As a new business owner, getting a sign made for my business was at the bottom of my very long to-do list. I thought, "I can just order one, it'll be done in a week and we're good." SILLY ME! Not only is it not that simple, I didn't think of the implications of my business sign. The reality is your sign is the first thing current or potential customers see when they approach your business. Of course you do :-) I emailed to get a quote. When the quote came back over what we had budgeted, they generously re-worked a sign to fit within MY budget. As much as I wanted the amazing sign they came up with (always let them do their creative thing), they did not push it. Not once did I feel pressured to take what they offered. They simply reworked it to fit my needs, and as a new business owner I couldn't appreciate that enough. When I purchased my new Miata 5, Monterey Signs was recommended to me as a company which would do a good job of installing stripes on my white car. A Monterey Signs employee named Tony Clayton handled my account, and after I paid a $200.00 deposit, Mr. Clayton lied egregiously to me. He claimed that Monterey Signs did not have an envelope to mail me the 8"x11" color sample of my stripes. Mr. Clayton told me I'd have to come into the shop (then in a difficult-to-navigate construction zone) to pick up the color sample. I rescheduled my day, cutting short a screenplay collaboration session, and drove to the shop. When I arrived, Mr. Clayton handed me the sample. The company's owner was ten feet away. I said, "Hey, Tony, are you still claiming your company can't afford an envelope to have mailed this to me?" Mr. Clayton laughed. "No, I was just trying to save time." I found this to be not only insulting, but ridiculous: Had Mr. Clayton dropped the sample in the mail, it would've arrived at my home (a few miles away) the same day he had me come into his shop. I looked over at the store's owner, and he just stared at me. I have Mr. Clayton's emails, and can supply proof of my account of events. The actual installation, performed by a wizard named Korey, went splendidly. The stripes look great. Korey also told me about special ways to keep the stripes shining good-as-new for years to come. read more
