I've had to go in twice over the holiday experience. The first time was around 4:45 granted there were about 10 -15 people in line but its a post office what do you expect? The employees were all very pleasant and worked as fast as they could to get through the line. The second visit was on a saturday around 11am not much of a line. They only had a couple of people working the counter, which is fine since it wasnt super busy. The employees were great. The women in line who were rude and started complaining only after being in line for a couple of minutes not so much. These reviews crack me up. The people in mill valley need a lesson in common courtesy. Telling an employee they should lose their job because management understaffed is highly rude and uncalled for. Treat these employees with respect. If you want to complain an threaten to go to UPS just do it, don't taint everyone else's experience by voicing your opinion no one cares about. I went in at around 9:30 am to cash a money order and was told that they didn't have the cash on hand to do the transaction. This was for less than $500. This wouldn't upset me but for the fact that there are a lot of things that I have to do with that money in a short time and basically I am being told that even though it's a U.S.P.S. money order, my day is shot. I have to wait until they generate the amount of money that I need. What if more people come in with money orders? read more

Very unhelpful attendants. You might as well just do self service for everything unless you want to deal with attitude.

First of all, the price of the post boxes has doubled in the last couple of years, so it may be cheaper to find a private PO Box shop and escape this horrible place. Second, the manager here is a real scary asshole- if you have any criticisms of their service he will loudly shout at you and tell you to leave in front of the other customers- it happened to me. I once overheard him threatening to call the police on a woman who was simply packing and wrapping a pile of items on one of the tables in the PO box area- claiming that she was illegally running a business on government property! I sometimes get oversized packages and many times they can't find them and it may take several days and attempts to get them- apparently they just place packages on the back room floor willy-nilly so it may take 20 minutes or several days of searching to locate it. Also, when you order anything that gets delivered by UPS, it will take 1-2 extra days for them to process it because it gets a lower priority. read more

The post office put my package from Missouri back in a bin to be sent to Missouri -- it's been all over the country. When I contacted customer service an individual from Mill Valley Post Office called me, said mistakes happen, we don't know when your package is coming, stop complaining, and then shouted at me for 2 minutes -- sadly this office is incompetent and rude. read more

We had a passport appointment and arrived a few minute early. The USPS was almost empty aside from the staff who did not seem busy as they were chitchatting, but they did not attempt to help us until the very end of our appointment window even though we arrived on-time. The person who finally did meet with us was a bit power trippy over seemingly small insignificant details with how we stapled our photos and folded our application. I have lived in many areas of California, Washington, and New Mexico and never once had a problem with mail delivery. I moved to Mill Valley in 2016 and I have had nothing but problems with this service. While my first mail deliverer was very good and friendly, my mail was missing when there was a substitute. After moving just blocks away from my first location, I've had nothing but problems with my delivery. The guy signs off on a package as "delivered" but I don't receive it. This has happened about three times. I receive mail that's addressed to different people at totally different addresses. The Manager of this post office doesn't appear to care; I have talked with her on several occasions. Perhaps the postal service department should be privatized. I mailed a package in Mill Valley and it had to go to Santa Maria which is about 200 miles south of Mill Valley. The package was sent to Washington DC and then some place in S Carolina and then to Los Angeles. This took a total of 18 days and my customer who paid for what was in the package got his payment back from Ebay. I had paid $12.00 insurance on the package and the post office refused to honor any claim. Why do I think that idiot Dejoy had something to do with this. read more

Snail mail, indeed! Yesterday's visit to the Mill Valley Post Office felt like a trip to the DMV. I came in to pick up a package at around 2:45pm. The line was practically out the door! Did I arrive at their busiest time of day? Actually, no. The line was so long because there was only one poor employee working behind the counter. I couldn't believe how understaffed the place was. To the lady's credit, she busted her butt to service everyone as fast as she could. But at the end of the day, she's just one person vs. an angry, mail-sending mob. Someone finally asked her why she was all alone, and she replied that one of her co-workers was on lunch break, and the other was assisting someone with Passport photos. Long story short - it took me 25 minutes to pick up one small package. In that time, I got to wait in line with some the most impatient, frustrated, cell-phone gabbing folks this side of Marin. I couldn't tell ya what I despised more - the long wait, or the mean, entitled folks who were cursing at this poor employee under their breath. I'm not sure what the current state of the U.S. Postal Service is, but I sure hope this branch can beef up their staffing situation. read more

