The letter carriers here do a great job getting the mail out. No one really knows what a hard job it can be. They must first sort out a huge box of mail into numerous tiny slots . How they can do it so quickly amazes me. Then once they hit the streets they are pressured to deliver each piece of mail at a very fast pace. There are other staff who hide out watching how quickly the mail is delivered. If you are a new employee and not fast enough in delivering the mail, you will be fired. Not to mention the stress of walking the many miles to deliver mail. And the stress on the body carrying the mail on your shoulders.it is not an easy job at all. read more

I realize my apartment building's mailboxes are old and narrow. But if I don't collect my mail in a timely manner, the delivery person can't be bothered to check and refold my mail to fit in my box. They just shove it in from the top. I have had to re-request documents because the originals were mangled. I give respect when due but these guys are horrible. read more

We drove to this post office for a US passport/in person application, after figuring out that ALL other passport acceptance locations within a 100 mile from our house was booked for the next 60 days. I think I got lucky and someone else canceled. I was bracing for a bad experience because the first time we applied for my kid, we waited an hour at a usps location. Our slot was from noon to 12:15... no one else was there! They honored your appointment, and it was an easy 5 mins to get everything processed. I wish I got the name of the lady that helped us, she was so nice and efficient. This was a solid place to do the passport application submission. read more

I am leaving this comment on behalf of one of my students who was sorely mistreated and on behalf of others in my classroom that have had similar experiences. My student had arrived at the post office with her Spanish speaking family - to which she admitted she was nervous to do because she knew she was responsible for translating for them. As they waited patiently they could see a lady behind the desk roll her eyes. As they approached she spoke sternly to them and my student translated. Long story short the family had made a few mistakes - to which the women who had a box dye job got very short with the family and made them feel very horrible. My student was confused as to why the family that was after them was treated better and thought it was because her English was not good enough. Students and communities members have been treated this way at this location quite often. It is disappointing to know that there is an individual that does not understand or uphold quality customer service. Regardless of the stresses of your job and your life, If your job is customer service you are being held to a certain standard. We are very disappointed as a class and as community members who used to use this post office. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. I always discount rudeness at first in case someone is having a bad day. But the old man at the counter is ALWAYS rude. Worst location. Today I asked if there was cheaper postage for a package and he retorted "NO that's the lowest. You don't mail very often do you?" Actually, I do. I print my own labels at a cheaper price online but today I didn't have time. Disgruntled postal workers are still a thing. I'll be frank... Jim W at the front counter is terrible. I walk in and the guy already has a scow on his face. I remember him from the Post St. location and stopped going there ever since he "helped" me. Now he is spreading his negativity to this location. I feel bad for him because it is obvious he doesn't like working in customer service and yet he puts himself through the daily torture of going to work everyday. Two weeks ago at this post office I put a package with a prepaid label on it in to the package bin at the front counter (there's an opening in the wall that says "packages", you pull the handle and put your packages inside). My package was clearly stolen by an employee because the post office never scanned it, the tracking number doesn't show it was even accepted at the post office and now I'm out $200. read more

Not a good experience with this post office. Many unfavorable issues for past 10 months. Last challenge, had a package scanned in that it was delivered. Went to mailbox, and no package! Attempted several times to contact by phone; no answer. Finally, got through and I was told the carrier was going to go back and check. Most likely my package was put in the wrong box. Never heard another word, or did I ever see my package. Now I have to wait 7 days, before the company will ship out again! Ugh! read more

