As difficult as experiences at the post office go, I had such a lovely experience with shipping internationally and picking up my package. It was around 2:30pm when I dropped by on a Friday, and I was one of maybe 5 people (either packaging or shipping) and I was assisted by Michelle. Michelle was very pleasant and smiling through the entire process, as draining as it is to run errands, the people who make them possible to be carried out really deserve some recognition. I've had difficult experiences in the past, but my Friday went well, and Michelle's excellent customer service shined. I like this location because it is wide and spacious, and they're always stocked with priority flat rate boxes. It's been sometime since I've used their pens, and thankfully, they've replaced them with ones that work and write smoothly. What's great about this location is the amount of tables they offer to package your items, and the amount of materials to help make your package special and wrapped beautifully. I've been to other locations that are even HALF the size of this location, and it gets difficult if you're packaging multiple shipments. The best time to go to the post office in my experience, is anywhere after 1pm, but before 5pm (closing). I really appreciated the help I had here, everyone is very well informed, and I always get my questions answered clearly without any confusion- it's probably one of the best things about this location. read more

Really like the architecture for the Milpitas post office building. The round Courtyard with adjoining spaces for the main desk and the Post Office boxes make for an interesting and beautiful layout. Finding the post office was relatively easy. Unfortunately like other post offices of the modern era they were ripped out the after hours lobby postal vending machines preventing purchase of stamps, postcards, envelopes and other paid items after hours. But unlike other post offices this location has kept the shipping materials available in the after hour lobby along with post office box access. Business hours for the Milpitas location are normal for most of post offices in this area. read more

I had to apply for a passport because I couldn't find mine. If your passport was lost or stolen: You must fill out both DS-64 and DS-11 forms in BLACK ink, bring ID, 2 x 2 photo, birth certificate, and money. TIP: Bring your checkbook to avoid cash fees. $110 for US Department of State and $26 for US Postal Service. There are 3 people to help with mailing, but only 1 person to help with passport services. I came around noon and waited for half an hour. Ping helped me. It was my fault I didn't know if I previously had a passport CARD or not (in the past my dad handled this stuff). But she could have been more understanding or patient with me. Instead, she looked at me as if I was stupid... Not digging that at all. TIP#2: Passport hours are from 9:15am-2:15pm. This is merely for the FIRST CLASS mail option at this post office. I want to let everyone knows that this post office is ripping you off if you have a package that weighs between 13 oz to 15.99 oz and are only given the option to ship priority mail and no first class. Per USPS, the first class mail option is available for any package weighing up to 16 oz. USPS has increased the weight for first class mail from 13 oz to 16 oz since January 17, 2016. I went in the post office today wanting to mail a package that weighs 13.3 oz and asked the clerk to check the rate for first class. To my surprise, the first class was not an option and I was advised of priority mail instead. I told her I know for sure that my package is eligible for first class since it weights less than 16 oz so why was I not given the option for first class? The clerk even acknowledged that the first class is indeed good for up to 16 oz. She thinks their computer system was not updated to reflect the change since 2016. So I asked if she could at least tell the supervisor or manager regarding this issue so that they could directly inform the HQ to update because this is a pressing issue and totally unacceptable to me that customers are being deprived of cheaper shipping option and forced to pay more when they didn't have to. She said to me "there is nothing we can do if the system does not reflect to show first class as an option." She was not even wanting to be proactive to try to alert to the supervisor to regarding this issue. Instead she advised me to fill in the survey and contact the online customer service on my own. I sure did. I filled in the survey following the link provided on the receipt, wrote in a complain to USPS online and now writing my discontent with this post office here on yelp so that the rest of you that is intending to mail via first class can see this issue on your own and be aware and file a complain with the post office too. If your package is below 13 oz you will not be aware of this issue but anything in between 13 - 16 oz you will see how you are not given the first class