The system is very secure and there are representative signatures for every step along the way. At all points high cost items are supposed to be within a safe unless being transferred to a different safe. I dropped off the package and it was not put into the safe. I asked if they were going to put it into the safe and he said yeah, but it was sitting on the counter. It was clear there was a high priced item inside because I had insured it for $36,000. I left the post office but felt so uncomfortable that I went back a few minutes later, and they couldn't find the package. They eventually found it, it had fallen on the floor, but it had not been put immediately into the safe as it was supposed to. everything worked out OK but I mean, are you kidding me?

The USPS counter staff were pleasant, responsive, helpful. If you're an organized and prepared customer, you should be able to get in & out rather quickly. Please don't get upset with the staff because you haven't done your part. I have never ever seen this post office without a line before...well, other than when the post office was closed. I showed up for passport processing, and even though all staff weren't quite expecting me, they worked efficiently and got me in & out in less than 10 minutes since I had everything ready to go. A line didn't even build up behind me likely because most people were put & about just beginning their holiday shopping. In my 3 years of using this location (PO Box and regular shipping needs), Tim has been the only employee who has consistently provided me and other USPS customers with exceptional service. When I tried to enter, she stopped me in a very aggressive and unfriendly manner. I explained that I didn't realize they were closing at 5:00 PM, but she responded rudely that they were closed. It was around 4:55 PM. I understand that businesses have closing times, but there is no reason to treat customers so aggressively. She could have explained the situation politely instead of making me feel unwelcome. The way I was treated was unnecessary and left me with a very bad impression of this place.
