Updating my review to 2 stars due to the very passive aggressive note from their community manager when I posted my original review. Would be great for the restaurant to take note and take feedback rather than be unnecessarily rude in their follow up communications. Went to Utsav as we heard they were doing Bengali Thali for the Bengali new year celebrations this year. We went in with very high expectations since we typically order take out from utsav and have found that it scratches a particular itch (limited to indo Chinese only though). When we got there we were immediately seated without reservations. However, one of the hosts came up to us and dissuaded us from getting the thali citing a long wait time. Our server though recommended it and we went for one thali and some apps. The apps were okay - puchchka was not what I'm used to and I didn't enjoy it; mutton chop was decent. The thali itself looked good but was supremely disappointing - the ingredients didn't seem fresh and some of the preparation seemed quite watered down. I don't know if that's because they were high on demand for thali? Anyway, overall we weren't huge fans and will likely only order indo Chinese take out in the future, if at all.

Over rated food that no one can eat due to spice level and bad quality served with worst attitude.

Ms. Nandita, we have visited your restaurant couple of times in past and had great time, however, today (July 25) we went back to celebrate two birthdays in our family and had the worst experience we ever had dinning in the US (not only New York). The server (lady) and another staff claiming to be an assistant manager had the wrong attitude for this industry. They killed the entire celebration and instead of apologizing for being rude or trying to make it right, our server kept on making it worst with every interaction. On checking on our breads order in middle of meal we were told that they will come when they are cooked, SERIOUSLY! On the top of worst service , the food was pathetic - the only thing you can taste in it is chilly. Even after specifying to keep it for kids and mild it came out burning hot (super super spicy), none of our kids and adults could eat anything. We had to leave without finishing dinner and yes we paid the full amount. I will continue to spread the word as there are enough restaurants around you that would love to get some extra business and expand with a smile. Never coming back to your restaurant and would highly recommend no one to go there for insult and bad experience overall. I hope you as a owner able to fix these issues at the earliest possible before you loose your business. The cherry on the top is that we are charged for the food that we ordered but never got to our table. Consider this as charity for a soon to close restaurant.

I don't understand the hype behind this restaurant. Yes, it looks beautiful and is in a prime location but that's pretty much where the compliments stop. We ordered the paneer kulcha which was decent in flavor but the size is comical. The manchurian and noodles were actually not too bad (probably the only redeeming part). Although, the manchurian was a little over-salted. The service was horrible and slow. The dude who was our server was not friendly and we had to wait so long to get more water. I will probably never go back as I went here while visiting the city.

they should definitely put a clear direction in the google or website how to get inside of the restaurant due to the construction works. food was great and stuff were attentive. 10/10

Saag Paneer

Overall a nice restaurant in Times Square with incredible service! I came with friends on a Sunday afternoon and found the place very clean and spacious, which is a luxury in this area of NYC! I liked the food, especially the saag paneer. I thought the chicken tikka would have been better with better cuts of chicken; my pieces were mostly gristle. The malai kofta wasn't quite what I was expecting either. Overall, I would come back!

Enjoying a glass of wine in the dining room.

Wow-I stopped by for dinner as I was in town. I have dined in many Indian restaurants. Very much enjoyed my dinner. So flavorful! Friendly service. Next time I am in town - I plan to stop in again :)

Came here for my birthday dinner, and I liked that the restaurant has a Bengali menu. Restaurant is spacious, and the waitstaff is attentive and prompt. The food was delicious! The puchka (pani puri) was reminiscent of my childhood. I enjoyed the kadai paneer and chicken biriyani. I had the mishti doi for dessert, and once again...reminiscent of my childhood. The flavors were wonderful in all the dishes we tried, and the drinks were strong. I'll definitely be back!

A restaurant and event space serving up delicious Indian and Indo-Chinese eats -- half of the space was rented out for a function, but they do a good job separating the dining area from the music. All of the food here was so delicious, my favorites being the Dum Aloo, Paneer and Shrimp Hakka Noodles -- it took a long time to come out, so we were super hungry with a later reservation. Overall tasty, would come back (especially to try some Bengali specials)!

