Customer service gets an "F" or zero in my opinion. Went to speak to a supervisor for delivery package issues at my home and told a by a clerk who was being trained that a supervisor will be out shortly. Waited 20 minutes, went back in and reminded the same clerk and trainer that I'm still waiting. Another 10 minutes went by and still no supervisor. Went back in because it was now closing time only to be told by a different clerk the supervisor is tied up but at least he filled out a form and took my information for the supervisor to call or email. Such unacceptable customer service by the clerk, trainer and supervisor. And my original issue still isn't resolved after numerous complaints online. read more

I can't tell you the number of times my packages have gotten lost, delayed, or damaged here. I sometimes have to stand outside the post office in the humid, hot weather for about an hour to pick up my package because the carrier who was supposed to deliver it was too lazy to drop it off at my front door. The employees at this office are rude, irresponsible, and incompetent. There is no accountability or repercussions for an out-of-line employee. Oh, and if you try calling, good luck because no one answers the phone. Avoid doing business here! read more

It's a shame that the customer service here is practically nonexistent. There are two members who are very kind, but the rest have proven themselves to be consistently rude and disrespectful. I have seen people new to shipping out packages receive impatient remarks, and have been told that my query was "the least of their priorities". When the postmaster who was new to my community in Volcano decided to sell the PO Box I had for 33 years because I was 4 days late with a piece of paper to confirm my physical address, During the month I found out that my father had died on the night of my 60 birthday, I had no choice but find another P O Box and it was the airport that said yes they had boxes available. I now have too pay 200+$ per year for my mail but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, they have lots of locker's to put packages in, also staff is very nice and helpful even the old timers I remembered from when I would mail all of my holiday packages there. And yes at times the line is long, but they do their best to get the line moving, now they do have a high turnover in staff and are chronically short staff and constantly looking for new employees, & the blessing is now it's on my way to & from work. read more

Super frustrating, energy draining and costly experience with this post office: My Amazon boxes was marked delivered yet never arrived: I was told They delivered my packages to the wrong house. While I was trying to track how to get it back I was sent back and forth to different departments and locations for two weeks. Then I was told I'm wasting their time!!! They can't do anything because too much time has passed - but it was USPS representatives sending me back and forth all this time: and still did not provide any solution nor find my packages. Need to answer their phone to address problems with delivery. I have had a carrier who decides not to deliver my packages on the day. They're in his truck. He brings them back to the post office and put them out for delivery the following day. He has done this to me several times and I caught him on the road the other day and had to ask for my package directly. He claimed he was too busy to be able to deliver my package. I have a cement driveway, no gate, no dogs, no obstructions whatsoever, and delivery is simply drive-in, drive out. He is lazy and I am not getting any of my packages in a timely manner. I have tried to contact the local post office and USPS online, and so far this has not been resolved. The carrier even laughed at me when he told me go ahead and call the officein Hilo. What do the Cleveland Browns and the post office have in common Neither deliver on Sundays! Let me start by saying that flat rate boxes have become an integral part of my life and I love them very much. Being that the USPS are the ones that allow me to cram an 11 x 8 x 6 box dangerously full of random Hawaiian goodies and various other items for the reasonable price of $12.80, I can get down with them. This particular post office is basically the only one that I go to, as in town it's probably the easiest of all to park at and is located relatively close to most things. This post office is located right off the Mamalahoa highway on Airport Road. Just off to the left, it's pretty hard to miss. Being that it is one of the more conveniently located post offices, it can sometimes be a bit busy. Typically around the times you'd expect people are free to stop by and drop things off (weekends, lunch breaks, etc.). But regardless of how busy the place can get, they typically are able to move people along at a decent rate. You'll really only find yourself stuck in a crazy line if you wait until the last minute to send things around the holidays and whatnot. This location also has a self-service kiosk that is usually available for use, thanks to the fact that a lot of the general population are scared of using technology. So that's pretty cool! Long story short, this is a post office like most other post offices. The parking is pretty solid in comparison to basically any other post office around here, so for that reason alone I'd recommend using this one! read more

Worst experience sending a box to Japan. The window person guy was so rude saying he can't tell us the weight we had to weight it ourselves. Saying we can't tell you the answer. Wth!! This is a very busy location. The lines can get pretty long. However the employees are GREAT! They are super helpful and friendly. They do a great job at keeping the lines moving. They are more than happy to review all shipping options and questions for you. There is plenty of parking and the lot is very easy to get in and out of. Hilo Post Office has the worst customer service!!! My Amazon package was supposed to be delivered, so I waited outside to receive my package. I felt dumbfounded when I witnessed the female mail carrier make the choice to deliberately bend my large package and shove it in my small mail box. She drove off like she did nothing wrong. My mother ended up with an unusable damaged stove range filter. We e-mailed customer service right away. The supervisor, Endy said he would take care of it. He made me believe that his employee would recieve some repercussions because of her ignorance and laziness. He never got back to me and I waited 10 days. I e-mailed him to see what had been done about my situation and called him 5 times and he never returned my e-mails or picked up any of my calls. When I went to the post office, Endy just gave me a bunch of excuses and took no accountability for his employee's faults. Instead suggesting I place the blame on Amazon by e-mailing them about the damaged package that his mail carrier damaged. I do not think it is morally right for Amazon to have to replace a package that Endy's employee intentionally damaged. Endy had given us hope that he would take care of the problem and then left it like garbage on the streets. If he can do this to us, how many other customer's damaged package have not been taken care of as promised. These are hard times and we are on a limited budget. Endy's employee intentionally made the choice to destroy my mother's already purchased package. Had to go into post office. The Asian guy that helped me (can't remember his name but he was helpful and nice) by going and looking. He didn't find it, but he left a note to look out for the package. The package ended up getting located and is now on its way to its original destination. So thanks dude, appreciate it. Locating the package shouldn't have taken over a week though. read more