option. The system jumps straight to priority mail. But in reality, first class mail should be good for up to 16 oz. Not just 13 oz. I am just in disbelief NO ONE has noticed this issue for 3.5 years since the new weight change. Imagine how many customers have been cheated and forced to pay unnecessary extra shipping when they did not have to? Also bear in mind, this Milpitas post office is one of the MAIN post office serving this area so how can this kind of issue be happening? If one could create USPS first class label online via Clic-n-Ship, this issue would not have been a problem. USPS online Clic-n-ship does NOT allow anyone to create first class label on their own online so there is really no option for anyone to do this by themselves online and you are forced to go to the post office directly to pay for it instead. The service at this location is terrible. I've only lived in the area for a few months but ship out items on a regular basis and have had one too many rude encounters here. When trying to efficiently mail out my packages, I don't expect much, but polite service would be nice. One employee in particular is extremely aggressive, condescending & impatient. She refuses to help when asked simple questions & also makes snide comments while you're waiting for a receipt. And why is it so hard for a post office to carry a pair of scissors for cutting their own priority tape that they are supposed to provide? Our company moved to Milpitas from Santa Clara in 2016. In Santa Clara the mail always moved smoothly. There have been several instances where mail is not reaching us and mail that I send never makes it or makes it late. I have had several checks over the years that have had to have stop payment because the Post Office FAILED to deliver. $35.00 a pop. PG&E told me that mail service is so bad in Milpitas that it often takes 2 weeks to get mail from Milpitas to Sacramento. That shouldn't be acceptable. I am not sure, each time I come to this post office, I always get the bad attitude of people at the counters. I smile and greet to see if the situation will change :( This lady at the passport is very rude, right away said that "we can only mail your passport application" and refused to verified all my the documents. :( I told her that this is the reason that I came to make sure I have all the documents correctly. the conversation with her is very dull, lacking interest in what you are about to ask for. Lately I am sending more packages than ever (cleaning my clutter and ebaying a lot:) so I am checking the most efficient, faster and with less lanes in the area. This one was the closest to Kaiser Permanente medical offices in Milpitas, so for the sake of coordinating tasks in an efficient manner, I went there after being fried by some due Xrays. I actually found them organized (even the bad reviews). I think there was an initial chaos between the people who go to renew their passports and the ones that go to do normal post stuff. People tend to mix and some don't like being in line. But the service I received was good and prompt. I put myself in the correct line, that maybe makes a difference. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I come here every few weeks to ship out packages, and with the exception of a couple workers who are incredibly nice and considerate, the others have a ton of attitude. I understand that they probably deal with a ton of crap everyday, but if someone's being nice to you, how hard is it to be nice back lol. Also all, and I mean ALL, packages that have been delivered to my parcel locker by a USPS letter carrier has been completely opened the past year or so. 10/10 times I don't care because my purchases don't hold much value, but seriously?! I was at this post office July 5, used priority mail, and my package arrived on time - July 7! I've only been at two post offices, the one in San Jose next to Piedmont Hills High School and this one. This is my first time at the Milpitas location so my rating is pretty good. The line was pretty quick and short at around 2:30 PM in the afternoon on a Monday. I was originally going to mail in a regular box I bought at Walgreens but I saw that flat rate box fit much better and I was sending to the US Coast Guard for my swab so I decided Flat Rate would be much better. That being said, I did bring my own materials: tape (clear and wide) and scissors so I can't account for people who don't bring their own. It's always a good thing to be prepared! The lady at the counter was nice but she seemed to slightly rush me when she was asking me some questions. Overall, it was a pleasant visit but I will update the next time I come back! read more

Accommodating and Friendly staffs! Organized flow of line up, packaging, and passport renewal if there is any. First come first serve for those passport peeps. Go as early as possible if you want to meet the cut off. There are seasons that they have alot of passport customers. However, Our passport was delivered to us soon. The post office Lines go long if it is Monday or Friday, or if came back from Holiday. All or most line has staff to accomodate customers. Liked that they have Clear distinctions of mailing delivery options too. Good parking spots. Love the variety of cards and box/mailing supplies available. read more

