I use the mailing service here, not bad, quick and out of there. Packages are always delivered on time, it's nearby, convenient.

Absolutely rude and not helpful in anyway. Nothing but problems with this office and it's carriers. The carriers are rude and inconsiderate.

I especially like that any address I've mailed to before is in their system. I just give them the recipient's name and bada boom: there it is! Most recently, my friend left her sun glasses case while visiting. I cruised in with the case and said, "What's the least expensive way to mail this without it being ruined on the way?" The guy behind the counter popped them in a box with some peanuts and away they went! Mon Valley Postal makes sending stuff easy peasy! (They're located on the north facing end of the strip mall, just around the corner from Blockbuster.)

I'm on my third set of owners and the previous 2 were friendly and very much created a community (Moon Valley) atmosphere in the store. Not so with the new owners who took over late last summer. I would now describe the store and owners as cold, unfriendly and definitely not helpful. Last week I attempted to drop off 2 packages to return to the original merchant. Several stores do this (Old Navy, Gap, Natural Life) ...the customer wants to return an item. The customer fills a form on the company website, prints out a receipt, and a mailing label, and is supposed to drop off the return package to a mailing facility. Usually, the returning package needs to be resealed, and the new mailing label taped on. I've been doing this for years at Moon Valley Postal and, in fact, did such a return about 4-6 weeks ago with no problem. Easy-peasy. This time when I dropped off my packages, the employee looked at me like I had just dumped a pile of dog poop on the counter. I was then informed that the packages could not be returned in the manner they were left. Yes...I told the employee that I needed the package to be sealed and the return label taped on. I was informed "We don't do that." When I pointed out that it was no problem on a return that I dropped off previously, I was informed "We don't do that anymore." Hmmm...I wondered why the change in service? Was the employee too busy? When I walked in, there was no one else in the store (in fact, the last couple of times I have been in the store, I was the only customer there.) And the employee was just standing behind the counter. So, I don't think that sealing my packages was really taking them away from a bigger task. Is it a cost issue because I would need them to seal the package and return label on using their mailing tape? How much does a roll of clear mailing tape cost? So, after I was told that they "no longer do that anymore" I scooped up my packages and headed out the door to the UPS store across the street. The employee called out a cheery "Have a Nice Day!" as I left the store. Yea...you too!

I asked about if they had a post office vehicle ornament this year, and was absolutely shamed for it "I've worked for 10 years here and have never seen a mail truck or post office themed" so I showed her the one I bought from this location last year and the year before for my husband. It's in the "on the road collection" to which she responded with ALL the sass "well, we obviously don't have it and I've never seen it". As someone who collects hallmark ornaments and drove 3 hours to come to this store and waited an hour for it to open (which it opened 7 minutes past the time on the door) this experience was so disheartening. Was she busy? No, we were the only customers in the store, but was she running around the store like her mortgage was late? Yes. She stated she called the owner who told her "she's never seen one ever". Like it was her mission during my visit to discredit me. I tried to save the visit by asking if they had lighthouse ornaments. My grandma is who I collected these hallmark ornaments with. But she passed this year and it would be so cute if Hallmark released a lighthouse ornament this year. To which she said " I don't think Hallmark designs the ornaments around your life events". Gross. We left the Barbie ornament and will order online.

