This review addresses the Larkspur Post Office. The sole employee who interfaces with customers can be described as sad even when she is in a good mood. I feel sorry for her because I can only guess why she always seems to have a grey cloud over her head. Never rude but always morose. I always leave feeling I need to find a cheerful follow-up and I go out of my way to use a different post office. I wish this postal employee finds the support she desperately needs. Hmmm... I typically don't like bad reviews. But this time I'm leaving one.. I walked in to ask if they sold any gift bags. Normally when I come in there always a guy there that always super pleasant and nice to deal with. Today, I got some lady, which I don't think I've seen her before. I asked if they sold any gift bags and she did said no we are sold out today and after that she didn't say a word or have a good day etc.. it was a cold "sorry we just sold out today". I usually don't expect much from a post office but why? I mean, I'm hearing such bad reps about the Marin Country Mart that a lot of the workers at a lot of the shops they are becoming snobbish. Seriously, folks you don't need to be like that. Just because you ate servicing "Marin County". I'm here defending how people are in Marin County. And I literally don't like hearing this. Kindness goes a long way with respect. I'm from Chicago and I live in a upscale area and a lot of the boutique shops, cafes etc don't behavior like that. You never know who you will be servicing that could be your boss one day or the entire businesses. read more

I'm surprising myself by writing a gushing 5-star review for a post office I only went to once. I mean, how can you tell one post office from another in order to even write a 5-star review? I guess my way to determine this would be to ask myself: Would I drive past a bunch of other post offices to go to this one? Answer: I would drive past a bunch of other post offices to go to this one. There's only one other bay area post office so far with this distinction, and that's the one next to the Manor shopping center in Pacifica. What these two post offices have in common is that they are small. Like, tiny small. I feel like this gives the agents a chance to really get to know their communities and their customers. They are not simply churning through long, soul-killing lines of strangers while trying to maintain their sanity...they actually have the time and space to look along the line and recognize their regulars. In the meantime, they feel relaxed enough and empowered to make personal connections with new customers. Which brings me to my experience here. My daughter and I only came to this location because it was close to where we were having dinner, but I would go out of my way and pay a bridge toll to return because our agent was so personable and friendly and went out of her way to connect with us. Then, just as we were finishing up, one of her regulars came in. She called out to her customer by name and quickly predicted what she would need. I could tell that the customer felt appreciated and recognized. Can't beat that boss level of multi-tasking. read more

First off, let me say that I really do like everybody I've met from this post office. They are friendly. They smile at me. What more could you ask for? How about efficiency? My name is Jonathan, and this is my story. I like Christmas, and I like to spending time looking for the perfect presents for my friends, and especially my family. So when I was browsing the Internet and came across a pair of adorable coffee cups, I knew my sister, who manages a coffee shop, needed to have them. Okay, maybe I'm not the most original guy in the world, but I am thoughtful. So I ordered them, hardly paying attention to the fact that they had to cross the Pacific Ocean to get here from Australia. I was excited to see a note in my mailbox, letting me know the package had arrived. Fantastic! Since the package came from the Southern hemisphere, it needed a signature, which I could not provide, since I work for a living. This didn't bother me too much since I'm an amiable fellow by nature and I live next door to the post office. I headed that way and glanced at the slip. Then I stopped heading that way. The paper told me I had to go to another post office a couple of miles away. This bothered me, but I figured it was to be expected. I used to work in the governor's office, and I know how bureaucracies can be. The next day I took off work a few minutes early and headed to the post office, where I proceeded to wait in line for no less than 20 minutes with the holiday rush. This wasn't a complete loss, as I learned from the old lady in front of me where to get the best early bird special in Sausalito. Christophe's, I will be checking you out! But when I got to the front of the line, I was politely informed that someone had given me the wrong slip. Are you kidding me? So the package was in fact less than 300 yards from where I sleep?!? The next day was Saturday, and I woke up, had breakfast, and headed off to the post office to finally pick up my package. As I walked toward the door, I noticed it was suspiciously dark. The door was locked. They aren't open on Saturday. So when exactly am I supposed to pick up my package? I suppose I will take off work early some day this week and make it over there. But how ridiculous is that? Now, I'm just sitting here and hoping the cups are still in one piece. read more