What is with the mail carriers? Why is it so many of my packages are delivered to the wrong address? I know the address is correct, so why can they not deliver it correctly? Do they not read the name on the package? Now I have to wait till my neighbor finds it and decides to bring it to me? It is so frustrating and there is no one you can contact at the USPS. I live on Banyan Drive in Hilo, Hawai'i. The Postal Carriers here are the worst workers I have ever experienced. They deliver my packages to other apartments. They drop my mail on the ground. A Certified letter with a $12,000 check that was fortunately for me found by our maintenance person. Today I am told by "Alexa" that my Amazon package has been delivered. It was NOT delivered to me. Most of the time the workers here are very helpful. Not Ciera! If you can Not Handel a service to people kind of job .... get another job. You were very in helpful and seems like you have job dissatisfaction.... get another job! Other people want a job. It doesn't help when you yell at customers who do not know what to do ! Twice now this post office has delivered my packages to the wrong PO Box. They actually told me that's probably what happened but because it was marked as delivered there was nothing they could do. Can't get a refund on the purchase because it was technically delivered. Totally don't trust them anymore. read more

On March 26, 2019 I mailed a package, retail ground, to Pahoa, HI from Kansas. It had not arrived by May 6th. I went to the post office in Hilo & spoke with a very nice clerk named Jeffrey who told me that it could take 6-8 weeks for the package to arrive. So I decided to patiently wait another two weeks hoping the package would arrive. It had not arrived by the 23rd of May. On May 29th I went back to the post office. I explained I had not received my package & asked to speak with the Postmaster. The clerk refused to go get the Postmaster nor would she help me with my problem. She sent me to another window. Ted, was the clerk. He was very pleasant but after 30 minutes, he could not help me locate my package & he said that he asked the Postmaster to come talk to me, but they refused. He said I needed to call the customer service line which I had already done & they said they were unable to help me either. Needless to say I was very frustrated by the whole experience. (The package finally arrived on June 26th.) I gave two stars because Jeffrey & Ted were so very courteous otherwise I would not have wanted to give any. read more

The line can get long during peak hours, but the Staff really "ROCKS!!!" Like some well-oiled machine. .you should watch these guys at work? They are AWESOME at whittling down the crowds...and they do so with such "finesse"...and..." grace"...always pleasant...and helpful! Never once losing their cool? Long lines but the staff is fast and very helpful. The only negative aspect is the price to rent a box and how long it takes to get one. I was on the waiting list for six months, but they did notify me by phone call when one became available. I also got my passport here a while ago and it was easier than I thought it would be. I came in and there were two attendants. One helping a customer as well as training a new employee and the second talking story to an Uncle. I waited patiently for 15 minutes while a line formed behind me and the woman attendant continued her social visit. Not a problem, I'm patient. When she was finally done, she called me next and then said I needed to buy tape for the package. Again all this was fine and expected. The tape was behind the counter. She then told me that a line had formed behind me and I would need to buy the tape and go to the end of the line. She had no patience to wait the 10 seconds it would have taken me to tape the package but it was perfectly okay to make me and everyone else wait online for her social visit. She refused to let me tape the package at the window. She would only sell me the tape and then make me wait for a line that was easily 40 minute wait. Ive experienced a lot of poor postal care in Hawai'i and I was hoping this post office would be different. It's very unfortunate when postal staff put their personal lives above the people standing in line and then pretend like you as a customer would be to blame for it. Very insulting & rude. What is going on with the airport post office? People are normally friendly and helpful. I mailed a certified package in early Nov. It was to arrive on Nov.18. I waited until Nov. 23 to follow up on it. My tracking said it left Honolulu on Nov. 18. Even till today, Dec 15, that was the last update. Three people lied to me and said I don't get a refund. The post office website says if the mail was not delivered, I do. I left a letter for the postmaster. I went in-person to see the postmaster and was told she was in a meeting and would call back with no response. Three people were really awful to me, Maile, Ciera and the third person name I don't have. All I am asking for is what I paid for or a refund. I have since sent the certified because I needed it to get there and it was delivered. These people acted as I ask them to mail something poison or worse. I just want my money back for a service I didn't receive and in the future receive better customer service. We are the reason they are employed. read more
