The bagel game in NYC is among the best in the world and Utopia for many years has been on the forefront of said domination. They managed to get folks to get people out to Whitestone, which most residents (and especially tourists) would agree is not a destination. Overall, this is still an excellent option for one of the best bagels throughout the area. The success they've enjoyed is tremendous. What was once a mom and pop experience is now a full-blown bagel oasis. They now have national recognition, nationwide shipping options, expanded seating that includes indoor and outdoor (#1), and an incredibly robust staff to aid the constant orders from the never-ending lines. The variety for both bagels and cream cheese is extensive. They have such an incredible selection that I think it actually gives folks pause when it comes time to order (#2) but there really is something for everyone. The typical options (onion, wheat, sesame, everything etc) almost pales in comparison the atypical ones (rainbow, prosciutto, red velvet, piña colada, etc). I tend to go for an everything bagel toasted with a new cream cheese each time. A combination that I've always loved is a bagel sandwich with lox, salmon cream cheese, and a dash of capers. The slabs of salmon they have on display look mouthwatering. With popularity comes people and with people comes longer wait times. I've had experiences here where I was sitting around for a while just waiting for a bagel to be toasted, sliced,and served. I also think that with a certain price point there should be a certain level of service, but I haven't always gotten that as of late. Utopia Bagels in Far Away Queens I thought I had already tasted the best from celebrated bagels shops from New York City to as far as Toronto, two cities vying to be the place for THE best bagel in the Eastern Hemisphere. I was wrong -- Two friends raved about it, one of them is NY Ilocano Association President and resident Manong, kabsat Derick Soria Hidalgo. My appetite is easily vulnerable to my curiosity, so a visit is a must at this bagel shop in Bayside, Queens. The Jewish Center one block down was a good sign, given the bagel's Jewish origins. It was 4 pm when I arrived, not the usual time people eat their bagels and an hour before closing, so I wasn't expecting much. But lo and behold! As soon as I entered the air conditioned and well maintained store, I felt like this was paradise for bagels! The bakers were still making full range of different flavored bagels and the line of customers looks like the morning Manhattan bagel shop queue despite being in the middle of a residential area. The enormous menu is witty and playful. There's a "Virginia Wolf", "Grilled Pacino", "The Italian Stallion" sandwiches at prices that would have been double in the city. I ordered my usual egg bagel (I always pick either this or pumpernickel) in everything (means it's covered in sesame, garlic bits, salt and sesame), very toasted and ala Cubano (with rich slices of pork, pickles, Swiss cheese, mustard). For the second one, I picked a classic: cream cheese with generous slices of lox and tomatoes on mini bialys (mini bec I just had lunch). I also sampled their homemade ice cream - so good! For the authentic bagel hunters, forewarning that this isn't the usual heavy and dense kind. The bagels are lighter, have a little fluff and are paired with creative cream cheese variations. These are probably the best bagels you will find in New York! There is pretty much always a line here on the weekend if you come in the morning. Sometimes, the wait can be 20-30 minutes before you get your order. I've had many types of bagels and spread combinations, but my go-to order is always a sesame bagel toasted with lox spread. I ended up here by accicent because I was trying to go to another place, which was closed on Christmas Eve. We came here because the kids were hungry and this was the closest spot. My husband saw this bagel place on Eater so we tried it to see if it was as good as the hype. It is very good but I wouldn't say it's my favorite. A lot of bagels are too salty and these might need a slight touch of salt, I don't taste it at all. We both tried egg spinach cheddar, he on everything and me on an egg bagel. They did a good job with them, and included a good amount of cheddar, egg, and spinach, when many places can be stingy with one or more of the ingredients. We also tried the French toast and blueberry bagels as a kind of dessert and they were good but the seasoning isn't that strong. They might want to consider upping it a bit. We made the trek here to check out their bagel sandwiches, and we ordered: +The Cheech - this contained sausage, egg (scrambled), cheese, avocado, and hashbrowns on a Jalapeno bagel (usually comes with Asiago); we were thinking of getting the salt bagel or a bagel with a saltier topping, as this sandwich was more on the bland side; definitely looked tasty with the melty cheese and such, but the sandwich fell apart easily, and the jalapeno bagel hardly had any kick or jalapeno bits in it +the mini of The Worth It - an Everything bagel with lox, cream cheese (opted for scallion cream cheese), tomatoes, red onions (requested extra), and capers (requested extra); the everything bagel was a little too chewy and didn't seem as fresh as I thought it'd be, noting their reputation; the lox slices were minimal, and the requested extra red onions and the capers weren't honored There was already a line, which seemed promising; the inside is set up kind of a deli/mart, and there was a nice selection of drinks/beverages. Line did move along; you order with one of the available staff, wait off to the side by the deli case, and you'll get an eye-contact by your person that your order is ready to be paid for. No seating inside, but there's a covered seating area by the entrance with a few counter and table seating. Solid bag spot in Queens. Pro tip is to order through Uber Eats so you don't have to wait the lines. Only trade off is that they upcharge all the items if your time is worth the extra cost. I went with the salmon lox bagel with cream cheese on an egg everything bagel. Bagel is chewy and soft with great texture. Classic great NYC bagel so no complaints there. Have been here a couple of times and it's everything I could imagine one wanting out of their local bagel spot. They have an incredible variety of options in terms of bagels, spreads, and add ins. The quality is high and consistent across the items I've ordered. I've only gone on weekend mornings and the line is long, but not outrageous. They have quite a few bagel and spread options I hadn't seen before. A few notable bagel options to try were the prosciutto and pina colada. This is also a great spot to bring someone who is either vegan or vegetarian. They have quite a few tofu cream cheese options. The texture is pretty spot on for other silken tofu products I've had, definitely softer and a little runnier than dairy cream cheese, but still tastes very good. There's also a nice variety of faux meat options. I can't think of any nyc bagel spot that's worth necessarily going out of your way for. This is a great spot if you find yourself in east queens, but I'd by no means recommend someone venturing out from Manhattan or other significant distances just for this bagel spot read more