I'm so tired of USPS. I've had more poor delivery experiences than good. Even when I call and speak to "supervisors". I have to say though that Jorge who answers the line is the most helpful. I don't know if it's even their fault, it might just be the carriers... Don't know, but the system needs an overhaul! I'll NEVER EVER choose USPS voluntarily. Here we go again!! A MONTH LATER and again I'm ordering online with no choice of carriers... This time I get a notice indicating a delivery was tried. When I go to tracking on EBAY, the msg says "no secure location". I was home all day preparing for family coming into town, 2 cars in driveway and no delivery attempt to be heard of. My husband was even outside a good portion of day doing yard work!!! This is really a shout out to the Gilroy Post Office as well. On attempting to make an appointment to turn in our passport applications a couple of weeks ago, I was met with long delays and confusing web appointment applications. I went into my hometown post office in Gilroy to try to schedule an appointment but was told that it had to be done online. Bummer, since no matter what day it said was available, when I tried to secure it, would then tell me it was booked. Frustration! I kind of vented this frustration to the guy behind the counter. He commiserated and then gave me this invaluable tip: his sister works at the Salinas branch and folks can usually walk right in and turn in their paperwork and fees. And what luck! I knew exactly where that branch was; across the street from my old job at The Californian! Perfect! Husband and I hop into the car the following afternoon and make the familiar drive to Salinas with the promise of lunch after. I was starving... Anyway, after finding parking which can be tough downtown, we were surprised to find no line at all. Just one lady in front of us being helped by a very nice gal behind the counter. She was done 3 minutes later and we were able to turn everything in and be done in about 20 minutes (my tummy was grateful)!! Really wish I could remember her name, but the lady behind the counter was awesome!! She was very friendly and personable,and very efficient, reassuring us that we'd filled everything out right. Application fees can be paid with debit card and application fees need to be done with a personal check but fear not if you don't have checks... what's a check???? You can purchase cashier checks for $1.50 from them! As worried as I was about the process, she made short work of it and let us know how we could track the progress of our passports on line. When we left, we thanked her profusely and she said, "It's pretty quiet in here so tell your friends!" So worth the drive to skip the appointment hassle and get great service to boot. Thank you, Gilroy Post Office for the awesome tip. Seeing a customer need and making it happen... London and Paris, here we come! UPDATE..... Just got an email letting me know our passports should arrive tomorrow! Pretty impressive, considering that we went in to apply on 2/28/18 and not even a month later, they're in the mail. read more

I've been visiting this post office a little more recently. There's this one woman I believe her name is Stephanie. I couldn't really see her name tag because she was wearing a cardigan. She was so helpful! I had to ship something internationally but since its military I had to fill out a form so I'd be charged a domestic rate. It was my first time shipping internationally and she answered all my questions, walked me through the paperwork and, told me what box would be best. Now I go in no problem. Knowing what form I need to grab and how to fill it out. I love when she rings me up because she always makes conversation and makes me feel welcome. If I need a passport and I wait in line for 2 hours after to be told that they need copy's of my drivers license? If they offer a passport service why should I as a citizen be running around after rendering my proper documents!? I just don't get this!? What the fees they charge don't include the photo copying of my drivers license? Everyone in line has had similar experiences here! They wouldn't have so many people pissed off if they just take the time to process each citizen. read more

Lady at USPS in Salinas at John Steinbeck was very rude when I dropped off some packages that were already paid for. This lady got a huge attitude. I did nothing wrong and smiled and asked a couple questions and she acted like I was in the wrong place and I did something wrong. I did not deserve to be treated the way I did. This lady needs to be fired. Now I am not sure if my packages are going to get where they are supposed to, one of them is not being tracked like its supposed to be. read more

Why are there no pens at the Package Prep Station across from the Service Window? The employees here don't like when you get to the window with an unprepared package, but put no pens out where they are needed (like banks and other post offices do). The employees here carry on like they are unpaid volunteers who don't receive excellent tax payer subsidized benefits & wages, and are subtly rude/pissed off almost every time I come in here. If you don't have the package prepped (because there are no pens put out), they push you to the side and forget about you even though you are clearly finished writing the address on the package. This place makes a very strong case for privatization, even for those of us who have fought privatization efforts in the past. #PoorlyManaged read more

