Over the years this has become my go to place for Federal identity verification and other related work requirements. The post office is easy to get to - right off the main roads. There is decent amount of parking and I have been able find a parking spot every time. The staff is friendly as well and prompt is helping me at the time of the appointment. Once every several weeks when in Reston I drop by this office to register documents. I was lucky as I was ahead of a crowd and there was just 1 employee serving customers until she requested back-up. Pleasant however the Sterling location is really the best for me. read more

Smile for the wildlife camera in the tree. Look for the strap going around the tree. Can't miss it. Not a bad post office, generally takes a bit to get things mailed but everything I have mailed has been on time or early. Bin for Ebay items (pre paid) is handy. The machine with the scale doesn't always give postage (printed out and you open a little door to get the postage). Stamps dispensed when nobody is working is a plus. Packing boxes of several sizes available for purchase. Customers are not the best. The girl in front of me today was wearing bedroom slippers. Driving a car in bedroom slippers...I'll wait until she leaves the parking lot. Packing things in line is just a rude thing to do. I'm ready when I get in line and you're still writing the address on the envelope. What's the deal? Regardless their hours are pretty good. Normally 2 of the 3 tellers are working, unlike the DMV when the ratio drops to 3 in 10. Oh yeah, wave to the camera in the tree. read more

So to my surprise, the postman couldn't find a way to get to my residence to deliver a package. How hard can it be if they successfully deliver my mail to the same address and other packages to my door. I also have Informed delivery that shows the package coming. Not COOL!!!! read more

I noticed a lot of poor reviews for this USPS location, so I wanted to note that my experience has been pleasant every time I've visited. The employees are always helpful when I am unsure of which method is the most cost-effective. I recall one time, an employee walked me through the customs form when I was shipping to a DPO address. Stop losing items tendered for delivery. Twice in the past year items tendered for mailing were lost in ONE day and the attitude of the USPS is "too bad but not our problem." Horrible service. If you have something that must get delivered, use UPS or FedEx, or expect it to NOT reach its destination. read more

Horrible customer service. Was told I could not hand cancel my wedding invites after sending hundreds of the extract same invites out from the same post office already! They told me it would be $4 an invite which is absurd. Went to another post office and they gladly accepted them. Untrustworhty and unreliable - They constantly lie about packages being delivered. If you file a claim for missing mail, all they'll do is S-can your investigative requests and dump them into a black hole where nothing ever moves. This is very unfortunately my local post office and they are awful and can't be trusted. I constantly receive BS tracking delivery notifications for packages supposedly being delivered only to NOT have the package delivered as claimed. Sometimes the package shows up a day or so later, and sometimes, not at all - they flat out lie about packages being delivered as a matter of practice. I have a supposed 'investigation' open with these liars for a package that they claim was delivered when I was home when they claim it was delivered - and it's never been delivered - because they lied about that, I'm screwed - I can't get reimbursed or claim any insurance because they lied about it being delivered - this branch can't be trusted to deliver your mail and their tracking updates are full of BS and lies. The absolute worst postal delivery service I've ever encountered anywhere - and I've lived at APO addresses which are notorious for service issues - by comparison, they totally blow this branch away - don't trust these people or their carriers - they lie constantly Today, they claimed to have delivered three packages - they haven't delivered ANY - maybe tomorrow, maybe never - with these liars, who knows when or if anything will ever show up.....and the worst part is, they really don't give a damn. read more

I went to do my kids passports on Saturday and was told no walkins on the weekend but to come during the week. I called to confirm this and the lady said no walkins. I countered that by what the male worker told me and she said ok. So i asked again and she said yes come. I'm starting to think this place is just lazy. All the times I've been here, I keep saying to myself, "This time I'll pick up some Forever stamps while I'm here." And then I see the line, and say, "Screw it, going to pick up my package and get the heck out." Weekends are crazy and depressing because their weekday hours are 8-5 and the only time this branch is open on weekends is for like 6 hours on Saturday. Unfortunate for me since those weekday hours are my working hours, to the minute. The earlier you go the better, but by 11 Saturday the lines are about a dozen deep. The up side is that the change of address booklets are arranged for easy grabbing, drop-off blue boxes outside as expected, and every time I've been there they had a person on the side dedicated to helping people only there to pick up a package. If you get to the front of the line and Sue is about to help you I'd recommend getting back in line. She spoke rudely to everyone in front of me, her coworkers, and myself. I had to get in line 3 separate times to get my PO box application. The first time I waited she practically threw it at me and told me to fill it out "over there". So I did (with help from a very nice gentleman I wish I had gotten his name. ) I got in line the second time, sadly got Sue again, and as I was waiting to show proof of my insurance she had the nerve to say "You need to hurry up", interrupted my response, and then asked to help the person behind me forcing me to the back of the line.... again. I have a smart phone, it's 2016, it takes minimum ten seconds for a screen to load and that is with bad service. She even had the nerve to talk smack about the nice man who helped me fill the form out saying "he didn't know what the hell he was doing" The THIRD time I got in line I was stuck with Sue again, she was processing my application and payment, rolling her eyes at my questions and being condescending with her answers. Which is pretty bold considering she could barely understand how to run my credit card correctly. She told me I must not have any money on my card (... I got paid today, but thanks for the advice sue) and that's why it was working.... handed her a second card and it magically worked...meaning.... she didn't know what she was doing. When I went today, I had to deal with a rude and incompetent staff. She was condescending few days back and had the same attitude today. She kept repeating the same silly question over and over with an attitude and told me it would take 10 days for 3-5 day shipping. She was very accusatory and told me that the address was wrong. Double checked the address and it IS correct. She seemed confused and was unable to use their computer system. I could not trust her, so I took my business elsewhere. I went to Fedex, it was cheaper and I did not have any issue. I was out of there in half the time. For 3-5 day International shipping, the Post Office would have charged $61.50. Fedex charged me $57.55. Some of the staff at the Post Office are nice, but others like the one I had today, not so much. It's like Russian Roulette. Save the headache and go somewhere other than this Post Office if you have a choice. read more

