I'm happy to leave a great review for the Emeryville post office. It was close to closing time. Customers were still coming in. I needed to mail two packages, and even though there were several customers ahead of me, the line moved surprisingly fast. When I reached the counter, the employee was courteous and genuinely pleasant, a nice change of pace from rushed service. The postage price was exactly what I expected, with no surprises. Between the speedy processing and the excellent customer care, the whole visit took just a few minutes. It's rare to find efficiency and kindness together, but this post office nailed it. I made an appointment on line for my passport and passport picture at this all service post office I downloaded the passport application and printed it out. I completed the application and had everything ready to go for the day of my appointment I made copies (front and back) of my drivers license and also of my birth certificate. I took the originals with me as well According to the US Post office website you can only pay with a money order or cashiers check You can purchase them at the post office with a debit or credit card So I just went prepared with a money order to pay the fees HOWEVER the employee told me I could have paid with cash also $35 passport application fee $15 picture fee $110 passport book I arrived on time for my appointment and stood in the general line because there isn't a line specific for appointments. A US post office worker hollered out asking if any one had an appointment and I walked up I presented all of my documents at my appointment and sorta like passport interview started. WHY WAS I NERVOUS lmao hard. I guess it was an excited nervous energy because I NEED TO GO INTERNATIONAL HELLURRRR Initially the post office employee told me that the passport camera printer was not working and said I should walk over to Walgreens and take my picture and go back to the post office. I guess she saw the look on my face because then she said WELL LETS SEE IF IT WORKS. Thank baby Jesus it worked AYYYYYYY. So the entire process was seamless and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. We were recently another victim of the MIA passport acceptance agent (see other reviewers reporting the same problem) when making an effort to get a passport for our son. No one called to reschedule our appointment beforehand. No one emailed. We showed up to be turned away at the desk with no recourse, follow-up appointment or plan (still no offered plan as of writing this). We had waited over a month for an appointment to become available. Absolutely a statement on the current dysfunction of the post office at the minimum and the govt at the maximum. read more

I had an appointment for a passport this morning at 9:15. I received a call a few minutes before 7AM from the postoffice to inform me that the employee assigned to passports had called the the supervisor this morning and would not be at work. The postoffice worker apologized politely. I wanted to add this to the other reviews which I read just this morning. The cancellation of appointments may still be a problem, but at least they called me. I was coming from 20 miles away. Maybe now they can work on the attendance issue. read more

What nonsense. This was a good place to go to up until about a year and a half ago. There was a wonderful person named Harry, and one woman that were helpful. However the quality of staff has just gone downhill since then. For example, a couple weeks ago, I brought in a padded envelope with a birthday dress for a 2 year old child to mail to her. The clerk told me the amount. I handed him $10, and asked for some stamps as well. He gave me a rude runaround gobbledygook sarcastic reply about paying with a credit card. No, I said, no, I'm paying for this, and you do not decide for me how I will pay. He then tried to tell me about some sign that stated that. Again, there was no sign. So he then bugs the other clerk for the $3 in change that he owed me. What a schmuck. This same character has been obnoxious on several other occasions as well. Yesterday I simply went in to mail a letter inside the p o. I saw some guy behind the counter looking sideways, not sure what his position in the p o was. I asked for a small piece of tape, as part of my envelope was not entirely sealed. This creep began to berate me about it..saying we don't *give* "out" tape, blah blah blah in a very crackhead style tone of voice, very hostile..on and on and on about it ( ??? )...all that ??..over a piece of @##! tape ??. He then "disappeared" into the nether world region of the p o. So I asked that other guy, yeah that same one that argued with me over my packaged envelope 2 weeks prior. He blew me off with * the other guy is "looking" for tape. Huh ??..."looking for tape"...look jokers, open up a $#!! DRAWER in there, and let me have a smidgen piece of tape, for chrissake. Don't bother with these clowns. I now detest the fact that this p o is the closest one to me. I'm almost willing to go to Burlingame or somewhere else just to not have to put up with these clowns..No...I never got a piece of tape from anyone either... read more

