I was greeted warmly by Ms. Postal Worker (I really should ask names because these ladies deserve all the flowers) and when I asked about getting a money order, she let me know that they don't fill it out, I do, and would I like to borrow her pen? And it was a NICE pen too! Before you remind me that I go every single year and how did I not remember that I fill out the money order, just hush. I sent a Priority Mail package from Los Angeles on Wednesday, February 12 at 2:39 pm and was told to expect delivery in two days. The package arrived at the OAKLAND CA DISTRIBUTION CENTER (same address as this post office) at 1:37 pm on Thursday, February 13. The package was supposed to go from there to Livermore, but was instead whisked off in the other direction to the SAN FRANCISCO CA DISTRIBUTION CENTER. My package arrived there Friday, February 14 at 8:12 am, and did not depart the facility until Saturday, February 15 at 3:14 am. The package was held up between these two distribution facilities for nearly 37 hours! This is not the first time I've experienced a long delay at the Oakland Distribution Center. A few months ago my package sat there for more than 40 hours before leaving the facility. Same destination, same poor service. By the way, I paid $19.15 for "Priority" Mail. What a joke! read more

I placed my package 06/22, Sunday for Monday mailing from San Francisco to Oakland. My package clearly stated " exempt time sensitive" to be delivered. USPS tracking indicated that my package "arrived at post office," in Oakland on 6/24 at 7:24AM. Yesterday evening at 6:29pm, my package arrived back to the Post Office at 1675 7th Street and was set up to be picked up! My package clearly indicated to be delivered not picked up! What can I say? It's a US post office. I used to live here in East Oakland and use this post office often as I like the drive through. I was familiar with this post office and its easy to find. My son had an appt for his passport renewal and we chose this location. Getting inside the building was a different story. The sliding door was stuck so we had to flag someone down to open it for 5 - 10 minutes. There were others that did the same as us and it was funny to see. It's not busy here so we did not take long. Once you have an appt, you should be seen shortly. At least, there was a seat to wait on. The attendant lady for passports was nice and quick. I would actually recommend for the post office passport renewal only but other then that, the staff was too laidback when helping customers. Parking here is challenging at times, but once I'm inside I'm glad I'm there. I wish there was at least two Disabled parking spots in front of the post office because there are a lot of us who need them now. Since I'm disabled, I'd love to have a second chair in the lobby. As for the staff: everyone of them is a GEM! They explain things carefully and sometimes they remember my name even if I can't remember theirs. I like the "home town" atmosphere of a lot of the shops and places on San Pablo; it especially feels welcoming at this branch of the US Postal Service. read more

Why is it that almost ALL the Post Office clerks have a bad attitude and act like they can't be bothered? They're government workers whose duty is to serve the public. I was there yesterday morning and the clerk all the way to the end with grey braids is just apathetic and unhelpful. Can't even bother to look at you when you/she speaks. This used to be my favorite post office, because I could send stuff and know that it would go to Sacramento by the next day. I don't know what's happened, but I went in and waited in a small line (only one person at the counter in front of me). And something happend that has never happened before. Someone came from the back to help me. Me???? There were two of us one being serviced and the other waiting, and he came out to help me? Now he gave me some info I didn't want, but he came from the back to help me? And had a smile on his face? And was jovial and funny as we talked? What? But avoid this location for all your passport needs. I wasted my time coming here after another location's passport system was also down and they cancelled my appointment and sent me here. Came today in 10/30/2019 at 4:47 pm. They get 1 star cuz they were open and only 2 people were ahead of me and two counter clerks pretending to work. One older Asian clerk at the left side of the counter and a sistah girl on the right. Of course, I get the RUDE azz youngster who knows how to roll her eyes. When I was returning my Amazon package I asked if she had any clear tape, she pointed at the display on the back wall and told me to go over there and purchase it. I was like...REALLY??? The customer service at this location is so very f'ing RACHET. There is a very good reason why this chic is working the post office clocking a C note per day - where else can her RUDE AZZ behavior get her hired? I said to her again, "please get me the tape" cuz I was only going to ask one more time and then wait for the Postal Police to escort me to my vehicle. Guess what? Her trifilent azz went the next desk and handed me some tape that had a half inch of tape left on the roll and told me, "If that's not enough, feel free to purchase more". The additional 2.00 tape wasn't going to break my bank but her attitude was too much for public display. ADA and KATHERINE have got to be the RUDEST postal service workers I have ever met in my life!!! I wish I read the reviews sooner, I had a 10am passport appointment here including to take a passport photo. I came 10 minutes early as indicated in the instructions on my confirmation email. First off, I came across Katherine, the middle-aged Asian lady, working the front counter. She told me to have a seat. She didn't inform anyone I was here. 10:05 rolled around and I asked her if anyone knew I was here for my passport photo. She said "my job is to work here at this desk. I don't deal with passports. The lady who does it has the appointment schedule so she should know you're here." I asked her to confirm with the lady as I had to get to work and didn't want to stay too late past my designated 10:00-10:15 slot, and she proceeded to tell me "I'm not going to bother her, she gets mad easily so you can just wait" and I told her she didn my have to be so rude to me, and she gave me a smart ass remark "see now you're mad too just like her." So Ada, the elderly Black woman, finally comes and is really abrupt with me. She asks to see my appointment confirmation which I show on my phone. Then she asks for my documents and photo, and I responded that I needed my photo taken, hence the appointment. She says "well our camera doesn't work so if it works okay but if not then oh well, you'll need to provide your own photo" like ???? And I was like, "why do you guys even allow people to schedule photos if your camera doesn't work?" And she said "I don't know, that's not my job or problem." SO RUDE. I just left and will schedule elsewhere! I'm not in a rush anyways for my passport but jeez, if you hate your life and job that much then please, do citizens a favor and quit!!!! There when you need it I guess. This post office is open until 8:30 PM. Though you have to use the west entrance after 5 PM. You may want to note that the last pick up from the lobby is at 8 PM. So why are there no postage machines in the lobby? The place is generally rundown. Seemed to be one friendly person at the counter. But your odds of getting him are low. OK, I can find one good thing to say. The drive-through drop/off boxes are convenient. Otherwise, if you don't live near here the only reason is for nighttime service otherwise, if you don't live near here the only reason is for evening service. read more

