Since they were almost 20 years old, I bought two new smoke alarms and replaced them. However, the beeping continued so I called the Reston Fire Station and explained what I had done. Thirty minutes later, they showed up and looked at the two smoke alarms and told me they were fine. They asked me if I also had a carbon monoxide alarm. I told them yes but since it was plugged to an outlet and never thought it would need a battery. Come to find out that they do. They replaced the battery and the beeping stopped. I was very grateful.

I asked him who i'd even call for something like this and he had NO CLUE. WHO WORKS AT A FIRE STATION WITH NO CLUE? Ironically, this same dept is at my neighbors house EVERY OTHER WEEKEND so it seems for issues far less than this and what appears to be a repeated false alarm. This guy was clearly a "volunteer" there for clout with no desire to be useful to the community.

I have been a customer for 11 years. In general, the service is good, but they have some real work…read moreto be done. I will summarize the pluses and minuses for you: Plus: 1. Monitoring is professional, and when the alarm goes off, they call you to confirm the issue within minutes. If no one picks up, you will find the police at your front door pretty soon. 2. If you have the warranty service and anything goes wrong, they will come to fix it, and the issue is taken care of in a very professional manner. 3. Field Service staff is very professional, experienced, and courteous. 4. You can add smoke detectors real time monitoring. If there is smoke, they will call the fire department right away. 5. Alarm panel gives you the option to summon the police with a push of a button, and the same thing for the fire department, although I never had to do it. Minuses: 1. I upgraded my system recently to a camera mounted on the door bell. I can hardly hear the bell anymore, but you will hear it clearly on your cell phone. If someone in the house is not the account holder, then they will hardly hear the bell. They came and fixed it once, but still, it is not working properly. Previous bell only fixture used to work well and you can hear the bell from anywhere in the house, which is not the case anymore. 2. Alarm panel is still the old push button panel. Other services give you a digital panel. Here, you have to pay for it. You also cannot see who is on the door from the panel, but can see the person on your cell phone. If you are not the account holder, then you cannot see anything until you actually open the door. 3. Customer service is from M-F within working hours. If you happen to have an issue on a long weekend (or even a regular one) and your system malfunctions, then good luck in waiting until they open next week, and hope that no burglar tries to come into your house while the system is disabled. This has happened to me many times, and is the most draw back of all! I had situations when the system was down for over 5 calendar days until they had an opening to service my system. They also do not offer you service appointments on Saturday! 4. You are offered cameras for monitoring. One camera is on the front door bell as indicated above, which is great (other than the sound issue). It records who pushes the bell and is also motion activated, so this is a great service. However, any other cameras you install anywhere else have 0 motion detection capability, so they can only monitor things real time and do not record any motion automatically like the front door camera. You can still record from them but you have to push a "button" manually to record a clip. This is another major draw back. The salesman who sold me on the idea of the cameras being motion detected never mentioned the handicap about the recording issue of the other cameras. 5. When you renew your service, they lock you into a 5 year contract. I discovered the recent drawbacks after I upgraded my system, and now I am stuck with a mediocre performing system for 5 years!! If I knew all these recent drawbacks, I would not lock myself into a 5 years contract. I am very unhappy about it. This company needs to stop being a dinosaur and needs to upgrade its customer service and service equipment. I regret renewing my service with them! Thank you.

We personally know of three families that lost homes to fire and I personally lost my childhood home in Florida to a fire. With two little ones under the ages of 2.5 we knew we wanted to have a fire sprinkler system installed. We hired Metropolitan to retrofit the house. Of course this process is tedious and not fun for anyone but Victor and his team made the process much more palatable and stress free. They were very responsive (victor always answered texts any day or time of the week), courteous of our home, and extremely efficient. We got plans and permitting within 2 weeks of signing the contract (would've been sooner but we had some issues with architecture and I wanted to meet with a county inspector first). It took his team exactly two weeks to finish the first stage of the retrofit. We literally have over 100 holes in our drywall and his team only hit one wire which they were profusely sorry about (but we had expected more snafus and thankfully that was the only one). Inspection was passed Friday. Now we have to repair all the drywall, paint, and his team will return to put the concealed heads on all and for final inspection. We aren't quite at the finish line yet but am hopeful they will finish this process as well as they began. Update as of April 2017 - we had a few issues at time of inspection because the tech in charge was on vacation (mind you inspection was in between Christmas and New Years) so this was frustrating and we dialed the first inspection but passed the second. Inspector was frustrated they were having me manage and a tech wasn't there for first one. Knocking one star off for this part of the experience...need to follow a project through from start to finish. Also had one minor issue in the basement where a head was leaking but they were very prompt in fixing it. Overall I would definitely recommend this company!