OMG!!! Talk about amazing staff, which is always my experience at post offices, but this one gets the prize! I went in to figure out which mailbox was mine because I purchased a box then a few weeks later when I went to check it, I forgot the number. After the first clerk couldn't find my info, I had one of the clerks running around because they couldn't find my paperwork and I wasn't in their system. After at least 10 minutes of this, I finally realized I was at the wrong store. I sincerely apologized. Perhaps it was because I was never rude, after all I'm the one who lost my #, both clerks were very kind in return. No passive aggression, no weird looks, just it's okay, have a good evening. I mention this because, I know they see hundreds of people a day, and even at our best we can become frustrated and reactively take it out on someone; especially when there's a line!!! And if they had, I'd still be kind. My goal in live is to Be Love and Be Compassion. This is probably the only post office that I'm in and out in no time. The longest wait time was probably 10 min however I do get here as soon as they open. I read another review that said the employees work slow here but I've had that slow experience at EVERY government ran establishment, not just here. Parking is a nightmare. I've probably stated that on every review I've writtern for all businesses in this plaza. So I suggest if you're coming to the post office, run other errands within this plaza and grab some pizza at Round Table across the way or some coffee at Peets. This is the post office that is responsible for the mail that comes to the apartment building that I own and manage in North Oakland. A little over a month ago an unauthorized person with a key that only postal employees are allowed to have opened a lock box on the front porch and took out the front door key that we keep there for use by mail carriers. They used the front door key to access the building and then used the special postal key to gain access to everyone's mailbox. I don't believe that anything of value was taken because the tenants had collected their mail in the afternoon and evening and the thieves were accessing the boxes very late at night. But our privacy had been violated and I had to have the front door lock changed and issue new keys to all of the tenants. I also had to give a new key to the carrier so that we could still receive our mail. I was told by the carrier that since the thieves had access to the lockbox the key would no longer be kept there and the carrier would retain possession of the key. That turned out to be a lie because a little over a month later the same or different thieves used the new key to access the building and used their postal keys to open all the mailboxes in the lobby. How did thieves get hold of both a postal key and a key that had been given to the carrier? Was this an inside job? Are postal employees selling keys to thieves? What's going on here? Your guess is as good as mine because the supervisor of the post office that our carrier works out of refuses to answer the phone or respond to the urgent messages that I have left at the post office. Total stonewall. There's something very rotten going on at that post office and management refuses to do anything about it. I'm supposed to give our carrier a new key but how can I do that when I know that it will be used by thieves to enter my building? But if I don't provide the key my mail won't be delivered. There is actually an outdoor traditional blue drop box but it's behind the post office, at the gate where the mail trucks enter and exit, on the side street. Let's not forget this is a gov't run outfit. Quite frankly I'm impressed by the postal service in comparison with the way most other govt entities run. I send mail to family in Boston and vice versus and we are often shocked how fast it arrives. I think the locale is great for local folk. The Old fashioned concept of organizing all your needs within one spot - Genova for food and meats; Walgreens for most everything, post office, and it you cross over across 51st, there is now a produce store on Telegraph. I I think people tend to write reviews when they're disgruntled, so I wanted to make sure to write my positive review! I have nothing but good things to say about my several experiences at this location. I think the US Postal Service in general is having some problems and sadly privatization may not be far away. However, on two occasions people at this location have gone far and away above the call of duty to help me. I have found them knowledgeable and friendly. One woman in particular, whose name I am sorry to say I don't remember, helped me with a really protracted address forwarding problem. Sometimes the lot is full at this location and it can be a little tricky to find parking. But hey, I'm a San Francisco native who just moved here two years ago. After a lifetime of trying to get errands done in San Francisco, I really have no complaints about parking in Oakland! Bonus points for the cluster of businesses & services in this little mini mall. I find the Peet's, Walgreens & post office to be a pretty pleasant and useful trifecta. I often get work done at Peet's on the free Wi-Fi and get my postal needs done in one shot (& whatever random thing I might need at Walgreens). If you really want to tool around, the library and good tacos are also a short stroll away! read more

We renewed our daughters passport at this location . The guy helping us was doing five other things at once and was late to start our apt . We have just received a letter 6 weeks after application stating the passport was missing info . We now have to cancel our trip due to the mistakes that were made on their end with not enough time to correct them and receive the renewed passport. read more

In fact, it may have never arrived anywhere! Like all the lone socks that have mysteriously disappeared in the dryer, Alex S's secret Santa gift is forever lost in the USPS abyss. RIP mexican hot cocoa, Miette marshmallows, and mini bottles of booze. You would have made a real swell surprise on Alex's doorstep, but The Man had other plans for you. This is the only post office I ever encountered that does not have blue box outside for patrons to drop their letters. I don't know if previous boxes were vandalized or stolen, but it is a great disservice for the patrons who use this location. All the stamp machines are dinosaurs and constantly breaking down. While the rest of the Bay Area post offices get new, automated equipment, this one has barely made it past the pony express. It's like the land that USPS forgot. The drop boxes on the inside are usually full or stuck with packages that are too large for the slot. You are forced to stand in a line with 10-30 people to buy a single stamp. Waiting in line with cranky, disgruntled people is no treat. The holidays are the WORST. I feel sorry for the staff. One postal worker told me that because they serve less people than other locations, they don't get the upgrades like other post offices do. It must be so frustrating to have to deal with little resources and angry customers all day. They are trying to make lemons out of lemonade, but it is still a sour drink. However, it doesn't excuse the bad behavior and outright rude customer service by some postal employees. To avoid visiting this location, I carry all my mail into work on the weekdays and visit a post office in San Francisco. Also listed on YELP as the Telegraph USPS. read more