Experience Newly introduced Bengali menu at Utsav It has been curated to accommodate both vegetarian and non-vegetarian palate and has a host of dishes that represent the Bengali cuisine. Recently visited them .. We have tried Nimbu paani Fish fry Jhal Muri Daab Chingri Bhetki Maccher Paturi Kosha Mangsho Cholar dal Aloor Dum Luchi Bhaat Mishti doi Bengali food is a combination of subtle and fiery flavours. There are certain European influences also like the snack food tradition and foods like chops , fish fry and cutlets that are British in origin but are prepared and served in most Bengali households. They have focused on presenting classic dishes of Kolkata in their menu. Try the Jhal Muri ,Fish fry, Bhetki Macher Paturi (fish fillet in a spicy mustard paste steamed in a banana leaf), Daab Chingri (large prawns cooked with mustard in a tender green coconut )and Kosha Mangsho (slow-cooked spicy mutton curry) with some Bengali Alur dum , Cholar dal, Luchi. Don't forget Mishti doi which is a thick and creamy sweet yogurt dessert that's one of my favourite too. If you're in New York City do check out this restaurant. Their Bengali menu aims to give you a taste of indulgence like the jolly Bengalis. They also offer Indo Chinese and regional Indian cuisine.

Utsav is located in Midtown Manhattan near Times Square. The seating was uncomfortably close together for how empty the restaurant was for a Friday evening... Taking pride for its Indo-Chinese and traditional Indian cuisine, the restaurant has a mix of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that cater to all palates. The food at Ustav was flavorful and beautifully presented. The paneer tikka masala was another highlight, with generous chunks of paneer in a tangy, slightly sweet sauce. The biryani packed a punch of spices and flavor while the rice was aromatic. Portions are small considering that traditionally these meals are eaten family style.

Chicken Kali Mirch Kebab, Garlic Naan
Kimberly V.

Utsav was an okay experience. My friend and I went together and ordered the garlic naan and chicken kali mirch and some type of chicken soup. I have to say, this was not the best meal I've had in my NY trip. The chicken was bland without the sauce but even the sauce was meh. The soup was odd tasting. Service was good but a bit slow. Was weirded out when they put us in a room far away, not too sure what that was about. Would I go back? No. Portions were pretty small for the price I was paying. The best item we ordered was the naan and water. The naan was absolutely delicious and just right; not soggy with the seasoning on top but very flavorful and warm.

It was my first time there but I was expecting the menu I saw online, not this new one. I liked how they organized the menu by country/geography to facilitate an understanding of the flavor profiles. I got two of the date & fig-flavored smoked whisky drinks and it was a well made, balanced, and very good. Not cheap at some $25 or something, but middle of Manhattan with some creative ingredients means I guess it is what it is. Servers seemed a bit annoyed to have to deal with us shortly before close as I think they were hoping to usher people out and close down maybe a little early. The unmarked entrance and doorbell immediately set the tone, and once inside it feels like you stepped out of Manhattan and into a dark, old New York cocktail lounge. The velvet seating, curtains, low lighting, and little private nooks make the whole place feel intimate without being gimmicky. That atmosphere is very much intentional. The Chelsea location is the original Raines Law Room and is built around that hidden speakeasy experience. The cocktails were beautifully presented, and I liked that this felt like a place where you could actually sit with friends and have a conversation rather than compete with loud music. We also ordered some meat, cheese, olives, and crackers for the table, which was perfect alongside the drinks without turning the night into a full dinner. What stood out most to me was how cohesive everything felt. The drinks, glassware, lighting, service style, and decor all fit the same mood. It feels refined and special without trying too hard. Pay special attention to the bathroom wall art. Definitely not an inexpensive night out, but for a true New York cocktail bar experience, I thought Raines Law Room was absolutely worth visiting. This would be especially good for a date night or drinks with a small group.

We ordered both the chips and bar nuts to go along with our drinks. And instead of wine, I opted for a cocktail! They have a pretty extensive cocktail menu with all these crazy concoctions. The decor is a homage to the works of Nikola Tesla, which can be seen in the subtle electric theme throughout the space and the naming of the cocktails. The space isn't too large - the bar and stools take up most of the space but they also have some booths/tables. The place looks great. The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. If you take reservations and serve food, a time limit on tables is not a wild concept. Other restaurants figured this out ages ago. Meanwhile the poor host has to break this news to guests over and over, which is not their fault. Change the policy. Thats a policy problem, not a staff problem. The saving grace? The bar. We ended up waiting there FOREVER and the drinks were fab and the bartenders were great. They deserve better than the reservation policy they're working with. Come for the cocktails.