I find it funny that the cashiers here (do they have a special title at a post office?) clearly have a little script they are asked to follow at the end of the transaction. As I waited in line, I heard every cashier ask every customer- "Would you like to buy some stamps? Would you like to buy some shipping materials for next time you are mailing a package? Would you like to rent a P.O. Box for safety and security?" I guess with the way our economy is going, every business needs to make sales pitches... On a Friday afternoon around 3:30 PM there was a line that took about 15 minutes. They tried to "up-sell" me on every package's shipping and the prices really seemed a bit higher than I would have thought... everyone was friendly though! read more

I don't understand why all the negative reviews. I've been going to this post office for the longest time, and have always gotten the friendliest service. I'm not talking about big smiles and small talks, but these guys have been able to answer all my questions, and are always helpful and respectful. Went to send a care package to family. The person at the counter, Alisa, was rude and not interested in her job. I had to ask twice for the actual price of the delivery options (not the 'starting rates') - because she didn't want to measure my medium size box!? Usually it's just a basic part of the transaction. Then, after selecting the priority delivery service and insurance she told me "the address can't be confirmed." My family has 2 addresses their street address and a post office box address. She said both could not be confirmed?! I've been sending them packages for 20 years from the Mill Valley post office. So I left and went the UPS store in Tam Junction- easy parking, no wait, fast friendly service, guaranteed and CHEAPER than the post office rate. Lesson learned. read more

I use this location very frequently to send out packages for the office I work for. Although the wait time is long, the employees are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with a package that I sent out priority out of state and it was never delivered. My customer had to go to the post office HERSELF to pick it up and that was unacceptable. My coworker went to the post office to file a claim and an employee named Wilda told him he has to go online to do that. So we did. We got a letter in the mail yesterday that stated that claims like ours need to be filed AT THE LOCAL POST OFFICE!! Grr!! So off I went this morning and although there was an issue getting the refund, Ricky stepped in and helped out. First the postal clerks are almost always very nice and do their best. However, no one ever answers the phone anymore I have called for days during operating hours and no answer. The usps site doesn't even have clear instructions on how to stop delivery due to death or sale of property. You would think that is a straight forward matter. Then you go to their site where there are no clear instructions. At a loss you call yet another phone number which no one ever answers. This Post office used to be the best. You always got an answer. They changed Post Masters a few years ago. I think it was around 2019 or 2020. She was rude and never solved our problem. Would tell us to call back but she never answered the phone when we called her line. We had to put our bills on auto payment because for over 2 years we were not getting certified mail from attorneys that were time sensitive. The Attorneys sent us copies of their envelope addressed to our home that were marked " no longer at this address! Or moved no forwarding. Our financial interactions became a nightmare because we never knew what we weren't getting. We were at a loss. I made frequent appointments with the post master who never picked up the phone nor solved my problem at the time she designated we should call her back. Im sorry because I feel most of the postal personnel really try to be helpful, but at the change of the post master a few years ago there has been a marked deterioration in efficient resolutions. Five available counters but only two people working? Every single time I go there I never see more than TWO people working the counters. There's the counter space for extra workers but no, the whole community of Mill Valley gets to wait 15, 20, 30 minutes in a line that moves at a snail pace. Boo on that. Seriously people, hire more employees to work the counters! Sure, you can get a business pass to use the business line which saves 10 minutes but when I went in today, the business line was "down" because of staff shortages. For shame, for shame. Oh well. Being a resident in Mill Valley for 55 years and having good mail service up until recently, the last 3 to 4 months has been the WORST possible service! Sometimes skipping my daily service on Reed Blvd next to The Semminary and not delivering packages to the door but throwing them on the hillside of my driveway because the mail carrier does not want to be bothered by driving down my driveway! Also I have been able in the past to confidently put my Mail in the outgoing mailbox at the Seminary, but when I put my 2 Property tax checks and my Visa checks in that box this month, somehow they got lost and were never delivered, causing me much distress and additional fees! While these employees need to embrace some self-responsibility for the level of their service, employee morale has much to do with the operation's leadership. They way I have seen your employees speak to our community is embarrassing, uncomfortable, and discouraging. Perfect place to try out your iPhone/Android/Blackberry/iPod Touch/Nintendo DS while waiting in line. The lighting is dim, so you'll have no problem seeing the screen. Also, if your a fan of graphic communication, you'll be pleased. The post office has been kind enough to layer decades of various signs, placards, stickers and notices to create a rich messaging history going back to the early '70s. Seriously, there are a few awesome employees who work here, and I have a lot of respect to all those who deliver the mail. I went the other day to buy stamps to send out wedding invitations (yay me & Athena!). Mind you, this was a weekday afternoon so the line was short, they had 3 people working the counter, and I was lucky enough that just after getting in line I heard one of the clerks call out "Is anybody just buying stamps?". This truly made me feel like I was leading a charmed life - yes, right there in a U.S. Post Office! The clerk weighed out the invitations for me two get the two rates (one for the whole package going out, and one for the RSVP coming back) ran quickly in the back, and returned with two very nice and appropriately romantic sets of stamps. A simple thing, perhaps; but it made my fiancee happy, and made me look at least minimally competent to be entrusted with minor wedding-related tasks. So life is good. Quick (at least on this occasion), courteous, and efficient. One star off because who knows what my experience would have been if I was carrying out some more elaborate postal transaction (priority overnight shipping a crate of rabid bats to a former Soviet republic, for example) , and also because I have indeed seen the place pretty crowded on a late Saturday afternoon. Which, I think, just means that people need to learn not to show up at the post office on Saturday afternoon and then be surprised to find that there's a line and a wait. There always seems to be a line at this place but I've had nothing but A-OK experiences with the staff working the counter. Post Offices are relative, so I think you have to judge them by their own Twilight Zone scale. If you were to judge your typical Post Office by the Real World scale, you might as well just set the ratings perpetually to One Star. However, this one -- Mill Valley (located next to the Whole Foods) is really not that bad. The people who work here are zombies, yes.... that's a given. But they are the Undead With A Smile, and as long as you go in with the expectation that they are working at about 1/3 the speed of normal humans, you'll be fine. The lines are hit-or-miss.... either no one is in here, and the experience is fine, or there is a line almost out the door, and you thank god (and Steve Jobs) that you can read your email and do productive things while you spend 15 minutes in the USPS Zone. If you have a choice of Post Offices, then this one is a decent choice... but get real, you're only here because you couldn't go to Fedex, right? read more

