On Monday, I tried to send my sister's Xmas presents out of Coddingtown, which was the worst experience at a post office ever. 1 person working, no small or large flat rate boxes, long line and when I get up there, the postal employee didn't help and I didn't know what I was doing; he was condescending and unhelpful. On Tuesday, I go to 2nd street post office and it was the opposite. 3-5 workers, flat rate boxes, they were helpful, cheerful and engaging. The difference between the post offices was night and day like going from purgatory into pleasantville. The line went fast and the employees were so wonderful! THEIVES WORK HERE. In November, 2018, I sold 4 PS4 games on Amazon. I Printed the First Class Parcel labels at home, attached them to the padded envelopes, loaded the envelopes, and dropped them into the First Class mail slot in the lobby on Second St. THE PACKAGES VANISHED. They never arrived at the buyers, and never even showed up as being shipped. Next thing I know, I am getting negative reviews from buyers on Amazon, and have to refund them all. Clearly, a dishonest postal worker must have seen that these parcels were never scanned, and just grabbed them for his/her own profit. I had no recourse except for telling everyone I know my cautionary tale, and writing this review on Yelp. Do not drop anything of value into the lobby mail slot. Quick Saturday trip to the post office I was happy to find parking in the back, the lines were long but staff was friendly and all the windows were open, so it might bike pretty quickly, overall I had a good experience post it has gone up quite a lot especially for international packages. read more

I stopped in this post office frequently when I lived in Santa Rosa, but I've been away for some time so maybe things have changed. My mother and I stopped in here to check her PO Box. They're available pretty much any time and we're usually stopping in during off-hours so the parking lot is convenient and the lobby isn't busy. Maybe if you have to deal with the staff or peak business hours it's a different story, I'm not sure. I do know there is a city parking lot just across the street if you need extra parking and there are a few street parking spaces out in front of the post office too. read more

Sold me the wrong stamps for my business post card mailings, which 250 have been returned for wrong postage. I asked for a roll of post card stamps, apparently I was given only 21 cent stamps, plus, of course the amount is no longer on the stamps, so how is a consumer to know. Of course. The only USPS in a 60-mile radius that offers a self-serve kiosk or that serves customers on a Saturday. I'm wanting to send a box using Priority Service and want to use the self-serve kiosk. I go out of my way before checking into work to mail a box and the message on the kiosk for priority shipping says this, "I'm sorry, I can't do that right now." AARRGH What's up with this county and why can't the postal service provide better services to customers? Do they realize that this is causing people to choose alternate shipping options and that's why USPS is losing revenue? This particular location opens for customer service at 10 and there are already more than a dozen people waiting on line. Give me a break. Might have to use Brown for this. I would like to commend the many men and women who work for the US Postal Service - Many times our carriers arrive late in the evening as routes get delivered by carriers working a second route (on overtime) after finishing their regular routes. If I am outside I always try and have a pleasant word and a thank you for the person who is delivering. The postal service is very under staffed due in part to the low unemployment rate but also because applicants can't pass the test which is really very basic - if you graduated from High School with a "C" average it shouldn't be a problem. My understanding is another problem is people can't pass the drug test - necessary for all Federal Jobs. The starting pay rates are pretty good as they've been raised in recent years. If you need a job why don't you apply - after thirty years the retirement is fabulous! Just remember we pay far less than most countries for our mail delivery and for postage. read more

I was at the second Street post office a month ago. The line went around the block. I was in dire need to pick up medication for an animal that was literally in the dying process. I received a notice that the package had been delivered to my house. It was not there. I drove as fast as I could to wait in line. When I got to the desk I showed her the tracking number in a few minutes later she came out with my package. I asked why they said it was delivered, she said I don't know they probably couldn't find your house. She was dispassionate and cared nothing for the fact that I was literally crying needing the medication to rush my cat to the vet for it to be administered. She asked for my ID Which I had left in the car in my haste. So I ran back to my car to get my ID and when I came back in she was helping someone else, as I stood there and cried she made me wait while an old lady took her time. They must be very unhappy workers at the second Street post office in Santa Rosa. I've never had a good experience there, but this was exceptionally mean spirited as she let me stand there with tears rolling down my face, She cared little about my literally life and death situation. I love our mailman !!! I wish people understood the mail delivery and the actual office itself are different departments.... there's different numbers for both & also that they're only human and can only do so much. Our mail is always delivered rain or shine and I always make sure to thank my mailman for that Their jobs aren't easy as much as people like to think they are and they incredibly understaffed which makes their job WAY harder than it need be. If you think that is easy to work in a place where you know you're understaffed, customers know you're understaffed and you have to deal with hundredths of annoying, complaining, customers all day go on about things you have no control over and people sitting there expecting you; a desk clerk of a government sized company, to fix their issues.... I dread coming here. It's the closest one to my office and on occasion I can't just mail things from work. The majority of the counter staff is dreadful from lackluster apathetic about customer service to down right rude and verging on the the edge of nasty. The only saving grace to this location is the postwoman Lenore who delivers mail out of this location around the downtown area. She is amazing, and friendly. She knows everyones name, and will great you on the street by name, even when she only ever sees you in your office. What a ray of sunshine - I hope management recognizes what an amazing gem of an employee they have in her. read more