It was 5:15 pm on a Friday. 15 minutes after closing. Employees were closing up and had already closed the doors to the registers. I was persistent and kept on knocking on the closed doors because I could hear them . Eventually an employee came out w a lot of expression written on her face but she was more than willing and understanding. Passport Service Arrived here at approx 0550. I was 3rd in line, but the 2 people ahead had multiple applications. Per their posted sign, they give out 40 numbers and will give you an approximate time of how long it will take. Shortly after 0900 an employee came out with a list that you will put your name on and that's how they will call you up to the desk. Beware though because as soon as those doors opened, everyone from behind me tried to cut everyone else waiting up in front. I was number 5. I got called to the desk at 0948. I was finished with everything at 0956. Smooth and easy. Seriously, have everything prepared beforehand and it will all be a breeze. I had a previous passport issued when I was under 16 years old so I had to go in to get it renewed. If you're doing the same as I, this is what you'll need: -Passport (mine was expired) -Copy of passport -Valid ID (driver's license is fine) -Copy of ID (front & back on the same side) -ORIGINAL Marriage Certificate (my last name changed) -1 2x2 photo (they do photos there, but do it before you go so process will be faster) They can make copies there, but keep in mind they charge $2 for EACH copy. I had mine expedited, which will take up to 3 weeks. Fees paid was $185.45 payable to the US Dept of State by CHECK or MONEY ORDER (money order is available there.) +USPS has a $25 fee to process your application (debit, credit, cash, check) Since mine was expedited there was an extra $23.75 shipping charge. I'm not sure what it is for the regular 6-8 week processing. If you plan to go in early and wait, bring a chair and breakfast. read more

This is related to the passport services provided by this post office. One of the few places where you can get a passport without an appt. Passport timing is 915-215 (M-F) They look at 40 applications a day. Applications !! Some people have multiple applications. I came in at 630 am. There were 7-8 people ahead of me. By the time it was 915, there were about 25 or so people. So would have been okay if i had shown up at 900. Met someone who had come a few days before at 700, and still hadn;t made the cut. So can't predict demand. The staff was super courteous and very professional. They needed an extra photocopy. Charged 2$, which is fine. Saved me time and the hassle. Really good service. Great job, Abel St Post Office. Update: Applied May 10. Recd passport on May 26. Did the normal processing not expedited. They claim 6-8 weeks. Just took 2 !!! read more

This review is based on passport services only!! People do your research! Take the advice your given on yelp! Every yelp I read about this service was right on. If your waiting last minute to get a passport blame yourself suck it up get in line and don't complain. I arrived to the Milpitas location at 5:15 AM and there was people already in line by the time 6:30 came around more than half the numbers were probably already taken. The key to getting in/out smoothly is to make sure you have your paperwork filled out along with pictures and copies. If not you will make the wait for others even longer. Ping was very polite and helpful! And was pretty quick to process my application. But then again I was prepared. From the time they opened 9:15 it took all but 1 hour to get to the counter. I was application number 8. IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! SEE BELOW The numbers are NOT based on how many people are in line but on the amount of applications the person is going to process. One person could be there to process 5 plus application which will take up 5 numbers. This location will only give out 40 numbers. Which is 40 applications! Also there is NO such thing as a sign up list people make this up! That list means nothing you will lose your spot if you believe this! They will give out numbers at 9 AM and that's when the USPS worker will come out with a their list and give you a number. Make sure you bring a lounge chair :) read more