Just terrible, much like other Marin County post offices. Long lines, only one person working the counter. For whatever reason, it is taking WEEKS to have my USPS serviced mailbox's lock changed. I hear that "the guy who did this retired." What? Nobody in the pipeline to do this important work? They say that maybe somebody from the San Francisco area will come and replace it. Ludicrous. Oh my! I've been to many post offices in my life, but this one is the slowest. During the time that I lived across the street from them (only a one-minute walk!), I went out of my way to schedule my life so that I could go to another post office (any other post office) while running errands. In this way I saved myself much time and sorrow. I recommend that you do the same. I found that they were slow on weekends and off hours as well, though other reviewers seem to have had better luck on weekends. The line's always out the door, and the postal workers, while polite, don't seem to have any urge to speed things along. I get the sense that there's a lack of work ethic. I can understand not wanting to be a speed demon all the time, it's probably exhausting -- but the worst part is that their policy seems to be to have a minimum number of tellers manning their stations -- two at most, although there are many windows, and many employees visible -- no matter how long the line is. Also, heaven forfend if you need to send an employee back behind the counter to check for something. . . because of the open layout, you can see them back there, and on one memorable occasion, having reached the head of a long line, I waited 25 minutes for an employee to check if a single piece of mail was available -- and watched her chat up fellow employees, cross back and forth many times on other errands, and then finally conduct a desultory search. read more

They don't answer the phone. I called for over an hour and got a constant busy signal because our carrier has multiple times listed things as "delivered" but the package never made it to our business. We sent someone over to find out where the packages might have been delivered to (since it wasn't to us) and they said "Sorry we can't help you it shows as delivered". Excellent service. Was there for my child passport by appointment. Staff was fast and helpful. I didn't have cache with me (and they don't accept credit cards for these transactions) and they gave me time to go to the bank and get the needed amount, without the need to reschedule. read more
