BLUF: The day after Thanksgiving was the perfect day to go! I was the only one there at one point, and then a couple other people sauntered in. The USPS counter staff were pleasant, responsive, helpful. If you're an organized and prepared customer, you should be able to get in & out rather quickly. Please don't get upset with the staff because you haven't done your part. I have never ever seen this post office without a line before...well, other than when the post office was closed. I showed up for passport processing, and even though all staff weren't quite expecting me, they worked efficiently and got me in & out in less than 10 minutes since I had everything ready to go. A line didn't even build up behind me likely because most people were put & about just beginning their holiday shopping. Many thanks to the staff at the USPS staff at the Lee Hwy/Centreville, VA branch (by Trader Joe's)! You helped me check off a to-do list item that has been sitting idle for a long time! Worst customer service if your getting your passport done here. don't lady is rude and not friendly would go elsewhere

I don't know if the management reads the reviews, but the employees have been amazing the last few months. They seemed to have done a 180 with regard to attention to customer service. One of my bills did not arrive sending it via regular mail with just a stamp on it, and it never was found. That cost me $40 in stop payment and late fees, which was upsetting, and my perfect payment record was ruined. The standards of service at the USPS in general have declined per their public statement that the price of postage was being raised, business days were being cut to Monday - Friday, delivery times would be slower, and delivery is not guaranteed at all anymore unless customers send mail via Priority Service. I used to go out of my way to support the USPS, but no more after that. However, management and staff have been wonderful lately at this location. So, if you have to go to the post office, these people do a pretty good job and are kind. read more

Saturday 0900 Visit - there was a bit of a wait; totaling about 10 minutes. I love going to this location because the staff is always helpful and always keep a cheery smile even when dealing with rude costumers. I have visited multiple times and never had an issue. There is nothing sexy about the Post Office - but this one does a reasonably good job considering how busy it is - it's not the largest in terms of physical size - there are 5 or 6 stations at the counter than can be manned by a Postal Clerk. Most of the time, the line moves fairly quickly. It does amaze me some times as to how unprepared some people are when they arrive - resulting in an inordinately long session with a Postal Clerk. The longest I've ever waited was to mail a number of non-standard envelope sizes for Christmas cards - took about 20 minutes or so to get to the counter. All of the clerks here are familiar - they've all been here for many years! read more

I came here on tax day and the place was busy. One of the employees showed me how to use the automated postage machine to get certified mail, and that saved me a lot of time. I've had previous experiences here where the workers have been very helpful. I've never had to wait in line because there is usually someone there directing people and taking care of small orders. Since it's in a shopping center, there's a lot of parking. The sign isn't very big so it's easy to drive by, but it's tough to miss the line of mail trucks. It's kind of weird to review a post office but this one is pretty good and it deserves some recognition. read more

This post office is always empty, it's great. You don't have to wait in line, just go straight up the counter. The only messy part is the shopping center that is in, is such a mess to get in and out of, but that's not the post offices fault. This is definitely my go to! read more

Brought a small lightweight package that I asked to be delivered internationally via First-Class mail. The employee put it in a $18 Priority Mail envelope despite the fact that I asked for First-Class and argued with me for nearly 5 minutes about how Priority Mail was the "same thing" as First-Class - yeah right!! I've delivered packages internationally via first-class mail for years and wasn't going to fall for that. As long as the package weighs under 13 oz you can send it First Class. Finally after I grilled him he admitted that shipping the package first-class would be cheaper. I just moved on down the line to the employee next to him who shipped it internationally, first-class as I requested (for $4, by the way), without a hassle. Don't get ripped off by this place. Edit: Same incident happened again yesterday. I had a 5 oz envelope that I was trying to deliver internationally. I tell the clerk "I want it shipped FIRST CLASS." Clerk tells me it's $23. I tell him no, that's the price for Priority. He pretends to be surprised and tells me, oh yeah, it's $12. I tell him no, that's the price for a first class package and that this is a first class large envelope, which costs $6 according to the USPS site online. He proceeds to argue and argue and argue with me. I just paid for the damn thing, now I'm filing a complaint. Not sure if they are intentionally trying to rip people off or if the staff is just ignorant and uninformed, but I'm inclined to think it's the former. read more