Increasingly cluster mailboxes are being used in neighborhoods. The postmaster in our area has decided to not deliver to homes packages that don't fit in the cluster mailbox. This requires that I have to drive to the post office to pick up a package each time it doesn't fit. I have talked with the postmaster and asked where this policy is documented and he refuses to share this. It seems clear that this is an arbitrary policy that this postmaster put in place to improve their metrics. Sadly this postmaster has forgotten that he has customers. If I could opt out of being a USPS customer I would in an instant. I also spoke with the mail delivery carrier and that person apologized for what their leader is making them do. I am very happy with the service given by this Post Office. Today (Sept 22, 2020) I rang around noon regarding a missed Pickup service. The gentleman who answered the phone, maybe the manager, was very efficient and friendly. He assured me that a postman would come around later. One and a half hours later, the postman came to do the pickup! Impressive service! I am very happy with the service rendered by the manager today and also what he did some time ago (in locating a parcel). Many thanks to the efficient manager and the nice and friendly postman. I didn't think I could find a worse post office than Piedmont's, but well... I found it. It's this Milpitas one. A 40 limit on passports every day? Are you KIDDING ME? I came here once at 8:30AM and was one of the "lucky" 40 to get in line first. Then... they told me to come back in three hours. SERIOUSLY? People have work and other commitments. I come back three hours later and proceed to be ignored for nearly 20 minutes despite being the first one in the empty passport line. They then called me over to say my application needed original identification documents. Okay fine... I thought I found them in my car, but proceeded to wait 30 minutes in the same line with one person in front of me. Only one person was working the line, despite two kiosks saying they were dedicated to the passport line. What the actual hell... They again say my documents are not original and tell me to come back the next day... without even giving me a number or anything. I come back the next day at 7:35AM to about 30 people in front of me. At 9AM, I find out that 40 maxed out well before me because the first three families already took up FIFTEEN SLOTS because of all the kids they brought. How is that fair... when parents can just apply for kids all at once? I have to leave the country soon and have a job as well. The guy who worked the line proceeded to add 15 additional people. Then some lady in line started schmoozing him... so she and the person in front of her got in as well. I got cut off with one person in front of me. Are you serious? I get the 40 cut off... but it should be by family. It's ridiculous that people line up nearly 2 hours before, when they see about 20 or so people, then once the line opens, twice as many AND their kids show up. Then favoritism is showed to those who cut the line and schmooze the people working there. I was expecting a package to be delivered by USPS which I did not receive and called them to check the status of the package. A week after the supposed delivery date, I contacted USPS upon the shipper's request, and a male worker said they would open up a case about it. They took down my phone number, told me they would send out someone first thing in the morning the next day to check the mailboxes, and call me once they got any more information. They also said that I can call back in a few days to check on the case. Great, I thought. So far so good. A week and half go by and I still haven't heard back from them, so I call to check on the status. After being placed on hold for ten minutes, I talked to a woman who asked for my tracking number and very quickly after I finished, she said, "you know what, since you said someone took your number down and said they would call you, wait for them to call you," and she ended our call. It's been almost a month since my first contact with USPS and they have not reached out to me on my case, so I called back today. First time I called, a male worker picked up and answered. Soon after I started responding, they hung up. I called again, and a female worker, who sounded very much like the worker from my second call, picked up. I told her my situation, she asked for my address, but before I could tell it to her, she told me to wait and put me on hold. I waited 25 minutes. Finally, a male worker, who sounded very much like the original person who took my very first call, continues the call and tells me that it has been too long to check with the carrier and there is nothing they can do. I ask for a case number, and they say there is none and that the person who took down my information was probably from a general 800 number for USPS, which doesn't make sense because every time I call, the person on the other end always confirms that it is Milpitas USPS. I wish I could give 0 stars and would absolutely love to talk to a Manager that cares. My package was completely mishandled. The box that it was shipped in was damaged, there was actually a large hole in the tape that was keeping the package closed, and the box containing my item was damaged. I am enraged with the careless of the employees of this post office! People ship packages that are delicate and expensive and they dgaf