This USPS location has reached an all time low. The week before Christmas with lines out the door. I waited 45 minutes in line and when I was called forward the clerk asked if I paying with credit or debit. I replied "debit" and she said, "The system is broken, we are taking only cash or checks. Come back with cash." No apology. NOW a sensible manager would ideally post signs on the outer doors advising customers of the issue but NO signs there. NO signs on the counter, NO signs anywhere. The clerk did tell me that they made an "announcement" from time to time for the benefit of customers who are been waiting in line forever. The clerk did turn to the manager who was lounging on the back wall and asked that he post a sign. He smirked and shifted his lounging position. (This is the same useless manager that is always hanging out doing absolutely nothing.) ALL of the holiday packaging was sold out. There was one lone box that had been broken and left in the display. Heaven forbid the manager should restock! He has a nap to take! So I dropped the forty dollars in greeting cards I was going to purchase back in the rack and walked out without them or the four sheets of stamps I had come to buy. I left through the same front door that has been broken and standing open 24 hours a day 7 days a week for at least a year. This post office is a disgrace! ALSO -- the photos of a gleaming facility had to have been taken by an employee after a thorough cleaning which this post office has not seen in MONTHS. The glass doors, the counters, the floors have been perpetually filthy since we have had to start using this post office a year ago BUT they do fall right in line with the never to be repaired broken door! read more

I come here all the time and 9 times out of 10, I'm in and out in less than 3 minutes. The staff is really sweet and attentive and most importantly: PATIENT! They deal with so many different people (kind and unkind) and always remain so very helpful and pleasant. read more

The employees are terrible at communicating and a bit rude... it's a bunch of people of who don't speak English that well just with strong accents and I know that sounds bad on my end but that's not what the main concern is.. I wanted to return a package I had ordered online and she wouldn't take it because it needed to be sealed in a bag that won't rip easily and she told me to put in a plastic bag, so I did and when I come back to attempt to return my package she saw that I had put it in a literal plastic bag because she told me so and she was like "you literally put in a plastic bag" then laughs at me... i'm like "did this bitch not a few minutes ago told me to put it in a plastic bag???" then she made me buy one of the USPS bags and charged me for it... If I could give Zero stars I would. Was told my passport was ready for pickup, so I went to pick it up. I was met with horrible and rude attitudes. I was then told because my parcel didn't have an address it was sent back to Ireland.... I understand it isn't the fault of the workers but the attitude was crazy that I was getting off them. Kevin gave out to me that the embassy never put an address and wouldn't even give me the time of day. Then I proceeded to request a picture of the parcel and found that it did have an address So now I have to wait an additional few weeks to wait for it to be sent back to Ireland for Ireland to send it again. The cherry on top was when I rang customer service they stated that the passport was still in the office. Disgraceful behavior off both ends of the USPS. Your man Kevin is rude and needs to take a class on empathy. I have escalated this with head office but know nothing will be done because I know this isn't the first this has happened and won't be the last! Please I read the reviews before going in thinking Aw no this won't happen to me... AND IT DID. SO PLEASE AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE. Horrible experience. I asked for 2 pieces of scotch tape to hold down my shipping label. The lady told me they do not do that and I could purchase tape. So I took my package to the UPS store. At the UPS store they gladly tapped my package without a charge. I will never come here again and I strongly suggest that everyone else goes to the UPS store to ship your packages. read more

I try to avoid this location at all cost. They lost a package the other week, had issues picking up a package this week.

I'm not a frequenter of the post office in general unless I'm doing something related to getting a passport which thankfully is every 10 years. We had to come and pick up a package that required signature. Unfortunately we got in the wrong line and had to go to the little door, that's like a half door. After we got that sorted out we were good to go and thankfully the line wasn't too long. Each time I've been here whether weekday or weekend this place seems awfully busy and the parking lot is rather small for the volume this place does. read more

Locally, in the Herndon/Sterling (Dranesville/Cascades) area, there are 3 post offices: Elden Street (Herndon), Sterling Blvd (Sterling), and Westlake Dr (Sterling). Of the three, we've consistently had the best experiences at the Westlake Drive post office. With each visit, the US Post Office staff has been friendly, organized, and efficient. For the last two holiday seasons, they have organized the lines of people mailing and shipping cards and gifts. While waiting in line, postal employees walk to each person, ask them the reason for their visit, and provide them with whatever forms or stamps are necessary to expedite their visit. For our last two visits, my wife and I have been mailing gifts overseas (Philippines, Singapore) and mailing cards overseas (Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia). The post office staff were extremely efficient in helping us navigate the joy of US Customs declarations and overseas postage. If there were a way to rank negative stars, this would be the place. Person who answered the phone, John, was very rude and hung up on me. Allegedly only one person, Kevin, can handle missing packages, yet they go missing for hours at a time on "lunch" whenever I tried calling. They have yet to find out where my missing package is; a huge, conspicuous appliance box. Highly unprofessional, grossly incompetent, and severely disorganized. read more

