw it on the table and placed a hot plate directly on my hand... bizarre. 4. Specifics about the food: the fried eggs were so beyond overdone that they were inedible. The ham on the fried eggs was questionable as well and the whole dish had zero seasoning. They also got the order wrong and forgot to put mushrooms on it. The French toast was fine.... If you come here just don't get their brunch food. 5. When my friend sent her food back the waiter took it away without even an apology or an offer to bring something else instead.... Overall we just simply weren't served at all! I could've done something better in my own home. Not worth it, waste of time and money. We're just confused because we had heard great things about this place and were so excited to try! I read so many nice things about this place so thought of giving this a go for brunch on a Saturday. We were immediately seated in their covered patio. The decor is gorgeous. They also have a wine cellar area that is as gorgeous. Plus the outdoor seating is beautiful. Service is also pretty great. We both chose the brunch special which is a brunch dish, a side, and a brunch cocktail-- a sweet deal if you think about it. I had one of their frittatas with the spinach and the Bloody Mary. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. It was extremely ordinary. Nothing good or great about it. The eggs lacked seasoning which is such a disappointing thing. The cocktail was lackluster too :( it's the same for the other co katil the bouleverdier- tasted like a tonic maybe too much campari. Polenta had no seasoning either. Came for the pancakes and was not disappointed. The Italian omelette was decent but the strawberry marscapone pancake was EVERYTHING. I'd come back for the pancake alone. It was fluffy like a skillet/Dutch pancake but with crispy ends and the sweetness of the marscapone with the syrup was 10/10. Im giving UVA a four because the pancake was the only star and everything else was descent but mediocre.