I love the Automatic Postal Machine. It accepts packages up to 10 pounds and is 24/7. I always drive here to drop off any mail including letters because my mail literally reaches it's destination domestically 1 or 2 days sooner than when I mail my stuff from my home in the Coffey Park area (that's NW Santa Rosa). I do try to avoid the counter if possible as the lines do tend to go slow, if there is one. read more

Most cities of a decent size have one centrally located P.O. that has nightmare lines all day and a bunch of smaller outlying ones where there's rarely any traffic. This is the Nightmare Lines one for Santa Rosa. In eight years of using it here and there I don't think I've ever seen a line less than 7 or 8 people long, at any time of day, even 2pm on a weekday. They also have one particular clerk who seems to speak little English and WILL screw up your shit unless you watch him like a hawk the entire time. read more

I realize that nothing with regard to the miserable service is going to change based on one bad review. My intention is not to get them to change, it is to warn others away from this particular location or consider alternate methods for sending correspondence. I called at 9:30 am to make an appointment to have a passport application processed. The lady who took the call wasn't rude per say she was just incredibly abrupt and seemed like she had better things to do. She couldn't even be bothered to say "Good Morning" or "Thank you." I was told that in order to make an appointment I had to call another number and they didn't open until 10:00am. At 10:00am I started calling that number with no answer, tried again at 10:30 and again no answer. If you let the line ring too long you hear a loud beep and the call disconnects. At 10:50 I called the main number again and spoke to a different woman and explained no one at the other line was answering. " That's because they don't open until 11:00!! " was the response that I got in a tone that implied I was the idiot for not knowing when they open, not the prior employee I spoke to that explicitly told me they open at 10:00am. So here it is 11:10 and I'm trying the passport line again and big surprise...no answer! If this wasn't a quasi- government run organization they couldn't operate this way. At this point I've decided I'll make the drive to the Clerks Office in Petaluma because they actually answer their phone. Because the City Clerk is an appointed position I have a feeling that more care is taken not to completely piss of their customers. Between email, Fed Ex and UPS I hardly ever have reason to deal with this post office and now after learning that I can deal with my passport issue in Petaluma at the Clerk's office, I don't plan on ever dealing with them again. There seems to be a high concentration of bad attitudes and lack of gratitude for having a job with benefits that many other citizens would surely appreciate and take more seriously. The USPS as a whole lost $12 Billion last year (source: Investorplace.com) they can't afford to lose even one customer over bad service. Maybe someone needs to enlighten them on this point. read more

I really like this location because it has an Automated Postal Center (APC), and I definitely know how to work those things to send a letter or package and bypass the line (it was lonnnnnnnnng!). I didn't have any problems with people being ahead of me using the APC, because sometimes people have trouble and don't know how to use the machine, thus, making your wait equal to that of the regular line (okay, okay, I'm exaggerating, slightly.) Parking here sucks. There's parking on the street, and also parking in their tiny lot, but even then...it just sucks. If it weren't for the APC, I probably (read: definitely) would not have gone here. read more

Here I am again...unfortunately! As I stated in my last review, the customer service at this location is at the bottom of the barrel and is complete trash. Their employee named "Claudia" hung up on me when I asked to file a formal complaint because they have not been forwarding my mail for 1 month since I moved. So my fiancé calls back to get some answers and she tells him to "shut the f*ck up!". He was shocked & appalled. But with my experience with this location, I was not (sadly). He reminded her that she was at work and is representing the USPS. Her response again was "shut the f*ck up!" Then she hung the phone up on him too!!!! Claudia is lucky I have enough restraint to not go to that office in person. I have filed formal complaints against this location & specifically against "Claudia." I hope her rude trash self does get fired.... Maybe they will train their clerks & managers better after they hear from USPS consumer affairs. Forget zero stars.... NEGATIVE STARS!!!!! I've been a customer for 30 years. Today January 11, 2018 I had the worst day it's like the line grew and the customer service representatives were arguing who should take breaks. They had three lines opened with one only taking packages so there I stood for well over 20 minuets and I was first in line. The line grew to 15 people. When one rep noticed I wasn't happy she said they could take me around corner at side door where I'd have to wait 3 in line. I went in to get a new passport after losing mine and they just point to the wall and tell you to fill out that document. But what they don't tell you is that there are documents for a first time passport application and another one for replacement passport applications. I arrived at my appointment only to discover they had given me the wrong one. A waste of time and potentially a critical cost of having to now order a rushed one. At 9 am this morning a mail carrier was flying down 7th Street downtown and ran the red light at Mendocino and 7th. I had to call several times before anyone would pick up the phone. When a woman finally answered, I let her know I was lucky to have seen him speeding down the street so didn't step off the curb or would have been 1/2 way across when he hit the intersection. Her response was, "Thank you, I'll let the mail carrier know." Very ironic to have happened there since the girl who works in the bike shop on that same corner has been out of work several months due to being hit in her vehicle by a mail carrier. read more

I've been trying to reach literally anyone at this Post Office because I'm hoping they didn't lose yet another one of my packages due to not following protocol, but I cannot reach anyone on the phone. I've tried all hours of the day all this week and the phone rings for 10 minutes at a time. I don't know if they're understaffed, unable to find the phone, or just refuse the answer the phone, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated.