This is the neighborhood post office in the area where I currently reside. I had a change of address done and despite of the start date no mails had been delivered. I turned to this post office for clarification and help as to what was going on. They referred me to the manager who didn't want to be bothered at all. He said he would give me a call and that was 7 days ago. Extremely poor customer service. No sense of ownership or responsibility whatsoever. No assistance rendered. read more

To me, the mark of a good post office branch is efficiency and competence. The postal clerks who work at this branch are all familiar faces; I've seen the same people time and time again over the 7+ years I've lived in Centerville, so the fact that they are all long tenured clerks bodes well for competence and efficiency. I've had transactions with all of them and they are all good, fast, and do their jobs well from my perspective. This means not only are my transactions quick, but the line moves quickly. The only exception is when some people are not prepared and hold the line up for everyone, but that's hardly the fault of the people at the branch. Despite my inability to find any glaring fault with the clerks and management of this branch, it is still the post office after all. And I have to deduct a star for that. The I.T. is horrible. You can't renew your post office box online for example. Why exactly is that? It's frustrating when I am sometimes out of town for more than a month at a time and can't always be in town when my rental box expires. What a headache. I had to go to this post office today before the airport to ship out my speakers and DVD player and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, this post office looks nothing like the one by Union Station, but what do you expect for VA suburbs? The service here was excellent though and the lady helping me was very nice, informative, helpful, patient and speedy the whole time I was there. I really appreciated that she merely helped me without even the hint of attitude or annoyance about it as you sometimes get from customer service experiences. We got a new postal carrier in June 2018. Our mail started coming much earlier. I soon found out why. Just quickly delivering mail, not necessarily to the right house, was more critical than properly delivering mail. I was getting other peoples mail and PACKAGES. And since I got charged a late fee on a bill I never received, I knew some of my mail was not making it to my mailbox. I contacted a supervisor at this PO three times, and also left a note for the postal carrier on misdelivered mail and put it back in my mail box. All to no avail. Here it is December and I'm still getting other peoples mail. Also, the self-mailing kiosk in the lobby is frequently out of service. So much for an efficiently run Government service (??!!). read more

This location is a good post office that provides fairly quick service. It's not a huge location, but they usually have 4 or 5 cashiers working at a time. The workers are always friendly and helpful. The parking lot is shared since the post office is located in a strip mall, so sometimes the parking lot gets a bit crazy. read more

Today I met the most unhelpful postal clerk I have ever encountered. The woman argued with me about a priority mail envelope, was unbelievably rude in her choice of words, and then refused to help me when I asked to just pay whatever rate I needed for priority postage! She had limited English and was extremely aggressive throughout the entire exchange. While it's great that this location offers passport services it would be even better if they didn't make you wait excessively for said services. Once I was finally called in for photo for my passport renewal the process did start to move forward with a faster pace. I recommend them for other services but if you need your passport renewed make sure to allow an hour at a minimum. read more

In all my years this is the worse Post Office I have ever used. Mail service is terrible. For example, just today, I stayed home from work all day as I expecting a very important package. Did not leave my Apartment. Mail carrier put mail in box at 5:20 PM, and left a notice that nobody was home, and I had to pick the package up. I have a flight tonight and needed this package. Got the mail at 5:30 PM when I saw the notice, stating they tried to deliver and nobody was home. I was sitting four feet from the front door, the carrier out right lied. Notice stated I could pick the package up at the post office, which closes at 5:00 PM. This is NOT an isolated case. NEVER do I have issues with UPS, DHL, or FEDEX. Only the USPS. Called the 800 number and now waiting 29 minutes to talk to a representative. All my years I have NEVER had the service level that I have from the USPS as now in Centreville, VA. This is one incident of four where my mail was held at Post Office for two weeks for now reason, mis-delivered to wrong apartment, lost at the post office, or damaged. I hope the USPS goes bankrupt. read more

The Centreville office is small, friendly and professional. Although this location small, they are also very busy. These folks provide outstanding service in a timely manner. Tim is my mail carrier. I appreciate all he does for the community. I do not get to see Tim very often. I simply know he is taking care of my mail. I rely on Tim and his dedication to the mission. BeFore the snow blizzard, Our mailbox has been broken at the Apartment complex and they have not foxed it. it's been going on 3 weeks without any mail, nut yet we cannot get our mail. people have bills to pay but they haven't gotten the mail to know. the mail man is ver rude and inconsiderate about other people's mail too. he just shoves it in any mail slots and most of the time they do not belong to me. he does not pay attention the the apt number and just puts it wherever he feels is convenient for him. it sucks now since the snow blizzard and now they have not come by once for another week. they should be sued for not getting people's maul to them on time and now they will be paying late fees for their bills not getting to them on a timely manner. how rude!! read more