The worst company I have ever done business with. After 13 years I finally cancelled my service and…read moreI am now a happy Comcast customer. Services are constantly down and the help desk is incompetent. In July 2018 some fool keyed my phone number into an inactive phone list and I had no phone or internet service for 13 days. The help desk was horrible. They kept putting the blame on Verizon saying that Verizon was not picking up the repair ticket. Finally after about 9 days I called Verizon myself and magically a tech was sent out the next morning who told me that there was no record of any help ticket being sent by Talk America. I was finally able to get the problem fixed through customer service but that was after not having any service for 13 days and I want to add that we do hot have smartphones so there is no data plan to fall back on and that I am an eBay seller and could not check my auctions. Also we stream everything so we could not use the Fire TV so that meant no television. I should have cancelled then but I stayed on and shortly after that we started to have problems with the phone service; no dial tone, phone will not ring but instead gives a short beep of sound, calls go right to voice mail etc. By the time they dispatched Verizon (at least 5 or more days later) the dial tone had come back on its own. Then about 2 weeks later it happened again which resulted on another tech from Verizon being called out and this time the line was down and he was able to see that the problem was on Cavalier/Windstream/Talk America's end. He called them himself and said they need to send a Talk America tech out which surprisingly they did the next day. The tech confirmed that the problem was in their lines but because it was an intermittent problem (the dial tone decided to come back while he was here) he could not fix it until it was fully broken. Okay...so he left and the next week I lost my DSL service. That was on January 21, 2019 and Talk America/Windstream/Cavalier (whoever they are) told me they were not going to send the tech back out again until January 30th! That was the last straw. We called and scheduled new service with Comcast but we wanted to keep out original phone number so we had to do a third party verification request. I did this on January 29th which was about 2 weeks prior to my shceduled installation date with Comcast on February 9th. On February 8th Talk America informed Comcast that they needed to have 3 to 5 more business days to make the transfer! So we had to be installed with a temporary phone number until they released the original number to Comcast. Five days later when I called for an update they still had not released the number and Comcast had to make a second third party verification request on February 13th. Tired of reading yet? There is more...the number was released on February 16th so today which is February 18th I called Talk America to make sure my service was cancelled and to dispute the $80 bill I just received for services that I was not able to receive only to be informed that I would not be released form my account until Comcast called them and stated that the switch over was complete and successful. They also said that because both I am my husband had told the help desk when they phoned to see if the DSL was working again that we did not need them to send the tech out on the 30th because we were looking for other service options that we would have to pay for that week because they closed out the ticket. I asked the fool I was speaking with on the phone if she was telling me that I should have let the tech come out anyway only to tell him that I did not need him to fix the problem because we were going to change providers and she said yes. So I called Comcast and the woman who was very nice said that she had never heard of such a thing, that once the phone number is transferred the account automatically closes. She said this was a first for her but she called the idiots for me and she was told...it will be turned off in a few days! Even she was frustrated after speaking to the morons in the customer service department. As of right now Talk America has not taken any action and their voice mailbox is still active. I asked the Talk America customer service rep for a corporate number where I could speak to someone about how a customer of 13 years is treated and was told there was no number for corporate...that the customer service department was the highest corporate level I could reach. There is more but by now you should have the picture. Again the worst company I have ever dealt with. If you are thinking about using them DON'T!