I can't say that I can give a very fair assessment of the post office given that it wasn't very busy during the time I went in (on a Friday at 3:30) but the service was quick and efficient. I came back to ask for directions to the County Clerk's office and they were still very helpful despite having other customers. (This review is for PASSPORT application service) I'm not sure if I was lucky, or what, but... I drove here today (Tuesday) with my kid all the way from San Jose, because YES, lines for walk-in services in San Jose can start as early as 2am (!!!) for an office that doesn't open till 10am... And you might not be seen anyway, because they take 60 applications only. I just figured I'll chance the 52 miles drive instead. I arrived shortly before 9am, and actually drove past the building twice, unsure if i got to the correct location, because there wasn't a line outside of the building :D We were the first ones in a line. I couldn't believe it. I even went up to one of the clerks in the main window (they open 8:30am) to kind of make sure I'm ok with the paperwork, and that they do photos onside and all... He (I didn't get the name though) looked through all my papers and confirmed we are good to go. Very polite and helpful. So we sat down on a floor and waited.. Post office customers who came and went were looking at us funny :D I'd say they thought I was crazy, but if they only knew about Willow Glen post office horror stories!!! We were still all alone with not one person behind us all the way till 9:52am. That's when a second person showed up. Couple minutes after there was another person. We were seen PROMPTLY at 10am by Pam, or Pat (a lady with black curly hair). She took a photo of my kid, had all the papers checked, and processed in 8 minutes. She even helped me with a document that i had .. ahmmm... "missing." There was a total of 5 people in a line when i was leaving at 10:08am. "Tips:" One guy who was standing behind me said that he called the office yesterday, and clerk told him that Mondays and Fridays are (supposedly) busier for the passport window. Middle of the week is "better." If you are like me, and traveling from the San Jose, or anywhere close, call the Santa Cruz post office as well. That one is meant to be less busy as well. Of course I didn't find THAT out till i got back home today :) Make sure you use BLACK ink only when you are filling out the application form. If you - like me - needed the parent consent form, this one was ok with blue ink. But i guess you are safer just using black on everything. They do accept DEBIT cards for payment option, so that was helpful, too. Good luck!! read more

What a difference distance makes! I've been trying for the last week to get a passport for my daughter; but every place I went to in San Jose was either by appointment (in a month) or full (I even heard a from a guy who started waiting in line at 4 AM). We made the long drive to Salinas, and I can definitely recommend it. We beat the crowds, had a great experience with Pat, and got our passport done in under 10 minutes. If you're smart, you'll do the same. read more

We had had problems with this post office. They keep losing things that we order. They have also failed to notify when we get an item that we have to sign or to big for the box. We tried to explain this to the supervisor but it seems that they don't really care. For example, my wife had order from a company a picture album. The post office got it on 05/25/2013, however, we were never notified. Then on 06/08/2013 my wife went to the front window and of course they had excuses. Like I said, it has happen quiet a few times. There use to be a really polite lady, but she retired. She would tell us to call the supervisor because they had so many complaints about customers not being notified. read more

Got kicked out of the passport line 35 minutes prior to "close", wasted 7 bucks on two day delivery for a letter going to LA that went to Texas instead, which took an additional 8 days for a time sensitive package, not to mention HORRIBLE customer service, and numerous packages and letters that have taken up to a month to deliver, one of which was supposed to go from Salinas to Monterey! Someone tried to get into the community mail box inf front of my house, My lock was damaged, along with three unused slots. After calling the post office and trying to get someone to come out and replace the lock and give us new keys, the lock still hasn't been replaced a week later!!! It's a good thing our mail carrier, Dennis (who is freaking awesome and the only reason there are two stars instead of one) has been helping us out and delivering our mail right to our door, otherwise we wouldn't be getting our mail. Their customer service over the phone is horrible and they don't want to listen. My last call to them, some Hispanic lady, Laticia, I think, answered and said "I'll check to see if the keys are here for your parcel box.". If she had just listened to me when I explained it wasn't a parcel box, it was a community mailbox and the lock hadn't been replaced yet and I was simply asking when it would be replaced, it would have saved a lot of aggravation. So the guy is supposed to be here today between 1:30 and 2 pm. So far, at 1:48, no show. USPS reliable? Don't think so. read more
