Came to the post office today May 2nd 2014 to pick a package I missed and Jorge De Leon was the guy who helped me. To say the least he was have a bad day is what one could only guess, he was VERY RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL!!! I understand I showed up with out the pink card they leave on your door but no one should be treated this RUDE. It is your JOB to find my mail you get paid to do so. I like this post office a lot only because everyone is very nice, from the folks standing in line to the staff behind the counter. The only objection that I have, and I suppose this could be directed at many post offices, are the hours. Castro Valley Post office is open M-F from 9-5. Seriously??? I don't know about you folks but I work from 8am-5pm and with my commute it's more like 6:30 am till 6:30PM. Couldn't they open later and close later or open sooner and close sooner? I can't get to the post office during the week !!!! I would think that with fed-Ex, UPS and other competition they would be a little more user friendly. I would settle for an " after hours" drop off. Or if they had one employee that stayed in the common area until 6 or 7 pm during the week for oversized drop offs or PO box pick-ups. I go Saturday morning when I can but I would much rather go during the week sometime. The line on Saturday stretches out into the parking lot. I suppose other people like me can't get to the post office during the week either ;o) read more

WORST POST OFFICE EVER! They make up their own rules and do not follow the USPS laws. First - I went here to pick up a change of address form because I just moved to a new place. The "Supervisor" would not give me the forms unless I provided something with my new address on it. I told him I just moved there so I don't have anything yet. He went on to rant about mail security and would not give me the forms. He said they only give the forms out to people moving into Castro Valley. Can you please point me to the regulations regarding this??? Other post offices just give you the form. Second - at another time I went to ship out a sensitive item. They said I had to ship it out through one of their most expensive services. I brought the rules and regulations that I printed out from the USPS website and they basically didn't think it was correct. This place is run by a bunch of idiots that feel like it is their job to implement whatever rules and regulations they want. This post office is close to my house and it is very convenient. I never had a problem with them and if you have any questions, they will help you out. The only thing is when I go to the post office, the line is long. All the post offices that I go to is always long. read more

This is the worst post office. I prefer to drive to Pleasanton, Sunol or Niles. This post office lost a certified package. They admit they lost it but would not document the tracking information to reflect the case. They always say come back the next day and do nothing. The post office is always crowded. Terrible. They left a notice at my house stating they will attempt to deliver again with no prevail. They held my package hostage and the one Saturday I actually had time to stop in, they could not locate the package and said it was sent back to Thailand!? It had only been 3 days... The guy said he would call me with an update and he never did. I called three times a day for a week with no answer. The phone literally keeps ringing. The post office is so incredibly archaic and inefficient. It is a slow and painful death and we keep paying taxes to support a decrepit old system that is not really needed anymore. Going postal is an American English slang term, used as a verb meaning to suddenly become extremely and uncontrollably angry, often to the point of violence and in a workplace environment. If I worked at this post office I would have gone postal years ago. This office is WHACK! It looks like it's falling apart good grief. Spend a little time cleaning it up and making it look more inviting and maybe the postal workers at this location would have a better attitude and put a smile on their miserable faces! The parking lot has forever been shoddy and there are never places to park. the lines are way to long sometimes coming out the door and they still can not speed it up! UGH! On a recent visit ... to the post office from hell there was a little boy running around the back counter and the back area and no one could figure out where his mom was and no one stopped their job to help him look for her. He was finally reunited with his postal worker mom after 15 minutes of me standing in line while they finally stopped what they were doing to locate her. No wonder the mail here in CV stinks. BTW I dislike my mail man too. He could be nicer when he drops off the mail and the other day I caught him peeking his head in my kitchen window which I thought was odd. I said "hello" and he mumbled something and left . What was that about? I will never know because he does not stop to say hi. read more

This post office needs an OVERHAUL! The parking is crappy and the lines are unusally long all the time. The only upside is the self-post office computer machine thingie...I come here at midnight sometimes to avoid the parking and line and mail stuff with this contraption. I used it this Christmas to mail a package and it worked perfectly...no human to try and sell me stamps that I didn't need! read more

They are open on Saturday mornings, and have a self-service area where you can buy postage for and send packages of a certain size that is open until mid-afternoon if you miss the walk up windows! read more

Lines are always long...but then again what POst office isnt anymore

I frequent this post office purely out of convenience and location. Most of the time I just use the kiosk to mail packages or buy stamps to avoid the long lines. It would be helpful if the staff spoke better English and the doors remained unlocked after hours so the kiosk could still be utilized and P.O. Boxes checked. read more

I had a PO box there for a couple of years. No issues whatsoever. Really pleased with service most of the time right up to the point where I moved and no longer needed my PO Box. Since then, no amount of faxes, phone calls or letters can do anything to STOP being billed for the PO Box. I've removed my card information even. I don't know what else to do?!?! I turned in my keys on the 30th of November. I still get asked to cough up the fee. Don't get a PO Box unless you can figure out how to pay for a year at a time! read more

The Post Office in Castro Valley does NOT answer the phone. It rings & rings & then automatically hangs up on you. The 800 # is worse because if you have an. issue that doesn't fit into program, you can't talk to anyone. My husband dropped off a payment at the CV post office to our credit card company & they did NOT receive it. Then today I find out that another payment dropped off at the CV post office to another company was NOT received. This is very strange as this has NOT happened before & twice in one month is NOT a coincidence. read more

Had a box here for many years until they lost my check, charged me a re-key fee and penalty, which I reluctantly paid because I needed my mail. On renewal 6 months later, my check was 1 day late and they closed the box and "rerented due to nonpayment." Thanks, Yolanda. You apparently don't work for your taxpaying customers. Oh, the lost check finally arrived, about 7 months later. I sent it to the post office but didn't hear a word. Does customer service get any worse than this? Avoid if at all possible. read more