Before you even get to the post office, the parking lot here is in a horrible place, and quite dysfunctional. Be prepared to fight congestion and struggle to park. I've been here a few times and it has felt like I am in some sort of post office purgatory. Once, even when they were closing and there were 30 people in line behind me I was amazed that the clerk who helped me seemed like she must have been stoned. I suppose that maybe it is a survival mechanism for a shitty situation, but she was out of control slow and completely tuned out to me, and to the line behind me. Meanwhile, the clerk next to her just clocked out - so there was only one person to handle everyone: the most plodding and perhaps mentally deficient postal worker I have ever encountered. I've been in a number of post offices. I expect slowness and frustration when I do go. But this place was madness... I had to laugh. It might as well have been a Monty Python skit. And why don't they have a machine to weigh and stamp my package on my own? Choice is limited by locations, but if you know a different post office you can go to, then I suggest you take any other option besides this one. Or at least bring your sense of humor and something to distract you from the profound gloom and frustration here. Each time I have come, with each of various postal workers, it feels like they are all related to Eeyore. I feel kind of bad for postal workers anyway, but I feel very sad for the folks who work at this location. read more

Worst post office ever. They lost my mail for over a month and did not return my phone calls. When I went to the station to speak with an agent they looked in the back and couldn't find anything after keeping me waiting for 40 minutes (and waiting for 45 minutes in line). Only after filing 2 complaints with the Postmaster General did Nardo finally remember to call me back 2 weeks later. Today they suddenly (magically) found my mail. Apparently the carrier decided to withhold my mail and left no note. Unacceptable. Also illegal to screw with someone's mail. If you can find a different place to do your mail business, do it because this is the absolute worst post office in this area. Their incompetent and rude manager is Nardo. Such a weird place for a post office, but it was convenient for me at some point in my life. I stopped here a few times to mail packages and to get stamps. I had those stamps for many years; for some reason, I bought a lot, and I would keep finding random books of them in the unused pockets of my many illustrious backpacks. It's clean. At the Emervyille post office, when ever a long line is forming a manager will come out and say "who is here just for pickups?" They stopped my mail without telling me and returned it to the senders for 2 weeks. Their unapologetic excuse was that the house was vacant, even though I had talked to the mail carrier and asked her to please continue putting all of my mail in the mailbox, which she said that she would do. I usually don't like to refer to people as retarded, but almost everybody I talked to down there today were either completely inbred or severely retarded, including my mail carrier. I have an idea, how about if you decide to stop somebody's mail you just slip something in their mailbox, so they know that there's no mail that's going to be delivered... Stellar Service! I've been calling my vendor to locate a package which should have arrived last Thursday. I received notice today that my package was in the Oakland Main Facility, but couldn't pick it up due to their volume. I called my local branch, North Oakland, with my tracking number. I was informed they get two shipments and would call me back when the second shipment of Express Mail arrived. First, my personal experiences: Everyone at this location is very friendly, polite and professional, especially Norma, Armando and Harry. I've never had a bad experience with any worker at this location, and I'm there dropping off packages or checking my PO Box almost every day. That's saying a lot; at my previous post office there were several rude employees, as there are at downtown Oakland, or even worse, downtown Berkeley. On several occasions I've arrived just after closing and they've still let me drop off packages, which is not something they have to do, just a nice courtesy. I've also NEVER waited in line here for more than 10 minutes, even during the lunch rush or right before Xmas... maybe the complainers below need to learn patience, or how to tell time. Now to address the complaints below me. Nique F.: When you ship a package, they ask you if it contains anything fragile, liquid or perishable. Sounds like your parcel contained items that were at least 2 out of 3. Did you let them know that, or did you just gloss over the question? Also, how can you hold 1 location responsible for your package? You do realize that it leaves that location, right? Sara C.: Maybe you should fill out your address before getting in line & making all the rest of us wait on your slow ass. It's customers like you that makes the lines long.
