The building is shared with The Upper Crust Catering, which has its own page on Yelp. The first floor of the building is the catering kitchen and the second floor is the event space. This is from the perspective of someone who attended an event there, but wasn't involved with any of the planning or coordination, so I can't speak to that aspect. I enjoyed the feel of the space. It is a building from the 1920s and has a sort of "classic ballroom" type of feeling, classy without being pretentious or trendy. I liked that the restrooms were right off the main dining area and didn't require a long trek to find. It's a good medium-sized space, not tiny but not huge either. There's a little side room where the food is served out of, and an open dance floor space towards the back of the room. At this event, catering was provided by Upper Crust and it was a vegan dinner. The food was flavorful and filling; I enjoyed it despite not being vegetarian or vegan. It was served buffet style and there were a number of options, including quinoa pilaf, pad thai, a potato dish with a vegan roast, watermelon with balsamic dressing, a salad with crispy noodles, and possibly one or two other things that I am forgetting. Instead of cake, they opted to have peanut butter and jelly bars for dessert that had a sort of crumble topping. I think the quinoa was my favorite. Overall, I would recommend the space UNLESS you need a wheelchair accessible venue. Being an older building, it doesn't conform to today's accessibility standards. There's no elevator to the second floor, and the restroom is very tiny and I don't think a wheelchair could fit in there. Also, if you want your event catered, you will need to use Upper Crust since the building is owned by them and they have an exclusive partnership, so it's probably not the best choice if you have your heart set on a different caterer.

In fact, one of the earlier Yelp Elite events took place here, and it was so much fun! The large space makes it flexible and allows different organizations to use every part of the venue. I recently was here for the Seattle Works SWANK Gala and it was amazing! Lots of room for the silent auction and the main room for the dinner and live auction was fantastic. They even had a Twitter wall which was super cool.

They're the cream of the crop when it comes to events in Seattle. They do big-budget, high quality, over the top, awesome events. They do smaller events too but this is your go-to space if you want a customized party for over 1000 people. There's a stage, there's state of the art lighting, white walls with projectors to project movies, images, etc. They even have different sets and packages so you can do soft seating, tables, classrooms, or whatever you could dream up. I've come for large scale cocktail parties, I've come for networking events, and I've come for themed holiday bashes and dance parties. They can truly do it all. The staff appears to be well organized and there's always, always staff easy to find for load-in or questions of any kind. Whenever I see an event promoted and spot that it's being hosted at Fremont Studios, I know it's going to be good.

Rad! When I heard…read moreabout a huge event at the SODO Commerce Building I felt like such a doof. Who? Where? Having driven by it before I never realized it was a) empty and b) available to rent! This HUGE multi-level building is awesome. Old wooden beams inside give us a clue as to what the building looked like before it's massive remodel a few years ago. Covered in dust and severely lacking in electrical outlets - it's not an easy space to host a party in. But it sure is spacious and gorgeous! Each level can fit anywhere from 200-500 people and the entire building could probably host upwards of 1300 guests. It's a very raw space but I'm already brainstorming ideas for the party of the century...hrmm...

Oh, Seattle Design Center...so much potential as a wedding and large event venue. Yet, so poorly…read moremanaged. Let me explain. We had a beautiful wedding at the Seattle Design Center in May 2012--both the ceremony and the reception in the Atrium (the largest room). The venue is gorgeous--ridiculously high ceilings, full of skylights that bring in natural light, neutral tile flooring, a gorgeous grand staircase--part of the second floor balcony. The square footage is enormous and could easily hold 500 people if you wanted to. The BIGGEST PERK of the SDC: you can bring in your own caterer. That, and it's quite reasonably priced compared to other Seattle venues that would hold 200 or more people The biggest downside: the people who are supposed to be helping you plan your wedding in fact know next to nothing about the wedding business--they are managers at Molly's Salads, the daytime food cart! After booking the SDC officially in April 2011 (13 months before our wedding), our SDC "wedding coordinator" changed THREE TIMES. That meant we had to connect with the newbie each and every time to make sure they could accommodate some of our special needs, like having a small religious fire for our ceremony (don't ask). And also confirming (again and again) the rehearsal time and date, as well as where the bridal party would have space for changing and storing stuff. Needless to say, we had to be very proactive in dealing with the SDC and made sure to get everything in writing. They provided very little outside of signing the contract and some tables and chairs. If it had not been for our stellar wedding planners of Blue Ribbon, this event could never have happened. Thus, I am torn--the SDC is a stunning venue, but really needs to focus on event management and hiring people who know what they are doing.