BEWARE! In a time span of 1 1/2 months, 2 packages I sent have mysteriously turned up missing. Coincidence or possible theft?! Out of 5 (1 in November and 4 in December) recent packages sent only 2 arrived to their destination on time to spite delivery confirmation and insurance and priority mail. Then getting the run around/different stories of policy such as delivery confirmation is a courtesy but not guaranteed that scanning of the item will be done at each or any step of the process until delivery and delivery time even for priority mail is just an estimate but also not guaranteed. So what do we consumers pay the extra fees for and why is this information not in writing (that I can find) or verbally expressed by the clerics taking the items at the counter? First time... shame on me-just got delivery confirmation not insurance so they said there is nothing I can do. Second time... Confirmation and Insurance but still getting the run around. Waiting and tracking daily until I can file my claim. In the meantime... Third time? Isn't going to happen to me. Now I'm telling anyone I know and/or that can find this review to reconsider sending mail from the Castro Valley USPS branch! Last note... while in the process of considering writing this review, I spoke to a co-worker who said a friend purchased a Kindle from Amazon for his wife but it never arrived so after speaking with Amazon they were told that the item was tracked to the Castro Valley USPS branch since 12/18/11. Funny that when they went to CV to check for the item the story is that the item had never been received or was not there. Once again... coincidence or possible theft?! I would love to see if anyone else has similar stories. read more

Had a new mail carrier that wasn't trained and didn't pickup our mail at the outgoing mailbox for a couple of weeks. Mortgage payment and credit card payments were late as a result. Our Association had to physically go down there because no one would call back to sort out the mail issue. I tried to call them today and no one bothers to pick up the lousy phone!!! They lost my packet I had to be there three times, every time I go they say they will call you back and never does... My local post office... While it does get pretty packed, they are pretty courteous and easy to deal with. I haven't had any issues yet, and they have been easy to work with when I have to pick up packages. Best to get here early in the day though.. read more

I try to time my visits when it isn't so busy 92:45 - 3:15 p.m.) I've been using this post office for years and find the staff helpful and pleasant. Wish they had an extra automated self-service postal box. I use that when there is a line. read more

Terrible carrier and customer service. The carrier just drives around with your packages, comes to your door, does not knock or ring the bell, and leaves a delivery notice even though you are at home. I wonder if they even bother to load the packages on their trucks. The supervisor does not care, he tells you that re-delivery is not a service they provide, so you will need to go and pick it up within 10 days. Fire the carrier, fire the supervisor, and please get some honest workers at the office, or close it. read more

I have to agree. Worst post office I've experienced in my 42 years on this planet. I've lived all over the country. This place just sucks. Always a line, don't answer the phone, difficult to communicate with anyone, make you buy tape, have lost something like 10 packages in the 6 years I've lived here, and most that do get to me appear tampered with. I worked for DHL years ago in administration, and I'm aware of how difficult it is to fire someone in a union--they were stealing like bandits there and there was little that could be done about it. Same thing at this place--nothing but thieves going through your mail looking for something to steal. My favorite incident with them: mailman wants me to sign for a package. It had clearly been deliberately opened, then they resealed it with their own tape and wrote on it "received damaged." Bulls&$@! So he tells me that I can refuse the package, in which case it'll be returned to sender and determined if the contents are still in there and then resent from them (responsibility placed on seller, which isn't fair). If I choose to accept the package, the moment I open it I can no longer hold the post office responsible. So either way they're not responsible. I took a guess that the contents were still in there because I knew what it was that I had ordered and knew it wouldn't be of interest/value to someone else, and luckily I was right and it was still in the package. You are LUCKY when the thing you ordered actually makes it to you in one piece. Worst place ever!!!!! read more

This place is horrible. The staff is rude. Customer service....yeah right. You'll find better service at the DMV. Smiling faces behind the counter. No. Castro Valley grew and this PO stayed the same size. Always expect to wait in line. I've been an online seller since 2001 and I've lived in CV since 2003. With the way the employees are here no wonder USPS is going broke. I'm sick and tired of the rudeness and their inability to communicate. This place is a great example of why post offices are closing and why they need more money. This post office is run by elderly postal staff, most are immigrants. They can't keep up with the work load, hence rising pension costs and wanting to cut saturday delivery. If you ask me give those jobs to returning vets who will care about the people and community they serve. read more

Didn't know that you couldn't use their tape. I understand completely, but the guy was a total jerk about it. Got out of the line and noticed that their tape is ridiculously expensive so I left to go buy some at Ace Hardware. Came back, got again in line. The same guy 'helps' me when I get to the front and says that I will have to now pay for a label. What? No way, so I go to my car, get a piece of paper and fold it in half, tape and address it and wait nicely by his window. He then yells, "Get back in line." I was embarrassed because the first two times in line was my fault and doing, but the third time? Really? He doesn't seem to know that in the 'old days' if you were doing a little task you stepped aside while another customer was helped, then it was your turn. Then after the third time in line he starts in on the need for my package to have insurance. I said no, then he continues the high pressure sales/fear tactic in the hazards of mail delivery. Whatever, just don't be a jerk and maybe have a basic command of the English language before you start yelling at the customers. read more

Always VERY slow. They never have priority envelops out on the floor like other post offices. If you need an envelop you need to stand in line for 15 min. There are six people standing in line with me right now and only one person working although there are a number of people in the back. I have now been standing in line 22 min. If you live in this town you already know how slow they are. If you actually have to come to this place and are a working citizen, plan on taking a vacation day. I was prepared to be here for a couple of hours since it's time for taxes.