Beware of this post office. My incident was when I tried to mail a package. I was questioned for the box that I already paid days (maybe weeks) before. The rep told me the box should've been stamped "paid" which it did not. He asked for the receipt of the box to prove that it has been paid! I was treated like a thief! Why would I stole a carton mailing box when I already paid $45 for the freaking parcel! Such a bad customer service! I heard their machine outside broke while I was still resolving this transaction. The supervisor had to be called and when asked, she said it was ok that my box did not get stamped "paid". The supervisor treated me with respect and refunded me the amount of the box. At the end, I was asked to fill out a refund form to include my phone # and my other personal info. So PISSED! They said it's just for formalities. So I was mistreated like a thief, had to fill an extra form for a mistake that I did not commit (not stamping my previous bought box with a "PAID" stamp), and had to spend extra minutes to deal with something that should have been resolved with trust. They should've trusted the customers better and not treat them like thieves!!! The rep should be trained to treat customer with courtesy! No wonder USPS is a failing business. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever encountered. We have a business in Centreville and sometimes leave outgoing mail to be picked up in our mailbox...it NEVER gets picked up. We regularly receive notices saying delivery of incoming mail was attempted...we fill out the form to have it redelivered the next day and it NEVER is. Call post office repeatedly complaining...no one answers the phone or the one time when someone did answer they said the guy who delivers to our area had gone home--it was 2 pm!!! We said that we are just a couple of miles (5 min) from the PO.Isn't there SOMEONE who can deliver it? of course NOT!! I am so sick and tired of this crappy customer service! Do these people even know about their own motto? "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." I seriously doubt it. Most of the people hired at this location were not born in this country and do not understand the culture of the original post office--that it is IMPORTANT to deliver the mail, PROMPTLY!! Update: called the post office to complain and a nice young woman not only found the package but DELIVERED IT PERSONALLY! She said she will talk to the carrier to find out what the problem was. I've lived at an apt complex in Centreville over a year now, and I still get mail for former residents, some of which don't even list the apartment number on the letter, but for some reason it always gets slipped into our mailbox. We always put it in the return box "not at this address" yet it still continues. There was a problem with my delivery yesterday - and I was told on the phone that the mailman didn't deliver it because it was an unfamiliar name, my fiance's, which makes no sense because we are always getting stuff from Amazon - whether it be by UPS or USPS. I called this Centreville USPS office - the gentleman on the phone was alright and said the mailman would deliver my package tomorrow. I tracked it again today - and it said it wouldn't be delivered until Saturday - 5 days from now. Naturally, I called back. The same gentlemen I spoke to yesterday was short with me and said it would be delivered today and hung up quickly. Good customer service is always a must, in my opinion, and thats one of the reasons I am writing this review. I have been to USPS many a times but this worst experience is about a particular post office at Chantilly, VA, 20151 On Sep 23, 2009 at about 05.55 pm I went to USPS Chantilly, VA, 20151 for shipment of a package. While I was waiting for my turn I noticed that the tape adhesive I used for closing the package got damage at one corner. On my turn I asked desk clerk to give me a piece of tape adhesive so that I could stick it on damaged corner. To my surprise the person refused to give me a piece of tape adhesive which could have beeen a 4 inches long and was available at the desk for customer's service. Furthermore, he asked me to buy the same, available at USPS. I called store Manger and briefed him about the behavior of the desk clerk. Store manager looked scary towards the desk clerk and asked his permission to give me a piece of tape adhesive which was of 2 inches long. The attitude and response of the store manager was as if he was scared of his staff, and he himself was never friendly and helpful. The store manager concluded the whole conversation with the remarks "We are not here to correct your packing." What a service never experienced in my 55 years of life. read more

I went to this Post office today and was completely turned off by its service. I was returning parcels with 3 big boxes. I left a small opening in case it asked for inspection. The man in 50s said that I have to buy a tape in its office to seal it. His attitude was arrogant and bossy. The lady came out later said they did have the transparent type to help customer.