One of the employees actually came out into the waiting area and queried those in line personally about whether they were merely picking up or dropping off a package that already had postage, instructing them to report to the far left window. At the far right was a newer employee who is extremely tall and muscular and friendly. As each customer left his window, he apologized for the wait, as there was a long line. But he works very fast, so the wait is not because of him. The female at the far left pickup window was a little strange. She had a big head bandana and crazy eyes. She had no one at her window and wasn't doing anything, nor was she announcing to newly arrived customers that if they only had a pickup or drop off they could come to her window -- other employees seemed to take on that "heavy mantle" FOR her. She only gave confrontational stares to customers in line, like she wanted to jump over the counter and fight with them for looking at her (probably wondering what her job was). The other employees were working a little slower, but not as slow as PAST longtime employees used to (maybe they finally retired). There used to be a middle aged lady with short spiky hair that worked so slow it was almost impossible to tell if she was moving. Just watching her made me feel like I was going into a coma. Maybe she is finally gone. SHE is the one who always SHOULD have apologized for the wait... Dare I say things are improving slightly over there. At least they had 4 active windows going. I'm curious as to what accounts for their sudden new motivation to actually do the jobs for which they are being handsomely paid... I will review both at the same time along with the surrounding area. First, U.S. Post Office itself also known as the "Federal Building-U.S. Post Office" was built in the 1930s and was intentionally designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. I find all of the staff who have helped me at the post office portion of the building on the first floor have been very friendly and helpful though there is often a queue during the day. The line usually goes fast, and the post office area is kept rather clean. When Arizona State University opened the Downtown Phoenix Campus in 2006, ASU took over the upper floor, basement level, and part of the first floor. ASU has the Student Center @ the Post Office on the first floor and then additional offices and conference rooms on all three levels. I have spent a lot of time on the upper floor where the Dean of Students office is as well as offices for Counseling Services, Student Connection & Community, Student Accessibility & Inclusive Learning Services, TRIO programs, ASU Police, Human Resources, and Career Services. On the first floor is the Student Center @ the Post Office (including the Undergraduate Student Government offices for and Changemaker Central) along with Facilities Management. On the basement is a space for ASU clubs and organizations, the Program & Activities Board offices, classrooms, and additional ASU academic services and offices. While the building is open from 8 AM to 9 PM on weekdays when classes are in session and 8 AM to 5 PM during breaks including the Summer. ASU offices are closed during weekends and university holidays. The only negative to the U.S. Post Office building is the challenge with security as there seem to have been a number of situations nearby right outside the north side of the building or even in the Civic Space Park on the south side of the building. Otherwise, the safety within the building is just fine, and the students, faculty, and staff at ASU still frequent the building. With a long history already between the post office itself and now ASU being there, I look forward to seeing what comes up next in the historic building!

There's a little gas station that's closer to me, but the USPS drop off inside didn't have the small priority boxes. This is a pretty large post office. There are tons of P.O. boxes. They did have self-service machine where you can handle most transactions yourself, but I was disappointed that the send package option was not currently working. That's pretty much the only reason I dropped a star. Rich seemed to be the only employee working the counter at the time, but he was quick and got us out in no time. There were 5 of us in line. When it was my turn, he asked the usual questions about the box I was mailing (any liquids perishables, etc.) and then asked if I wanted to purchase a book of stamps. I politely declined but was curious to know how much a single stamp is nowadays (I haven't sent snail mail in a loooooong time)!! He said the current rate is $.78 per stamp and that there's talk about the price hiking up to ninety-something cents in the future. Yikes!!! I remember when they were a quarter each!! My, how times have changed... Anyway, I'd definitely return to this Scottsdale location. I walked in today and found myself behind at least a dozen humans who all had that same "I swear this will be quick" look on their face. And yet? The staff up front.. same guys, every time... were absolute zen masters holding the line together with patience, courtesy, and a level of customer-service stamina I honestly think deserves a medal or at least a parade. This place moved to its current location ages ago (I still call it "the new one," don't judge me), but the energy has stayed the same: friendly, calm, efficient, and somehow unbothered by the fact that we all show up with the most chaotic mail situations imaginable. I walked in with a stack of envelopes, addressed to everyone..., and the gentleman helping me (I ought to know his name by now) didn't so much as double blink. Different recipients, same address? Weird postage situations? Random questions? Not a single sign of irritation. Not even the micro-eye-twitch. Nothing. Professionals. I've had to call, I've had to come in for issues, I've even had the occasional "address forwarding plot twist," but these folks always handle everything with kindness and actual problem-solving skills. Competitors who? I trust my postal guys. Always have. This isn't my assigned post office anymore, but guess what? I'm still loyal. Because when you find a place that treats you right, listens, holds space for your mailing disasters, and sends your chaos into the world with a smile.... you keep coming back. Five stars. Ten if Yelp would let me.
