I heard him tell the customer before me that priority mail could not be shipped overseas because the USPS was a US government office and wouldn't send mail to other countries -- THAT IS NOT TRUE. I have sent priority mail abroad and received it abroad. Shocking to see such a lack of knowledge and incorrect information being shared. Eventually, I gave up and used the self kiosk station. I love love love the USPS, and it was so disheartening and frustrating to see this service and incorrect knowledge applied. Please, please, address staff training at this location.

I agree that the tape thing is annoying but that's the PO's rule: not the clerks being stingy.. I haven't experienced the rudeness that some reviewers point out. But I have seen customers project their frustration onto the clerks, which just adds to the stress. Instead, why not offer a courteous greeting and ask how they are when you're at the counter? These are hard working people, struggling to support their families and themselves. Treat them them with courtesy.

Five stars for a Post Office?…read more Yes. Do they mess things up? Sure. Are they highly efficient for what they do? Absolutely. Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. Whenever I come to ship something out they're helpful, friendly, and if treated with respect give it back in return. (Though I'd imagine they wouldn't hesitate to put the smack down if you step up. This is East Cambridge after all) The hours are a bit wonky but they open early enough (7:30) that I have plenty of time to stop in before work to pick up packages/stamps/whatever. In this neighborhood I think USPS is the best shipping option. Apparently in a past life East Cambridge was a bit shady so UPS/FEDEX refuse to leave packages at the door. This means a trip out to Somerville ($45 cab ride) or several days in rerouting (UPS sends it through Rhode Island, natch) to get your package. But the Post Office will hold it for you in the convenient office. Works for me! Sadly it seems like the Postal Service is slowly dying. I know many people could care less but it's a part of our history and really, you get a lot for your 42 cents. Until such time they will get my business.

Some people left the line because they became impatient. When I asked her what the cheapest shipping option was, she said "I don't know". She refused to tell me the different shipping options, and picked one that was rather pricey. I asked if she knew when the package would arrive, and once again, she said "we don't know anything about overseas packages". Surely, after paying so much for shipping, there would be tracking included. There is a UPS store a 10 min walk away. You might want to consider going there, or going to a different USPS location.