Efficient staff with a friendly and caring attitude make every visit to this post office a pleasure. Like many others in town I have a trusty old P.O. Box designed for letters but now days I order many things on line that can't fit into the little box. The management has installed lockers where the larger packages can be accessed 24/7. They leave a locker key inside the little P.O. Box, and you just turn around to the bank of lockers to find the one where your packages are waiting. They are such sweet people, and they make this town a great place to call home read more

We have lived in Larkspur for over 40 years. One of the nicest things about our town is the Post Office. Our P.O. Box is there, so we visit almost daily. Whether it's letters from Europe or packages from Amazon or eBay we have come to count on safe delivery, courteous and professional service, and a caring group of people whose friendly presence makes a difference in our lives. Can a Post Office be both homey and efficient? Absolutely! For a small sort of mom and pop operation this out post of the federal government is basically a joy. I always feel that I get special attention and the personnel are friendly, attentive and will go the extra mile to be of service. Sometimes that takes extra time, especially with older folks, but I tend to be impatient and I hate waiting in lines. I also wonder why larkspur has the most expensive P. My office recently moved to Larkspur from San Rafael. Ever since moving to Larkspur, our mail has been arriving late (if at all)... example: credit card is due on the 15th. We get the statement in the mail on the 14th, even though it's postmarked the 2nd.. WTF?... we've had several instances where our vendors never received checks we've sent... right now, a check for our life insurance still hasn't reached the recipient even though it was sent 3 weeks ago... what fuck is wrong with these people? read more

Post office has always been fine, but I tend to avoid the holidays.... But recently our regular mail lady has been on vacation or not on the route. I have been ordering items from Amazon , gift books for my nieces and nephews and last FRI and again yesterday I found these lovely books stuffed into my small locked letter box. Both books now are all folded and mutilated. I asked the young man on Sat not to place large items in by box but to put them in the plastic container that hangs on the wall above our mail boxes... no such luck... Please Larkspur postmistress or master..... can you ask you relief staff to not stuff the boxes with items that DO NOT FIT...... such a disappointment. read more

Similar to Jonathan S, my experience with Larkspur PO has been truly dreadful. For example, the very surly lady there gave me an appointment time for 3pm on Dec 24 to process a passport application. When we turned up at said time/date of course the PO was closed. This is, I've discovered typical of Larkspur PO. This morning I stopped by to make a new appointment - with the same very unfriendly lady - who with neither a hint of irony nor apology let me know they 'decided to close early on Dec 24 and didn't I get a call? - with a tone that suggested it was completely my fault. As I was leaving (to sympathetic, knowing smiles from others in the queue) another customer came after me to say "They are hopeless here - try San Rafael instead". Maybe long time residents such as Victoria F (above) get the A+ treatment (though I really struggle to believe that in describing the "courteous and professional service...a caring group of people whose friendly presence makes a difference in our lives" we can be possibly talking about the same post office). I may have a different accent from Victoria F, but I'm still a taxpayer who I think deserves better service from these public servants for our tax dollars. I've lived in Larkspur for 3 years and the postal delivery service to my home has been mediocre at best --- constant staff turnover, mail crammed/stuffed into the mailbox, late delivery of mail (up to several weeks; once I received a credit card bill on the day payment was due!) and poor mail carrier attitude (I lost my key and carrier, when asked for my mail, refused to give me it to me). Some time back I opened a PO box. Recently, I closed the box and submitted a change of address to forward mail to my home. I haven't received any mail for almost a week now. I sent an inquiry and did not receive a response. I tried calling several times and was subjected to wait/hold times of up to 45 minutes. I don't get home from work until after 5pm and they close at 5pm. They're also closed on Saturdays. I sent another email today for whatever good that does. This is the best post office in Marin! Not only are all the ladies that work there really friendly and helpful. They know you're name, they have the best selection of stamps if you're looking for something special and they help you find boxes that fit the stuff you want to mail. I've lived here 20 years and this office is hardly ever crowded but sometimes it's hard to find parking. Also if the other reviewers had bothered to take the time to find out, you'd know that Larkspur PO doesn't have the mail carriers working in that office. The carriers all work over at the Corte Madera post office. Anybody that lives around here knows what a nightmare that office is with unfriendly clerks and bungled deliveries. If you get a package or something that you have to pick up in Larkspur on Saturday, all you have to do is knock on the door or ring the bell between 9 and 11 and someone is always there even though the window isn't open. read more