Sooo...yeah. I came in two days after I wrote my initial review and had an even WORSE experience. It's the middle of winter, and we're all bundled up in layers. In addition, I had 328239890324 packages with me, so I had stuff tucked under each arm and bags dangling from my frozen fingers. I get to the counter, and the USPS rep is scanning them in...so far so good, right? Well, I get the final package onto the counter, and I straighten my sweater (since everything was bunched up and riding up from the awkward package carrying - you know how it is). The USPS lady immediately stops what she's doing, and she starts BERATING me for straightening my clothes. WHAT THE WHAAAAAAAAAAAT??? She starts off by telling me that it's "unladylike" for me to straighten my clothes in public (seriously? "unladylike"? SERIOUSLY???). Then she tells me that I'm "disrespectful" for pulling down my sweater and that I'm a "horrible" person. Not wanting a confrontation (because she was only halfway through processing my packages), I politely apologize...and then she proceeds to tell me that I'm a "liar" and that people who straighten their clothes are horrible and lewd (more lewd than people who don't straighten their clothes and flash people?) and how she's going to call the cops next time. Um...WHAT THE WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT??????????????????????? OMG. This was totally crazytown. CRAAAAAAAAAAAAZYTOWN PEOPLE! read more

I give them * because I can't give them no star... I was in line for 5 minutes to get an appointment for passport. After the "manager" came out from his office he didn't greeted me or ask "how can he help me?" He nodded with his head...I asked him to tell me when is the next available appointment. He went back to his office, answered the phone and scheduled someone else ahead of me. Then, came out and "barked at me"..."14th.." I was asking back: "excuse me? What is that mean?" You can come on the 14th." Admittedly, he looked forward to chatting with his friends who were behind me but this is no way to handle customers. Why can't all be civil and courteous? I am glad to see I am not the only one who has experienced poor customer service from the lady named Sue. I have been to the post office 3 times and was unlucky to encounter her twice! The first time I thought maybe she is just having a bad day, being very short and rude.... but no, this is just the way she is. I put a complaint through the USPS website, but that sadly may go nowhere. This lady raised her voice at me for taking out my debit card to get it ready to swipe! She thought I was going to swipe my card before she was done, but I told her that I was just waiting and she replied with a rude "ha!"... Then when we were done, she called the next customer out before I could even put my debit card away in my purse, rushing me out of the way. I refuse to have her "help" me again. read more

I called to check in the morning if it's still there but the lady on the phone was so rude. I've been using the Reston Post Office for a long time; I've mailed many packages overseas, dealing with different customs forms, and different regulations. I find the staff to be remarkably pleasant, helpful and always fully informed. They are also quite efficient. Today my husband and I brought in two very large packages, needing our handcart to get them into the Post Office. Miss Zafirah (I hope I have spelled her name correctly), took care of things very quickly, bringing the packages behind the counter and into the back of the Post Office. We sailed out, and were about to leave the parking lot when we saw Miss Zafirah running to our car with the handcart! Thanks again, Miss Zafirah and Reston Post Office! read more

Thought by picking a random time during the work day I could avoid the craziness that is the holiday shipping scene. NOT! This place was cray cray! So much so that the Operations Manager who runs this location was out in the lobby personally assisting customers. He happened to assist me with one of my packages and I reiterated that this packaged HAD to be there by the next day at all cost. I paid a heck of a lot more than I expected to but it was going to be there by 12noon so fine. You can imagine my dismay when I tracked my package at 11:50 the next day only to find they had accidentally misrouted it to another part of VA instead of shipping it to the state it belonged in. UGH. In the end, my package made it there a day late and my recipient almost missed their flight waiting for it to arrive. I wasted another 30 minutes at USPS getting my refund. I guess I will give them a bit of slack because of the holiday rush...but dangit!! read more

I received a Tracking Number for an extremely critical package being sent to Omaha, Nebraska. When I went to check that number on line today the number brings up a message advising me that I need to arrange "re-delivery" of the package to myself. Package is now effectively lost. read more

