My experience today was 1 star for efficiency but I think the man had his heart in the right place. Every other experience here has been far better than at any other post office, I must say. Here's my advice and experience:
Today: Like Shelly N. said, they've had my package for over 8 days now. It says it's out for delivery but the postal service man who spoke to me made every excuse in the book for how it isn't actually out for delivery. He didn't even let me ask him my question. All I wanted to know was, "is my package here and can I pick it up." The usual customer service section was closed but there was a man standing at the self-service answering questions that people in line had. So, I waited for him to answer their questions so I could see if I could pick up my package. Now, what really made me mad as I walked to my car is, this guy stood there acting like he could be of help and making it clear that he worked for the post office and could answer any question we had, which he did. 15-20 minutes later I stood there as he was wrapping up his story about the history of the post office and why it's so important to know your postal carrier. I stood there trying to politely listen only because I still clung to the hope that when he finished I could give him my name and he could go to the back and bring up my package but NO he doesn't do that, he said. I would have to wait until they opened on Friday to get the Christmas presents I ordered over 3 weeks ago. The ones that listed "out for delivery" 9 days ago from the Dulles Sorting facility which happens to be less than 7 minutes from my house in Ashburn. I can't give today's experience only 1 star because I think the man was trying to be helpful and he doesn't work in the Customer Service section of the post office. He works in the back sorting the mail, as he explained over 15 minutes of his incessant talking. I think he was genuinely trying to spread good cheer and since he's clearly not trained in customer service, he didn't get that on Christmas Eve at 3:45pm all I want to know is "what, if anything can I do to get my package today?" If nothing can be done, spare me the little bit of time I have and just say, "I'm sorry ma'am but nothing can be done." Takes only 30 seconds of my time, opposed to 20 min.
Lesson: DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS TO THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. They can't get your package from the back or help you. They will spend 15-20 min telling you that FedEx has your package, the company you ordered from messed up, your delivery man tried to deliver it, get to know your delivery man (assuming you don't work 60 hours a week like me), and every other excuse in the book.
Customer Service from the Front Counter Folks: Perfect every time. If you go when this place is open, assuming you're off work, then the customer service people will go above and beyond. this time was so disappointing because this post office has never let me down. There is a woman and a man of Asian decent who are both super helpful. There are probably more but I've only worked with these two people. Wish I could remember there names. read more