The Best Bagels I have ever tasted in my entire life!!! Folks this place is addicting, if I lived here I would be eat Utopia everyday. When you come in your greeted by the owners themselves. We got such amazing treatment here the owners asked where we were visiting from we said DC and immediately she told her husband DO WE HAVE A HOT ONE FOR THEM?? and we received a free bagel to taste out the oven. It was the best I have ever had in my entire life, the bagel just had an authentic taste no one can compare to it. Most important is the amazing service here everyone is absolutely professional. I happen to order the country chicken salad on a plain bagel, the chicken salad was super fresh with pieces of cranberries and walnuts. Left me asking for more after my last bite. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. I've come at different times of the day and there is always a line. Must mean they are worth the wait. Good thing is the line moves quick. Lots of parking in front and across the street. We were lucky enough to get parking right in front because we were there so early. Lots of great bagel and cream cheese choices. They should be considered a bakery as well from all the items they offer. The staff is always friendly. The bagels are some of the best I've ever had. They make them here which list places don't do anymore. We got a few bagel sandwiches and mini bagels to take home. The bagels were still warm from when they were made. Great Bagels, Great staff. However, the staff needs to be more attentive to the clientele. I'm not here to put the staff on blast, this is just a little constructive criticism. I hope it reaches someone that can help implement it. There is always a long line in the mornings and during the weekend even more so. The cream cheese spread was the perfect amount and the fish was also sliced just right. I hate a thick piece of salmon, I don't want it to the be the star of the show! Bagels? Check... Utopia? Facts! After a looooooong visit to the Suffolk Cty TVA, my friend and I took the drive to Utopia Bagels to check them out. I'm soooo happy she suggested that we stop in. The place is huge! Behind the counter is where all the magic happens. They have an open space and you're able to see the freshly prepared bagels coming right out of the cook. The giant red mixer is on rotate constantly, and it's a vibe. They have a covered outdoor dining area that is quite spacious. I like that they have this option of dining on site, away from the organized chaos inside. When we first walked in I was immediately overwhelmed. The spreads, the salads, the BAGELS! They have plenty of tofu-based, vegan spreads which is pretty cool. They also have a large variety of regular cream cheese creations, including bacon. The menus are expansive but I'm sure you could customize anything you might want. Pay attention to your place in line because, "Next!", can come out of nowhere. Everyone is pretty cognizant of each other and considerate to make sure they're not skipping the line. Kayla assisted us with our order. We both got The Worth It (mini), which has lox, choice of CC, tomato, red onion and capers on a mini bagel of your choice. We both went with mini pumpernickels. When you first walk-in it can be overwhelming especially for a non-regular. (ie: my friend and I) However, we quickly peeped the flow and found our grove to the rhythm of Utopia. To start everything is made fresh on the premises. Behind the counter you can see the variety of Bagels ready to be served and continuously being made. They have a XXXL life size fire engine red Kitchen Aid stand mixer working it's magic in the prep area. The options seem to be endless; cream cheeses, spreads, salads, pastries, cookies and of course bagels. The expansive menu can make decisions difficult. However I came prepared, at least I thought I did. I knew I wanted to order the Yankee Clipper on an everything bagel, so I did, but I also had to order a Mini Worth It on a pumpernickel bagel (for both of us) as soon as I saw it on the menu. Ok so the bagel and all ingredients were fresh and tasted good but this isn't the city and even then the city is cheaper. And the order guys seemed like he hate me his job no smile or anything . But I guess people gotta be happy with what they get these days now . Not coming back here again. My first prior the pastries weren't good . I guess the publicity got me in here like everyone else . Customer service sometimes is more important then the food. So although the food was great the price and most of all service they just lost a customer. What a nice gem in the middle of nowhere in flushing. I'd be thankful for this spot if I lived in the neighborhood. I ordered the lox with tomatoes, capers, and cream cheese which I believe is also called "was it worth it?" Or "the worth it" something worth lol it was a solid bagel. No complaints. Pretty comparable to the other famous bagel spots in Manhattan. There were tons of employees taking orders, and you can see the action since it's an open style kitchen. First thing you notice are all the delivery orders ready to be delivered. 8/10 I do recommend. Idk if it's worth taking the trip out there though. Sweet if you live or work in the neighborhood, but you can still get better bagels in Manhattan. read more

Utopia is a Queens staple. They just have good bagels. I've basically tried every bagel flavour and every cream cheese flavour at some point. You can't go wrong. My go to order is an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox. My girlfriend's is a poppyseed with regular cream cheese. The service is quick and always on point. It gets crazy here on the weekends, but that's to be expected. They also do order pickups via Uber now and that's been a game changer for us. You just order online and set a pick up time so you can grab your bagels and go. read more

Good bagels and selection but anything else is just overhype. when you ask for any spread they always put way too much. Personally I like to put the spread on myself but when they do it, I could literally remove the spread and put onto three other bagels. Service is way too slow at times. Long lines and slow turnaround makes this place quite mid. Its quite expensive for their lox. read more