Never knew about this location until I had massage appointments for my back and drove by. Its small but clean and very efficient and my go to location when I need to send mail or boxes/packages. There is a nice drive thru where you can drop off mail on the outside. Inside if you have small packages, there are several self-help machines that are relatively user friendly to non techies. Staff is reasonably pleasant if you need to go to the counter. I hope they don't shut this one down as they look to close more and more offices. Parking is good. I can imagine around holidays that there is an issue but lots of parking in adjacent office locations. read more

I went in this location at around 11, usually if I have a prepaid package I can just drop it off, which is what I was trying to do and one of the ladies (she is Asian) that was there was very rude from the beginning and told me the lines were where she and another post office worker was, in those windows, so I replied to her that I just wanted to drop it off and she straight said "I don't care, the lines start here", usually the workers at this location are very rude but this took me off guard to be honest, that to me shows no courtesy and zero professionalism, so just avoid this location if it has to do with any interaction with the workers, or at least this lady read more

The entire experience at this place was awful. The staff is rude, unwilling to help and overall unprofessional. Not sure why these people are employed. I went for a routine passport renewal, called in advance and was given incorrect information. Was told to wait in front of a closed blue door where you wait not knowing if anyone will answer. After filing out everything the customer service person refused to review that everything was in order. If you have a choice go somewhere else. This place needs to replace all resources and start over or automate everything to remove the weakest link in this entire operation which happens to be the people that work here. read more

Terrible. Out of the past 5 times I've ordered something and it's been delivered by them 4 of those times it was delivered to the wrong apartment, apartment number was correct and clearly stated on the box. One of these times I actually never even received the package, whichever apartment they gave it to kept it. One of the boxes they delivered to the 4th floor, I'm on the 2nd. It was an 80lbs box that I had to carry down to the second floor myself, after having to go on an adventure to find the box in the first place. Every time I order from amazon and see that it's being delivered by USPS I get angry honestly. Because the chances of them giving it to my apartment are so low. read more

The employees: generally quite nice. Especially the folks that have been there for a really long time. Everything else: like jamming yourself in the eye with a pencil dipped in acid. Even with their great extended hours, it's hard to find a time where there aren't more than 20 people in line. They also seem to have a real problem keeping the doors functioning and the self-service kiosk in working order. And they got rid of their package pick-up window, which makes sense because they never answered the bell anyway. And they pulled that bogus deal where they took the clock off the wall so you (supposedly) don't notice how long you're standing in line. read more

I had to come by this office because the signature guarantee paper was left on the floor of my door. Not on the door with the sticky part but on the floor like someone just threw it on the floor. They didn't knock on the door and I know this because my mom was there all day. Really best to avoided. Then I came by the office and everyone is so rude. Update, if I could give 0-star it would be the rating! The customer service is terrible. Staff lack of training. Lack of speed; literally took someone ten+ minutes to locate a box we had to pick up, and then the staff kept on trying to help another staff for another customer with something that clearly needed escalation. So the two of them literally made everyone else wait when trying to solve a problem that should have been escalated/out of the norm. The management their seems to have changed. How happy can one be when needing to ship a few packages at the holidays. Well, with the invention of the self serve postal machines, it has a positive upside. Except....when 1 of 2 machines does not function for postage and stamps. Lines, lines and more lines that were supposed to be alleviated because of the self serve machines. Umm...not to be too much of a complainer....but fix the machine first thing prior to opening the post office for business! On a good side note....if you pre-print labels you can just drop your package off at the counter without waiting in line. I've ordered things from 2 places and they were suppose to have been delivered on the 4th, now one of the tracking numbers states that it has left Sterling and gone to Culpeper! I went by this morning to pick it up in Sterling and they said it wasn't unpacked from the truck yet. My address is in Sterling, so why would they send it to Culpeper? Lines can be long as in any place but they try to speed things up by having someone at the line, getting things done, answering questions, etc. Parking lot is sufficient. I think the only time you'll have to park on the street is during the holidays and I've only done that once in the past 12 years. Just depends what time of the day you go obviously. The lady working behind the blue door is a liar and a bully. I came in asking for my package, which required a signature (I wasn't home when they tried to deliver). I waited 10 minutes in the main line, only to be told I was in the wrong line and had to go to the line behind the blue door. Another ten minutes went by before it was my turn (the guy ahead of me seemed to not be pleased with the service either). When it was my turn, I was asked for the tracking number. I told her I was never given a tracking number, and she seemed to take delight in letting me know she couldn't help me without one before trying to close the door on my face. I held the door open, and begged her to help me. Some really important legal documents were in that package, and I needed them. She asked for my address, and when I told her, she gleefully informed me I was at the wrong post office. She tried closing the door on my face again before I could cut her off and ask her which post office I needed to go to. Finally, an answer. I went to the other place in a panic about not having my required tracking numbers The people at the correct location told me that a tracking number was never required for me to pick up my package- just an I.D. showing my address. That lady was not telling the truth at all, she just wanted to hurry me out of the door! I am thankful I will never have to be a patron of this location ever again. read more