I generally go to this post office when I'm running late and need to get something in the mail right away, which is at least once a month. So, I really appreciate that they have longer hours. I've also received efficient and friendly service here - every time! No matter how long the line is, or how close to closing it is, the postal service member's always have a lightness; fast but not "trying to get rid of you" attitude. There's one gentleman there in particular, who just really likes people and it shows! Otherwise, everyone is nice and they are always stocked with boxes and accessories for shipping! More POC stamps are always welcomed everywhere! read more

The employees were not wearing their mask over their nose. The woman in front of me asked kindly for the employee to cover their nose and he flat out refused and condescended her telling her that it doesn't matter because covid only affects a small portion of people. She told him she was one of those small portion of people with compromised immunity. Another worker chimed in to also tell this woman it doesn't matter and only after abusing about it for a long time did they finally put their masks on correctly. These employees come in contact with hundreds of people a day in a small indoor space and they don't even follow CDC guidelines. I guess I'll need to go to other post offices until these people figure it out read more

The Tall African American employee behind the counter is so mean! She needs serious training on customer service. I brought two kids here for passport and no one is here to help and the employee in front is so rude and not helpful at all. The sign surely said go to the front to get help and they're not helping us. We drove all the way here for no reason and received such bad customer service. Unless they come up with a new business model and FAST, USPS is doomed. And that will be a very sad day for everyone. My 3 stars review is due to tax day. I ran out to meet the midnight deadline, I was already in my lounge clothing - PJ's. Years past, I've done this and there were always many CS reps happily collecting mail directly from your car. But this year, there was no one outside to personally collect the mail. I had to park the car, get out in my cute PJ's, go inside the PO, wait in a mini line to fit my fat envelopes into the mail slot. It was a good thing, I had real shoes on instead of my Hello Kitty fuzzy slippers. But all the while, I was a bit embarrassed that my attire was not proper. If I had known this, I would had put on something else. USPS no longer offer the first class service they did many years ago. I hope they do survive and convert into something prosperous. But more importantly, bring back the personalized hand collected tax day service. I don't want to get caught in my PJ's again. read more

I applied for my passport here and it was a really simple process as a first timer, since i had my first passport when I was 14. I like where the location is and it's adjacent to the West Oakland BART station. Also not many people com here and it make it feel empty at some hours but there's a rush hour so one has to know when to come to get really super fast service here even though the service was good and the speed of the line was moving forward fast enough. read more

Similar to the DMV, I was given the wrong instructions to obtain a mailing permit. After paying the $215 fee for a Standard Permit, I get back to my office only to find an email saying I paid for the wrong thing, to fill out another form, and a refund would be sent back to my company. Great post office here, but now only open until 6p. Was such a wonderful service when open until 8:30pm. Now more govt service cuts... :-( No longer any post office anywhere around open past 6:30pm. Why not raise taxes on the rich, or just prevent corporations from offshoring their profits, so we can have decent government services again? We privatize profits and then socialize the lost services. Guess I'm off to fedex now, to give my money to a corporation. It will be more expensive. I visited the Oakland Main Post Office this morning. I was awestruck by the style and beauty of the structure. Granted, that's my (humble) opinion. I was interested in the history of the massive building and asked the clerk how old it was. She had no idea. So, when I got home, I looked it up. It has an interesting history. According to my research, the land was "acquired" by Eminent Domain in the 1950's, displacing dozens of families:-( The architecture, which I admired, has been described as "Brutalist", which seems appropriate. And insulting. The layout was BIG, but the staff was courteous and helpful. There are no public restrooms, but there is a selection of excellent greeting cards for sale in the lobby, which I've never seen in a post office before. I've lived in Point Richmond for over 20 years and virtually every piece of mail I've received or sent has passed through that facility. I'll give it 5 Thumbs Up. read more

This location quite literally SAVED MY ASS. * Six months ago, I donated a kidney to a friend of the family. * Three weeks ago, I slipped on the stairs, fell down the entire flight (backwards) and have been to the MD several times for exams, x-rays, follow ups and prescriptions. I'd been hobbling around after my fall and not very mobile - I had a stack of mail that included my insurance premium, but hadn't sent it out as per my regular schedule, due to my broken bum. March 3rd was the deadline for my premium to be postmarked, which I had taken care of already and met the 6pm "last call" for pick ups. Yay! I did some errands, and got back home around 7:00pm. I needed to make a copy of a document, and to my utter dismay, and subsequent panic, noticed that the actual CHECK for my insurance premium was still face down... in the printer. I had mailed an EMPTY envelope to my insurance company!!!! I cursed. I panicked. I considered moving to Canada. And then... I got my shizz together, and Yelped a Post Office that was open late. Behold! I read Poppy H.'s review, grabbed an envelope and stamps and was on my way to redemption! OPEN UNTIL 8:00PM.