about them. Also, these people are so rude! I know it's the post office so I don't expect excellent customer service but at least show a shred of respect for other people and their items that they are trusting you with. The staff at this office is incompetent and extremely rude. I have had to come here weekly since moving into my apartment, and they are all simply nasty and lazy-a horrible combination. There is always a line out the door whenever I come here. None of them ever smile or even say hello, even after I've said hello to them. I've had multiple times where I have been notified that a package has been delivered either through the tracking # or from the USPS So-called "informed delivery" service. I get there to pick up my mail or packages and somehow they "don't find them" or try to give me some BS excuse as to why they shouldn't have to go back and check again. One of them actually yelled at me for offering my ID as proof of address saying, "I don't need that, I need a piece of mail!" I explained to her that the lady the previous week had specifically told me to bring both my ID and a piece of mail. She said I was lying and that I should just hand her my piece of mail. A different time I had to make a lady go back to look for my packages three different times before she finally found them. Today I get up to the counter and say hello. The lady hardly looks up and just goes, "do you have a package? Because if you don't you need to go wait in that other line over there" and she just points over to some side door without even looking up. I told her that I also need to buy stamps. She just rolls her eyes and tells me that that's fine but when I'm done buying stamps from her I still need to go wait in the other line. I bought the stamps from her and without my prompting, she explained in a snarky tone that she won't go look for my packages because it's too busy so they only have one person doing that right now. I went over to the second line. The guy couldn't find my packages. The same packages the USPS's own tool told me had been delivered. He refused to go look again. While I had been waiting for him to (not) find my packages, I overheard the lady next to me dealing with a customer who clearly wasn't fluent in English. She asked if her package had anything fragile or liquid. They customer didn't understand her. So she said it again louder. The lady shook her head because she didn't understand. "I'M GOING TO NEED A REAL ANSWER FROM YOU-ARE THERE LIQUIDS? IS ANYTHING FRAGILE?! HOW CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS? IM NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER HERE, LADY." She then begrudgingly gives the lady a translation on the screen into her own language which she understood just fine. There was no reason whatsoever for the lady's initial nastiness. She felt it was perfectly fine to humiliate a customer because they didn't speak English. What kind of place allows their employees to act this way towards customers? This review is for the passport services at this location. I have applied at many other locations in the area, and this place was good. They were polite and efficient. Unfortunately, most post offices require an appointment to apply for a passport. It's impossible to get thru to a post office to make the appointment (a whole day wasted!), and once you get through -- they are usually booked up for weeks or even months (in the summer). So what options do you have if you need to travel at a short notice? Thanks to Yelp, I was able to identify a few post offices in the area (south bay) that accept "walk in" applications. There might be others, but I found Willow Glen, Palo Alto and Milpitas. Called Willow Glen (and looked up their yelp review), and it seemed like people line up as early as 3 am. That sounded awful! The reviews for Palo Alto were not great, and some complained that walk ins were accepted on some days, but not always. I called their office, and after waiting on hold for 45 minutes, they said they would take walk ins after June 14th. It might be worth going, but I did not want to take any chances. Based on the reviews, I decided to go to Milpitas. It wound up being a more pleasant and efficient process than I had expected. I got there at 7 am. You were able to wait inside the waiting area of the post office, and did not have to line up outside like at the DMV. There were about 10 people in the line before me at 7 am, so not a crush of people, and I was pretty certain I would be getting a number. The line was peaceful and orderly - people brought folding chairs, laptops and other things to keep busy. The 2 hours passed by pretty smoothly. No bathroom, but there is a Starbucks a couple of blocks away, and I was able to run out (in the car) for a few minutes, folks in line were nice and saved my spot. A lot of people showed up around 8 am. Post office opened at 9 am and they started signing people up. I was assigned #12. Everyone in line got a ticket including a couple of lucky people