After a couple minutes it was obvious the counter employees had no sense of urgency to be productive and keep the line moving. Then after five minutes a female Asian employee at far end of counter near the entrance doors waved the customer group at the end of the line to come to her for service. And enough said! This is a horrible post office for expecting reasonable customer service. Poor customer service is tolerated and practiced!

This would be a classic example of Zohran Mandami's definition of bureaucratic complacency on the part of the post office. The Merrifield Post Office is beyond disreputable and dysfunctional. The week before Christmas with lines out the door…read more I waited 45 minutes in line and when I was called forward the clerk asked if I paying with credit or debit. I replied "debit" and she said, "The system is broken, we are taking only cash or checks. Come back with cash." No apology. NOW a sensible manager would ideally post signs on the outer doors advising customers of the issue but NO signs there. NO signs on the counter, NO signs anywhere. The clerk did tell me that they made an "announcement" from time to time for the benefit of customers who are been waiting in line forever. The clerk did turn to the manager who was lounging on the back wall and asked that he post a sign. He smirked and shifted his lounging position. (This is the same useless manager that is always hanging out doing absolutely nothing.) ALL of the holiday packaging was sold out. There was one lone box that had been broken and left in the display. Heaven forbid the manager should restock! He has a nap to take! So I dropped the forty dollars in greeting cards I was going to purchase back in the rack and walked out without them or the four sheets of stamps I had come to buy. I left through the same front door that has been broken and standing open 24 hours a day 7 days a week for at least a year. This post office is a disgrace! ALSO -- the photos of a gleaming facility had to have been taken by an employee after a thorough cleaning which this post office has not seen in MONTHS. The glass doors, the counters, the floors have been perpetually filthy since we have had to start using this post office a year ago BUT they do fall right in line with the never to be repaired broken door!

And every response puts their errors on me, blaming me for the forwarding mail problem. All I do is follow their instructions. And get blamed when they don't follow through and put a VACANT sign in my mailbox. I have not VACATED! I have a temporary COA (change of address).!!! Now mail has been returned to senders and they think I no longer live there. Thanks local US postal service for causing a big fat mess in my life.

I stopped in to get some stamps when there was one clerk on duty and 3 passport applicants. One was…read morelate, one was early, and the other one was on time. It was pretty chaotic with customers being ill-prepared and needing a lot of hand-holding (the late one had neither her passport application or a pen and was 30 minutes late when she arrived). Nonetheless, the clerk had a good sense of humor, was professional, empathetic, and honest. She answered one of my passport questions about their passport services and went out of her way to find a form for me, even though I told her I could come back when I was closer to renewing since she was so busy. I was impressed with how well informed she was about passport services that didn't apply to the USPS location and how respectful and calm she was under pressure. I was able to get everything done (lots of stamps and a mailing) with just a brief wait, and the clerk kept everyone content when it got even busier than when I first walked in. Good service should be appreciated, so I decided to leave positive feedback and express my gratitude for a job well done.