This is the closest postal service to my job. Lemme just say, if you're in a hurry DO NOT go here. Or at least don't go at lunch time. In the past there was a ticketing system but they've got rid of that. For the most part the workers are nice and the manager usually comes out during rush hour to assist with people that are merely waiting to get their mails from their box. Nice gesture. He will also ask to see if he's able to help you without you having to stand in line. read more

For the most part, post offices and DMVs are not user-friendly places. This is not my local post office, so I have been here only twice. The first time I stood in line around 4:50pm. A nice little old lady chatted me up, so I didn't mind waiting. The manager and another employee checked with each person in line to see if they could assist. Most post offices do this near closing time to make sure every person is helped and they can get their doors closed on time. The second time I stood in line around 1:45pm on a Sat. The guy at the counter was helpful and friendly. Even though there was a long line and it was near closing time, he did not rush me. He took the time to process my two certified mail requests. We even had a nice conversation about changes I did not know the post office had made. So far, this post office has provided adequate service and the staff I have encountered provided good customer care. read more

This is a great post office if you love wasting your time or enjoy experience akin to going to the DMV and root canals. I use USPS often since I am an ebay seller and frequent a variety of post offices depending on where I am. This is by far the worst one. There is literally NO order in here. There's a stand with various shipping labels/insurance forms where the line would logically form so people are not ready and it's so hard to tell where the line starts/end/who is in it. Then people get EXTREMELY snippy if they feel they've been cut in the line that doesn't really exist. It's just disordered and inefficient. It's mostly just slower than any other post office in the area. I want to particularly say that if you don't have a master's degree in understanding priority shipping boxes be prepared to be mocked by the staff. For example, an older South Asian associate (perhaps manager, he was not in uniform) gave me quite the attitude for mistaking a medium box with a medium flat rate box. He really went out of his way to make me feel stupid and it wasn't really appreciated. My advice: go to the UPS store in South Lakes shopping center nearby. They are super nice, quick and will literally call you if something goes wrong with your package. It is a bit pricier but seriously your experience at this post office will have you begging for alternatives! read more

I was sending a package to an APO address and kept being pushed to upgrade when I didn't want to. There seems to be plenty of parking and they actually check the back of your credit card when you swipe it. read more

Granted I was the first appointment of the day, but she copied all my proof documents for me and explained everything succinctly. The Asian employees here are all exceptionally friendly and helpful. This review pertains to two (2) employees who are the opposite of that: first is an African-American female, approximately 50 years of age. Second is a Caucasian male, approximately 40 years of age named Scott or Sean. I have witnessed both of these employees loudly, rudely and unprofessionally berating customers for, in their words, not being prepared when said customers arrived at their registers. The fact that these incidents occurred on 2 separate days, when only one employee of the 2 was in attendance, leads me to believe there is either a serious training issue here, or--as the attitudes of the remaining employees leads me to believe--these 2 employees are anomalies who need to be terminated. The staff here is very incompetent in keeping an orderly line. Old rich entitled people love to come here and fill out their postage in the middle of the room where there is a place to grab labels and such, if you walk up to the line they act as if they are in line even though they are not ready... this is not how a line at a post office works! You are in line when you are ready to ship and EVERY other USPS goes by this rule... don't know why the incompetent staff can't understand the basic rule of first come first served and not first to grab a spot to fill out their postage. Huge waste of time took 30 min to ship something that should have taken 2 min if I hadn't been rudely cut in line. Also this is common, has happened to me the two times I've been here, won't be back that's for sure. read more

I'm giving this post office 1 star due to: 1-wait time in line and 2-the rudest employee of all post offices I've ever been to. The lady's called Susan or Suzanne and after I had to wait for 25 minutes for her to take care of the astronomical number of 3 customers, she gave me a horrible attitude about the time being just minutes before 5. I am posting my complaints here after years of problems with this post office. From mail going missing and being sent back for being written in Cursive handwriting, to extremely long lines and staff that seem positively bothered by simple requests. My wife had a major issue with a staff member when she applied for her passport as well. The latest two straws that broke the camel's back, both happening in the past two weeks are: #1 : They used a pickup notice from the WRONG POST OFFICE when I needed to sign for a package, sending me all the way down to the Office near Chantilly before coming back up to the correct post office, where they first argued with me about the slip, then did not even apologize for the mistake. #2 : They dropped off a package to my front door for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ADDRESS in a different neighborhood altogether. Then when I tried to call the number to have them re-pick-up the package, the number remains busy, even now after hours, which means that I will be forced to wait some more time tomorrow morning to drop off the package even though it was THEIR MISTAKE it was delivered to me in the first place. I always use the Herndon Post Office when I can help it, because this one is as bad as they come! read more

I spoke to an employee on the phone this morning regarding a lost/undeliverable package. She was rude, condescending about the shipping, delivery process, and proceeded to leave me on hold for 15 minutes before I eventually just hung up. Which, let's face it, means she was searching for a manager to help her, or trying to find out an answer to give me because she had no idea what to do. Ended up figuring out the problem myself, next time I won't bother and will use UPS/FedEx instead. Useless! read more