I've booked two fundraising auctions at SDC, and am about to sign a contract on a third. As the…read moreother review mentioned, they had some turnover, but since last Fall there has been one person in charge of booking, Jenifer, and she is GREAT. The rest of their event staff, the people who are on-site managers during the event, are amazing, too: they helped us with everything from weird electrical stuff to dimming the lights for the video portion to moving stacks of chairs over and over as we got the tables set up, and stayed to the bitter end as our worn out staff and volunteers cleaned up (they clean up their own tables and chairs, we rented additional tables and catering-ware which we had to secure for pick up). Both of our events there looked stunning, and our constituents (who have been to many venues over the years) have only given us positive feedback on the move. Plus it's reasonably-priced AND has its own parking lot. I think this is one of the best venues in the city, and I look forward to putting on more events there in the future.

They were incredibly supportive, patient, and easy to work with, always taking the time to answer our many questions and offering thoughtful ideas that made our day even better. Their guidance made the planning process feel smooth and stress-free. The food was delicious, and we received so many compliments from our guests about it. On the day of the event, all the staff were extremely attentive and detail-oriented, making sure everything ran perfectly. Overall, we had an excellent experience and could not be happier with our choice of venue. We highly recommend the World Trade Center for any special event.

My family attended a wedding here. I have no idea how the wedding planning is here, but attending…read moreone was fantastic! Amongst the family attending, we had several food restrictions. We'd made our orders and when the person with the most severe restrictions (dairy, gluten, and soy free) send in her RSVP card, she noted these requirements. We were the first to arrive at the reception of all the guests, since I am one of the few locals attending and I knew how to get around the 'under construction' primary route that both host directions and GPS directions wanted attendees to take. We were warmly greeted. When we mentioned one of our party had dietary restrictions, they already knew and she spoke with the kitchen manager to be sure everything would be good. The staff was excellent in keeping everything on a timely manner. The food was excellent. I abstained from the bar items, but everyone else seemed to enjoy their beverages. Three appetizers were served, a vegetarian spring roll with mint that was really good, a chicken with satay sauce, and a BLT slider. All items were liked by the people who had them. Ours was a plated dinner, with bread on the table (warm with a salty crust - delicious!), starting with a nice salad with a vinaigrette dressing. We had a beef meal with yummy mashed potatoes (my daughter's favorite part of the dish), a crab cake crusted halibut (best fish my husband has had in our year+ out here in Seattle), and the vegetarian ravioli. A lemon sorbet was served to cleanse the palate between salad and entree course. So classy! I've had that before, but I think this is the only time in my adult life I've attended an event with it. There is a balcony outside the 4th floor room and it was very nice to go out there to get a break from the noise. Because of the size of the room, the number of guests (about 60) and the DJ, the room was rather loud. It also had some temperature issues. A couple of us at my table were quite cold, but someone else mentioned it was really warm over by their table. The view is stunning!

(Emily at Abbey Party Rents in Seattle was superb in every way) When I shared my Audio needs she was happy to send me to Bonnie at Avidex Audio Visual Rentals. Bonnie was quick to respond, provided the equipment at a great price and even came to my business the day before the big event to help us set up the equipment so it worked perfectly. That is going above and beyond in our current world where customer service is hard to come by. I will use Bonne and Avidex again anytime I need A/V equipment.

Proline offered a variety of large venue equipment rentals for most of the Puget Sound area. They have a wide selection of audio (speaker systems, mixers, compressors) and video (camera's, lenses, mixers, screens, projectors) equipment and well as staging equipment (truss, motors, mounts). They're mainly a pick up rental warehouse with limited delivery and technical support. They have recently combined with an AV installation company called Avidex to form Avidex AV Rental but still maintain they're South Park location.

Get the SLU Discount Card which will get you discounts, buy one/get one or other perks from participating companies in the neighborhood. You can simply ask the business or look up specials on the discovery center's website. I contacted them and requested 500 of these cards which they shipped to me at no cost. I used them to pass out to all of my staff who work in SLU. Great people work here who are happy to answer any questions that you may have. SLU is known for horrid parking and there isn't any at this location. There are paid lots a couple blocks away.

It's a wharehouse loft feel with a homey twist. If you are looking for a venue for lots of options this one should be high on you list. We had a 100 person wedding there, and Lisa had told us that plugging in our ipod to their system would be sufficient. She turned it on and turned it loud and it seemed perfect, however it was a totally different story with all those people in there. I wish she would have disclosed that their system is really old, because renting speakers would have been an easy and cheap solution. As it was, the speakers kept shorting throughout the entire wedding- about 15-20 times throughout the night. Kind of a bummer. One other thing: Uptown allows you to bring your own booze, but you MUST GET A LIQUOR LICENSE FIRST. It's on the contract, it's clear, but I missed it and that almost sucked. Luckily, it's easy to get, but if the event was starting when the liquor stores were closed, we would have been screwed.