that came at 9 am. All numbers were handed out by 9:15. They process 35 applications per day, if a family shows up with 4 people it counts as 4 spots. They take about 10 - 15 mins to process each passport, so I was told to come back around between 10 and 10:30. I came in at 10:30 and they were still processing #9. I waited for about 30 mins more. However, once my number was called, they were very smooth, polite and efficient. I had all my paperwork in order and they processed it very quickly. Make sure you have all your documents in order. They accept checks or cashiers checks but not credit or cash, so take your check book along! In any case, total waiting time was about 2.5 hours - but it was pleasant - and it was comfortable to line up in the waiting area of the post office. Take a chair, book and snacks! Lining up at 7 am was a lot better than going at 5 -- or 3 am! I thought it was a reasonably good experience for a last minute passport. read more

The USPS near my place is closed every Saturday that's why I ended up coming here to send something to Texas. Parking is limited. Line moves pretty fast. Staff are efficient but LACK the enthusiasm. Do not expect them to smile because I don't think they were trained to do that....at least for this branch. Someone should tell them that unless you're having a photoshoot, mean mugging ain't a good look, they're much prettier if they smile and it's also great for their facial muscles . I had a package and first of all of course offered me the most expensive shipment method. I asked for the cheapest and I know it wasn't the cheapest. I asked a THIRD time for the least expensive, then gave me the quote. Then she said that taping wasn't good enough. (I have to disagree with that.) To top it off, my shipping did not include a printed label. Essentially I would need to buy a roll of tape, shipping labels, then get back in line. Are you sh*tting me? Give me a break. Well here it is, my review I've been wondering if I should write. If you notice this post office has one of the worst ratings of an establishment it could possible have, let me tell you why. *Ahem* FIRST off, they have THE WORST attitudes I have ever encountered in my life at a customer service based FEDERAL government company. As well as any other company I've ever encountered! Second, because our regular mail lady was out (who we have never had a problem with in the 7 years we've had her) her fill in was scared of our cat (A FREAKIN CAT) this cat mind you, has never once threatened or hurt anyone and runs away from people even myself because she only lets my mom touch her, filed a complaint that the cat chased HIM..... So now they FORCED us to get a PO Box and pay $96 to get this stupid PO Box that we've never needed before because some idiot was scared of our cat for some unknown reason!! AND THIRD!!! Now that we have this STUUUPIIIDDD PO Box I NEVER get my packages ever!! NEVER!!! They have rerouted my packages all over the world EXCEPT the PO Box I paid for!!!Returned to sender even when I triple checked the PO Box address just to make sure it wasn't me making a mistake!!! I even asked one of the workers if they had my package at the facility and if he could check cause it said it was delivered, he lied to my face and said no! I asked to speak to the manager and she went to the back came back 4 minutes later and low and behold my frikin package was in her hands!!!!!!! She said "oh he must have missed it" are you frikin serious!? How many other damn packages have they missed?? This post office is a joke, everyone should be fired and new people should be trained properly in there to actually work for the very nice pay checks I know they get! Cause I know the people who work there now don't appreciate the fact they even have a job!! Disgusted doesn't even come close to feelings I have for this place. Sucks that this is the only postal office here in Milpitas. They really need to work with their employees to not only be nicer but to work a wee bit faster. THEY TAKE THEIR TIME. Also, there was a lady that was yelling at her coworker in the back and they were yelling back and forth at each other...not very professional. and, they need to smile more! :) read more

I've been going to this post office for over 10 years, and each time I try to avoid it. Unfortunately I had to mail something to someone, and the customer service has gotten WORST than before. Every single person there working looked pissed off and hates their lives. They don't even provide TAPE!!! For god's sake, you have BUY tape then and there, so pathetic. Not to mention, even scissors! Are you serious? Everyone here seems lazy and doesn't seem to work fast. I have yet to see a smiling face at that post office. And the funny part is, the staff hasn't changed in the last 10 years I've been going there, yet they look like they hate working there? lol. It's showing on their pathetic customer service, because they need to go to a customer service training class for a month!!!!! read more
