Psst, over here. Wanna know a secret? There's a post office in the Bay Area that never, ever has a line. Nope, not never, really. Set amid towering redwood trees, near a babbling brook, this rustic post office is like a dream. Just a ten minute drive from my house, with plentiful parking, a postal clerk that knows your name the second time you visit, and who always has a kind word. No. I. am. not. making. this. up. It's a one gal Post office that serves a community of about 200. They're closed for an hour every day (11:30-12:30 - a gal's gotta have lunch), so call ahead. Xmas packages? Need stamps? Registered? Overnight? Go here, it's worth the drive - the time you spend driving here would be spent fuming in a line at your local PO. Don't tell anyone, okay? read more

Beyond awesome. I needed passport services but I wanted to keep my time off from work to a minumum. Ideally, I wanted to find a place that could take me in first thing in the morning. This place offers passport services M-F without appointments beginning from 7:30 a.m. Perfect! I woke up super early, drank in the scenery along the drive, parked among the redwoods, and walked into this charming cabin-looking building. The woman working here was incredibly friendly and made me feel as welcomed as an idealized 50's television show neighbor. I love her. Altogether, it was a wonderfully pleasant experience and a truly a great way to start the day. I would totally recommend coming here for your passport or postal needs... unless you hate trees. read more

What's not to love? This darling post office is worth the short drive over the hill from Oakland and down into Canyon. Nestled under old growth redwoods in a fairy tale setting, you half expect some mythical characters to greet you from behind the counter. Or, if you are a creature with a bit of imagination, you can pretend. read more

PASSPORT APPLICATION SERVICE IS NO LONGER OFFERED HERE!: I only give this ONE star rating because USPS does not provide updated info about the services this location offers (or used to!)!!! Having read rave reviews about this location, I made a point of going only to find out that the postal worker who was in charge of passport application processing is now "retired" and therefore the service is "suspended"!? None of this information is mentioned anywhere on USPS.com website nor on their phone automated service :\ Grrr. The second place I tried is on 7th St. in West Oakland where I couldn't call for an appointment because the phone line is not even working! How are we supposed to make an appointment where it is "required" if the phone service does not work?! So, I walked into the regular postal service area to ask for an appointment. The man took out a very messy clipboard with handwritten appointment dates/slots scribbled on and found me a spot two days away (even though most dates looked like they only had one or just a few appointment slots taken!?). In passing, he said I should try UC Berkeley's Rec Center because they take walk-ins (or walk-ins only?)!!! So, guess what?! I drove over to Cal and at 10:00am, it only had two people ahead of me in line and took just 2 minutes to submit the paperwork & pay and I was DONE!!! The people there are so pleasant and professional. In short, nobody should ever bother going to USPS!!! read more

Great post office! You can even call over the phone, get a nice human being, and order stamps that way if you want them mailed to you. It's a small post office in the redwoods and I always try and give them my business, especially big business like packages, bulk mailing or stamp purchases. It's good to support the little guys ;) Make the drive, it's beautiful, and stop on in to say hello. read more

Must agree with all the previous reviews. Made an appointment to renew two minors' passports (both parents have to be there with both minors unless one goes to a notary, bla bla bla....yikes). Called ahead and learned their camera was broken, so I got photos before going. I had all the right documents ready to go....so we were in and out in 15 minutes. Plus - she gave us a candy treat afterwards. This is my new favorite place! read more

It is as good as yelpers claim. Hand down the fastest, prettiest postal office anywhere in town. No appointments for passport, and no line. The garden was nice, and the air smells like rain forest. You gotta be there to believe it. Traveling there is a bit of fun. 4 miles of back road, hardly any straights. I discovered it years ago riding my motorcycles past it, never thought I would return to apply for passport. Secret post office indeed. read more

If you're looking to renew your passport and don't want to be stuck in a long line, this is the place. I spoke to Alaina (sp?) when I scheduled my appointment (Saturday early a.m. appointment). I saw Carla when I came in and renewed my passport. I was in and outta there in less than 30 minutes. This includes getting my photos taken. The services here is truly amazing and I would have to say that I'd come back in a heartbeat if I ever have any postal needs. read more

This place is great! We were easily able to get a passport done for our infant daughter with no fuss, and they were pleasant, knowledgable and friendly. Plus - we got to take a beautiful scenic drive to get there. read more

This is -- hands-down -- the best post office you will over go to. No lines. In the thick of a redwood forest. Pleasant and friendly customer service. I submitted my passport application without an appointment in less than a half-hour (i.e., someone else wandered in to ship a few packages). Yes, it's not easy to get to, but when you send your friends a photo of a post freaking office, it will all have been mightily worth it. Just don't forget to go soon before the government shuts this place down . . . . There is zero chance that a post office like this survives the next spate of cutbacks. And then, I will be forced to cry on my drive to Wyoming for real postal service . . . . read more

We went to this post office today to renew our daughter's passport. When I called around, it was the only office that had a human answering who was intelligent and pleasant! When we went, boy, it was the first time in long years we had fun at a post office! Worth the drive. read more

Friendly, efficient, and more flexible than they are required to be. But don't take it for granted! I did not expect so much sweetness at a post office. read more