100% agree with Jasmine A.'s assessment. The Indian lady's name is "Ballwinder." Extremely rude, condescending, and unprofessional. Ballwinder should be FIRED. 1) She was late for my passport appointment, then berated me for not coming to the main desk instead of passport window to let her know that I was there. Did not seem to know or care that I WAS ON THE SCHEDULE of appointments and was there 15 minutes early. 2) Required that I show proof of documentation that IS NOT REQUIRED on the State Dept website: Does NOT KNOW WTF she is doing!! 3) Extremely rude throughout interaction, tossed my personal docs/ photos around and back at me. Treated me like I was an inconvenience to her throughout. Threatened that 'something might happen' to my documents or 'maybe I would like to send them (myself)' AFTER everything was signed and PAID in full. 4) Threatened to close the Passport window for the day -early- because 'you don't have what is required' (BUT I DID! ...and she had already signed, stamped, and placed everything in the envelope, charged my credit card, and taken the processing fee.) Just went to mail a letter - tried to use the self service machine, but apparently there is a 1.00 minimum (which is not stated or posted anywhere). My transaction was for .70. Went up to the clerk and she charged me 1.15 - I asked her why and she said that was the cost, I explained that the machine said it was only .70 and she just shrugged her shoulders. As a loyal USPS customer for almost six years, I have experienced the customer service at different post offices in the DC Metro area. Unfortunately, the Westlake Dr. location does not score high in customer satisfaction and friendliness. Some employees are very moody and do not respond to "how are you doing" or "have a nice day" . Sometimes you have a miserable experience and sometimes it goes smoothly. The problem is that I had a battery of questions regarding setting up a business account and there really wasn't much information given to me by the woman at the window. Maybe she was trying to usher me out, or maybe she just didn't know, but I had completed some research online and was completely confused by the information published there. When I use the self-service kiosk (for smaller packages), it usually works well---unless it charges you for a stamp and then doesn't dispense it. Nice little extra profit for USPS. Many of the clerks are okay, and Sharon is wonderful, when she's there. I STRONGLY recommend you avoid the old emaciated white guy with a scraggly beard: he ALWAYS gives me a hard time about something, is abysmally slow, and is just a total jerk. He's so awful to deal with that if I'm next, and he's the next available clerk, I let someone else deal with him. read more

Worst run post office ever. I have the unfortunate pleasure of also being served by this particular post office. The mail arrives late - I suspect sometimes some of the mail just sits in the post office and the employees read the magazines before they are delivered as they come later than anybody else's magazines that I know of. A first class letter mailed from the next town over took 7 business days to be delivered, they blamed the central facility for the delay. Packages are jammed into my small mailbox at my townhome complex, making it impossible to get out without damaging the package and sometimes what's inside because they are too lazy to put by your garage door. If you call to complain they will basically laugh at you because they are federal workers and they don't give a crap. They will also hang up on you. If you inside for any "service" expect long lines (see the Yelp picture) and usually not all the desks manned. Mail is misdelivered constantly too, so I get to meet many of my neighbors! Update 6/1/17: Another crammed package, another damaged mailer, almost damaged fabric this time. They don't care. Wife almost brought into post office. I was surprised by the negative reviews. This place sometimes has long lines, but they move pretty fast. The best part is that there are often employees who come down the line of people to help you decide which method of mailing to use, or direct you to the supplies you need, or direct you to the machine where you can mail it yourself. And today there was an employee at this machine basically doing it for you at lightning speed. I told her was a great service they provide rather than other post offices where you have to wait a long time in a long line and you get to the worker and don't even know how you are supposed to mail an item, what to use to package it, or what the best method for the price is. They have a good system here as long as they keep using it. Thank you! read more
